Crystal Pistil

Transparent and sweet neroli and jasmin fragrance that sparkles around you in a cloud. Neroli and orange blossom are my favourite notes and here they are exquisitely done. Though this is a modern floral, it doesn't feel overtly synthetic. Agree it works as a perfume on its own for anyone wanting a slightly sweet and uplifting neroli/ musky fragrance, but it also is a lovely layering fragrance. I'd be so interested to know which in the line David Moltz intended this to work with. I can say that it makes Italian Citrus much brighter, fruitier and sweeter - almost in the territory of something like D&G Light Blue, but much more artistically sour and complex. I think it would work nicely with Atlantic Rose too.

This is fresh classic orange blossom but rounded and a perfect balance between fresh aquatic and bright floral. Luminous fragrance. In the league of 'best I ever smelt' perfumes, so it's on my gold standard list. It's perfect for this time between winter and spring. It was pure bliss on a 70° sunny day, kept smelling my arm and my friend absolutely loved it and said she needed it. This needs to be brought back for a limited time or just re-introduced. I'm familiar with a LOT of DS&D's discontinued catalog and special juices ..this is easily the most wearable and tops all the others. Please bring this one back. That wasn't a good call

Under rated big time!! So sad this launched at the worst time (early march 2020) and didn’t get a proper release since the world had bigger problems. I hope CP gets relaunched soon! They should get rid of the perfume enhancer mention though. Yes, this and IDKW are perfect to layer with your fav scents but I rock them solo 90% of the time. People are just too hung up on labels. This is just beautiful for the spring/summer. I agree, if Le Labo Citron 28 didn’t start production right before CP launched - I would have felt like Le labo was heavily influenced by Crystal Pistil.

I love everything about this, such a bummer that it was discontinued. In my opinion it works better as a standalone fragrance than an enhancer, as it really did not elevate anything I layered it with. Perfectly bright and intoxicating high quality floral that is unisex. The dry down is very sexy, slightly animalic but not cloying. Sillage and longevity are quite decent. This has D. S. & Durga written all over it compared to their recent, boring "fresh" releases.

Such a shame it’s been discontinued, I can’t imagine why. I know it was advertised as a fragrance enhancer, but imo it’s perfect on its own. It’s a beautiful wash of orange blossom, jasmine and musk. An easy reach in the summer heat, it’s not sticky, thick or screechy, it reminds me of a bath water splash in the best way possible. If you are looking for something similar, Serge Lutens Fleur d’Oranger is the older, more mature sister and still available.

I love this perfume, which smells the most rich in summer. It evokes the pacific coast, mid-morning, orange blossoms dewed by the now receding marine layer....Later in the wear the jasmine really takes over, and feels like when you stare into the clear blue sky, which I love. It is fresh and light. Though I wish it lasted longer but my skin resists perfume longevity. This is a very worthy perfume.

I’m not a huge floral fragrance fan but I adore this. It is a grown up, sophisticated floral that packs a punch!

I personally love it and to me it smells really similar to Rosabotanica by Balenciaga.

I was able to get a bottle of this now-discontinued fragrance on the resale market. I'm happy with my purchase, but I think I see why it didn't succeed. As a "fragrance enhancer", it's much more assertive than its competitors, with an actual scent pyramid and real presence -- maybe too much presence if what you're looking for is an aromachemical base for other fragrances. Crystal Pistil reminds me of a slightly elevated version of Juliette Has a Gun's "Anyway", the brands utilitarian everyday fragrance. It's has just enough musk, just enough florals, and just enough aquatic brightness to work well as an easy summer fragrance. I like the idea of civet in this kind of creation, and it’s definitely there in the background, adding a sharp tang to an otherwise polite composition. I tried layering this with DS&Durga's Vio Volta, their most polarizing scent. To my nose, the delicacy of Crystal Pistil was largely obliterated by Vio Volta, adding just the slightest sweetish fuzzy quality to Vio Volta's intensity. Based on this small experiment, Crystal Pistil will likely recede to the background when paired with a robust fragrance. Whether or not it "enhances" it is perhaps up for debate. But as a hot weather fragrance, it's just a bit more grounded and sophisticated than similar aromachemical-heavy "your skin but better" fragrances, and is perfectly pleasant on its own.

I've been testing this blind over the last few days. I had no idea this was a fragrance enhancer until I read the review below mine. This smells like a standalone fragrance in it's own right. The opening fools my my nose to thinking I'm smelling fresh grass. There's a little vinegar twang in there that reminds me slightly of Creed Chevrefeuille ambergris. As it goes on, the orange blossom becomes more apparent and I sense the dirtiness of the civet and musk. It's a little animalic musky but not overly so. The end result is vintage esqe white florals with a little dirty twist. Not normally something I gravitate towards so I won't seek a bottle, but it's not bad. Scent 6/10 Performance 6/10

Pleasant but synthetically overdosed floral musk marketed as a fragrance enhancer. On one hand you have some natural notes like orange flower, jasmine and ambrette seeds. But there’s also a heavy dose of synthetic paradisone, civettone and Iso Super E. Overall this is nice and can be used as a stand alone fragrance but it is slight and familiar. The feminine leaning scent has moderate sillage and very good longevity. Enjoy!

I would have guessed this had iris. It is not an enhancer like Molecule 1 or Not a Perfume. It is nothing like I expected...and yet I an really impressed and liking it. I tried it on with Love and Crime by Ex Idolo, and it oddly works really well. Maybe I like this even more than I thought. ..

