Today I tried this version just because I couldn't remember the original one at all. And for one moment the whole picture, colorful and vivid, just popped in my mind; 1981, she was in her early 50s, she was wearing a burgundy red skirt suit, a matched silk carré with flowers and leaves on it tied elegantly around her beautiful neck, some drops of Revlon Charlie behind her ears while her conservative low bun was fixed with Elnett hairspray. She took a look at her watch, grabbed her leather handbag in a rush and turned to me."Are you ready? The church won't be open all day for us!" And this is what the new Estee brought to my mind today; My most beloved aunt, strict and straight but also with a heart of butter, who loved elegance, savoir vivre, going to church every Sunday and me like I was her own child , and all these (flaws) perfectly wrapped in a perfumed veil of Charlie and Elnett. I miss you aunt! PS. I really love this fragrance but I'm not going to purchase a bottle. It makes me nostalgic and sad.

I have been exhausted with all of this sweet vanilla, marshmallow, fruity gourmands and stinky amber florals that are trending. As a passionate collector, I decided to go back in time and seek out vintage perfumes that are still in production. I found myself sampling many perfumes made in the 1980s,1970s and 1960s that included notes that were delightfully sparkling and chic- and this one really blended well with my body chemistry. The scent bubble this gives is clean and classy and soft. It’s not a heavy floral, not a stiff perfume- it’s more of a creamy sparkling almost aldehydic green perfume that delights the senses with a vibe of sophistication and good energy. It’s the antithesis of all of these sugary sweet perfumes and I’m obsessed!

This is my newest adquisition from EL, and I LOVE IT. It is so feminine and classy, floral but deep. Could easily make it as my signature scent, someday. The old formula I don ́t know, but I imagine it to be a tough one for a modern taste. EL must have made a really well transitionwith this one. Here, all that inital sharpness (chypre? aldehyde?) disappears rapidly and what stays FOR HOURS (at least 8hrs on my skin) is so interesting. `Vintage`, but in it ́s best way. This is the nicest and very wearable EL from these times. Alliage and Azuree are difficult for me. Youth Dew is a whole different story, and maybe my favourite one. Give it a chance. It is woth it.

The typical vintage lemon-aldehydes are very present here. I also get a soap bubble like rose. Not detecting creamy Ylang or any Jasmine at all. It’s not as faceted as what I can imagine the older formulation may have been. It is lovely though. Super fresh, clean and aldehydic! I really liked the opening a lot more than when it dried down as it has the promise of a lot more... I wish I tried the older version... but this is nice ! Edit: I wore the current formulation of Poeme by lancome and wore this version of Estee on top and MY GOD. STUNNING STUNNING STUFF!

What an underrated fragrance! For anyone who loves aldehydes and their fresh, sparkling, and brilliant cleanliness, this is the perfect fragrance. I don't know why aldehydes are not listed as they are at the top of the fragrance. Although this is a reformulation, it smells very much like the original. My mother wore this for most of my life and, 30 years later, it is finally time for me to wear it. I love this fragrance and will always treasure how it reminds me of my childhood and how it was my gateway in to perfumery.

Estee is magnificent, a classic aldehyde floral. It is like the description says, a sparkling champagne scent. Has a whiff of aldehyde. I would recommend it for anyone who loves Chanel No. 5 but wants something more appropriate for every day, working, running errands, hanging out. I have this reformulation and I like it very much. The original was hard for me to wear but this feels like a sparkling, clear champagne. It just feels crisp and professional. It does seem like it would match a crisply tailored white shirt with blue jeans.

Smells like Amouage Dia 40, for much less money and much more durability.

