Estee

A friend gave me this perfume several years ago because it was marketed as sporty, and I was doing a lot of sporty things at the time (relatively speaking, for a myopic bookworm). I wasn't crazy about it at the time, although I liked it, but I never thought it smelled like a real sport scent (not like, say, CK One or something unisex, or a "freshie" or so forth). I have kept it in a box in the refrigerator door all this time, and it has held up beautifully. Now that I know more about aldehydes, I can appreciate this perfume for what it is: a sharp, strong (Super Cologne! lol) aldehyde-heavy floral fragrance. Its floral mix probably reads as dated to a certain demographic, but I don't care. I think it is a perfume for a lady who might golf or play the occasional set of very desultory doubles tennis, the kind who perspires just enough to glow but always stops short of sweating. The white florals (lily of the valley maybe) and sharp florals remind me a little of Sparkling White Diamonds by ET, but I find some overlap among many of the EL and ET and EA fragrances, no doubt because they often worked with the same noses. Also, for a cologne, even a "Super Cologne," as labeled, this is insanely strong. I'm not even very warm right now. I imagine that in the summertime you would have to be very careful not to overspray this. What a performer, especially for a chypre. Update: If you haven't read Alphairone's review a ways down, do yourself a favor and read it. Also, the person who discerned the faint pissy note lurking amid the jonquils isn't wrong--and yet it doesn't mar the fragrance for me. Betty and Bernard--what a dynamic duo! Update: Just tested this against the new Frederic Malle-ified "Legacy" version, and it won on every count. It's practically criminal that they are releasing a zombified version (it's not awful or anything, but it smells like one part OG Pleasures to two parts Estee Super Cologne Spray to one part water). It's creamier, with a stronger lilac accord, and altogether less moss. It is very much not a chypre, nor is it aldehydic. I could tell the old formulation (which is perfectly preserved--I have a mostly full bottle that I keep in my refrigerator) immediately from the Legacy edition, at every stage of the drydown. If nothing else, the Legacy edition makes me even sorrier that they're planning to discontinue what I will always consider the REAL version, the one my dear friend gave me as a gift many years ago, my Super Cologne Spray. I do understand that there is no way those oakmoss notes can return, at least not in the same form, but I don't think Malle et al. even tried to fake it. This "Legacy" version is missing at least 75% of the listed notes--and I don't smell them, so I don't think they're just streamlining the description. I get that chypres are a hard sell in this gourmand-jonesing market. Fine! Change the name of the fancy $300 Malle formulation; call it something else, or make it a flanker of Estee. But if you're going to call something "Legacy," don't update it and make it smell like some entirely different fragrance. At every stage of the drydown I could tell the difference between the two. The fragrances aren't even sisters; they're first cousins at best.

Refinement has a name and a surname, and here's where I could find it, in this Estée Lauder EDP that, by far, I never imagined it to be all it is in performance, "character" and representativeness. I still wonder: Was I born in a misguided olfactory-corresponding era?! only can. Everything in the past that configures itself as a perfume in its final phase, for my nostrils is certainly pleasing, even if it is repulsed by the rest of the world. It's impressive, from the 80's onwards, everything in the way of aroma represents me, and in a dignified way. Estée Lauder, while EDP is not kidding, opens very harshly and with a lot of pressure, blowing everything ahead with its Aldehyde note united with white flowers and something sweet, only fleeting in the middle! It has those difficult openings, but that already leave traces of something sublime that will emerge ahead. It turns into a closed, luscious and quite intense floral. The Iris note in it is quite noticeable and leaves the perfume with a touch of old-time makeup which it exudes so much that if it is being used in a temperature that is not mild, headaches will be almost certain. Particularly I was superb in front of his dry down, I felt extremely exalted, wanting to dominate the world by noticing how Estée Lauder exuded closed touches of powder and warm honey in a way to promote me! After a whole day on the skin, bravely resisting baths and even sweating, Estée Lauder is a little more intimate and with a touch of Oakmoss, Sandalwood, Iris and the raw resinous aspect of Styrax that for a moment reminded me of a good old animal civet, a big mistake! There is no such thing as perfuming yourself with Estée Lauder EDP and regretting it later, no. It's a perfume that is a level above everything and elevates any "ego" to a level that we only discover when we submit ourselves to such a fragrance! Delighted, so I stand before Estée Lauder EDP!

