Arrogant

Another solid offering from English Laundry ! I’m really loving every scent I’ve tried from this house(with the exception of London which was a poor attempt at an Aventus clone) This opens a little synthetic but still nice as you get some light citrus and cedar wood which is fairly soapy. Once this dries down though you get a very pleasant blend of lavender,sandalwood and there’s amber in the base adding some creaminess to round the scent out. Arrogant is not a very good name for this scent asthis is a very subtle,pleasant fresh out of the shower scent that also smells like clean laundry or like another reviewer stated(a bar of Dove Soap) Also,to adddress the elephant in the room I do have to say this is VERY similar to English Laundry Signature and in fact I’d say it’s 90% similar. The differences being that Signature is a little more rich,slightly more elegant and serious and goes more in a soapy,barbershop direction whereas Arrogant is a more casual,lighthearted scent that has a fresh out of the shower,laundry sheet feel. Both are amazing scents but I do easily prefer Signature. Performance is also better with Signature. Speaking of performance this does last 6-8 hours but has soft to moderate projection. Which makes this perfect for work or when you want to smell good but not be too bold. Overall rating— 7.5 out of 10 ! Great scent with decent performance but because I already own Signature and like that scent better this does lose points for that. Sidenote- I’ve received positive feedback from both scents so you can’t go wrong with either arrogant or Signature!!!

This fragrance is a mystery for me. What I mean by this is, its the only fragrance iv tried that gets a second wind, its almost as if it revives and its like you freshly sprayed it on. Truly a clean almost fancy soap like fragrance thats such a hidden gem, but extremely pleasant and unique. Performance: Projection- I get an incredible yet also subtle beast mode from this fragrance. It definitely projects, yet its such a smooth smell that its like a classy beast. Rating 10/10 Longevity- This fragrance is an odd one, it feels like its disappearing, then all of sudden it revives and its almost as if you reapplied. It lasts on me 12hrs which is the longest iv ever had a fragrance on me. Rating 10/10 Versatility- This fragrance is pure class, I feel it is most suited for formal occasions or for office settings. It can be used as casual, but maybe a slightly dressier casual. This fragrance easily can be a signature scent and can be worn year round. Best seasons for this would be Spring, Summer and Fall. Rating 10/10 Uniqueness- This fragrance is somewhat unique, for some reason it reminds me of another fragrance, but I can specify as to which. Its a very laundry detergent and soapy like fragrance. Rating 8/10 Overall Rating: This fragrance is a hidden gem, if you can find it discounted even better. Highly recommend especially for someone trying to find a signature scent. Rating 10/10

Underrated fragrance line... English Laundry’s, Arrogant, is a beautiful composition of notes where the end result is a masculine scent that leaves the user feeling clean and fresh. I have five English Laundry fragrances in my collection and it is beyond me why there is not more positive attention and accolades given to this line. Out of the bottle, I get the lavender notes followed by the cedar and sandalwood finish, and agree with other reviewers there is a shared DNA between Arrogant and Le Male. Arrogant is safe, office friendly, and while geared for more formal or business type engagements, it is wearable to most events across any season. Performance is decent – Arrogant lasted greater than 7 hours on me, even longer on clothing, at arm’s length distance for the first 4 hours and at skin level thereafter. As with the other fragrances in this line, the presentation of Arrogant is first class – English Laundry is at the top of designer fragrances for presentation. All said, my final tally for Arrogant is 4.2 stars out of 5 stars. If the projection/sillage were greater, Arrogant has Top 10 potential. This fragrance smells great and is a “best kept secret” that exudes confidence and gentlemanly aura. Further, Arrogant will be a welcomed addition to any collection and comes with a solid “Love” for the fragrantica following. Enjoy your day and happy fragrance hunting.