Wow after the initial orange flower and a similar dish soap became a wonderful indolic,watery,flower fragrance. Super summer flower fragrance. Underrated . 8/10 Super performance. Not sweet in This!

I am sorry to say it but in the end it becomes the smell of a cologne even if it is classy! a better and cheaper alternative to the various tom fords!

This is kinda what I think of when I think of my mom, I love orange blossom and this is very pretty. Sad it was discontinued, but not pained

I quite like the opening of this but the drydown is just too synthetic for me. It opens with a really fresh green blast, very much pistil/stamin, and then softens into a clean, pleasant floral. If it stayed here I'd adore it, but before too long it dries into that very synthetic, almost chemical smell. I know Iso-E/ambroxan/etc are all meant to have distinct aromas, but to me they all possess a similar quality that my brain can only describe as "aerosolized milk" that I find so unpleasant. I get it most heavily from Iso-E, and I assumed that was what I was picking up in here somewhere, but it's not listed so I'm not sure if it's perhaps the synthetic civet or paradisone that's disagreeing with me. If you are not bothered by or sensitive to synthetics, or if you are simply anosmic to them, then this may be a winner for you. If they bother you a lot, I might skip it. I will also say of all the "fragrance enhancers" D.S. and Durga sell, this one was the nicest, I thought, and could easily be worn alone for a kind of a clean t-shirt-esque smell.

too aquatic for me i fear,, got it at a steep discount as a blind buy during ds&durga sample sale and the orange blossom w the aquatic notes makes it a little,.... too summery(?) it's like summer in a bottle but not in a good way (to me)--i prefer something a little more delicate tbh but i'd whip it out on a summer vacation

A shame this has been discontinued. It's such a pleasant aquatic flower petal accord. Smooth, buttery florals with a touch of warm musk and a slight animalic funk in the base that makes it seem natural and not just another pretty floral perfume. It almost becomes like soft dough or a waxy kind of putty in the dry down, which is where the photorealistic flower petal accord is formed in my mind. I think of running them through my fingers, feeling velvety and crisp and slightly waxy as you crush them to release their liquid- slightly vegetal too. I'll admit it's a bit odd as the orange blossom and civet seem to concentrate into something I would call a dank warmth, but I'm into it. It's like you've rubbed flowers into your skin in lieu of fully showering, yet it's still a bit soapy and clean.

Have you ever tried a fancy new deodorant even though your regular one worked perfectly fine? It’s a first-world tragedy when your regular deodorant doesn’t look cute and aesthetic next to your luxury high end products on your Instagram shelfie. So, you buy the Donna Karan Cashmere Mist deodorant and try it on... 3 hours later at work, you are regretting turning your back on plain old Secret because you start smelling like wet armpits. It’s not a horrible smell, I guess you could say it’s a very nice cute armpit scent...but who the heck wants to smell like a cute cashmere misty armpit? Not me. Cashmere Mist after 3 hours on an armpit is what Crystal Pistil smells like to me.

Ooooh yes. I love this fragrance. Really crisp, fresh, and aquatic orange blossom and jasmine fragrance. A little bit spicy from the pink pepper. Perfect for the transition from winter to spring. Musk and ambrette round the base out while keeping the fragrance effervescent and light. Reminds me so much of Citron 28 and Bigarade 18 from Le Labo (and some how cheaper and easier to acquire even though it has been discontinued). I really think DS&DURGA should consider bringing this fragrance back as a spring release.

LOVE! this perfume. I didnt even realize it was marketed as an enhancer...not necessary. Because it smells divine all on its own. It opens orange blossom with a hint of jasmine and a light musk. My housekeeper walked in and commented on how good the house smelled! its got a good sillage game and lasts! I love that for hours after spraying it on I can still smell it on me. Huge criteria for success in my book. I can't wait to layer it to see what evolves --- what would be the best???? I'll have to try several!

This is definitely a keeper! I received a package and the perfume sprayed in was Crystal Pistil... what a beautiful orange blossom and jasmine accord! I was blown away. It is a molecular fragrance so it lingers everywhere without being overpowering. It’s absolutely amazing, despite the scented package was positioned outside the door, all my house was filled with this beautiful and delicate smell. It shares something with D&G Light Blue but in a more refined and elegant way.

Why is this discontinued? It’s so good!!! Peppery orange blossom. It’s really light and pretty. Signature scent worthy. I find myself sniffing my wrist throughout the day. Highly recommend getting a sample if you love orange blossom. Luckily there are still bottles out there. I may have to get one before it’s too hard to find.

I get a nice orange blossom opening then all I smell is rubbing alcohol for the next 10 hours, in the middle of winter. Disappointing, not a love for me. I’ll revisit in the heat of summer. I tried this on its own. I think if this works for you it should work alone, no need to layer with others. Unless you want to layer.

Ds Durga is discontinuing Crystal Pistil. I don’t know what is definitely their more popular “fragrance enhancer”, but I’ll be sad to see it go. As others have said it’s a modern take on aquatic white floral summery fresh. I especially love the civetone and ambrette in the dry down. A fun fresh funk.

Orange blossom water, heady jasmine, and warm white musk. So enticing in the warmth of spring and summer! I admire the simplicity from a house that loves a back story.

A fresher much longer lasting version of sundazed. Super similar not as candy like as sundazed but still sweet.

Fresh watery almost sharp floral but never unpleasant. I never layered this it was great on its own.

-Opens as a nondescript white floral scent. -Dries down to pack a punch of spice. (-)