This past May I decided to try Estee Eau Du Super Parfum spray in it's current formulation. Estee Lauder may claim that Estee has not been reformulated, but it definitely is different than the 1970's version. The first difference is the extremely harsh opening. It is very loud, astringent and medicinal. The opening is long lasting,, at least 45 minutes. I applied three small sprays and my two family members who walked through the room a bit later both got particles caught in their throats. They both agreed that it was a very caustic scent. Fortunately it dried down to a beautiful sharp fresh clean aura that kept improving as the day went on. I wore Estee 2 or 3 days a week all summer even in 100 degree weather. I worked out in it and asked my trainer how it seemed while at my sweatiest. She thought it was lovely and fresh. I don't think that I would have used the Estee of the 70's in this fashion. There must be a fair amount of synthetics in ther brew as Estee elicited no allergic reactions in me. Normally I use a bottle until it is gone, but in December I packed this one away to use next summer. It's sharp freshness is just the thing to carry me trough that heat and humidity. Don't be afraid of this formulation, once you get past the opening, it's an improvement over the original. Two spritzes are plenty and some may say that one is enough. On me the longevity is a good 12 hours. Sillage is less than the original, but very respectable and infinitely more wearable. This fragrance is a great value and a fine testament to the women whose name it bears.

Brand new bottle. Less liquid. More money. New formulation. EL told me they bottled super cologne. From reading all those who loved super cologne, I think plenty of water was added to this. Initially, it smells similar to what was manufactured in the 70s through 90s. The headache-inducing smell in 2008-2010 left me nauseated and I returned it. A sweet SA at Macy's had both bottles in the drawer and she let me choose. The original wasn't as yellow. How I wish I'd bought more than one bottle from that drawer. Then in late 2010 (by checking batch codes) they began to formulate again, seemingly trying to return it to Estee's creation herself in 1968-69. I breathed a sigh of relief and compliments came. Fast forward to 2015. I plunked down $50 for a new bottle because I was out. I always wore pure fragrance spray. I was not opposed to super cologne. But this stuff doesn't even last!! Different bottle (I thought the original was beautiful), now like a watered down cologne---not eau de PARFUM, no more compliments, etc. I have made a permanent switch to a company which found a legal way to use oakmoss, to make a fragrance that lasts on the skin, & comes in a variety of forms. I'm so weary of dealing with the yearly whims of Estée Lauder. Many of my students used to love the smell of my classroom due to great sillage of this scent. I've spent years asking EL via phone and online to return it to original formulation. I'd love for others to join me. The reviews on their own site sure have dissatisfied customers. Estee super perfume is what is photographed. I was told that first it was called Estee, then it was called Super Parfum, then it was called Pure fragrance mist, then there is a lighter version called Super cologne. I have actually tried all three and they all smell alike to me. Warning or I guess I should say Disclaimer: ONE SPRAY is all that is needed. Review of both vintage and non vintage formulas: I was at Ulta and sprayed the version of pure fragrance spray. It was somewhat unpleasant to my nose but I sprayed it on test strip and took it to the car. Very strong. Anyhow I had the test strip in my car. As it calmed down wow it was absolutely gorgeous. I decided to give a vintage bottle of the Super cologne and I must say it's totally gorgeous. I think if your going to get this go for the vintage. It just has a niche type vibe to it. I can't quite explain other then this is VERY clean. Not floral really, not at all fruity just very classic and clean. I suggest to try finding a vintage bottle. I am middle aged and try and avoid loud scents that remind me of older women who were in my life. I gravitate towards newer popular fragrances. But something with Estee is extremely uplifting as though I am receiving a large hug from the warmest kindest person. It's a mood lifter. If your someone who enjoys Flowerbomb or Victoria's Secret scents I would guess you might actually hate this one. But if your willing to open the possibilities and go beyond current trend - this is one hell of a number!

