Rising Mysore

Rising Mysore is the third release by the house Dix&Zak. And they have nailed it once again. An astonishing oriental fougere composition, which reminds me of some classic vintages from the 70's era. I feel it is an immaculate fusion of east and west. The hathkora lime, basil, lavender, and jasmine combination offers a bitter-citrusy and herbaceous opening . There is also a hint of cooling mint like vibe in the backdrop. This gives it a barbershop like profile. The substantial use of Garam Masala in the mid register adds some sharp spiciness, which changes the pattern of the composition as the spices become more dominant (Garam Masala is a term used when spices such as nutmeg, coriander, cinnamon, cloves, black pepper, turmeric, bay leaves, etc. are mixed and ground together into fine powder to be used in cooking). There is also some star anise note, which reminds me of Opium Pour Homme by YSL. This Spicy aromatic accord, along with the jasmine, stays quite dominant upto the mid base. However, in the dry down, spices tend to settle down and the composition transitions into warm woody scent. Dix&Zak have used two types of sandalwood in here. The first is East Indian sandalwood, known to have lactonic profile. The second is Mysore Sandalwood, which has its own spicy creamy elements. I also get a light licorice sort of vibe, which probably is a combination of Dark Javanese patchouli and frankincense. However, I cannot confirm for sure though. I would say there is light smokiness on the edges. Longevity is approximately 4 hours, after which time it turns into a sweet creamy musky skin scent. Thus, it is definitely not for those that judge the quality based on longevity in my opinion. A very well done and exquisite blend that has complex, natural smelling and uplifting profile. I was missing something

What a beautiful, natural, spicy scent. There is so much going on between all of the citruses, spices, herbs and woods. Every time I wear it, I pick up on something different. There is a lot of complexity here and a lot of the materials are rare to see in perfumery, which adds to the interest. Even with the unique ingredients, there is a welcome familiarity here. I used to go to an old-school barbershop with my father when I was little and I always walked away smelling so fresh and spicy and Rising Mysore really conjures up that same feeling. Maybe the best part is the patchouli and sandalwood in the drydown, which on me lasts quite a while. I've heard people say this only lasts for a few hours on them, but I got a solid 7-8 hours. Anywho, this is a real gem by D&Z.

Here is another holy grail fragrance that is very difficult to come by. It is, as another has commented, a beast during the first hour. I think it may be even better than Bortinkoff's Amber Cologne. This one has a wider range of notes, all natural, and blended beautifully. It could be worn during any season, and any place, especially after the first hour. It is smooth, sophisticated, yet not necessarily for just the more mature (old) among us (like me). I raise my wrist to my nose often because there are just so many lovely discernable notes. I think I will have to try the 2 subsequent versions of this one. I would always want some form of it in my collection.

A beautiful barbershop kinda scent with lot of twists... Something which you can drench with immediately after shower.... 8/1/2020 After almost 2 months of purchase i must say that , like i have heard before about natural perfumes, this does macerate even on bottle.. Now the sandalwood notes are much more prominent and i must say that the longevity and improved as well.. This is a gem in my collection ....

Amazing, quality materials used here. This is a superb barbershop type fragrance with the richness and depth fragrance enthusiasts looks for. It’s citrusy, herbal, woody, incense, spicy, all mixed together to create a very well balanced blend. Definitely unique in its genre and a solid offering from this brand !!
