Spirit Lamp

This was an impulse buy one summer. It starts out inoffensive enough: sheer peach, a hint of coconut, maybe a twist of petitgrain or some slightly bitter neroli. Nice, easy for summer. But, the more I wore it, the more I noticed the "hot metal" which I found nauseating at times. He seems to be really into metallic notes the past couple of years (Radio Bombay with its copper, Vio Volta which really made me want to hurl). The smell of metallic notes in perfume has all the appeal of getting a tooth filled without anesthesia.

This is a strange one and the name fits...I get hints of fruit, petitgrain, a little metallic crackle...still this is a quiet and subtle perfume...was lucky to get as a free gift with a purchase awhile back as I'd hesitate for anyone to blind buy this, and I don't think DS offers samples of this one...like the quiet little sister of Vio-Violta in some ways (with the fruit extracted in lieu of flowers)...avoid if you hated Vio-Viola, which most do!

Spirit Lamp by DS& Durga Spirit Lamp is a fragrance that evokes a forgotten corner of a botanical garden next to the highway, where a spirit of untamed wilderness thrives, unchecked and unexpectedly in a slick puddle of illicitly dumped motor oil. The initial impression is a thick, oily green of some swampy primordial reed, the smell of an extinct past that’s closer than we often care to think, its roots tangled in the earth, its leaves exuding an unctuous herbal musk. This greenness isn't fresh and invigorating; it's greasy, thick, almost suffocating. As the scent unfolds, a metallic tang emerges, the scent of rust or singed copper, an aggressively hotwired Dodge Charger counterpoint to the glossy, verdant heart. It's a scent that evokes anachronistic images of forgotten rituals and arcane practices, real prehistoric Fast & Furious living your life one-quarter mile at a time shit, a potent concoction brewed in the junkyard-slash-abandoned car lot cauldron of nature's darkest recesses.

Smelled to me like sweaty peaches when I tried it out, so it made me think-- a little unpleasantly-- of Call Me by Your Name, or Kissin' Kate Barlow's peach juice from Holes. It's kinda nice and definitely interesting, but not something I need. Maybe that's why you can only buy this in a travel size?

If anyone has a decant or bottle I will buy it off you! Been dying to try for ages. Thank you 🙂