Every time I wear this I'm intrigued and baffled. This perfume is a liquid golden light, half mysterious and half charming. Estee, in parfum, opens with a very strange and almost violent soapy presence evocative of a warm golden light. Everything is already apparent, but the lily, ylang, honey, citrus, aldehydes, and coriander seem to open first. There's a fleshy, hefty quality to it that brings to mind the heavy flowers of the amaryllis. It comes off quite poisonous and soapy. After a few minutes, the weird as hell opening begins to let some traditional floral nuances through, all the while retaining the feeling of golden light. There is a warmth to the light provided by styrax and clove, though it is just subtle. This warmth complements a tart fruity nuance. Creamy and waxy facets seem to mingle with the indolic jasmine and tuberose. There is a rooty nuance, but nothing speaks of the earth. This is still totally abstract.The light effect seems to grow progressively warmer and more orange. The honey becomes drier and more urinous and there begins to exist an element of chewable vitamins. After many hours the perfume becomes a delicate and lightly soapy mossy presence that is so familiar. It has a very 60s feel, but lacks the intense musk of Climat. This is the strongest perfume I've ever worn by far. It's greasy and sticky and just the residue from the stopper is enough for three applications. I love it!

I have been reading the more recent reviews. Perhaps the batch code could explain how beautiful it begins, then how bad it gets. There were some years in there, 2008-2010, that I simply couldn't wear my long-time signature scent. It made me nauseated and gave me a headache. Then I learn about a new batch that was out in September 2010. I waited to buy until it had a batch code of A31 (America,March,2011). It was very pretty and I got compliments. Don't rely on the testers at the counter. Some are putrid. Well, it only got better. I ran out of that one and decided the freshest bottle could be gotten at the EL site. Pay tax and that's it. The batch code was A92. More recent. (America,Sept,2012). It stays on forever and it is almost identical to what I began wearing in the late 70s. I'm so thankful EL listened to their customers. THE BATCH CODE IS SO IMPORTANT. And a "perfume" formulation? It's not on their site or at their department counters. All I've worn is pure fragrance spray. Stronger than pure cologne spray. Individual preference, but have never seen a "perfume" bottle sold anywhere (EL counters and their site) in about 15 years. Maybe longer but I wasn't on there a long time ago. Thankfully when I retired, the real Estée was being formulated again. I sure spent some cash trying to find a replacement during their nauseating years. Today's ESTÉE deserves 5+ points.

There is a sublime effervescence to Estée EDP. The aldehydes open in a shimmer, opal glow, almost as if I see refracting light as I smell the opening. and a coriander-dusted Casablanca lily blooms soon thereafter. This soon shifts into a magnificent carnation accord levitating above my skin in a most lustrous cloud. Estée feels like the warmth of the sun on an early spring morning, an epiphany following a long period of stasis. Its jubilant nature may be perceived as a bit too "precious" to some noses, but an aldehydic floral is more than fresh, clean, soapy. Estée is more than that especially, with the persistence of its fleshy, floral radiance. Then there is the zen that is its dry down, honey glow woods and powdery, mossy coda. As I write this, I am listening to the hypnotic music of Terry Riley, which turns out to be an excellent pairing while experiencing the dry down. Just as Riley's music is polymetric and polyrhythmic, there is a sensation of movement, of activity, in Estée. It's quite stimulating, but also somehow relaxing. I do also see this going well with those going for a "glamour puss" vibe just as well as it would suit a quiet, bookish disposition. As a devoted admirer of Bernard Chant's, this ranks with Aromatic Elixir as a great work of this master perfumer.

This perfume is my all time favorite scent. I have moderate to severe anxiety and this fragrance actually alleviates most of my anxiety. The smell to me is so relaxing, so much so that, when I'm having an anxiety attack, all I have to do is smell the bottle and my anxiety is GONE. I actually keep a small bottle with me in my pocket at all times in case of an emergency! This fragrance has a very soapy, clean note that vaguely reminds me of Dove or Ivory soap, along with soft, powdery florals. To my nose, the soapy quality is the most prominent, and, again, to my nose, it almost has a tobacco-y type smell, which I also adore. The lasting power is 6-8 hours, and the projection is on the heavier side, lasting about the same amount of time. I always get compliments when I wear this fragrance, which is every single day, from both men and women. I was actually approached by a guy in Rite-Aid and was asked what scent I was wearing. This has never happened before. To me, this scent could work on both genders, as well as all ages. Its uni-sexy! Overall, I highly suggest this scent. It has a lovely vintage feel that is classic and timeless, and is perfect for any occasion, whether it be grocery shopping, or going on a fancy date. I give this five stars, ten out of ten, two thumbs up!

