XXX Cyprium

Predominantly a dry cedar scent, and a damn good one, (if cedar is your thing), with emphasis on incense and benzoin, supported by a tiny bit of a minerals, and a whisper of violet leaf. I also get a hint of smoked ebony wood, which I can only guess is marketed in the notes as Lava.. Cyprium smells niche to the core, but might not be everyone's cup of tea. Fragrances that provide the same atmosphere, (but smell nowhere near the same) are CdG 2man, Wonderwood, Encre Noire L'Extreme, Ashes by Franck Boclet. Overall, an avant garde take on woods and smoky elements that comes across as classy, mysterious, and artistic, resulting in a wonderful take on cedar.

Alright since i managed to only get hold of the tester but it smells so unique and stands out a lot from the other niche and designer perfumes. It smells like burnt incense infused with wood on when it settles and smells spicy woody upon the first few minutes. Not so overpowering and harsh however it does set the mood best for late evening dinner dates which i feel will set the tone and give a more warm and settling experience to both parties. Definitely hope to get hold of this soon though

XXX Cyprium is a woody and green fragrance. Its opening has a bit of a strange smell, it's woody, a bit acidic and sulphurous, like the smell of a rusty piece of metal, a bit dirty also similar to oud. At this stage, the aroma reminded me a bit of Comme des Garcons 2 Man, but without the smoky touch. According to what I read, the perfumer wanted to recreate an accord with a copper smell, and perhaps that is what they are trying to imitate in this fragrance. Over time the fragrance becomes greener, more aromatic and powdery, and at the same time less wild. The fragrance seems good to me for intermediate seasons, without much heat or cold, that is, spring and autumn. It seems to me that it can be used in both formal and informal situations, but not in romantic situations. In duration it had an average of 8 hrs. with me, with a sillage of regular to low. I consider that its aroma is unusual, it does not go in the trend of blue fragrances, nor sweet, nor fruity. It's rather a bit conceptual, I liked it, but not to buy a bottle. The shape of the bottle also seems original to me, as if the container had melted in a corner.

Forget about the lava marketing thing, this is a classic woody/spicy fragrance. It start very dry cedar-y, and will shortly after veers a bit spicier, creamy woods and rounder. I wouldn't be surprised if it is called out as a clone of Tam Dao, at some point. Nice, even if nothing new here and performance is quite modest. At full retail it's a no-go, but should it fall into the bargain bin at some point, it might be a good option for a woody fragrance.

I got a sample at the mall. I’m not sure how lava smells like 😂 and since it’s a synthetic accord I can just affirm that it smells “warm”, maybe it’s because the cedarwood but when you smell it you can definitely feel something warm passing through your nose. I can also feel a little bit of violet but I can also smell other spicy note (like cinnamon or pepper) but could be just my imagination.

...Lava? Smells like a cedar stump soaked in violet water, woody with a weird dewy airiness that has a sort of metallic tinge to it. Fairly linear drydown. Moderately soft projection for 2hr at best, but I can catch faint whiffs of it for a couple hours longer. Longevity 8-10hr.

Unusual scent, albeit quality stuff. Dry and earthy...like scorched clay. This is a skin scent, do not expect much.

It's just a really weird smelling wood, my nose can't quite parse what exact wood it is but it's not simply just cedar. I don't know who they're trying to fool with "lava" haha. Not something I would personally wear, but it does smell kind of unique which is nice.

Lo compré por U$40. Un asco. Me dieron ganas de vomitar. Quizás mi nariz no es tan sofisticada como para entenderla o apreciarla, pero nunca me había pasado algo así. Por lo general las fragrancias suelen ser aceptables. Hay algunas que gustan más, otras que gustan menos, otras que solamente usarías en ciertas ocasiones, etcétera. Esta fragrancia no la usaría NUNCA EN MI VIDA. Es espantosa. Me tuvo toda la mañana y la tarde sofocando. ESTA REVIEW VALE TANTO PARA VERDIGRIS COMO PARA CYPRIUM.

Warm, dry, sweet spicy woods which envelop you. There's a log fire steadily in the fireplace with its quiet, comforting crackling and warmth. The faintest waft of potpourri from somewhere, but not in your face, just a hint from a distant corner of the cabin. As the embers fade, the sweet spiciness also turn to a dusty ash. All 3 in the XXX range are fantastic, niche quality scents in a designer line with unique concept and quality execution.

Without knowing what notes Cyprium has, what i initially got (and still do on consequent tests) was cypress and a very convincing one. Perhaps i’ve been wrongly influenced by the name, because cyprium actually means copper in Latin, but i get all the telltale signs of a strong cypress accord. The fragrance opens up woody, herbal, dry and hot spicy but also bitter. Once i checked Fragrantica, i was shocked to not see Cypress in the notes. I saw Lava mentioned and thats silly marketing. There is a bit of perfume magic here because I believe this “lava” note is actually composed of cypress and pimento. There is a piquant, chilly like facet here, hency why my intuition tells me there is a hidden note of pimento. It grants a nose-tingling sensation that you get from spices when smelt upclose. I also see violet and to be fair, along with the herbal notes and a dry cedar, they are part of the illusion. To my nose, when the note of Violet is accentuated, it gives off a spicy, tobacco/tea-like grainy, coarse sensation that can also replicate the nouances of Cypress. In the drydown phase, the composition softens even more and i get a floral-woody impression. I feel like this is the stage where the violet finally takes off the mask and trully reveals the fact that it played a role all along. Ermenegildo Zegna’s Cyprium played a magic trick on my nose. In an amusing way, all of this reminds me of the monster reveals in the Scooby Doo cartoons where the villain was actually a human being wearing a costume. Only here its not a spectacular reveal, but a gradual one without loud reactions.

Dry earthy woods enveloped by a warm and smokey incense, faintly sweet. Absolutely love this one - normally I don't like incensey fragrances but this one is very wearable and smooth. A bit pricey and hard to find it for a good discount but I splurged on a bottle after I finished my tiny sample and I don't regret it. Big thumbs up for this one
