Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia

As a true tuberose lover it is hard for me to resist the temptation to leave any perfume featuring tuberose unexplored, even though I have my favorites and really don't want to find any new favorites that I HAVE to have. My favorites are Serge Lutens Tubereuse Criminelle and Annick Goutal Tubereuse, and with those a part of my everyday life it's pretty hard for a tuberose perfume to get my attention but this one sure did. In fact my favorite two became my favorite three. First I smelled it at Nieman Marcus on the paper strip since I was not even going to give it any skin time, I just wanted to give it a quick sniff test on the test strip but right away I loved what I smelled. Then once I doused my wrists with it and let the fragrance dry down and develop. I know that it is a women's perfume but I am a firm believer there is no such thing as a women's perfume and a men's perfume. I think that even coming up with the concept was a colossally stupid idea, as if we cannot decide for ourselves what we wish to smell like. With that said, I believe that a lot of the women's fragrances smell much differently when a man wears them, further making them much more masculine than when worn by a woman. As a tuberose and gardenia lover I grow tuberose in my garden and gardenia in my greenhouse so I am very familiar with the exact smell of the live blooms and by so many of the comments on these sites it is very obvious that many of those commenting are not. This perfume is predominantly tuberose with gardenia as a secondary focal point. The many tuberose perfumes exhibit the tuberose scent in very different ways by focusing on different qualities of its scent profile. In this perfume we smell the sweet, creamy, rich floral qualities of tuberose while the wintergreen (salicylate) and camphor aspects of the natural fragrance are present but not emphasized so the tuberose in this perfume is sweeter, creamier and more purely floral with less of the camphor, green, wintergreen notes than the natural live tuberose flower. Also there are the sharp more citrus qualities in addition to the generic white floral contributed by the gardenia. As with most white florals this perfume as very good sillage. In general white florals are not something you wear if you don't want everyone sitting at your table to know you're wearing a white floral perfume. If they say that the orange blossom and other flowers are in there, I trust that they are, but I would be less than totally honest if I said that I can distinctly smell them. I just smell a beautiful rich and decadent tuberose mingled with a crisp, fresh gardenia. I am not sure if this is an eau de parfum but I would imagine it is because it does last a good 6-7 hours on my skin and it is not one of those perfumes that changes much as you wear it. After the first few minutes that is what it is and take it or leave it, that is what it's going to be, and for me it is something great that I could not deny a spot among my top favorite tuberose perfumes. I'm certain that any tuberose, gardenia, or white floral lover will, like I feel, never want to be without a bottle of this. It's a great perfume. Definitely now in MY private collection!

Since reading Luca Turin's glowing review of this scent as a young teenager, I have wanted to try this seemingly excellent rendering of gardenia. I wasn't disappointed - Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia is a classy, creamy white floral that does exactly what it says on the tin. Gardenia is a notoriously difficult note to emulate in perfumery - it has to be synthetically rendered, and thus, has resulted in many a misnomer (Chanel, Elizabeth Taylor, Penhaligon's et al.). I smelled gardenia flowers in France, and can confirm that PCTG features a realistic gardenia note. I also owned a rather good rendering of gardenia in soap-bar form once. It is a creamy, slightly sweet, slightly tropical white floral note - less carnal than tuberose, smoother and less tropically sweet than ylang ylang, less indolic yet more intense than jasmine, and earthier than all. There is a greenness to it, but more smoothly incorporated into the white creaminess than in other white florals. I am a lover of white florals, and so blind-bought a big bottle of the EDP. It certainly paid off - this is a simple yet spectacular white floral scent, nothing unusual, but remarkable in its execution. Gardenia is king here, the focal point of this scent, bolstered to perfection by sweet tuberose and other soft white florals. I get some hazy lilac in the opening, followed closely by the creamy gardenia that unfolds on my skin. The tuberose is sweet and muted, serving to enhance the gardenia. As it develops, clean, powdery jasmine rounds it out, and I get a nice, heady lily note too, unmistakable but restrained. There is a green undertone adding dewy, stem-like freshness but without taking from the creamy white florals at the heart of this scent. A little powdery vanilla adds sweetness to the drydown, and it becomes slightly musky as it fades. The sweet white florals remain until final fade. Sillage is strong and longevity is long-lasting - a little goes a long way. A masterfully-composed, classy white floral, this is elegant, timeless and ageless - not too carnal, not indolic, not too sweet, not artificial. Perfectly judged, it features a natural-smelling, high-quality white floral bouquet with just the right amount of sweetness and greenness. Rich and creamy without relying on the liberal use of vanillin, this is the real deal (and much more affordable than its quality suggests). Bonus points for the pitch-perfect gardenia note. A personal favourite. Faultless. 5/5.