I smell this and I'm seven miles up in the blue sky. What an opening this perfume has! After the intial absolutely wonderful aldehydes, comes the soft aldehyde with sweet powder. Rose tries to come through but never gets there because of honey'd powder light tuberose. I also smell mimosa. ...and a distant grass scent that never truly surfaces, The constant is a light sweet powder that never changes and only gets softer. Now the visual: So, you smell this and suddenly you are instantaneously in a beautiful blue sky with light feathery clouds, and the bright sun is a big powder puff, letting it's light but consistent powder rays warm you. Honeybees bring you nectar to drink and while you sip, angels bring you floral bouquets and throw red rose petals at your feet. You see that it is a sunshower on earth, and you can smell the green field of grass some damp wood, oh, but so ever at a distance. The constant sun, basking you with it's powdery rays, and the angels stay a long while until nightfall. Then you are left with the sun "rays" glowing on your body, and the light taste of sweet nectar on your lips, as you sit on the peak of the mountan, where the stars 'sparkle' you. Hmmmm....gee, maybe there was a little extra something in MY bottle....lol

Like Proust's madeleine, Estee is for me a remembrance of things past. Back in the 70s, my mom loved this fragrance...it was her favorite before she discovered White Linen. Both are aldehyde powerhouses and I love them both, but White Linen is just too 'loaded' with personal history for me to make my own. I'll take Estee...but for reasons beyond the memories. This, to me, is the 70s in a bottle. It screams Diane Von Furstenburg wrap dresses accessorized with aviator shades and the darkest (natural) tan possible, achieved while smoking Salem menthols, of course. But no sexpot Farrah 'do for the Estee girl...no, no, no. Estee is sexy with white florals but, thanks to her aldehydes, not overtly so; she's reminiscent of Edith Head's dictate regarding dresses...they should be tight enough to show you're a woman, but loose enough to show you are a lady. In short, if you're going on a weekend trip where you will re-enact '50 Shades of Grey' from cover to cover, you won't grab Estee off the dressing table before you go. But if you're going to wear your white blouse unbuttoned just one button more than usual...Estee is your partner in crime.

I ran out of my Estee Pure Fragrance Spray which I got in 2000. Since I'd heard that the most recent reformulation of Estee wasn't too bad in its approximation of the original scent, I decided to buy it. At the store the Estee Super Eau de Parfum seemed much weaker, and different from the original. But I'd read in the comments here that the new formulation takes time to develop. Then once it does, it smells wonderful. So I decided to give it a chance, and bought a bottle. Today was my first day wearing it. OMG! What a disappointment. The first spray was bad; it had a very strong somewhat unpleasant smell. I figured it would mellow out soon enough. As the day went on, the initial burst of unpleasantness did soften, but the unpleasant composition remained. This reformulation of Estee is a crime. I can't imagine how horrid the first reformulation was if this one is considered good. The original Estee's crisp, fresh, feminine, intoxicating, masterfully crafted fragrance has been ruined. The new one is not even a distant approximation of the original masterpiece. The demise of Estee is like the murder of a great beauty.

I wonder what the "original formula" was like because the current one is pretty atrocious. The opening is slightly fruity. I thought there could be a touch of melon in it. But I had to breathe through my mouth for the first hour. The back of my throat became sore. What is this made of, roach spray? I forced myself to continue to wear it to see if it would develop into something pleasant. Two hours later it became a lot more tolerable. The drydown smells like honey and cedar. Not bad, but not worth the sore throat and two-hour wait. Update: I've had a horrible sore throat for the past 3 days, since inhaling this perfume. I sniff a lot of perfume, and no other perfume has ever done this to me. Update: I really had to give it another chance using a different method. Instead of spraying it like I would spray a modern perfume (3 strong squirts), I used ONE extremely light spritz. When I did that, I really enjoyed the fragrance! I could smell honey, cedar, and and a clean soapiness that I did not get the first time I tried it. I am very happy I gave it another shot and that I know how to apply it now.

I adore Estee Lauder fragrances, and so did my chic and spirited mother. I don't remember if she wore this, but I (re?)discovered this little gem a few years ago at an EL department store counter. I was attracted to the little pineapple bottle and I knew that I needed to smell it. Upon the very first spray it was like coming home and my nose was desperately smitten. It's immediately uplifting and cheerful with a HUGE blast of flowers, wood, and fruitiness. YES! Mixed with a most curious mix of fresh herbal scents and the happiest, sweetest, honey ever made. YES! Sillage is exceptional as is longevity. I spray 1-2 sprays in the morning and I smell it through the evening. I am in my mid 30's and wear this as my signature fragrance! I feel cheerful, unique, and elegant when I wear it. It has a chipper but refined kind of "whistle" about it. It reminds me of the chirpy and windy engine whistle of a finely-kept vintage Saab or Volkswagen Beetle. Gorgeous, LOVE!!!! Love the "wind chimes" reference and agree!

