Rosa Carnivora

This is a very dry unisex rose in the vein of Rose 31–originally intended as a rose fragrance for men. It shares many qualities. Daphné Bugey seem to be creating Rose 31 iterations for various clients. A side-by-side comparison reveals Rosa Carnviora to be drier and woodier, accentuating the sweeter spicier facets of Rose 31. The dry down is patchouli vetiver forward that remains in the realm of musky patchouli. I detect a similar dry down to another patchouli-dominant fragrance in the range– Cannabis Patchouli.

This smells like an iteration of Rose 31... As though the perfumer had a draft variation that she's given to the house of Dries Van Noten. If you enjoy Rose 31, you'd enjoy Rosa Carnivora.

This is a well blended rose fragrance, natural and soft. I will love to bathe myself with this if it wasn't $350

A strong version of Rose Ardoise from Atelier Materi! Really goood! Will be picking this one over Rose Ardoise!

Third one from the new DvN range I've tried and it's three for three in the Yummers column. The rose is less dominant than the name implies and certainly less so than in the other similar offering from the same range (Raving Rose, which I preferred), this more of a soft musk. Like the others below me have said it's not especially groundbreaking but it is very wearable and if I had a full bottle (unlikely at this price tbh) I could see myself wearing it a lot. I can still smell it on my skin ten hours after application.

This is just Rose 31, right? It's rose and vetiver and musk in almost the exact same proportions as Rose 31 but probably cheaper and definitely lighter and more ephemeral. So if you like Rose 31, but only after it's dried down for about 4 hours, and you don't want to pay those absurd Le Labo prices, check this one out. (Disclaimer: Rosa Carnivora may not actually be cheaper, but I'm too indifferent to confirm.) Edit: My god, it's actually even more expensive than Rose 31. WTF

Opens green and fresh, a pleasant rose that feels a little out of my tax bracket? I've noticed some intentional 'aging' to the Dries Van Noten ouvre, which makes sense at its price point! The older women with the money to pay for this don't want to smell like highschoolers or club kids. Dries down to a balsamic / vanillic hay very quickly, you get maybe an hour of fresh rose. This is really nice, but not for me.

Everlasting vintage rose! I could still smell it on my skin the next morning. 18 hour performance. Dry down is a combination of Vetiver and patchouli. Not in a dirty but a clean twist. Not sure if this fragrance is a necessity, but it is synonymous with luxurious jacquard Dries fabrics.

The fragrance is most suitable for cooler days because of its heavy woodsy notes. Warm base notes are the most pleasant in my opinion. Over all it doesn’t deliver any more than what it is supposed to be. Mature unisex Chypre style fragrance for anyone that take their outfit seriously.

Anyone who may be missing the discontinued Elizabeth & James Nirvana Rose will find a suitable fill-in with Rosa Carnivora - not exactly the same, but both are mature, spicy roses...the Nirvana being a bit more green and Carnivora bringing a little more sweetness.

Errrrrrrm.... This is a bit lovely. It's earthy, slightly sweaty cumin and patchouli/vetiver with a metallic rose note. I've smelled similar perfumes to this but hey, I'm not unrealistic, nor am I looking for absolute innovation every time, I like it.

I agree this smells like JHAG Lady Vengeance. More earthy at first, but dries to the same musky clean rose 🌹 Smells like rose scented lotion on freshly showered skin. Love ❤️

This is very soft rose with spikey opening due to pepper. I like vetimere so much there. Dries down to feminine scent.

This fragrance really isn't all that and it reminds me of many other very woody and patchouli-drenched rose perfumes I have smelt before. It isn't a bad smell, but it lacks freshness and lightness and makes me think of pot pourri. It is also quite ambery, resinous and strong smelling to my nose. I wouldn't call this a romantic or a feminine rose perfume, but something that leans much more unisex in my opinion and could be equally worn by both a woman or a man. It isn't sweet in any way either, which I would have much preferred. Rose of No Man's Land by Byredo reminds me of this, which is also a very dry, slightly sour and dusty rose lacking freshness. I could only see it being worn in the fall or winter during the evening because of this, so as not to overwhelm others. This is NOT an office-friendly fragrance! The bottle is very pretty though and the longevity and sillage are very good, giving me a projection of about 6 feet and a wear time of 8 and a half hours. It is also a quality fragrance and you can smell it is made of very good ingredients. It is still overpriced though for what it is and I'd only give it a 5.8/10.