This fragrance punches well above its weight. Disregard the price and the expectations and perception that sets. This is better than a lot, if not most, similar genre offerings from expensive houses. I love "barbershop" fougeres or fougere-like fragrances, or even fragrances that have Fougere elements. Lavender is a big player in typical classic Fougere structure, and lavender is a big player here. The accord stack listed here in Fragrantica is accurate: lavender is 3rd most dominant accord, after woody and Aromatic. It seems there is more Aromatic influence than just coriander. Smelling off the Atomizer it seems floral, but none are listed beyind herbal lavender, or herbal/spicy. The fragrance is clean and soapy. The bottle, box and overall presentation punches far above its weight too. It's in my "barbershop" Fougere collection. The longevity is far better than it gets credit for. I get whiffs hours after application. Comparisons are made to Le Male, but I simply do not see the comparison other than lavender and vanilla facets of the amber in Arrogant.

I love this scent so much. I am a big fan of lavender and I prefer this to YSL's lavender scents. This one is just so soft. Extremely soft and light smell to me. I mostly smell the lavender and sandalwood. But yes, I would rank this one as my best cologne for the price. My other favorite cologne is The Harmonist - Yin Transformation. Another extremely soft unisex scent. I am seeing people complain about the longetivity and the sillage etc and I believe the cologne is counterfeited often because I ordered an English Laundry sampler from Nordstrom Rack and I'm 100% sure it is fake. They were all terrible. This bottle I have of this cologne however was made in France and it is just terrific and I love it! I need to buy the sampler again and from a different company, perhaps.

Love It, and yes it does smell almost exactly like english laundrys signature in the opening and mid. The dry down,though,is where it is different but amazing.Just so you know I own and adore signature and these too do smell alike but here is where there different.Signature is more masculant while arrogant is more sweet and seductive in the dry down and just as it's self.overall,I love arrogant as it smells like signature but is like a slightly sweeter version. If you think signature was too strong try this one as it is more of a gentle approach of signature and is literally just missing a few of signatures notes. Overall, I love it. Projection is decent Longetivity is decent In terms of the scent,90/100 Arrogant as a whole, 83/100

I've had my eye on this one for some time. I went into my local drugstore (Shoppers Drug Mart, in Canada). Last week they had it listed for $80 which was entirely way overpriced (as could be expected from a major chain). Today it was down for $20 and that totally made my day. This, to my nose (and especially for that price) is absolutely gorgeous! Incredibly fresh & I'm (as the kids would say) "a mark" for a good Lavender & this is precisely that. Fresh citrus mixed with Lavender & some ok (but synthetic) woods in the base. So happy I found this as it's going right into my Spring & Summer errands rotation.

After a few wearings I’m pleased to say that so much of EL’s Arrogant reminds me of vintage Moschino Uomo. I’d say that Arrogant is almost equal parts Le Male and Moschino Uomo, or rather, on some occasions I get a lot of one or the other. Others have said that Arrogant recalls Prada Luna Rossa easily, and I can see this as well. And so it is from all these evocative moments that I derive such pleasure wearing Arrogant. It’s an inexpensive beauty I look forward to enjoying daily. My next foray into EL will be with Signature, which is allegedly an EDP version of Arrogant.

This fragrance has a very clean scent to it which I really liked when I purchased it. So many of the fragrances were just over the top when I was checking them all out at the mall, but this one really stood out from the rest because it was so clean and simple. I have received more compliments on this cologne than probably any other cologne I've ever owned. I would definitely recommend it. By the way, this one really smells quite different on different people, so definitely try it out and walk around the store for a while to see how it responds to you before you buy it.

absolutely lovely. gentle and loving, but not weak. it smells like kind & patient love, to me. smelling it feels like a long-awaited hug from someone who cares about you and proves it to you. it's pretty unisex but leans slightly on the masculine side. it's a happy, but not bright scent. I'd spray it on the inside of a jacket to feel loved. it's unique and good for a signature scent for a gentle, calmer version of a 'golden retriever boyfriend'. if you are that kind of man, or want to smell that kind of man, you should go for this fragrance.

Arrogant is a very good scent! It smells like a man! I would put it in the category of style... and I repeat... STYLE... of a Terre D'Hermes or Armani Eau d'Aromes kind of cologne wearer. It has a downright manly vibe to it. A soapy unsweetened cedary dry type version of Eau d'Aromes (minus the citrusy vibe). Classy and manly. Projects well and long lasting... when I spray myself, even after 9 hours, I can still smell it on me. I really enjoy this one and have gotten compliments from people, co-workers, men AND women. Two thumbs up from me!