Whenever I smell Estee, images from an old movie called "The Party" (starring Peter Sellers and Claudine Longet) immediately pop into my mind. It could be because that movie and this perfume were both released in 1968. The story behind the creation of this perfume is that while at a party, Mrs. Estée Lauder noticed some light from two crystal chandeliers shimmering in a glass of champagne. She thought about how wonderful it would be to capture that image in a fragrance, and I believe she did accomplish what she hoped to do. This fragrance does seem to have a fizzy quality--kind of like opening a bottle of champagne. And I think has a late 1960s smell to it...but I can explain why I feel that way. It just does. It makes me think of young women wearing false eyelashes and short, stylish shift dresses...perhaps dressed up for a date or a party, and wearing this perfume. I have heard people rave about this fragrance and how good it USED to be. Many older women swear that this is a fragrance that they've worn for DECADES. Some claim that the formula has changed and that it isn't as good as it once was. I wouldn't know because I only recently discovered it. I do have vague memories of smelling it on other people throughout my life, but I didn't know what it was that I was smelling. So, the new formula must be very similar to the older one. I have read some reviews by women who say that they buy this fragrance for sentimental reasons. Their mothers wore it, and they want to be reminded of them. I do think this scent is interesting and beautiful. I didn't like it much when I first sprayed it on, but after it dried down it was quite nice. It also smelled good on my clothes, and it lasted much longer on them. After awhile, I can't smell it on myself anymore, but other people can smell it on me. I think that's why some people feel the need to reapply and then reapply again, and this is why many people have a tendency to overuse perfumes in general. We want to be able to smell it on ourselves...that is the reason for wanting to buy perfumes in the first place! This is a more mature, sophisticated scent. Teens will not like it. More mature women will appreciate it better than teens will. I think it's good for any time of day. It's not a favorite of mine, though. Maybe the original was better, and that's why many women have been so loyal to it for so long. I will defintely wear it sometimes, but I doubt I will ever repurchase it once I run out.

For what it's worth, it smells fine on a man. This bottling is surely discontinued. It has been reformulated and relaunched as a 250-300 USD fragrance. I now see this bottle for 25-50 euros. Today I stopped into an old fashioned Swiss pharmacy and sure enough they had a tester of this bottle of Estée. Still priced at CHF 120 or so. Anyway. It goes on like a classic aldehydic feminine floral. Then it settled within minutes to reveal character that both I and the female salesclerk remarked was fine on me, very pleasant. Yellow, floral, orris, biscuity. I smell vanilla but perhaps it's the remains of honey, listed in yet older formulations, or carnation and styrax, which can also be sweetish. I just ordered a 25 dollar bottle becaue I'll never dump 300 on this, great reviews on the new one aside, from the likes of Luca Turin, no less. Update - Got my 25 USD 50ml bottle. It joins my collection of aldehydes. This one has a mid-vibration “white” note that reminds me of White Linen by Estée Lauder, but with a sweeter twist. It’s softer than many classic white florals. I think of the white, spiced variety of the Necco wafer. This fragrance has a sandy sweetness with a hint of carnation’s sugar-spice. The orris isn't rooty rather refined to provide a gentle powderiness. The fragrance carries nostalgic warmth without veering into oriental territory or being weighed down by intrusive base notes. The aldehydes keep it afloat for hours. A true bargain—less than 10% of the cost of the new formulation in the luxury relaunch.

I recently finished my last pineapple bottle of Estee. It was time to accept the inevitable and buy the new one, I missed wearing it. First impression is denser composition, but still perfectly recognizable, still Estee. It's sweeter, more honey and carnation, clove even. Less heavy on aldehydes and I regret that, the lightness that comes from abundance of aldehydes, although it could be so much worse. What's infuriating, those notes are not even listed in the new description or that pyramid above, how can someone disregard most important notes? There was quite a bit of lily too. If you take the pyramid above as a guide, you end up with perfume that has nothing to do with reality. I'm afraid that will often become true since oldies are practically impossible to try in physical shops, they don't even sell them anymore. If you're looking for vintage perfumes of new production, you can't depend upon description of people who are producing it, they lie! It probably has something to do with marketing strategy and pure bullshit! Sofar, I'm happy with the new bottle, looks good and perfume is heavier and sweeter, but still Estee. Mars '26... Yes, it's heavier and less mossy. Longevity is good, but not as good as it was, old Estee stayed with me up to 24 h, no joke. It was glorious in summer! I'm just glad to have it and not botoxed to oblivion and resembling an extraterrestrial. Interesting, how overuse of botox and fillers makes people resemble each other...

