Azuree Legacy

I can only offer a fairly ignorant opinion on this as, unfortunately, I have yet to smell the original. I've been exploring more and more (70s, 80s and 90s-era) Estee Lauder frags for the past few months, and they're so often very impressive. Azuree Legacy is no exception, though I'd have to smell the original before coming to a fully-formed opinion. Azuree Legacy smells just as the notes would have you expect, but the complexity of the notes makes this a hard thing to do by imagination alone. The opening is light and airy with a non-acidic bergamot and basil opening, but backed by spice with a good (but not excessive) dose of cumin to back it up. It makes me laugh, as Frederic Malle always said that, if he could have one frag in his collection which he never did, it would be Feminite du Bois - and the resemblance here in the spicy opening is hard to deny. Lying beneath this spicy, citrusy opening is a very gentle leather chypre base, with a detectable resinous note from the oakmoss. This gives me an image of a suede glove which is probably too good for wearing out, but is nevertheless being dragged around the woods in the countryside, gripping bunches of wild herbs and faintly scuffed with fresh forest floor. Supremely elegant and soft, sans any raunchy animalics, it gives a relaxed vernal impression. Price is probably a little too high for me, as it's definitely a shy frag with maybe 5 hours of longevity and modest projection on my skin.

I'm quite sure that IFF kept Bernard Chant's formula for Frederic Malle and Anne Flipo to refer to. Though many people will definitely be put off by the huge top note of cumin. But wait! Do you remember the magic Jean-Michel Duriez showed in the extinct wonder Seine Amoureuse (2017)? Indeed, Azuree Legacy is the true heir to his magical trick. The overt spice has a quality of grinding powder that makes a wonderful bridge between the dark-brown leather and the dry woody background. Considering the Mediterranean summer heat of the beach, the dry air around dry herbs, the sunscreen and warm skin... the addition of spice is quite a bit of decadent sensuality. The finish falls into a Mitsouko bottom base, deep and legitimate. Azuree Legacy is undoubtedly a bold piece of art, whose boldness might even belong to an artisanal perfume, but at the same time it has an elitist touch of finish and subtle details. One of the most nostalgic things about Azuree Legacy is that when you keep a subtle distance from it, the original Azuree becomes its double shadows. In my opinion, Azurée Legacy could be renamed as Azurée - Hot Evening.

I'm on my third day of trying the Legacy collection from the Discovery Coffret available from the EL website. I cannot stand and am crying over Legacy Knowing, I was surprised how much I liked Estee Legacy and now on day three I try Azuree Legacy which I am fully expecting to smell like cumin and BO, so not too hopeful. I've been wearing it since early this morning and have applied three times from the little sample and it's now been 12 hours. I cannot believe it but I am in love with this. It doesn't stay on me that long-I'd say I put more on every 4 hours, but tiny sprays from the sample. I just want to keep smelling it! I love it from the second I put it on and then through all stages of dry down until it is faded. No cumin for me though there is spice. I cook a lot so I'm very familiar with cumin and I'm not getting that. I am at a loss as to how to describe it other than fresh spicy-such a beautiful blend. I agree with 1guy1dog3cats. It's magical.

Azurée Legacy is probably the Legacy collection perfume most recognizable to its original version. But, as mentioned already below, it’s very similar to, and almost indistinguishable from, the non-Legacy Azurée that’s already available. If anything, this feels a bit airier, as though Azurée has been given room to breathe. A great perfume, but given its steep pricing, I’d stick to OG Azurée for now. ETA: So now I’m noticing that Azurée Legacy has become significantly spicier than the original version. It’s magical. I *might* just actually shell out the $$$ to get my hands on a bottle (typed as my credit card weeps)!

Very green herbal scent with ripe melony sweetness that in conjunction with moss makes this perfume unique. Sometimes it reminds me fresh cut artemisia, sometimes I feel fresh aldehydes. Absolute unisex, but this fragrance will give a man a more relaxed appearance, while for a woman, it will create a more businesslike and focused look."