Ah, my dearest Estee; an old and glorious friend. The type that uses a cigarette holder while she encircles herself, and you, with long gray tendrils of smoke. On my skin, there is a slight smokiness to the scent, a sour puff of cigarette smoke. The iris is the true flora that shines through in this fragrance. She melts deep into your pores and begins to heat and mingle with the lemon, coriander and lily of the valley - YES- let us not forget that now forming church incense note. I have to agree with @FruitDiet that this scent on men will make you seem Bohemian, artistic, eccentric. I've had SO many compliments by women on this scent, asking what the name of it was and where I got it because they wanted to buy it for their husband/boyfriend. Who'd have thought! This is the scent of dusty pearls and the shedding of your grandmother's expensive furs. This scent paints your walls burgundy and buys only Ralph Lauren china. Will ALWAYS by a staple in my perfume collection.

It’s June 1990, and I’m four years old. My aunt has just come home from work , she’s a teacher, and to me, she is the coolest person on the planet. Blonde permed hair with heavy ’80s bangs, a long denim skirt, and an oversized denim shirt cinched at the waist with a thick belt. She's adorned with big silver jewellery. I can smell her makeup and her floral, heavily powdery perfume with a faint hint of citrus. It’s almost sunset, and we’re driving down the road from Hatay to Alsancak in İzmir, singing along to the radio. The pink and orange haze on the horizon, palm trees passing by, and the anticipation of getting ice cream while shopping for toys with the coolest person in the world, my best friend, still to this day. When I smell this, I’m four again, and my aunt is forever that young teacher. This is the bottle I carry that memory in. It stings my sinuses if I spray it on myself but don't mind smelling it on others; especially if those people are my mom or my aunt.

I'm doing a second review now that I've grown to love this scent (after spraying it incorrectly and finding it to be completely atrocious the first time I tested it). The cologne is a totally different scent from the Pure concentration. Estee Lauder describes the cologne as being for daytime use. Indeed I find it to be significantly lighter, much more powdery, less fruity, and frankly not as magnificent as the Pure concentration. I also thought it smelled "old-fashioned." The Pure concentration has that hint of peachy-raspberry-melon that I really like. It's somehow crisper, sweeter, more refined, and cleaner than the cologne. I find the honey to be more prominent as well. Sometimes I think it smells like shampoo, but when I put my nose close to my arm, I know that the perfume smells much more beautiful than than any shampoo. I don't think the Pure version smells dated like the cologne does. It's youthful and fresh and reminds me of White Linen in a way.

estee...wow...a timeless burning candle' just like all the great women who wore it, to burn themselves out, for the ones they love...a beautiful light, clean, fresh, and long lasting in a clear way ..i can ware it as a final spray to lighten other deeper scents; or on its own.its not getting what it deserves really. its that little hidden secrete along azure, and cynibar ,and the original, old youth dew; maybe due to their realitevly cheapear price tag compared to the rest of the line.. any how i can not live without atleast six of each as a back up stock or to give to friends..they are true original perfumes that do not have any of those thynsthetic weird plasticky smells you find these days.. back to estee..its simply a memory in its own sense it has a charisma and a lightness that over powers .its a beautiful scent rating 4.7 out of 5

Thank you, Cubby, for this wonderful news...and Lord, EL&co. I'm still using my not so extensive stash of the-old-formula-pineapple-bottle-super-perfume Estée, or the good stuff, and panicking 'what will I do after I run out?' Tonight, I will sleep peacefully. Estée is my therapy perfume. It's always so welcome, happy and mood-lifting. That kind of perfumes are rare and precious. One of those that I refuse live without. Unbelievable quality for the price. So much cheaper then the real therapy too! I don't care for the new bottle if the juice is, well, old. I can't find it anymore, Pleasures and Muses have overtaken the stores and I have not been brave enough to order the new bottle online. I don't even mind if it's watered down a bit. My Estée usually stays with me more than 24 h! And we are SO happy together...:-)