This is a rose rose rose fragrance. As in there is very little else I smell in it. Unfortunately the rose isn’t that pleasant and it’s very very powdery. It’s a strange combination of synthetic slightly off rose notes and baby powder. Eventually it turns more pleasent to my nose but this is around an hour in. At this point both the rose and powdery notes have faded drastically, allowing for just the slightest hints of a different floral note and a hint of earthiness. Performance wise Rosa Carnivora was just slightly weak all around. I got about 3 hours on longevity on my skin and under 1 on my clothing. A 2/10 here. Projection unfortunately was no better, Rosa Carnivora was a skin scent from the moment I put it on. At its strongest rising maybe 2 inches off my skin. A 3/10 here. Overall Rosa Carnivora is a 2/10 for me. It didn’t perform very well on my skin and over a 3rd of its life spans is a rose baby powder combination that just isn’t for me. Unfortunately the fact it takes over an hour of dry down to become enjoyable for me is absolutely crippling on a fragrance that lasts 3 hours total.

This gives me Coco Mademoiselle vibes. I personally don't like patchouli and it gives me an adult connotation, but really if this is your taste you will enjoy it. The thing about this perfume is that has an insane lasting time, I have never tested a perfume that lasted for 3 days, but this one does.

A lovely airy rose with some light green patchouli and vetiver notes in the opening. Not particularly woody. Fades completely within an hour, so I cannot speak to the drydown.

It's a very pleasant, fresh rose, but agree that it's pretty much copy+paste from Daphné Bugey's previous works and also similar to Amouage Lyric Man.

Smells identical to rose 31 but for twice the price and drys down into something akin to a bathroom spray

Chewy, musky black rose that is decidedly sugar-free. There’s also something that rings of anise or hard liquorice to me. Not like Redvines liquorice, but the hardtack Swedish stuff that punishes you for eating it. I know the goal for this scent was a raw, thorny rose but I just couldn’t shake the dank, mulchy soil notes. I also felt it was a bit too “mature” for my taste – I distinctly recall smelling a similar rose on my bisnonna. Longevity: at least 6h; I couldn’t take any more and had to bubble bath it off Mental Snapshot: Rain falls heavily, drenching the procession as they forge through your well-topiaried garden. However, you remain dry as old Egbert’s ashes. On your left: Leonie, the delicious estate attorney, clutching your arm. On your right: Waldemar, your winsome manservant, holding your umbrella. A shame your husband accidentally died... on purpose. tl;dr: must be worn with a mink and cigarette holder 🥀⛈

It smells your grandmother's rose. Like the church ladies who hugged you close on Sundays and smothered you in scent. I put on the sample this morning and am grateful that, 1 hour later, the fragrance is gone. This one is not for me, at least not yet. Maybe in another 30 years.

Cold green rose, tons of patchouli and pepper. I also get some very very oldschool smoky woody soapiness (not in the good way). Not my cup of tea.

The vetiver just seems to ruin it for me I am finding out I don’t like the note much these bottles(dvn) are kind of neat though

Testing the discovery set «Collection modepaleis». Take note; i rarely like rose and/or floral scents, PdM Delina La Rosée being one i love. This is an instant scrubber for me. It’s skreechy and too harsh. The rose is so intense and loud, and the vetiver makes no sense to me. Not for me.

The Rose 31 comparisons are not a joke at all. Not merely similar - this is fully a dupe, from the same designer! Rose 31 was my first entry into perfumery many years ago, and still a personal fond favorite. My original bottle of 31, now only a few drops left, was from the original formulation where the cumin was quite overpowering; I've tried the current 31 lately and this strong spice note has been toned down. This isn't much to the scent's detriment, actually; it feels as it simply reaches the same old drydown scent a bit earlier. I like both versions, and I only mention this because I also wondered if Carnivora would end up being a way to recreate that older formula at the price point it now required - nope! This is just Rose 31 with a few differences of minor degrees. It is a somewhat warmer scent, a little softer and smoother in the drydown, and perhaps a bit lighter, higher-toned. But the similarity is crazy, I sprayed them both on opposite wrists just to marvel at the closeness, and came down on the side of preferring 31. Obviously this is heavily impacted by my own nostalgia; by no means is Carnivora an inferior copy, and going by the reviews, others may find far more to love than I can distinguish. There's a surprising gulf in character between the two scents, but that's much more subjective than how similar their physical composition is. The vetiver in this is especially heavenly, and I think frontloaded a bit more than 31 as well. Still a recommend from me - but personally, I'm going to go back home to the original.

