Volutes Eau de Parfum Diptyque (3C29D1, BNI Tester Box) Update 1 : December 1, 2024 I retest Volutes again today and I still dry down of the scent is very beautiful. Powdery make-up iris with tabac blond nuance, slight dirty but still clean and reserved. And the way that this use "Styrax" the matte semi-powdery chewy amber here really a highlight. The point is I don't think I want to smell like Vintage Tobacco. When I wear Tobacco fragrance, prefers something more realistic for this kind of scent. (Tobacco from today (cigarette) not a vintage tobacco (a tobacco pipe). Beautiful renditioned fragrance but slight too fantasia for my taste. I find "Tobacco Nuit" the most realistic, like smoked skin so far. O'wise I go full wild on something like "Liquor B.P.M" modern amber with Cigarette and Liquor. (Don't you suppose to feel Bad yet sexy when wear Tobacco?) Probably put in the market soon. ==== Miracle in the bottle. Yeap, I might overly expressing but I have never met any unisex even feminine leaning Tobacco fragrance beautiful as this. Volutes, as presented on the box. Woman dancing on bon voyage cruise. Dressing in 80's dress, Volutes truly reflect feel of it label. Sweet skin and Blond Tobacco. The open is all Diptyque's orris I am familiar from FdP. But this time not neat and bright, the classic Violet & Iris combo. Bring this scent more on classic powdery/soft lipstick interpretation. Tobacco slowly build up after it is getting heavier. But I won't say this is tobacco centric, powdery violet orris stay with Tobacco so beautiful. Almost like blond tobacco. The honey, also thickening as time develop. Softly acid, gooey and sweet. Like most of classic interpretation of Honey. I believe, this carried on the signature Orris, Violet and Ambrette combo. Because I perceive something musky similar to FdP and also a far cousin No.18. So sweet, so girly but blond tobacco linger non-stop. If I could sum up. The scent might build around ambermax profile. But the quality of beautiful iris in heart truly aim something. Volutes bring masculine tobacco profile into unisex-feminine leaning scale. A party girl dance non-stop all night while gentlemen smoke his soft cigar. The beat goes on and on, non-stop, in copacabana. (Think of A little party never killed no body, Fergie MV ambience) I read somewhere while ago that Volutes EDP is not discontinued. But now, change status to Diptyque Boutique exclusive. Similar to Mizah and Vetiver from Dior. I can't reconfirm that you should hunt for this. But this beautiful iris-powdery with tobacco edge. Good quality is unique by itself. I do love it the most so far from my little tobacco-honey fragrance collection. which all of them... very masculine leaning.

May you all be witness to my love letter written for this fragrance; This literal liquid joy... simply the best perfume I’ve ever smelled in my entire life. I thankfully live in a city where a flagship store resides in. This was the first ever diptyque scent I smelt, and I instantly fell in feverish love. Despite having smelt upwards of 20 scents that day, I couldn’t stop smelling the paper this was sprayed on. I was enthralled in a way I’d never been before; the opening is adorned with the smell of a very sweet and light tobacco, with the wax of lipstick. I’m not sure why there’s no lipstick accord listed under this fragrance since the person running the store literally listed it as an opening note, but I digress; the waxiness of a lipstick gave me a warm hug, and then a gorgeous spiciness makes its way into the scent. The dry down is amazing, it settles into the most beautiful faintly sweet, yet spicy, musk I’ve ever had the pleasure of gracing my skin. This perfume is everything I’ve ever wanted. It’s a comfort, I smile when I put on my jacket from the night before and smell it on the fabric. Speaking of longevity- it stains. It stains, and for that I’m so happy. The sillage is strong, it’s not the loudest perfume I have but it’s definitely top three. Overall I really do think this is my favorite scent of all time. It makes me feel powerful and attractive, it demands attention; I’ve been asked if I’ve put on cologne when wearing it and that question made me genuinely happy. My adoring feelings aside, this is not a safe blind buy unless you know for a fact you like gripping scents, gripping unapologetic scents. This smell is bold, it’s unapologetic, you must wear this or it’ll wear you; yet another reason why I love it so much. Volutes, I truly adore you, and I never thought there would come a day where I found anything that could make me so happy and confident while wearing, but you’ve not left my mind since being graced by your tobacco hug. Arms I never want to leave. The day I don’t own this is the day all signs of life leave my body. Really.

I have been wanting to try this for such a long time but have never seen it at a counter...until now! I don't know why they keep it tucked away because it is a fantastic scent. I've been twice this week to spray on strip and skin. Serge Lutens was my introduction to niche perfume and I still love several Lutens scents. The biggest disappointment to me, though, was Chergui. Everyone said it was great and it had so many notes I love - honey, tobacco, iris... but it made me feel ill every time I tried it. It was too thick, too sickly, too stale. Volutes on the other hand is a little more translucent and evolves more evenly over time. I find it honeyed with weightless spices and tobacco. Don't let the words 'translucent' and 'weightless' deceive you, though, because they bely the tenacity of this scent. The paper strip has perfumed my office for two days! And the sample of skin from today is going strong 6 hours later (although I'll report back if it falls short of expectations as recently happened with Galop). Yet, this is a scent that is not hard work to wear. Sure, Tobacco Vanille is great when you are dressed up on a special winter evening and want to make a big impression, but you can reach for Volutes three seasons of the year and the scent will draw people in. I love this!

