Vik

Vík was launched in 2019 and is part of the Iceland Collection, created by the niche brand Dotti Perfumes. The collection pays tribute to the strength of the Scandinavian people, to the beauty of the aurora borealis and the forests of Iceland. In addition, there is a concept worked in the background, which brings the language of Runes, where each fragrance has its own personality. The Icelandic word Vík means cove in English language and this fragrance symbolizes Iceland's southernmost village, located on the main ring road around the island (called Vík í Mýrdal). This is where can be found one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in the world, with black sand. Its rune is Algiz and represents protection; connection of the being to the spiritual plane; optimism. Its composition lists notes of bergamot, grapefruit, calone, eucalyptus, and tarragon, in the head; Jasmine Sambac, damask rose, ylang-ylang, violet, and Alpine tea, in the body; Elemi, Oakmoss, Patchouli, Muscenone (Firmenich patented molecule), coumarin, labdanum, and Vanilla, in the base. On the skin, Vík clearly shows that it is the feminine fragrance of this collection. Once applied, it has a strange and medicinal content, but it is so ephemeral that it doesn't bother. Immediately, the jasmine takes the reins and shows that it still does beautiful and will never be an outdated ingredient in perfumery. In fact, it seems to exist right on top of the composition, because it throws itself over the grapefruit and mixes with the calone, masking any tone that could bring a touch of masculinity. And along with bergamot and eucalyptus, that wouldn't be difficult. And then we have the Damask rose, so elegant and present in many world creations. But incredibly, in here it doesn't dictate the rules. Vík's heart beats with ylang-ylang and a plasticized floral that comes from Alpine Tea, which, oddly enough, is not an herb, as many may think. This is one of the names given to an eight-petal flower, whose scientific name is Dryas Octopetala and is part of Rosaceae. Another name also used is White Dryad. This floral and fruity smell, sometimes artificial, sometimes semi gourmand, carries nuances of red fruits and vanilla. And the dense musky base, prepared with musks, elemi, and coumarin gives a caramel smell, almost childlike, during evolution. Vík is classified as a Fruity and Floral Chypre, but I interpret it as a light Floriental whose durability is excellent. For me, it's the female part of the Profusion Perfume, worked aside and coming to life. An interesting sight that does not appeal to the famous smell of burnt sugar obtained from the excess of Ethyl Maltol.
