Iris Tuxedo

I only bought a 10 ml sample of this, mostly because I wasn't 100% sure about it, and it turns out I was right in being apprehensive. The blackcurrant sweetness ruins it, for me...it's just TOO sweet for mine. The iris, the plum, the myrrh, all in perfect balance, but that goshdarned sweet blackcurrant is out of place. It provides a jarring aspect to the whole mix, which unfortunately taints the scent, as a whole. Nonetheless, it's still a 7.5 / 10 kinda scent, but it could've been an 8.5 or a 9...

Luscious. This perfume is delicious and stays very close to the skin. Orris/Iris with the plum and black currant is a revelation. The fruit layers in this are are juicy and a little tart. Feels natural and sophisticated. Super interesting - never encountered a blend like this before.

Woody fruity iris. This perfume is fascinating. In the wearable art category. It reminds me of my grandfather's liquor cabinet that was made out of some aromatic wood with musky/fruity/boozy smells from the alcohol. Moderate sillage and good longevity.

From a sample: dry, earthy, waxy iris. Opens up with an earthy woody orris root. I get almost zero sweetness. After a few minutes the woody iris transitions to a waxy, lipsticky iris. Powdery more in a dusty way than makeup powder, like when you walk into an old dusty attic. More androgynous than unisex. Strange, but in the sillage I pick up a little bit of the plum, but off the skin it’s still a very dry waxy iris. Not a bad scent all; it’s smooth and high quality, but it’s lacking something. It’s too linear for my liking. Similar to Moncler Le Solstice, which I prefer to this. Update: after about an hour, the sweetness kicks in. Sweet, juicy, plum. Projection is very close to the skin, so I have to put my nose to my arm to smell it. I love this phase. I wish it projected more. May upgrade my sample to a decant to give it another test drive.