One of my first perfumes. Was always a vanilla girl as a kid, and still am, but when it comes to florals, gardenia was my first floral love, and to this day, remains a favorite. Got this many years back when I was a young teen, shopping with my dad. Neimans at the time had a great cosmetics department and that’s where I’d find all my make up and beauty must haves that I’d ask my dad to get me, a true daddy’s girl, and he was my world and loved to spoil me. This perfume is a beautiful timeless scent, I lost the cap unfortunately at some point in the past 5 years, but I keep it in a cabinet or a perfume shelf I got. It isn’t something I wear often as I have newer scents that I like to play with and tend to sometimes for get about the oldies, esp if they are out of sight. But when I do remember to reach for this, it always smells as it did the very first time. Heavenly white florals, it’s strong enough that you know it’s there, but never too much or too little. It really is just the right amount. I looked to see how much I had left and was a bit saddened as I have only about 1/4 of juice left in my big bottle, but I’ll be testing the new one by aerin and hope they are similar. I wouldn’t mind finding the other bottle version of the decorated cap, though I'm not sure if there’s a difference in scent, I just know that I used to be amused by the perfume solids EL made with crystals and cute themes. I know EL has ruined a lot of the beloved fragrances loved by reformulations like Tom Ford perfumes, and since I’ve only owned this one bottle and am pretty sure it’s discontinued? I think that’s a shame. If I’m wrong then it’s not. Cause this is one of the most elegant scents I own, I always feel classy and feminine, and while I do think it would better suit a lady that’s in her mid twenties or later, I don’t think this is something that a 15 year old couldn’t wear, or at least on weekends, but as I said, I’ve had this scent for quite some time. I never got old lady vibes, to me it smells like a fairytale, with a cleanness combined with the white florals, gardenia being the star of the show, that make it so wearable and ageless. I will never tire of it as it’s a gem for life. Whenever i wear this, I think of my father, carrying a sentimental smile on my face.

Earlier batches of EL Tuberose & Gardenia were simply divine. The current formula is still good, however it smells more like jasmine sambac than gardenia or tuberose. (Tuberose was never dominant in this fragrance in the meantime.) It is colder, not lush & tropical like the previous version, and distinctively soapy, which makes it harder for me to wear... So, to give this fragrance an edge and some warmth, I tried to layer it with certain other fragrances I have. Here goes the result: Layered with L'occitane Eau des Vanilliers: A precious vintage indeed... Since EL Tuberose Gardenia already has bourbon vanilla -which became totally unnoticable after several years of maceration- I thought the two fragrances would complete each other. Well, actually L'Occitane devoured EL the moment it was sprayed over it. Madagascar vanilla dominates the composition while the Tuberose Gardenia accentuated its tropical element with a slight but noticeable gardenia hue... A success. The result is overall sweet. No soapiness... Layered with the Body Shop Vanilla: The quality difference between two fragrances became obvious in this combo. They worked fine together, the vanilla and gardenia, but frankly they seem like 2 friends where the fun loving, extrovert, girl next door is seducing an introverted, cold princess into go some sight seeing together... Layered with Yves Rocher Vanille Bourbon (vintage): Kudos, because back in time, even cheap (i.e. affordable) fragrances were made with such quality. This is the closest to the actual original bourbon vanilla note in the EL! And the two perfectly complements each other, in harmony... Layered with Yves Rocher Tendre Jasmin: I think this is my favorite combo over all. Tendre Jasmin dominates the composition, giving such a lovely, sweet and warm edge to the Tuberose Gardenia. The result is very close to the Spanish jasmine I adore, and it is quite realistic... Minty, but not cold and very elegant. I think the orange blossom note in both fragrances loved each other here. This combo seems like a very harmonious marriage.

