To me, the vanilla here is definitely not your typical sweet, dessert-like gourmand vanilla. I find it more refined, with a strong woody backbone and this unexpected freshness from the lavender. Honestly, I didn’t think it would work at first, but it really does. I also notice the juniper berries quite clearly, giving it a slightly bitter but still elegant edge. If I had to compare it, I believe it sits somewhere among Boss Bottled Intense (discontinued), The Most Wanted Parfum by Azzaro or Marrakech Intense Aesop. It feels like a gentleman’s scent with a commanding presence — the kind of fragrance that makes you stand out and be taken seriously. Definitely something I’d call a “boss” fragrance. I personally see it as ideal for romantic dates, formal meetings, and especially in cold weather. I’d even recommend it as a really good entry point into niche perfumery — it’s not overly challenging, just attractive and well put together. Everyone without a trained nose is going to spray this and gasp, thinking Ellis Brooklyn just invented the concept of a spicy vanilla. They didn’t. It is a completely homogeneous scent where no singular note can be dictated. It lacks any genuine scent memory of true vanilla. It is vaguely sweet, vaguely spicy, and fundamentally smells like a cheap, $30 Middle Eastern clone. There is absolutely zero structural definition. The true financial fraud is the genesis of Ellis Brooklyn’s Vanilla Man. Consumers are dropping $120 on Vanilla Man, operating under the assumption that they are acquiring a virgin, completely separate DNA. They are not. The exact same contracted mercenaries who engineered Parfums de Marly’s Althaïr were hired by Ellis Brooklyn to formulate Vanilla Man. If it smells half as good (or as good...or kinda like) Andy Tauer's wonderful *Vanilla Absolue* at half the price ($120 vs $260) it'll be a terrific fragrance and a terrific bargain. I sampled, liked and bought *Vanilla Absolue* and I'm very happy with it. I'll be happy to sample this one, too. The more (vanillas) the merrier. PS: I never (never ever) wear a vanilla perfume solo...I layer my vanillas 100% of the time. I know....crazy, right?