THIS is my summer scent. Perfect for hot Texas summers. Smells soapy, just short of barbershop but points toward the direction of it. Really clean office scent and just pleasing. I haven't really got any compliments wearing it and I am an attention whore when it comes to my scents but this is one that just really fits my persona well so I love it! Safe blind buy for around $35 no more than $40. I bought English Laundry Signature on the cheap to replicate this but for me it just doesn't scratch the itch.

This is a terrific fragrance. It has a barbershop vibe while still setting itself apart from the pack. I see how people can compare this to le male, but this blows le male away. This is much more wearable, mature, and reserved compared to le male. I find this to be closer to Original Santal by Creed. I really love this fragrance, and I think anyone who likes to smell gentlemanly and sophisticated would definitely enjoy this. Great fragrance!

Very similar to EL Signature but with a little more pronounced cedar and a little better performance. I've tried them all except for the two newest ones, and Arrogant, Signature, and Notting Hill are the best from the house and the only ones worth checking out IMO. I slightly prefer the scent of signature over arrogant. I wouldn't pay more than 20 for any of them. I see them at the rack stores for 15 bucks. Scent 9/10 Performance 2/10

A lady gave me a tester at the mall and I could not stop smelling it...I find it very sexy, but not arrogant. (Arrogance as a character trait is a turn off anyways). I had never heard of this line before. I sprayed some on my wrist in Macys and then I walked around the mall. It stayed as strong on my wrist every second I sprayed it. I think it is a very clean, fresh, unique blend. I absolutely love it. It doesn't smell like the eight thousand other scents that were sitting right next to it. Unique

Fresh smelling. Smells like clean clothes. It's on the powdery side - more than likely related to the lavender. Walking on the beach barefoot with a white shirt on (rolled up sleeves) and linen pants. Of course, with that special someone by your side...with the fragrance whispering for you to go for it!

What a great fragrance, this is like a more grown up more matured Le Male. I get pretty good longevity but sillage stays pretty close to the skin which I'm ok with that. If you like Le Male and are getting older this is the scent for you. 8 out of 10 happy smelling!

I love it. My 17 year old daughter hates the smell when I wear it. Must be an older generation scent. Longevity and Sillage is huge. I’m a fan of the English Laundry colognes. EL Arrogant and EL Signature smell the exact same. My amateur nose, knows no difference.

I'm a cheapie nut, quality and price is a big deal for me. This scent checks both boxes. The lavender is classy, I do think it's equal parts Moschino Uomo and PG Le Male. But I dont feel this is as dated, very classy nice for a collar shirt casual.

I've been wearing less "masculine" scents lately. This one is a big winner. It's not super expensive but smells absolutely amazing. The lavender and sandalwood are pretty strong to my nose but it's just amazing. Love love love this one.

Really, really nice smelling fragrance. Definite crowd-pleaser and compliment-getter. A perfect blend of Gaultier Le Male, Armani Code, and Versace Pour Homme. Not a projection beast, but good stuff. 8.6/10.

Very nice smell and lasts good 6 - 8 hours. I love wearing it. The packaging also is very upscale with blue velvet inside box and looks like a designer fragrance. I would recommend.

Wow I recently smelled Arrogant again and was blown away... Why don't more men smell like this?????

Bought this in a set (with shower gel and after shave balm) with a couple of hand-sewn English Laundry shirts by Christopher Wicks. Good quality all the way around. Notes of bergamot, cedarwood, lavender, coriander, and a warm base of musk, amber and sandalwood blend together nicely. It opens with a rather nice crisp citrus aroma followed by the coriander and a nice floral lavender note. Nothing terribly original - but it shows well. The cedar in the heart makes this a very well-blended scent...with amber and sandalwood as listed notes in the base. I also get a nice musk that allows the scent to keep a nice freshness. It is never out of balance or too strong. Overall, 'good'. I enjoy wearing it on days when I am in upscale, casual attire. It works with T-shirts and jeans - but designer brand and confidence are mandatory. One could also wear this to work, as an office scent, most definitetly. Average (5-6+ hours) of longevity with a liberal application...it is not offensive and it does stay as a nice skin scent. My score is 7.5/10. Solid and sound. Is it truly, "Arrogant"? No, but a nice Woody Aromatic that is well-composed and harmonious, but nothing ground-breaking. Good for days (but could work on warm Spring/Summer evenings too), when I am unsure of what to wear, because it fits almost all situatons. A grab 'n go scent that is not offensive. Although it is not challenging and a "safe scent", it will get you compliments...!