I can't believe I haven't written a review for this beauty yet, I've been wearing it for a long time. The opening of Lauder's Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia is stunning. Refreshing, luscious, heady with a truly gorgeous gardenia. Thick, creamy, smooth, vegetal, subtly indolic, with an earthy, wet, mushroom touch, this is the closest I've come to "gardenia" in perfumery. The gardenia fades to a realistic yet almost translucent tuberose in the heart. This tuberose is creamy, sweet, and indolic but not overpowering. It doesn't go in the 'overripe cantaloupe' direction as so many do. Other nondescript florals peek through (the carnation note is subtle but vital to the seamless texture), a touch of vanilla maintains the form and color, the final phase reveals a soapy floral base. This one is restorative for me, it's a lovely perfume. Heady and opulent without offending or overwhelming the senses. Classical sensibilities beautifully rendered for the modern world. It's a Lauder release so it's well thought out and it smells fantastic for at least 3 hours. Most new releases only smell good for about 10 minutes, and most new white floral releases smell like screechy soap abominations. As for the Gucci comparison: Tuberose Gardenia doesn't smell anywhere near Gucci Bloom. That perfume is shrill and soapy from the get-go, and it is sorely lacking in realism and refinement. Tuberose Gardenia is so lifelike it has what can only be described as a 3-D effect. This perfume is expensive and hard to come by, but believe you me, it is worth every penny. If you want to get the most out of this beautiful gardenia, apply the perfume to clothing. If you want to find a bottle at a reduced price, I suggest habitually checking the Saks off Fifth website. The 30 ml bottle will occasionally come up for a good discount. You can also try the Lauder discount retailer "the cosmetics company store", although this website does not restock as frequently. Best of luck good smelling people!

After hunting for this for ages, I found the last bottle at our local Saks. Honestly, I'm a man and I love white florals. It's hard to find a white floral that works on a straight man. Having said that, Carnal Flower can work depending on the outfit. This is just elegant, it can work any time of year. I find this very comfortable to wear and effortless if you will. A beautiful and fresh neroli opening to me, this isn't soapy neroli, so I don't get any cleaning product vibes at all. Transitions into a wonderful tuberose gardenia heart, which isn't indolic whatsoever, you feel it's vegetal, crude, but so refined. Eventually, you land on an effervescent yet sensual creamy vanilla base. Scent for me is 10/10 I can't even imagine a more beautiful and elegant white floral and I've been sniffing for 8 years now. Projection is perfect. Definitely will get noticed, but not synthetic overkill. To summarise for a man, I would say if ur looking for a big, elegant white floral, definitely Tuberose Gardenia because Carnal Flower is so wild you need to dress up suit and tie or dress down tropical beach style. TG is much more wearable. If your looking for an even more unisex option, French Flower is an even easier wear but not as big and elegant. That's more Parisian Chic minimalist or their Neroli Oranger offering, which is also wonderful. On the other end of the spectrum, if you're looking for something that screams, Accento Overdose will do that in spades. For women above 25, this is a must-have non-negotiable IMO. One of the very few fragrances today that is absolutely 100% worth retail. I think is paid around $250, very happy with the value. I would say even at $400, this is still a good value given its iconic status.

This is absolutely beautiful. This is Gardenia done right and real. In my collection (of my Tuberose white florals) this is the refined more put together fraternal twin sister of Gucci Bloom. And Bloom is no where near so wild like her cousin Do Son EDT (who occasionally lives out of her car) . I wear all three for different occasions, I love them all at different times. I used to nearly exclusively wear Bloom (pink) on the daily. It comforts me reminds me of my grandma, but doesn’t WEAR like it’s my grandmas perfume, just hints at her to me. Makes me feel like a responsible solid human being in the world, who can always do and be better, a comfort to others, a kind soul and it makes me feel beautiful. EL Tuberose Gardenia is the only other perfume I have found (so far) to be exactly in that same lane, but refined a little more. Tuberose Gardenia lacks the spicy/tickley floral note that bloom has, (might be the Rangoon creeper in bloom) and it isn’t fruity in any way, like Grand Bal with the peach note.( I know Grand Bal doesn’t list Tuberose as a note, but I compare it to the tuberoses because it has 3 different white florals that are similar to Tuberose to me. And that peach note softens the florals off in a way only a whisper of peach can ) And there isn’t ANYTHING dirty smelling about EL Tuberose Gardenia like in Do Son. I’m so glad I got this, I blind bought it! First full bottle blind buy and it was total success! I discovered that it was NOT discontinued like many EL sales counter associates have told me, I found out on their website that they sell it, AND THEN I found it NIB on resale for $45! Had to buy, and it’s a love 10/10 Longevity On clothes 10+hours On skin 5-6hours