First of all, Estee has finally been reformulated to match (almost) its original 1968 release. I gave it up from late 2008 until early 2011, when they finally listened long enough to their customers and changed it from the sickening, headache-inducing scent that it became in 2008. You have to look at the batch code. One person on another site wrote that a September 2010 batch code was the right reformulation. Mine says A31, which means America-March 2011. And I spray only ONCE. You simply cannot spray too much of this or you'll repel most people or give them a splitting headache. It is a strong scent that lasts at least 15 hours on me. I've gotten compliments --- again, and that means it's the original juice. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this stuff. No fragrance shopping for me anymore. I have my Estee back!

When I was a happy little child my mother wore this. It was gorgeous and womanly. It had an air of class and distinction. I adored it. I am now a woman of my own and loving my mother as I do, I love to try out her favorites. It was as stunning as I remember but dare I say it...stronger? suffocating? it smells divine whether it has been reformulated or not. The jasmine, citrus and cinnamon swirling like little scent fairies fluttering in the sun around crisp cotton sheets on a country clothesline. And something a little animalistic. Sadly I had to give it up because the 2014 version gives me eye-swelling shut migraines. Horrible, agonizing headaches. Very sad. But still a lovely fragrance! one to two spritz are more than plenty with this knock-out. Lasting power is wonderfully old style, endless!

This was a MASTERPIECE. Clean cool Mossy chypre and aldehyde blended perfectly. I felt like a special young princess all during the years I wore this, both because youth is special and because I smelled so beautiful, I also wore Aliage. I fell in love with someone very special during this time and he moved far away. So if I remember this smell, I can see and feel him in my mind, and it breaks my heart all over again. I only stopped wearing it because I was in college and could not justify the cost at that time. Oh how I wish I had a bottle of that, and not the new version that people are leaving bad reviews about now. I wore this in the 9th grade until i was around 20 years old, my grandmother loved everything Estee Lauder and she gifted these to me back then

I have a vintage mini-sized bottle of the super-cologne, and Oh my gosh, does it ever smell good! No idea why this is classified as a floral, when the aldehydes and oakmoss are so front and centre and so utterly disarmingly delicious. I do get some floral notes but so mixed with the dominant notes they are very much supporting actors and not in the lead roles at all. It is strong stuff, one quick spray on my forearm stays with me for a good eight hours. I have found towards the end of that time there is a slightly off-note of, well, decaying vegetation, is the closest I can describe it, maybe it's the age of the bottle I have? But it's not strong or intolerable, I will be interested to see if I get the same note when I test a new bottle. 9/10 & a new love.

Well, for those who've been to the EL website, you'll see that the bottle has not changed. One has to read the description to find out the formulation. When I've chatted with consultants, they've said it has been confusing. My bottle has a batch code of A76 (I think). It was bottled in July of this year. And the name super eau de parfum has remained the same, I always wore the pure fragrance spray so this is a little different but most of the original Estee is back. Edit: Nope, the original isn't even there, after they claim to have returned to the original formulation. A very generous Fragrantican has sent me the vintage bottle and THIS is what I loved. What a delight to wear it today, 5/13/17.

My second review, that I must write. Well, I must say, this little number is my staple Spring perfume for sure. I have been choosing it over my other perfumes time after time again since,.....I think.... March. It is now May. When it rains, the scent just sparkles. It's like wearing a bit of sunshine. Fresh, clean, without being soapy. A real vintage, classic, classy perfume. (((snnnniffff))) Ahhhh...it's so gorgeous. Edit: Just to be clear I actually have the vintage. I did not go through the reformulation phase as some of you did, and from what I am reading it sounds that EL is going back (or at least closer) to the original version....thank goodness!!

I like this. To me it is warm, non-spicy as in no cloves or carnations thankfully, and it reminds me of perfumes from my 70s childhood. Very wearable, very me. Well... if I've got the right perfume. I tried one on at an airport yesterday and the bottle looked exactly like the one pictured here. However, myself and the saleswoman deduced that it was actually 'Eau de Private Collection' (there was also a 'Private Collection' tester)as that was the box behind it and the box that matched in size (there was no actual perfume name on the bottle or base, just 'Estee Lauder') so it was quite confusing, and I can find no 'Eau de Private Collection here, hmmm.....

