Aquatic Vanilla

I own both JHAG Vanilla Vibes and this one. I actually prefer the Dossier version. The opening isn't as mineral heavy , or salty. The vanilla is stronger in this one as well, the dry down is a soft , breezy non cloying vanilla. I live in an extremely humid climate and I'm a sweaty gal, this doesn't smell musky on me. I get no nausea and the potency compared the original is better, also this one lasts so much longer. For me personally this is my perfect vanilla , it's not gourmand, I can't smell the musk. It also just wears so beautifully through and through. For me this is a year round scent and can be used for layering. Also it doesn't smell like sunscreen or tropical. It fades into a not too sweet, not artifical soft balanced vanilla that melts into the skin. Truly an underrated gem.

As someone who originally could not afford the JHAG version, using this dupe got me to try the JHAG discovery set and try the actual OG Vanilla Vibes. This is what dupes *should* do, inspire so much curiosity you end up trying it anyway. Love that they maintained the idea of a sugar-less vanilla, this is not a gourmand and most certainly is aquatic. The top notes sometimes come off a little bit like bug spray, but once you move past that it’s an easy dry-down to the salty vanilla tonka. It’s too grounded to be a purely summer scent, too oceanic to be an actual winter scent, too alive to be a fall scent, and too dark to be a spring scent. It rejects time and place labels and I love it, the first perfume to get me into perfumes overall.

I had doubts about this one for a blind buy but fell head over heels for this one. Close your eyes and imagine sitting on a sandy beach, it’s almost time for dinner and you are picking up your towel off the warm deck chair. Your coconut sunscreen is faintly on your skin while your salt water dried towel gets thrown around your tanned shoulders as you head in. Right before you enter your cabana, you see a street vendor offering up ice cream that you can’t resist and take a vanilla cone back to your room as a treat. Somehow this grabs all of that in a warm blanket and puts it into a fantastic summer fragrance. I will be wearing this quite a bit for the rest of the season.

I blind bought it for $25 with free shipping from the Dossier TikTok shop, so my expectations were low. I was pleasantly surprised when I got it, and it has quickly become my favorite summer scent. I’ve put quite the dent in the bottle, and that says a lot coming from someone with a decent sized collection. It smells like summer in a bottle, you get the marine notes, the coconut, vanilla and orchid throughout the wear. It’s sweet and delicate, and addictingly fresh. It’s an easy reach, and perfect for the sweltering Texas summers. This is a love, and a spot on dupe of JHAG VV.

I LOVE this perfume. For its value, it lasts a lot longer than I expected and wears really well on my skin. I was worried it would smell too salty or sweat-like, but the sandalwood notes balance it perfectly. I would recommend this for other people like me who love vanilla but dislike a lot of gourmand scents. You get a lot of the vanilla smell without it being too cloying.

Marine, ozonic, salty, coconut, vanilla and orchid with a tiny bit of sandalwood in the base. I absolutely love this and prefer it to the OG. It smells like Beach Air. Think white sand, crystal blue water and an exotic atmosphere.

Smells like a photorealistic beach day. I couldn’t place what was so familiar about it but it literally just smells like the beach. I love it.

Unlike some Dossier releases, I cannot compare Dossier Aquatic Vanilla to its inspiration Juliette Has a Gun Vanilla Vibes. That said, Dossier Aquatic Vanilla is a really nice and somewhat unique fragrance. This is quite possibly the most feminine aquatic fragrance I've gotten. I say that because I am a male and tend to go with masculine and unisex fragrances like the CK One flankers. Aquatic Vanilla sounded like I would enjoy and I do. I really only get the aquatic/sea water open, the really prominent vanilla with a slight coconut and orchid in the mid and a sandalwood and slight musk in the base. That said it could be the sandalwood itself as it tends to be a musky note. I do not detect the berries, rose or benzoin at all. Considering how a similar aquatic fragrance with red berries went (that being Armaf Club de Nuit Milestone) I am glad. I got strawberry from that. Aquatic Vanilla does not have that thankfully. I think the orchid is what makes this fragrance more feminine unisex. It is not a fragrance that men like me can't pull off, but it will be one that you will need confidence to pull off. Mind you, I do wear Stetson which many consider a unisex fragrance despite being masculine centered. Performance is fine. I don't get beast protection or longevity. Seasonality is for spring, summer and maybe warmer fall days. I say during spring and summer nights and fall during the day. It is casual and work friendly. Overall I rate Dossier Aquatic Vanilla is a 7.4 because it is fine. A bit different but can lean more feminine than unisex for men. I am not saying that as a bad thing, just a know before buying thing.