Directly comparing DVN's Rosa Carnivora with Le labo's Rose 31 shows that any purported similarites are only partial at most. Rosa Carnivora starts out very shrill in its (pink) pepperiness, the effect is so volatile that a comparison to the scent of hydrocarbons is all too easily made. Also the overdosed and largely unfractionated notes of vetiver and patchouli (and unlisted cannabis?) is heavily suggestive of sweat and pot. Saying this is 'polarizing' is a nicer word than many. In comparison Le Labo's Rose 31 is a much more softly woody rose. The wood is not particulary smoky or (fake) oudy, ...but there is slight hint of Le Labo dill. Later in the drydown, an odd peppery note does appear, . ..but it is milder and more delayed than one from natural pepper oil Actually, the Rose 31 effect is similar to Akigalawood (unlisted), ...but could be (an)other synthetic(s), Or else/also, possibly showing interplay with fractionated vetiver and frankincense (olibanol). Overall, Rose 31 is a relatively pleasant and inoffensive fragrance compared to Rosa Carnivora, ...though to be clear, it is not in anyway exceptionally pleasurable or sublime either.

Rosa Carnivora is a contemporary full blooded and unsweetened rose with the typical woody green and earthy facets of Vetiver with Patchouli. The spicy character of pepper and a touch of cumin like dirtiness, similar to Le Labo's Rose 31, probably should create the carnivore aspect, but is far away from getting dangerous. Warm musk envelops the whole aura with good longevity and projection...on me. I like it and the bottle made of glass and printed porcelain looks amazing and even "feels" good when touching. Nevertheless it lacks some creativity, wondering if Daphné Bugey, perfumer of this Rosa Carnivora, Le Labo's "Rose 31" and the even similar Penhaligon's "Much Ado About the Duke" and L'Artisan Parfumeur's "Arcana Rosa" is loosing creativity or was she permanently pushed to create similar fragrances? I like a few fragrances from the Dries collection, but sadly the collection is, connecting to the beautiful world of Dries van Noten, a little underwhelming regarding ideas, creativity & curage.

Rosa Carnivora, ...really? The rose that eats meat? ...and judging from its nose-curdling opening, also guzzles gasoline. This is the most profoundly 'nope' scent I've smelled in awhile. OMG, this smells like how its own badly made dupe is supposed to smell! With notes of rose, vetiver, patchouli, and bucket-loads of pink pepper, at its most shrill, this is just a misstep at the conceptual level. This is also reminding me of Lancome's abysmal, Hell of a Rose (...yes, its real name), ...but this may actually be worse. I find little redeeming about this fragrance, but even so, ...I always say "sample everything you can", just to learn from the experience. ...so I suppose that includes this too.

I think I’ve learned that the more expensive the perfume, the less I, personally, like the rose note. This smells like a VERY acidic rose to me, especially in the opening. And yes, animalic in a way I don’t love, but I guess I had that one coming. Unfortunate, because I love a deep rich warm rose and I love vetiver and this should be a hit for me, and yet. Is not. But know that it could be for you, I really think this is a problem of personal preference rather than fragrance quality.

Even though I am not a rose note fan I like this blend. Rose is not jammy but full bloom and red. Very realistic and the mic with patchouli is also very balanced. It has a touch of spiciness and a touch of sweet-sourness (guess the labdanum). Unfortunately the beauty of the beginning is not there for too long- it gets creamy with less rose on the dry down. If only the opening could stay!

This is the most beautiful, captivating scent. Elegant rose and mysterious vetiver combine to make the most unique fragrance. It’s feminine and wild. I feel like I should be wearing an evening gown with a leather jacket. The longevity is longer on me than most anything else. The introduction to this scent has altered my top 5 fragrances of all time.

Too rosy, it’s a deep rose and the patchouli is too strong for me. I find it a little bit too mature for now, I expect to find this scent at some fancy place in a lady wearing a pencil skirt and formal attire but with and dark edge, that you know this woman will go to and underground pub after the elegant reunion.

I see the similarities with LL Rose 31 but also Thé Noir. It has this jammy spicy rose with a dense woody undertone (amber molecules and cashmeran). It’s not as sweet as TN but shares that tobacco dark tone. Layered this with Raving Rose for a slightly punchier spiky kick on top and it worked well!

I find this to be a lovely crossover of Rose 31 and The Noir 29. Opens with a warm soft true rose, not dewy or fresh, but just classic (without feeling vintage) then moves into vetiver-woody-musk territory for the remainder. Not entirely original, but a nice alternative to the aforementioned.

I'll say this, these fragrances are blended far better than Le Labo's Scratchy synthetic messes. A fresh, green rose; not sweet, not really powdery either. If you close your eyes you could smell a fresh ivy note. More like the leaf of a rose than the petals or the bud.

Very similar to Rose 31, but a bit sweeter and more airy and herbal. I like it!

Daphne Bugey has this one really cool trick
