Thorn Apple

A very realistic apple scent that's obviously discontinued, and quite hard to find; but if you can find it don't ever hesitate buying it. I found DL & Co's thorn apple at a local high-end beauty boutique. It was among other heavily discounted fragrances (some Miller Harris, a bunch of MOR scents, TokyoMilk, some Aroma A... you get the idea) and somehow I picked out this golden roll-on to test. Since DL & Co seemed to be a natural perfumery the roll-on was quite yucky, smelled a little bit turned. I wouldn't have tried it at all if I didn't smell the absolutely delicious woodsy apple note. Even when the oils were a little bit off, the apple note still came through and smelled so realistic -- as if I were sniffing the skin of an ambrosia -- that I was fascinated. Thorn Apple is not some chemical DKNY apple scent; it smells very natural. As the scent develops the tiniest hint of woodiness emerges from oakmoss and vetiver. It's not sweet at all, and oh so lovely. I don't smell any patchouli on me. If there's any it must be a very clean type. The scent doesn't veer into any new directions from there, but I'm absolutely fine with that. I'd never call this "potent" or "rich", but more a "quality woody fruity scent". I don't detect any sharpness like a previous reviewer mentioned, but perhaps it's because the fragrance has aged. The overall impression of Thorn Apple is very true to the image of sitting underneath an apple tree in early morning hours. The scent is absolutely refreshing, well-blended, and not outdated at all. I kept thinking about it and went back to the boutique a month later to get one. It was one of the only two left. Longevity is about 4 hours and projection moderate. The roll-on design makes it extremely easy to reapply though. Also it's got the most beautiful rollerball design I've ever come across.

This perfume reminds me of the poisoned apple in Snow White--it's heavy, rich, seductive and has a sharp note that smells not quite safe. Very potent--not a daytime perfume or a casual one. Lasts forever. I put it on in the morning for an evening out. It's ideal for a whiskey-soaked night of seduction.