I am really surprised by this one, and regret not trying the colder weather offering by Diptyque sooner, as they are a side of this house that I am gaining much appreciation for. Volutes is what I imagine an alien coming to Earth would expect tobacco to smell like after observing how addicted human kind is to smoking it. Like the spice Melange from Dune, narcotic, sweet, alluring, spicy, sticky are the first words that came to my mind when I smelled it today. The opening is a dense, sweet, spicy explosion of honey and cinnamon with a clear civet like animalic undercurrent, an essential part of honey accords, as honey intrinsically has an animalic quality to it. However the animalic tone fades slowly and a robust incense note appears in the back, with plenty of vanilla, tonka, amber all cloaked in a veil of powdery iris. It's enchanting. Addictive. An exaggerated 'fantasy' version of tobacco, taking all the facets of tobacco and transforming them into the best version of themselves. As a non-smoker I much prefer this 'fantasy' version of tobacco much more appealing than fragrances like Lorenzo Villoresi Atman Xaman that smell like popping your head into an actual humidor. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys tobacco, iris, spicy or smokey ambers.

diptyque has such a lovely variety of scents but volutes has been my favourite from day 1. a bit unique considering the overwhelming floral and aromatic frags the house has to offer, i was so pleased to sample this, it has been no.1 on my list for a full bottle purchase! i'm quite partial to tobacco, honey, and iris notes, though the note that is most striking to me in volutes is the opoponax? [doesn't say here on fragrantica but is written as a note in boutiques] it has an almost gummy quality, such a smooth and well rounded frag that is slightly sweet, though i don't get a photorealistic honey (look for slowdive or guerlain's tobacco honey for that). a wonderful notable iris, a generally soft but pronounced scent, a creaaamy tobacco that has absolutely stolen my heart. so disheartened to see that they don't display volutes in boutique any longer, and it's near impossible to find on site so i believe it is now end of line :( don't miss your chance to smell it if the notes grab you in any sort of way, i haven't found anything near this scent besides felanilla by pierre guillaume, but even that doesn't compare. everytime i smell this i am overwhelmed with comfort and happiness, such a special perfume.

I love this perfume. Right off the bat, whilst this stays well on clothes it’s not great projection or lasting power wise. It’s perfect for a date night and those you’re going to be up close and personal with. It’s powdery and sweet with the right amount of smoke. The honey and iris are at the for front for me, the tobacco is barely tobacco which is exactly how I like it (I have a strong dislike for leather, tobacco, “rough/sharp smells” as I’d call them.) The tobacco is amazing because it’s just a whisper, just like the time period it is paying homage too. The tobacco creates so much depth to the honey and provides a slight “vintage store” smell that whilst sounding unappealing at first, is actually a lovely nostalgia. Others have described this as vintage powdered make up which is definitely the iris front and centre. I find this perfume gets sweeter throughout the night, but never overly. It’s decadent and for a woman dressed in all black. However whilst I’m very happy I received this as a present for a big achievement and it’s one of my favourite fragrances, I wouldn’t ever buy it for myself - it just doesn’t last or project long enough for the money.

So luxe. Take a humid, rotund, full-bodied, zaftig tobacco, then take warm spicy cinnamon sticks caramelized in a demi-sec, fragrant honey (just sweet enough, not overly so). Juxtapose with cool, dry iris; and you have Volutes. The tobacco is thick with the essence of crushed, vanillic oily tonka beans; lending a creamy, lotion-like cherry-almond accord to the body of this fragrance. Volutes is straightforward, yet elegant. A sophisticated, feminine-leaning take on a warm/floral tobacco fra. So pleased to have come across a 12ml still in box for only $12. i will wear the crap out this. It has a perfect autumnal vibe 🍂🍃🍁 for the true blue lover of niche genre. Volutes suits my personal style (vintage meets witchy meets Euro trash) to a T, year round. I wish I could tell my favorite popular female musical artist, Lana del Rey, I found her signature fragrance! 🖤🩰

Love at first sniff! Volutes is a soft, warm, deep scent that took me completely by surprise. I wasn't expecting anything amazing, as I'm usually not the biggest fan of tobacco fragrances, but Diptyque did it again: I've once again found a new favorite in their range. This is a spicy, dark and rich, seductive perfume, yet it manages to be airy and light at the same time. The scent doesn't suffocate anyone and I can easily wear this perfume in the office. Tobacco, honey and iris intertwine in a way that I can't get enough of. The combination is atmospheric, intoxicating and somehow nostalgic. Although there is no leather in the scent, it reminds me a little of a long-worn leather jacket that has seen life. The scent would certainly be perfect for autumn and winter, but I enjoy it immensely in spring as well. Bravo, Diptyque!