As another who owes PCTG a review, this is also a good-bye. Lovely.... This is the sort of rich-lady, luxurious fragrance that should be bought in the spray form -- yes, even if this makes you likely to over-spray -- and decanted (recanted?) into one of those beautiful bottles with a bulb -- so that, when you use it before parties, you get the full experience for special occasions. This is the fragrance you wear to the office holiday party to smell festive, warm, and successful, without alarming, or even surprising, anyone. PCTG is both ladylike enough to wear everyday, and womanly. A lady because little to no indole, she is smooth and sweet. Wearing this, if you hug someone, they will be enveloped in its embrace but not overwhelmed. The sillage is assertive -- moderate to heavy -- but not enormous. Clean, clear, fairly linear; she is modern. This is no old lady fragrance. (White Shoulders for our era, perhaps? Less sweet, less complex, more versatile.) Womanly, because more complexity -- not just an after-bath splash -- this is a sensual perfume. I get neroli in the initial blast, then tuberose's middle notes, not its full range. The gardenia is there but for me its almost hiding, peeking out, part of the afterscent. There is a little powder along the way, so if you are not a fan, do sample. And, alas, this does contain synthetics. So, I let my teen daughter sneak it out of my top drawer for a quick spray before she goes out -- as if I can't tell what she's wearing! PCTG is distinctive. And I love it but can't wear it, or other synthetics, anymore. This is one I'll miss.

The name Private Collection brings us to that stupendous chypre of the '70es which at first was so special that only Mrs Estée Lauder could wear it. Almost nothing of that classy scent remains in this creation, but only speaking about ingredients, of course!!! The class, the beauty, the style of that primeval Private Collection is still intact in this declination. What I love the most about this PCTG is the mix between gardenia, jasmine and tuberose, three flowers that I do love and which is so difficult to find together without getting a headache. Here the mix is accomplished very well: you are embraced by the three without being choked as the citrus notes (neroli above all) underneath them are keeping the giant white flowers from hugging you too tightly. Sharpness and sweetness have beautifully melt so the composition does not end up being stingy or causing diabethes. I love it, I find in it hues of Fracas (which is a bit sweeter), hues of Keiko Mecheri Jasmine (which is creamier and with jasmine of course playing the lion's share), hues of Maitre Gantier et Parfumeur Jardin Blanc (which is less green), hues of MGetP Jasmin (which overall is the one I find conceptually more similar to this Estée Lauder creation). Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful indeed. In these starting of autumn it brightens my days a lot. Beautiful, beautiful, much more beautiful than the creation bearing the same name by this same house. Beautiful. Period.

I came little late to the gardenia-tuberose party, it's the only thing I regret. Estee Lauder does not receive the recognition and appraisal they should. Their creations worth much more than they already worth. They're beautiful. So is gardenia-tuberose. They who love true white florals are going to be happy with the scent. If you especially love Diorissimo, you possibly need Gardenia-Tuberose too. For those who love the "idea" of a floral, which is better interpreted in shampooish fruity florals, Gardenia-Tuberose is not a good fit. Overall this is a love from me. The perfume opens with straight up tuberose, the headache inducing variety, but true intense plummy powdery tuberose which after some minutes unfurls into the main scent of gardenia, on which this perfume focuses. Of course, as everybody knows by now, extracting gardenia oil is not succesful, so with the help of the other notes, the scent of gardenia is reconstructed. You get good amounts of lily of the valley here. And a clear gardenia, not clean, CLEAR. There is an earthy note and a well measured soily smell to this gardenia. And that metholated note in the background belonging to tuberose; so tuberose is there, it's not really missing. Metallic, green, truly luminous. It's a floral but not completely revealing like J'adore, there is mystery in the scent that is so womanly. With a vintage vibe, a nod to the classics. A gem Heaven, heaven, heaven!