I have no idea what the original smelled like, but this current incarnation sure is wonderful! Dry, smart and sophisticated. Performs much better on skin than on cloth. I have those days when I can't chose a perfume, but if I can narrow it down to just two and they don't mesh well for layering, I'll spray one on my person and the other on a hankie, the fumes of which are then ready to be inhaled when taken out of pocket or purse. Estee undergoes some peculiar phenomenon if left on the hankie for long hours in that it will begin to smell sour or fermented. That won't stop me from enjoying this fine fragrance. If I just stay clear of any fabric when I spray it on my flesh, I'm set for a day of smelling fantastic! I think this is one of those rare scents that would work anytime, any occasion. Fresh enough for the warm seasons and crisp enough for cold seasons; demure enough for office wear and sumptuous enough for formal or evening wear. The bottle is prettier than I thought it would be. In pictures, the homogenized Lauder bottles appear a bit underwhelming, but held in hand, it has a weight and proportion that is very pleasing with tiny ridges that run the height of the bottle on the sides and is carried through the acrylic cap. Hi @apleip5993!! You might be able to find a vintage bottle of Estee on eBay. That's where I found mine several years ago. The prices weren't too bad either. I ended up tiring of it, so I gave it to my Aunt, who loved it. The only other perfume that reminds me of vintage Estee, is Moon Drops by Revlon. That might be harder to find though. There is a new formulation of Moon Drops right now, but I can't speak to the similarity to vintage Estee. I'm dying to try the modern formula of Moon Drops though. When you're looking for the vintage Estee on eBay, look for bottles that have an amber colored liquid. That is the original formula. Also, it's really good in Pure Fragrance Spray (pineapple bottle) and in the Super Cologne Spray, which is also in a pineapple shaped bottle, but it has frosted glass. Just make sure it has the darker liquid, and not yellow. I think you're really going to like it!! Happy shopping!!

@apleip5993, The new one is really a completely different fragrance from the vintage. I have a pineapple bottle, I believe to be from 2010. It's definitely a reformulated version. It is labeled as Eau de Parfum Spray. The liquid is a pale yellow. It looks just like the picture on here, for the pineapple bottle. I also had one a few years ago, that I got from eBay. I believe it is from the 90's, but I'm not sure. It was in the pineapple bottle, and was labeled Pure Fragrance Spray. The liquid was more like an amber color. It is definitely the original formula, because I remember it from the 1980's. The current bottle, that they started making in 2015, is also reformulated, and resembles the scent it had back when it was originally reformulated. So, to answer your question, the new bottle smells completely different from vintage Estee. It really is a different fragrance.

Even though I've never smelled the previous formulation, this Estée smells incredible. It is especially made for those who enjoy a clean, razor-sharp, green aldehyde perfume, warmed up only with ylang-ylang. That flower provides a much-needed contrast for the high-pitch, almost too bright soapy aldehydes. Without it, it would become sterile. Because it may not be everyone's taste - and especially with the current market tendencies -, it feels especially refreshing.

A beautiful green floral. It has a quite a strong coriander note that I personally love. It also definitely has aldehydes in it. Love.

There’s something very sharp about this. And I can’t tell which notes make it so. Upon initial spray, there’s a hint of ammonia, which is puzzling. Maybe it’s orris and coriander, though I doubt it. It’s unfortunate that a couple of notes might be throwing me off. I wish it reminded me of champagne and chandeliers as advertised. I will try another time to see whether I get the same reaction or get something better. I think layering something soft will improve it for my olfactory preference. Update: 06/10/2023. I tried again. The dry down smells nicer than before, but that persistent ammonia-like smell is still in the background. Without that pungent note, this would be lovely.

photorealistic porta-potty scent

Not a very easy scent, I must admit. Starts off green, then settles extremely soapy and then turns green again. The pyramid here lacks a lot of the notes, especially stuff that is detectable all the way to its complete dissipation. Aside from ylang-ylang, I get some intense greenness from probably the muguet or the coriander but mostly from oakmoss, loads of it! I find it interesting, but could have been better blended. It's far from floral although a bit comes up front from time to time. Most likely better if layered with something floral. Overall... Fine... Like... Not excellent! 🌟

The worst i have ever tried! Had to scrubb it off. Try it before you by it.