I usually dislike honey notes but was surprised by how much I loved this fragrance!! The honey blends shockingly well with the notes of tobacco and leather. This makes me feel like I’m smoking alone in the basement of a 1940s jazz bar with red leather seats and dim lighting, but the honey note cuts through with a delicious sweetness and feminine touch while still being a great scent for guys. The sharpness of the honey turns into more of a spiced vanilla once it dries down (which I honestly much prefer, the honey was too strong for me at first). It’s very dense and spicy so it really shines at nighttime in colder weather. Easily the strongest and longest lasting of all the Diptyque perfumes I’ve smelled. However I highly suggest trying it on your skin before buying it as not everyone likes the honey tobacco combo!

Volutes is a perfume I love to hate and I'm a bit confused about. First of all the opening for me is a terribly pungent alcohol note with strong iris by its side. Like ten or more minutes later it becomes the most intoxicating concoction ever with very well blended notes. Even though it has honey and spices its a cold fragrance which is not for everyone, period. I feel like a very select number people could pull this off. I can only imagine it on those kinds of people who seem strict, calculated, critical and who doesn't have a lot to say but you are very curious to know whats on the inside. My biggest criticism is about the performance. I mean... come on. I have tacky cheapies for 5 bucks that are stronger and longer lasting than this one.

Really versatile and not too overpowering. The tobacco is very mild, it adds a nice bit of smoke and maturity to this fragrance. Mostly the honey, styrax, and iris are what dominant this fragrance to create an excellent base. In classic Diptyque fashion you go nose blind to this fragrance immediately, but throughout the day you get wisps of cinnamon, styrax, and honey. The iris is excellent, it's not that floral rather powdery, which really lightens the scent. Overall, its extremely well balanced and an excellent daily fragrance for the colder months.

I looove this!! Maybe also because I was expecting an abrasive tobacco. But no, this is a softly spicy, powdery, unisex woodsy creation, with ample amounts of styrax (I love this note) I barely get any tobacco, not sure why it's there but it's not really my favourite note so i'm loving this as it is. Smells super niche, not overpowering. I would love this on a man, but I love it on myself too! Badass woman with a sweet side once you get to know her better! Iris, tobacco & sweet! It’s unisex but i wouldn’t like the man who wears it or maybe on a younger guy. Later edit 3 years later (the initial review was 2 months after buying, in winter): i cannot stand this anymore 😅 I tried it in every season, before eating, after eating, morning, evening, i tried using it for the car ...just no, i have still half a bottle. It feels cloying, gives me headache, i have a feeling that i cannot breathe.

Bready iris, vintage lipstick and cosmetic powder, honeyed and very light, unlit tobacco with dried flowers. This scent smells of sensual cold nights, jazz and warming spirits. I think, artistically, they truly managed to capture the memory this perfume is supposed to evoke. A voyage overseas in another, golden, era where the thrill is still alive and the time feels slow and eternal. The destination? Exotic and mysterious, feels like a step towards new horizons and a hidden world.

I mostly get honey tobacco, with some floral hints in the background. The fragrance is very unique, and very mature. I haven't smelled anything like that. It's daring, sexy, comforting, spicy, and somewhat sweet and enveloping. The projection and longevity are good, and it is suitable for both day and night. It's perfectly unisex due, to the addition of the tobacco note. This is my first tobacco-based fragrance and I truly loved it. It was such a great addition to my collection!

Got Volutes EDP as the first bottle from Diptyque...I was in love with Philosykos because I was looking for fresh, delight smell for hot day...but I didn’t like the top note on skin so I turned to other bottles. I decided back with sweet fragrance and Volutes gave me a wow...tender blend of honey and tobacco, not too harsh (Tobacco Nuit AC was a first choice) it reflects my trully favorite things “honey, sweet, more masculine with mutually feeling”

Opens boozy, like warm brandy. Quickly settles into a soft, powdery, honeyed tobacco. The honey continues to come out on the dry down as does the woodiness of the styrax. The iris isn’t independently identifiable in this but lends its softness to tie everything together. Beautiful composition, especially for a cold day. Very unisex and to my nose, a touch more feminine. Performance is decent but it could use one refresh mid-day with an atomizer.

There is something really evocative about this fragrance that grabs my emotions and makes me fall in love with it. It's a very romanticized tobacco, makes me think of actors smoking in old-school movies. I appreciate that despite it being sweet and smokey, it never gets cloying or too much. I really like the iris note in this and to my nose there is something a little bit fruity in there, like a slightly fruity tobacco drenched in honey.

The scent is like a cloud of warm, slightly sweet tobacco, dried fruit, and soft spices. The opening has hints of honeyed iris and plum. A smoky, resinous warmth that feels elegant and nostalgic without smelling dated. The incense and balsamic notes give it a smooth, almost meditative quality. Despite its richness, it never feels overpowering. It’s a great Fall and Winter scent that feels suited to cold weather and layered clothing.