The cap smelled so good I had to buy it. It smells great. It smells like a combination of Sergio Tacchini for men (1987), and Boucheron Pour Homme. I love both of those, so this was a perfect combination for me. It has the freshness of Sergio, and the lovely citrus/soapy/woody vibe from Boucheron. One of the women at the office smelled the top of my hand, and loved it. I always know when they really like a perfume, because their shoulders sink slightly, and they have that "oh...wow..." look on their face. Sillage seems to be quite good, and longevity is great as well. Applied it 4,5 hours ago on the top of my hand, and still going strong. Keep in mind that I've washed my hands a few times as well, and it still feels just as strong as when I applied. I probably wouldn't do more than 2 sprays. This smells excellent. Perfect any season, hot or cold, day or night. It's fairly cheap, and again I'm amazed at how little money you actually have to spend to smell awesome.

I'm a fan of the English Laundry clothing line and came across a set of four with this fragrance included. I'd already heard about Tahitian Waters, Oxford Bleu, and Notting Hill being some of the higher ranked fragrances from this designer house. It starts off with a blast of fresh, soapy citrus. Looking at the notes, I didn't expect it to be so soapy, but maybe sweeter with that sandalwood in the mix. It starts to dry down pretty quickly, unfortunately, and the dry down is very reminiscent of Le Male by Jean Paul Gaultier. The performance on my skin wasn't all that great lasting about 4 hours and projecting for about 45 minutes. Just short of an hour. If this were an EDP, I bet the performance and projection would be even better! It was a bit too soapy for me and the performance was a bit lackluster. I enjoy the scent though, but I will use a carrier oil on my skin and spray some clothing to get the most out of it. 6/10 for me! Cheers!

I have the big bottles that come in the nice cases and I have the smaller bottles that come in the set. For some reason the ones in the smaller bottles are weaker. I tested arrogant out on each arm and the big bottle lasted almost 7 hours, while the small bottle went to a skin scent within a hour. The same happened with signature and riviera. So I'll recommend everyone to only get the ones that come in the cases. Same goes with the bottles that have no cases you find in rack stores. They seemed watered down. Anyways I love the entire line so far. I'm still looking for cambridge knight and excited to try because it's tltg fav and we usually love the same scents. My favs are riviera,oxford blu and signature.. I'm new to the fragrance world(3 months collecting and already have about 25 frags) so I can't really go into detail of notes I smell lol but I'm learning.

Smells very similar to their Signature. That means this one smells great as well. I think this one might be better then signature because its slightly toned back with the lavender. I think for the price and quality its a good fragrence. Yes the performance and longevity are not nuclear. People are really over invested in performance, they want every cologne they own to last 24 hours or more. There are certain situations you don't want a choke out perfume. This one is perfect for that. Out of a shower, for the gym, staying in for the day, going to the store real quick, and most importantly an interview. I sprayed it right before so i smelled good, but its weak enough i don't choke them out.

This is the first EL fragrance that I can recommend without a you-could-do-worse disclaimer. Arrogant is easily my favorite of the four EL fragrances that come in the ubiquitous sampler set. Its smooth cedar/sandalwood combination has been done many times before. The interpretation here is common and approachable, and - if you can find it at half its retail list price or less - a decent value for the money. I have not smelled Signature so I can't say whether it's essentially a stronger version of this fragance. What I can tell you is that the horribly-named Arrogant is anything but. He's a shy pal that you get to know and appreciate hanging out with.

This was better than I expected, and very familiar (L'Occitane's L'Occitane for Men, John Varvatos Artisan). Strong blast of bergamot leaves behind lavender and a very cedary/slightly sandalwoody wood with a little amber. I never get fragrance compliments, but Arrogant received one from a coworker (who never gives compliments, and is a little arrogant herself.) The name does not fit the fragrance at all. Why didn't English Laundry continue with their typical naming convention and name this Essex or Kent or something?

