Concrete Lightning

On the bottle they list electricity as one of the notes and I thought "that's stupid" and then I smelled it and realized it was not stupid and somehow they put electrical current into this juice. Sharper in the beginning as people noted, but dries down into a nice skin scent. I love Iso E Super so I'm not mad about this. An interesting, original take on a skin scent, even though I guess people were expecting more from it. I see her where she is at and love her for what she is. Similar vibes to Steamed Rainbow for me though rainbow is a little more earthy; I think Concrete Lighting just works better with my skin chemistry. Does smell different than the candle! I think the candle is a little more earthy if I recall correctly but I may be remembering the wrong candle all I know is that I liked the perfume better I found it to be prettier.

Opens up light, faintly spicy, faintly smooth aldehydic-ozone, but pretty soon the steam accords, some rainy, wet accords, and a present concrete sensation. The steam accord kind feels like being in a clean sauna, but it’s not overbearing—this bears a musky bias in which it’s actually pleasant. Overall for the drydown, a smooth ozonic/mineral/aquatic profile with the faintest greens+spices to accentuate the cleanliness here. This is the type of frag you put on after a shower and it just screams and masculine to me IMO, but honestly anyone could wear this. Quite the streak from this house of the # of frags that I have come across that I’d want a FB of, or at the minimum, completely mesmerized by. + 1 * Clean -> -- Into the FBW queue it goes.

An absolute impeccable depiction of the candle. If you love the fragrance of the candle, you will love this perfume. I've been waiting for this EDP for what feels like forever, and it did not disappoint. For years I would put the candle wax on my wrist to bring Concrete After Lighting to life on my skin, now I don't have to take such unusual measures. Bravo, David!

Hard agreement with everyone saying it smells just like the candle. I was not disappointed by this at all, and I'm contemplating picking up a backup just in case. Love this one, it's second only to IDKW.

I haven't had the chance to smell the original candle fragrance, so I can't attest to how well this has been translated into its full bottle form. Still, this is quite the interesting experience, albeit a little flat for my liking. I feel like a lot of DS & Durga scents wager on either spectrum of being incredibly short lived and imperceptive (e.g. Steamed Rainbow) or concerningly eternal (e.g. Amber Kiso) to my nose. This unsurprisingly, falls into the former and leans heavily into that iso-e-supery base that's in a lot of DS & Durga's dna. On first spray, this goes straight to the back of your head, like a splitting migraine that wracks your sinuses with an electrical surge of malfunctioning circuitry. It's sharp, gritty and heavily ozonic. As it dries down though, there's this sweetness that blooms out from underneath and rounds things out just slightly. This makes it quite addictive and makes me want to keep smelling it to figure out what's going on exactly. I would say this is a somewhat challenging perfume if you're not into something overly sterile and metallic. Though, it is ubiquitous and I can see this being worn at anytime by an ambitious individual. I do appreciate the imagery this evokes for me and enjoy the experience of wearing it. Billowing and charged Cumulonimbus hanging over a city. Metal sculptures in an avant-garde art exhibit. An empty laundromat at night with fluorescent lights beaming down on the white tiles. It's quite fun, but hard to convince myself it's worth a full bottle outside of the novelty it provides. I wouldn't say this scratches that petrichor itch, more industrial electricity, so skip this one if that's what you're hoping for. Still worth a try purely for the experience if you can get your hands on a sample :)

Loved the candle and felt compelled to try the perfume version! A lot going on in this one. I will say I'd been messing around with more ozonic, petrichor, aquatic scents, but a lot of them have this fungal undertone to them that doesn't sit well with me. So far, Concrete Lightning gets it right. There's that spicy grass on top with this wet and stone-like powdery undertone, like the smell of cool sandstone. Yet somehow it still invokes what it says on the label, just a bit wetter. As if getting caught out in a thunderstorm in the city and trying not to get your nylons wet in your heels. That concrete note makes it more like the smell of damp cave, but sexier. A lot going on and the spiciness reads a little more masculine. It is unique but it also has very similar scent DNA to the other frags in this house, that almost-bergamot and iso-e-super hint that reminds me of their I Don't Know What a bit more than I'd like. Overall I'd consider this easy to wear and will be adding to the rotation.

