Plumes

My review is for the oil version. I live in Australia, with various frangipani plants in my garden, and many big frangipani plants all throughout my neighbourhood. I thought it was important to mention that because keeping that in mind, I think this perfume was very cleverly and superbly formulated. It captures it all, the notes of the frangipani flowers, both the white with yellow insides and the dark pink ones which are fruitier and sweeter, the bitterness and woodiness of the stems, the greenness of the leaves and of all the other plants in the gardens. I love keeping this in my bag so I can sneak a bit on in the car on my way home from work to start unwinding, feeling relaxed as if I were already in my garden. Wow! Well done to the DS&Durga team! I love it. (My only gripe is that it could last longer...)

A beautiful ode to Australia, a Mecca exclusive here in New Zealand and Australia. On first smell, it smells exactly like lemonade ice blocks but then it dries down to a nice musky citrus. It smells as if it would sit within MFK's aqua cologne range.

I like this fragrance, but it doesn't smell as much like plumeria/frangipani as I was hoping really. There is something quite bitter and green about the opening that seems to last throughout this fragrance and there is something quite bitter and green about the heart notes too. I smell some of the coconut in the top notes, but again not as much as I would have liked. Frangipani is quite present in the heart notes to me as well, but not as present as the jasmine and the tuberose. I smell a greenness in the heart notes too. I kind of feel like the name "Plumes" is a bit of a misnomer for this offering by DS & Durga. It's more of a vague white floral blend that is a bit of a mish mash of everything. I liked the earthiness of the vetiver and the powderiness of the musk in the base, but I didn't like the fresh piney with a citrus nuance smell from the amyris and I feel like the base was a bit too woody and strong for my liking. I also feel like the whole fragrance in general is a bit too herbal and earthy to me. This perfume ended up lasting 5 and a half hours on me and it had a moderate sillage on my skin. It leans feminine, but I think a man could wear it too and I think that it would be appropriate for either casual outings during the day in the spring or the summer. Altogether, I'd give Plume by DS & Durga a 7/10.

This is super subtle. It’s a pretty frangipani and vanillary fragrance that is a skin scent. It has a very soft projection that’s perfect for days I want to wear something that isn’t overpowering. I have the oil version and it sinks in pretty quickly too which is good

Living in tropical parts of Australia I was so excited to see this release but was disappointed. First impression was 'ho hum', smelt kind of bland but then weirdly got a lemongrass smell which I was not expecting. Gave it some time on my skin but alas I did not get any frangipani let alone tropical vibe from this. Maybe it would grow on me with use but for the price not willing to risk it.

The profile looks good on paper but in reality it just smells like generic sunscreen or air freshener. I don’t really get any frangipani from this one, but the coconut comes through aggressively.

This is a disturbing duplicate of Marc Jacobs daisy. It smells identical but maybe even cheaper. Triggers terrible memories lol

Disgusting woody type incense smell, somewhat reminiscent of By the Fireplace by Margiela. Gross smell.

Smells like a cat pissed on rotty swampy flowers.

This opened a little sour, I thought of babywipes, and I’ve seen other reviewers mention acetone which is spot on. Thankfully it mellows out within 15 minutes and is much nicer than its first impression. I’d describe it as one part creamy jasmine/one part herbaceous greenery/one part sweet frangipani. Kind of reminiscent of a flowering lemon tree, with a bit of something extra. If you’re really looking for the other notes you can find them but for me they’re around to add a bit of dimension and not to stand out. Like I can’t smell coconut, but I can definitely smell creamy - hopefully you get the picture. I really like this but my opinion may be totally biased too, I’m Aussie and a total sucker for anything marketed as such. This brought to mind walking to school in those last few days before the summer holidays when the humidity is just stupid. Crystal pistil is still my favourite of D.S. and Durga’s floral offerings, but plumes if worth a sniff for sure. Edit: terrible longevity...

Plumes is D.S. & Durga's olfactive ode to Australia. Opens quite aromatic, citric-piney-balsamic (amyris) and laden with camphor due to the prominent laurel/bay leaf note before evolving into a humid and naturalistic white & yellow floral blend that veers more botanical than sweet. I also detected something akin to 'Fruit Tingle' Australian lollies in the opening; that fizzy, sherbet-like citrus sweetness is immediately recognisable. This is, in essence, Carnal Flower's frangipani-centric cousin or Florabotanica if its rose was substituted with tropical flowers. Not that is a dupe for either of those fragrances whatsoever (it isn't, to be clear), but it has a similar feel. EDIT: Revisited this one and did a skin test. This is straight up Fruit Tingle lollies with a pronounced amyris note. Very linear in its development.

A Mecca exclusive - how lucky we are to have this one! For me the opening was green/citrusy and I was not overly fussed. But the dry down - gee whiz!! I could not stop smelling my wrist. Creamy and musky. Could be Byredo's Velvet Haze's little sister. Call me mad but I could smell fresh bud in the middle there too. Silage moderate, but I got a good 8 hours out of it. Definitely a fun and sexy scent.

Was this just released? I'm not really seeing this advertised anywhere, but I really want to smell this the note look like they work so well together.

As far as I know, this is currently a MECCA exclusive in Australia. I do not doubt that it will become available elsewhere with time.