Firstly, I would strongly recommend approaching all of the Legacy scents as their own standalone fragrances and not doing side-by-side comparisons with the originals--at least not at first. This scent its own thing. Comparisons, especially with a beloved classic that we are already attached to, usually end in heartbreak and, at the very least, don't allow these reimagined scents to tell their own stories or stand on their own merits. So, if you love the originals, put them out of your mind for a minute and test these scents as totally new experiences that pay homage to, but don't copy, your beloved vintages. Azuree Legacy opens with bold spices, dark leather, and oakmoss. It hits hard at first, but it quickly mellows into a classy and unique composition that wears like a lightish, finely tuned, spiced chypre. My skin brings out a wonderful basil mid note and downplays the cumin. The scent cloud is not nearly as dense and heavy as I expected it to be, making this version of Azuree quite versatile. I would recommend letting it settle on the skin for a while if the spices are a little too bold for you initially; this fragrance evolves and rewards those with some patience.

Oh no! America and cumin, name a more divisive couple. I hear you that the florals are gone but I DO smell like a sexy salad that just got roughed up on the squash court.

I feel like a broken record, but Legacy Azurée doesn't hold up even to the formulation that's currently available in the terrible bottles with the square tops that don't fit correctly, which is the one I own and which is, at least for the time being, still available in stores. Legacy Azurée is recognizably Azurée, but it has a very pronounced cumin note that bums me out. As with the Legacy White Linen, the Malle team made Azurée dirtier, which I suppose makes it smell less old-fashioned or perhaps more edgy to contemporary noses, but as far as I'm concerned, Malle et al. just stripped out the sunshine and blossoms and made it more unisex--not as unisex as a classic '50s chypre, maybe, but certainly less feminine than the most recent version of Azurée. Once it dries down, Legacy Azurée bears a closer resemblance to the previous Azurée (supposedly a pale imitation of the original version, but I wouldn't know about that). Still, even several hours into the drydown, I get more cumin and perhaps a bit more leather than I can discern at any point in the previous version of Azurée. In fact, it just hit me that this Legazy Azurée smells more like Aramis than the version of Azurée that I own and greatly prefer. I will say that it seems to have equal to superior projection and longevity. But that's not necessarily a plus if you don't enjoy smelling like cumin.

Personally I don't find too much difference between this and the current formulation. In fact, the current formulation is much better. Get a bottle of that before they are gone. Price is certainly better. I have to say as an EL fan these new offerings are not going to make their fan base happy. Way too much cumin here, it turns to BO for me. This is a very masculine offering.

Oh my gosh. What a severe disappointment. And for the money?? All I can say is don't bother. If it was more reasonably priced I might say, try it. But if you do, don't even compare it to the original. They are nothing alike...at all. I'm seriously thinking of returning it. For the price, you want magic in a bottle, not just "ok"...

Wow, this is unique! Its spicy aroma is so interesting. I don’t have any perfume that smells like this. The combination of the spices is bold. It’s not for those who prefer delicate scents. I think this is unisex. While this is not my preferred scent profile, I think it’s well blended and many will like it.

Сumin is such a "magical" ingredient that when you add it, it often becomes unimportant what else is in the fragrance. Simply because you only smell cumin, over and over again. This is exactly the case. And I agree with one of the previous reviews: why the hell add this spice to Azurée??? It's not soup, really.

Why add cumin at all?? If it isn't broke, don't fix it I'll be sure to buy at least a 20 year supply of the other azuree in the rectangle bottles. I only have 12 years worth so far unfortunately

Too much cumin, smells like armpit BO. The original so much better.

The OG is a gorgeous chypre adorned by a bouquet of heady white florals. This new version tossed it away without a second thought and exchanged it for beige suede gloves and a handful of musty old spice. Gone are the bright rays of sunshine, birdsong and music, for God forbid should people protest its joyful disposition. So out with cheerfulness and colour and in with muted sepia along with a touch of melancholy. This iteration might share a few notes with the original at the end but entirely, it perhaps appeals to a whole other group of audience.

I enjoy smelling the drydown from the bottle but on skin it's a neverending huge Cumin, and I don't enjoy going around smelling like couscous salad...

I could smell cumin and other spices quite strongly. Perhaps that's why it reminded me a little of Serge Lutens' perfumes.

A very citrus classic Cologne type ala CK, Tommy Hilfiger and Rochas

Oh yes! Old school beautiful bomb. Love it.