This is a great ozonic scent. The notes are hard to translate into what it actually smells like, but if you grew up in a city and spent a decent amount of time outside during summers, I think this will smell nostalgic to you on some level. It really is a fun, experimental-type of scent. It also kind of reminds me of the slightly damp smell of a science museum geared towards kids. Some mild mildew kind of vibe. If I could find a cheap bottle or if I made more money I'd probably have a bottle just for fun. Not offensive at all.

this smells exactly like lightning to me. right from the opening there's a spicy electric burn, slightly peppery but mostly just electricity. i don't really get that much grass or rain, definitely do get the steam accord though. i don't think this scent is meant to have super strong sillage, it's something closer to the skin and a more intimate little personal storm. honestly not the most wearable kind of scent but is super unique!

Quite a realistic rendering of the charged air before a thunderstorm: I wore this on an overcast day and I subconsciously kept expecting all meteorological hell to break loose. I love this type of harsh, moody, rainy scent and seriously considered buying a full bottle, but I do find it to be overpriced compared to many other very unique (and less weak, less linear, more complex) fragrances in this category.

This one was really different than I expected. I thought it would be more like “during the rain” by solstice scents since they share similar notes, but it’s not at all. Instead of smelling like cold, wet concrete on a rainy or dewy day, it actually smells dry and even somewhat dirty, like a real city street would smell. It’s very realistic and the steam accord is very present. If you want to smell like a somewhat dirty New York City street on a hot summer day, this one is for you

definitely captures the essence of a thunderstorm over asphalt, which is an impressive feat, but sadly it's a very weak skin scent. if it was MUCH stronger this could be a love, but alas! overall rating: 🩷🩷💔🖤🖤 2.5/5

The opening on me was kind of soapy and never fully went away - there were moments where I could smell the ozone and the concrete, but that lingering soapy smell was kind of a turn off.

disappointing iso e super bomb. the steam accord is most visible after sitting on skin for a while and successfully comes off a bit suffocating, similar to the heavy air after a thunderstorm.

Love DS Durg and have tried most of their recent releases. This one smells like Vics Vapor Rub on me. Or maybe a floor cleaning product. Had to wash it off.

got a FB for free from an employee friend (amongst a couple others, reviews coming soon)—david (and my friends) are right: this should be a candle, not a perfume. i like it as a Very Expensive linen scent. if you LOVE this candle, then get it. i like the candle, but i don’t want to smell like candles. it also has some of that BR450 arochemical tang that i noticed in brown flowers, which i dislike on my skin IMO. i’m thankful for the lovely gift. it’s not my cup of tea, but i’m sure it’s somebody’s. if you wanna smell like that candle, baby, go out there and smell like that candle. you deserve it.

If you like the candle, you'll love the perfume. It's my favorite candle, and I always try to stock up during the sample sale. I bought this the second I found out it was turning into a perfume and I am not disappointed at all. The Big Sur perfume smells somewhat different from the Big Sur candle, but this perfume is perfect. It has a little bit of the same DNA as my second favorite perfume from this line: sweet do nothing. It's that same hot sand note which here reads as electricity on hot concrete. This is where DS and Durga sets themselves apart. Love it. I hope they make it permanent

Does anyone know if this smells like the car freshener? I see it smells like the candle, so I assume it smells like the car freshener. The car freshener is one of my favorite scents, I would love to smell like that. I have never smelled the candle. I’m thinking I might go for it.

been looking for a photorealistic petrichor that lasts. this did not understand the assignment. heavy ozone/aldehydes that eventually settle into something green i can't place. good but not at all petrichor

uninformed guess: this will be a spiritual sequel to the long-discontinued Vio Volta, made actually wearable by borrowing from concrete accords vis-a-vis Allsaints' Concrete rain and CDG's Concrete.

I wanted to like this, but there is something very sharp in this fragrance that gave me nausea. I had to wash it off.

It smells like hot fresh concrete and cheap polish vodka.

Loved Steamed Rainbow.... Want to try this next