This is a beautiful scent. I only have a small vial so have used it sparingly & but it is on my Mother's Day wish list! :) This smells like a lush garden full of gardenia's and some wafting jasmine to me. The tuberose is very subtle in my opinion, not the dark sultry over-stimulating version that is used in some other perfumes. (Cough, Fracas). EL perfumes always seem to have a veritable "thumb-print" if you will, to my nose. I can recognize something about them right off the bat, & I enjoy that about them. This has that EL 1970's sort of vibe to my nose...very much like the Original Private Collection, it smells more complicated than the two notes listed in the name of the scent. Could be a perfect Wedding Day scent! I am also smelling a bit of lilac, rose & dark earth, some greenery that replicates moss, & LOVE the bourbon base, which sounds odd if not gross to mix with these notes, but it really does ground the whole mess of florals, being quite necessary to the composition. The dry down has turned a bit sour on my skin, but I am still enjoying it. I feel as though this stayed quite near my skin, and even on this hot Spring day, there was not much silage. There is also a unique similarity between this and the "EL Very Estee" perfume I recently purchased & reviewed. The latter is at a much lower price point, so if you are looking for something similar, may I suggest Very Estee. Cheers! xo

I first bought this late in 2007 when it was first launched, I think I was in Perth on business. They were celebrating the launch by spraying this on test strips for customers at David Jones and I was so enraptured by the fragrance that I didn't hesitate to purchase the large bottle (around $500) there and then...ouch! 10 years later, I have a little left in the bottle, and it smells as utterly beautiful now as it did then, in fact I am going to replace it. The tuberose is absolutely voluptuous and sillage is extreme. I wore this to a business meeting (I had forgotten I had it on) and when my client walked into the room, she said the whole place smelled like a spring garden. I don't think you can do better than that! UPDATE Visited the Estée Lauder outlet store in Sydney today, it's official, Private Collection has been discontinued and they haven't had stock for more than a year. The sales assistant told me the very last bottle of PC had been sold that morning. Not being one to take what's said as set in stone, I repeated my request to the other sales assistant...Turns out she had put a bottle aside for a friend some time ago, and it had never been collected. I bought it, the last bottle of PC Tuberose Gardenia in any Estée Lauder outlet retail store in Sydney...feeling just a little smug and terribly lucky. DJ's still have stock though in some of their stores.

I finally got to try this today and all I can say is~This is GORGEOUS!! Okay if you are not a floral lover just put this in your “Don’t even try it.” pile. Because this is exactly like putting your face into a bouquet of flowers. It’s fresh cut narcotic florals robust enough to make you dizzy. Something about this reminds me of my childhood. I think it just reminds me of smelling all the flowers in my Grandmother’s yard. I’m getting a lot of Gardenia and Lilac from this. I have a Lilac tree growing in my yard and this fragrance smells just like it. There is also the Gardenia, Tuberose, and Lily of course but Lilac is a VERY strong flower. It’s too much for many people. I put 2 Lilac flowers in a vase alone and you can smell them all over the house. I’m also getting a lot of Lily which is another strong flower. I’m a floral junkie so I really love this heady stuff, but if it was any stronger then it might be too much even for me. There really aren’t any other notes in this besides flowers and a tiny bit of vanilla down at the bottom which is just fine with me. The sillage and longevity on this are fantastic. Those two factors make the price tag much more reasonable IMO. Two sprays are all you need to smell beautiful for 8 to 10 hours.This is going straight to the top on my next perfume splurge list.

Hands down the *most* realistic gardenia fragrance ever invented. I bought a gardenia plant last summer, which died fast but made a lasting impression; this fragrance literally smells like the flower when it's in full bloom. Nothing in the advertising campaign or the scent profile suggests that this is a unisex fragrance. I'm a guy, but who gives a damn? I don't, obviously ;) (I saw some on here compared Tuberose Gardenia to Diptyque's Do Son. I own both. They're only similar in their pristine, slightly "aquatic* floral character; TG is much more indolic in the drydown and the tuberose is all but eclipsed by the gardenia accord, which I approve. I imagine that tuberose is listed only because they reconstituted the scent of gardenia through tuberose) EDIT: After two months, my love for Tuberose Gardenia is still going strong. But I also discovered another photorealistic gardenia scent, except that it's not a perfume this time, but a candle. It's Frederic Malle's Un Gardenia La Nuit. The smell is absolutely stunning, more creamy / full-dimensional than Tuberose Gardenia. The perfumer is, unsurprisingly, Dominique Ropion. Too bad alas that it's a candle, not a perfume, otherwise I would have purchased it immediately.