Do you love Le Male? Are you in your late thirties and want to smell like you're club bound, but in fact you're headed to your three year old daughter's friends birthday party? Well say no more! Arrogant is that scent you've been looking for! I really like it, and it's a fully functional clean scent for the weekend or the office. Its spicy and soapy and a crowd pleaser. This scent is to be enjoyed while running errands, chilling with the fam or swinging at a pinata at a child's party.

Very pleasant scent that smells like fresh laundry which I assume is due to the lavender. It's cheap, and lasts so long. I spray this only my bed sheets at night and it just lulls me to sleep. Can be smelled on fabric DAYS later, and is just the freshest laundry detergent smell on earth. This was one of my first real frags and holds a special place in my heart even tho I don't actually wear it often, it is a great performer and just a clean comforting fragrance

It's a nice Freshly - Laundered Lavender Scent ! Clean, Crisp and Elegant. It smells so good and very pleasant with reasonable price. It opens up with like Creamy fresh spicy and lavender note in the background then dry down is semi sweet ambery woody. This is perfect for the spring , summer and fall, I really enjoy it and I'm so happy that I have it in my collection. Longevity is average. Rating : 7.5 / 10

This comes through with an overpowering baby powder scent. Won't ever wear it but it'll make a decent bathroom air freshener. EDIT Now that the weather has cooled down, I've revisited this fragrance and actually like it. This doesn't work at all as a summer fragrance for me but it's perfect for the fall and definitely office safe. Will I buy it again? Possibly.

I wear this on Thursdays. It tells people that I am ready for the weekend but I am holding back a little for something spectacular. Soapy, sandlewood smell that you will have to wash off due to the longevity that lasts what feels like a week.

This is bright, creamy and slightly powdery. This is a nice elegant day time fragrance. It's not a projection monster but it does go within arms length. This would be good for close encounters with females. I give this a 8.7/10

This literally smells like a bar of Dove soap

Allow me to put my nose up in the air and give this one a shot. I was looking for something soft and gentle for an afternoon looking out the window while tapping away at the keyboard and figured I'd pick the one with the most mismatched name: Arrogant. The bergamot is immediate in the open, but isn't too sharp, followed by lavender, a slightly spicy cedar middle, and a soothing balsamic creamy sandalwood finish where the lavender comes back into play. I'm not sure how long this will last on my skin because it gives the impression of it being quiet, but lavender and sandalwood tend to stick around on me for a while, so it might be one that I gravitate towards for early evenings to aid in drifting off to sleepy time. This is one to spray on your lounge on the couch clothes. If this fragrance were a feeling it'd be snuggles from your shy pet, calm and wanting closeness for reassurance. This is pretty light; don't expect a huge performance.

English Laundry comes in a four pack at TJ Maxx so I always had the impression it was just some cheap knockoff. My mom gifted me the set for Christmas. I'm powering through them. This one is very pleasant. Clean scent. Not gaga over it.

Arrogant: gone in a flash. Like if you ordered dinner and it arrives at your table and half of it disappears before you can eat it. For an inexpensive scent with lavender and woods I highly recommend ck eternity for men ( whether you’re a man or not). Or for clean citrus and woods go for Azzaro chrome sport. Or, another delicious choice that shares citrus cedar and amber with Arrogant would be Versace man eau fraiche. All of these can be found for a price that’s easy to bear—no need to excuse a magically disappearing cologne just because it’s cheap.

Blind bought this, nothing original, opening is a total copy of Moschino Uomo? which Im not crazy about - basic dated barber shop lemon pie, dry down is a cheap watered down version Le Male that feels less appealing and more synthetically clawing, blind buying this is not recommended, if youre not crazy about parfums I have mentioned avoid this like a plague. overall score in 2020 is 5/10.

Creamy. Smells like lotion.. hand & body cream to be exact w/ a lil soap. All lavender & nothing else. Closer resemblance to OG Luna Rossa, but mixed with a very watered down JPG

I don't know if my sample was bad, but to me it smelled of polyester resin that is used to make fiberglass boat's etc. Even after a few hours, it did not improve.... Yuck

ZZZ...it IS Signature. No wonder it's familiar...and vastly weaker..pass on this ego-trip. How can he get away plagiarizing himself?

