Mimosa

A grown up mimosa. It starts with unexpected tones that remind me of the classic Guerlains. Feminine, delicate, soft, warm floral and powdery. Mimosa, linden, iris and vanilla may sound overwhelming but not in this fragrance. They are well balanced by the green notes in acacia and cassis. There are at least 5 notes mimosa like, floral -powdery, blended so well together that the end result you might think it is a new flower with multi-faces. Soon the top notes fade and become more supportive, the backbone for the base notes: sandalwood, caramelic tonka bean and vanilla. The orris is just a hint for the first 2 hours but it brings a lovely texture to the velvety dry-down. This fragrance could be a tempting choice for warming up an early spring day. 7.5/10

Ionones clearly loom large in DSH Mimosa, as I was reminded immediately upon application of violet soliflores! As the perfume dries down, I catch memories in wafts of Guerlain Après L'Ondée, so iris, too, appears to be implicated. The purple flowers do dominate over the yellow in this composition, but as I am an avid wearer of violet and iris perfumes, this alleged mimosa soliflore is a wonderful surprise. I do hope that this was not a limited edition (as is often the case chez DSH...)

A very pretty mimosa with green underpinnings, amber and wood to make it longlasting. I am enjoying this one very much and may buy a bottle after testing it some more. The scent does not have much development to my nose. The orris root, woods and amber do take some time to reveal themselves, but the mimosa and greens are there from the beginning. This is another soft skin scent but it does last on skin for quite a few hours.

My experience with DSH's Mimosa is close to that of Sherapop's but not exactly the same. To my nose, it smells of violets and indistinct florals. There is also a cloying sweetness and the aspertame note I find in violet fragrances. The dry down smells a bit like Bonne Belle Skin Musk. Not my cup of tea, but if you like violets and sweet, demure florals with clean musky dry downs then you may enjoy this.

The opening is lovely, fresh floral all the way. Linden flower and mimosa in the same fragrance; how did I get so lucky? It starts out strong with linden then a minute or so in the mimosa joins up. Softly sweet, it feels unique and I feel high, thinking I have found the perfect summer floral fragrance. Now if it could just hold those notes longer than 30 minutes, I would buy a full bottle. At that point it becomes an increasingly sweet powder, almost gourmand even and this I cannot abide. It's not unpleasant and in fact would be quite warm and comforting in cooler weather. But I already have my autumn/winter comfort mimosa in Lancome's Poeme, which is not so sweet as this. Ultimately it is a pretty powdered sweet floral, too sweet for me.