This review is for the vintage Super EDP strength, which is quite a rich amber colour, not pale like the modern version. It's a great, luscious, rich but bright floral. Someone else said it's like champagne and I think that's true, thanks to the fizzy aldehydic opening. Its floral heart is floral like a great, rich white wine is floral and it dries down sweetly. I hardly ever wear this but why, I'm not sure, as it always garners compliments, usually of the 'amazing' variety. A beautiful fragrance that reminds me of the original White Linen and original Oscar - light, bright, feminine and rich without sourness.

OMG and LOVE! I crossed paths with a vintage Estee Super edp. Such luck! After the initial blast of aldehydes and carnation it tones down to honey and sandalwood. Very much like Kurkdjans controversial Absolue Pour le Soir, which I happen to love. So much fun, but obviously not according to everyone. The new Estee seems different, more aldehydic and peppery. This on is a smoochie, just a wonderful unique scent that I am going to wear the rest of the week. I need to get more than that little bottle I have! You who have experience on the reformulation, does it have the honey wibe?

All I have of this one is an older (at least 15 years old) perfume mini that lost its label so it took me forever to identify it because the shape of the bottle is different from what is most commonly shown. Anyway, there are a few fragrances that to me smell like what I imagine heaven would be and this is one of them. It's the perfect blend of warm floral and spice on my skin, and it lasts forever. I'm afraid to try the current version of it. So many of the rich classics have been ruined. Since mine is such a tiny amount I only wear it when I really need a dose of heaven.

Another gorgeous, timeless classic! So chic and stylish in all it's vintage glory! The aldehydes sizzle, sparkle and add such a clean soapy freshness to this lovely floral fragrance. It smells clean and crisp and sexy with the combination of the florals and the wood notes, I adore every phase from the aldehydes, to the emergence of the white and yellow flowers, to the dry down where the woody notes join in. This fragrance knows no age limits and will be divine on those whose chemistry it deems worthy. Sillage on me is moderate. Longevity is long lasting.

My nose has matured over the years and Estee is proof. I used to think she was a horrible, dusty, heavy, and suffocating perfume. Over the last two or three years, however, I have realized I love aldehydes, so I re-sampled it today. I don’t know what was wrong with me! This is so sparkling and light, like champagne. It also leaves a squeaky clean scent behind that just smells so nice. Not blind buy safe, unless you know for sure where your tastes lay. I also do not think Estee is close to Halston Classic, which I wear all the time.

I have an older bottle that's marked Super Cologne Spray, and I love this iteration of Estée about a billion times more than the Malle update, ironically called "Legacy." For me the true legacy of Estee Lauder lies in the older formulations, with their perfect crisp aldehydes and luxuriant mosses. I love the sandalwood note, too. I think my formulation is from the early aughts, although I don't remember exactly when I received it. I have kept it in my refrigerator because it's even better when you spray it on cold, trust.

If Knowing by Lauder is a powerful corporate mogul, then Estee is her publicist and confidant. She works the room; wining, dining, charming the pants off clients and competition (sometimes literally). What a beautiful oakmoss composition this is. Carnation, iris, coriander and oakmoss present themselves the most on my skin. Fascinating is that they take turns as top note, depending on the day or night. Lily and honey whisper in the backdrop. If Estee has been reformulated, I can't tell the diff. A feminine classic.

My beautiful mother (89 y 30th of august) gave me her nearly full edp 60 ml vintage in 2018, it was her signature scent before she converted to Pleasures, witch is her new signature, For so many years I couldn't stand this perfume, we, her girls also had a lot of bottles of this juice back than, I tried to sell mums big bottle, but without any luck, it has been staying there hiding behind my new babies, but, tonight I sprayed it on my arms and said wow: What a fantastic good smelling perfume this is!!!!

Zsuzana at least acknowledged there is now a NEW Estee to love. The Estee Lauder site has these old ladies proclaiming that it never changed. Probably are still using an older bottle. But I can smell changes, regardless of what people say. I even called the Estee Lauder company and they admitted to changing it in 2008-09. Straight from the horse's mouth. EL: Please never change it again. It is like a French soap, lasts forever, and garners many compliments for it's clean smell. Even children love it.

To those who've sniffed the new formulation in the square bottle and don't like it, rest assured that Estée Lauder has documented on their web site that it IS a different fragrance. Why a new name for it wasn't chosen, I don't know. Many reviewers have shared disappointing reviews, begging to have the super cologne spray return in its original scent. And EL has listened!! Super cologne spray is to return this summer. It's easy to get on and "chat" to find out the particulars about its release. Yea!!