#162 in my "Tour de Fragrance". I should say at the start that this may have been some sort of bad batch, but then again it may not have been. First off, the opening of this smelled like a mix of Mrs. Meyers Lavender Laundry Detergent and rubbing alcohol. Not awful, but not something I'd not run across in any cologne before. And it had an oily component that stuck to my skin that was also a new experience for me. On the way to pick up my morning latte I realized the skin where I had sprayed this was very irritated, and by the time I arrived I had to go to the men's room and scrub this off with soap and water, which thankfully did the trick. So far, I don't feel the need to apply cortisone cream. So, either I am very allergic to some component of this cologne or there's something in this bottle that shouldn't be there. Whatever the case, I won't try it again, and rather than risk someone else having the same reaction, I have thrown the bottle away.

Signature and Arrogant are incredibly similar. If you want to know the differences I picked up on, read on. Signature: Opens heavy on lemon, lavender, and cedar, with some indiscernible notes floating in the background. Faint spiciness of the top. If you overspray as I do, you can pick up on the Vetiver throughout the drydown. The Vetiver is slightly harsh. By the 25 minute mark, it’s taken on a faint greenness, and the creamy sandalwood is starting to reveal itself. Eventually around the 1 hour mark the sandalwood takes over and the fragrance settles into its creamy pleasant embrace. This projects quite well, for at least another 3-4 hours. I think it’s so subtle most people grow nose blind to it. I pick up faint whispers in the air at the gym or work way past when I’d expect to. Arrogant: Also opens lavender lemon. So far no different from signature. At 25 minutes, the sandalwood is showing through nicely. The scent has taken on a smooth clean creaminess compared to Signature which is comparatively speaking greener and almost bitter or sour for lack of a better term. Still some lemon coming through, lavender is still going strong. After 1 hour the sandalwood takes the wheel. It’s smoother, softer, cleaner, and faintly sweet when compared to Signature. It also projects better than Signature. Arrogant takes the win in my opinion. They are both very simple fragrances, but Signature has all these unnecessary notes that don’t add any complexity because they are so unnoticeable. All they do is muddy up the fragrance and confuse you. Arrogant has that after the shower luxury soap feel to it which quickly melts away into a clean comforting sandalwood. It strips away all the unnecessary additive notes that taint the original Signature.

Few things to say right off the bat: 1) This fragrance IS THE SAME SCENT AS SIGNATURE, just EDT vs. EDP. 2) There is no possible way anyone who actually owns this and uses it can suggest that its performance is terrible, regardless of skin type. I believe English Laundry will discontinue Arrogant soon, replaced by Signature, the upgraded EDP. Both smell the same, but the EDP does have a bit more depth and lasting power overall. Projection similar. Untrained noses sense JP Le Male. It's likely due to the fresh clean powdery scent, but the fragrances are completely different. JP Le Male smells synthetic, cheap, transparent and can get cloying fast. It starts with the mint, has that powdery lavender middle and dries down to vanilla powder. EL Signature/Arrogant is very linear and heavy on fresh lemon up top (no mint) that transitions to light woods, fresh washed laundry accord and oak moss, with a backbone of classic barbershop cologne. It smells rich and expensive, projects for hours and lasts at least 12-18 hours. Arrogant/Signature is the solution for those that love Gendarme's performance and cleanliness but think it is too floral and feminine.

My first EL frag, a blind buy and I'm unimpressed. Sure, it's soapy & clean...and indeed a nice lavender is pervasive, it delivers on the promise. The dry down is better than the opening and kind of reminds me of a freshly washed baby in Johnson's Baby Wash. However having said that, I find it entirely uninspiring, uncompelling or even interesting. For example in this same frag category & price, for me, I will sooner reach for issey miyake l'eau bleue d'issey por homme eau fraiche, every single time over EL Arrogant. I got it super cheap so I can't complain - but I will not buy again, and will probably use to spray unscented laundry sheets/bounce before use to get a nice smell on the laundry.