I won't compare Aquatic Vanilla with the composition Juliette Has a Gun on which the Dossier release is modeled, because I've only smelled Vanilla Vibes once, but it has the same beach vibe here. It's not a particularly sophisticated scent, it's supposed to give you summer vibes, and it does. Coconut, slightly salty vanilla with a slightly floral, bright accent. It reminds me of the smell of a body covered with sunscreen after leaving the sea. Skin treated with sunscreen and sea salt dripping from it smells something like this. The scent is warm, but sunny and not heavy at all, perfect for a carefree moment on the beach. The vanilla here is not overly sweet, it only becomes more powdery and creamy over time. In my opinion, it is not a typically feminine fragrance, unisex with a feminine bias, but it smells intriguing on men's skin. Satisfactory parameters, Dossiers hold quite well and Aquatic Vanilla also has a good longevity of about 6 hours, moderate projection. 7/10

I haven’t tried the Juliette has a Gun inspiration so I can’t compare it, but as a stand alone fragrance this is very nice. There’s very realistic aquatic note in the opening with just a hit of rose, a soft woody, creamy base note with just enough coconut to enhance but not overpower it. Like a gentle sea breeze on your warm, salty skin after a day at the beach. The vanilla comes through more strongly on the dry down - I rather wish the fresh opening notes would stay around longer but it’s still a lovely fragrance.

I don't like most dossiers for being cloying but with this one in 100ml discounted on the clock shop I was like, ok let me try this. And it's good. It's pleasant, inoffensive, and a unique take on vanilla. This is my intro to so-called marine vanilla, haven't tried jhag or replica myself....but! I reccommend this especially if you can get a deal like I did 💸

I’m not a marine scent person, but I could see myself wearing this in the summer sometimes. I got in a vanilla set. I have not smelled the original. The smell is very beachy and sort of like a nice classic sunscreen. I could see a lot of people liking this, so I may end up giving it away, but the description is spot on.

This smells like BUG SPRAY. I thought I got a bad batch so I returned it and got another bottle but nope! It’s awful, I get a hint of something that may have potential but that bug spray chemical smell is so SHARP and awful!! Yuck...done waste your money on this.

Dossier is very hit or miss for me- and in terms of being a dupe this might be a miss but i actually think this is a totally hidden gem that i find to be more artful and intriguing than the original. This is what replica’s beach walk SHOULD have been- it has a certain pleasing coconutty vanillic backing, not too strong or feminine, fairly unisex, and some kind of marine-y note, but the standout for me is that this fragrance really creates such a vividly realistic effect of smelling overheated dry sand on the beach. I can see it being too much for a lot of people who are maybe looking for something more palatable, but i love how photorealistic this is and how much it creates an experience that goes beyond scent- because i feel like i can completely touch and feel the chalky sun baked sandiness this evokes when it hits my nose- almost too much, like its too overheated in a realistic way, im entirely transported somewhere. Again, this is both interesting and transportive but also could have a lot of general appeal still- margiela and their replica line really should take notes from this instead of whatever vaguely tropical floral BS they made for beach walk- this actually feels like it encapsulates a whole memory and a whole atmosphere. And for that i give this two thumbs up Im surprised none of the other reviewers mentioned the dry heated sandy quality of it bc that above everything else in the mix really sticks out to me in kind of an abrasive (in a good way) manner. Am i crazy?? Did i get an odd batch??

What a beautiful fragrance. Smells very similar to what it’s trying to replicate, however stands very strong on its own. It smells like summer in a bottle; warm skin heated from the sun, as well as ocean air stuck to your clothes and hot sand lingering all around. The smell is very comforting, I found in the winter the notes get kinda lost in the crisp air and come off slightly bugspray-ish if you spray too much, however in the summertime this perfume radiates. ☀️

It’s so weird. Sometimes I love it and some times I hate it. Sometimes I feel like I’m on the beach drinking coconut water straight from a coconut with added vanillas. And then other times I feel like I smell like a WET DOG. 😩😩😩. Also there is something in the ingredients that trigger headaches for me so I don’t reach for this much at all.

Been layering this with Hawas Black....resulting in a green tea, bamboo, vanilla, sandal Japanese incense, like experience----think; wet, fresh cut grass, early in the morning, by the salty beach air.

Don’t waste your money, you get what you pay for. Egg smelling, I hate it.