If you are purchasing ESTEE with a batch code ending in 1 or 2, you are getting the reformulated Estee - reformulated BACK to more of what 1968 offered. And I love it! So far, my batch codes have A31 on them - (America-March-2011). I think the positive change began in Sept. 2010. I get compliments again and the splitting headache the Estee of 2008-09 gave me is gone. I wore Estee from the 1980s-2008, then had to stop. I hope they NEVER change it again!!!

Oh, how I wish EL would bring back the formulation of the 90s. Even then, I would apply with a cotton ball. It lasted 15+ hours and I loved it!! It was beautiful; hardly anything compares to it now. My sister told me that Balmain's Ivoire smells likes the old Estee, "only better". And Ivoire is incredibly cheap to be found online. Worth a try, if you love the "real" Estee. How EL could so drastically change something she named for herself is beyond me.

Gwenz- Rest assured, the new bottle is just barely similar to the vintage. There is less in the bottle, it is more expensive, and it lasts less than 4 hours on the skin. What a tragic sort of thing Estée Lauder has done to "The House of Lauder". Reviewers complain about every single generic square bottle and the liquid inside. Estee was ME. Can someone tell me---do you regularly wear the vintage (2007 and earlier), and where do you get it?

This smells like my mother. She has worn this for years and years. I love it, but find that it smells a little dated and old on me. I went to buy this for her for her birthday and the SA looked at me and stated "don't tell me you are buying this for yourself!" I did not like her attitude one bit! This is a lovely fragrance, sparkling, bright, and full of sunshine. Wonderful! This fragrance also has incredible lasting power!

Wearing my vintage Super Cologne Spray today, and indeed it is perfect for hot weather. Nothing like a crisp aldehydic floral to vanguish the sweaty summer doldrums! I find it exasperating that the Fragrantica score for this Busse/Chant classic is so low and can only attribute it to quality-control issues with some of the later formulations. Don't even get me started on those vile Legacy editions!

Gorgeous green-floral chypre with a burst of tingly aldehydes at the opening. Chant DNA in there for sure, you can smell him waving through time. Reminds me of Coty Elan, Rive Gauche, L'Imperatif, and even a little of Caleche (minus the huge civet). This is easy to love. If you're a Bernard Chant enthusiast or enjoy other classic Estee Lauder offerings, this will surely please you.

My mother wears this. She uses just one light spray and walks through the mist and that's all! Very strong but it smells so good. I asked what she had that smelled so good one day when she was doing her hair after a shower. I didn't know if it was hairspray, deoderant, soap, makeup or all of these together. It was such a clean just showered scent. I have it and love it too now.

I found out it's the super cologne I love in this. Because of the photo, I thought the bottle had changed. I wasn't aware there was a super cologne AND a super eau de parfum. I almost purchased this on line by mistake. Whew....close one. What an expensive mistake this could be. Make sure to try both before a purchase. You may like one over the other.

this is how my high school friends remembers me...with this fragrance, this was my teenage fragrance, I still like it, but not using it no more. soapy, powdery, balmy, musky...if you like these last notes remain on your skin then you can try this on. a nice addition...suitable for daily wear, can be used winter and summer as well.

Good news from EL online: "While Estee Pure Fragrance Spray has been phased out, Estee Super Cologne Spray will be returning and Estee Eau de Parfum Spray, which is what we had in its place, has been discontinued." Great news!! Maybe the original super cologne will be in the square bottle. Now I'm told maybe by the end of July.

If you have been a devotee of the original Estee Pure Fragrance Spray (pre-2008), please write them via their web site and ask them to bring it back - apparently they pay attention to customer needs and reviews. I've written numerous times and even phoned them. The rep on the phone admitted there had been a change.

To the previous poster: Make sure you are smelling a formulation of Sept. 2010 or newer. Anything from mid-2008 until then was vile, IMO. I was quite young in 1968 and didn't wear perfume, but I do like the Estee that Estee Lauder is selling right now...such an improvement!

I have fond memories of wearing this. It was a nice clean fragrance. By the mid seventies too many women had discovered it's loveliness and the smell became too commonplace for me. Now might be a good time to try it again.