Now I finally get to review something that impressed me, and I will be ordering a full size bottle online since they did not have one at the Estee Lauder counter at Macy's. Private Collection Tuberose/Gardenia is a beautiful fully feminine perfume. It opens w/ a distinct lilac and rosewood. So unique that even my husband was impressed and he is not a white floral lover. The lilac was gently done and pitch perfect the rosewood was a true and beautifully fragrant rosewood. As those notes fade a bit this becomes a soft, lush and perfect gardenia scent. There is a haunting and captivating quality to this scent, it is romantic, feminine, delicate and still heady and lush. I can picture a woman who is wearing an all white flowing gown w/ a single gardenia in her hair. She moves w/ grace and elegance. A woman who wears this perfume is timeless, ageless. The years do not matter, she could be a young woman of 20 or an older woman of 80. This is a beautiful perfume for any woman of any age. If you love white florals like I do and think I don't need another one (and I thought that) give Private Collection Tuberose/Gardenia a try. I think it will surprise you, it did me.

Very pretty fragrance. This reminds me a little of the original, flowery Estee Lauder Beautiful (the current Beautiful is NOT the same) but this is more dainty. The tuberose is very pretty and does not stand in front or overwhelm. I think Lauder could have called this Private Collection "Gardenia Tuberose" probably because the tuberose is not the fatty, creamy type. It's a more green, gardenia-scented tuberose. The jasmine is also very pretty & blends well. This is so ladylike & clean. No patchouli nastiness, no musk, no sandalwood, no fruity sweets. Just fresh and pretty white flowers. I can't stop smelling my wrist when I wear this. It lifts my mood & makes me think of sunny days. I think this fragrance works for women of many ages & for any occasion; it's a classic & feminine fragrance. I feel comfortable wearing this with jeans & all dressed up for an evening out. This is nothing like the tuberose powerhouse "Fracas" & nothing like "Truth or Dare". Fracas has a much creamier tuberose/TOD has creamy but green notes & they both have base notes that stand out; musk & amber. All variations on the tuberose, one of my favorite scents.

This is a like for me, not a love. I think I get a bit too much carnation. It’s either carnation or something else that throws me off. I like Aerin Tuberose Le Jour and Le Soir better, which seem more opulent and lush. Update: 09/07/2023: I wore it again today. This, to my nose, is not animalic or indolic flowers, which is great. I like clean white florals. I still wish the carnation note were a bit muted, though the red flower may be what is keeping the animalic note at bay. This perfume is of outstanding quality. I sprayed once on my wrist. Because I was eating dinner that clashed with the perfume, I washed my wrist twice during the course of the dinner. But I can still smell the scent even an hour after finishing dinner and having washed off using Dawn dish soap. Amazing. My partner really likes this. 😘 Update: 04/03/2025 After not wearing this for a year and a half, I sprayed this again a few times. Oh my goodness, it’s exquisite. Before the carnation note bothered me, but I think that is a necessary accord to make it more complex and beautiful, Thus is gorgeous. And I love love.

Oh, I love this perfume. Gorgeous, lush, ultra-feminine and somehow *round* in shape. Although it's called 'Tuberose Gardenia', for me the first powerful hit is gardenia, rather than tuberose. Some gardenia fragrances can be overpoweringly heavy, or sickly sweet, but this one is rich but light; the tuberose kicks in soon after, distinct from the gardenia and filling out the top end. It also has (on me) a hint of peach and bright white flowers. Neroli is very present in the middle notes, and the dry down goes toward a floral vanilla without ever becoming too sweet. It didn't last terribly long on my skin, so I ended up spraying some on my shirt, where it lasted through a very hot and sweaty day as well as two hours on a train. My BFF got a bottle from her mother as a gift, and I'm trying to figure out a way to wheedle it off of her, as the perfume isn't cheap (my review is based on 'borrowing' some of the BFF's!). But well worth every penny if you like being transported to a tropical beach with swaying palm trees. Just beautiful.

This must be my favorite perfume ever. I used to wear it as a going out perfume on spring, and when my bottle was empty and I went to repurchase, I was devastated to find out it was discontinued. I quickly replaced it with Gucci Bloom, just to get my tuberose fix, but sadly it's not even close to this. This is so much brighter. It's a classy elegant white flower perfume, an absolute head turner. I understand the comparison, but I find this brighter, more eclectic and classy, but still out there like a Debussy piece for piano. Bloom is darker, more subtle, a bit more generic, sweeter and esoteric, just like an early Lana Del Rey song. I will have to quote another review I read about another perfume. "They always discontinue the good ones" PS: Silage was also pretty strong without being overpowering or offensive. Gardenia was prominent and blended so smoothly with the tuberose. If it was a woman it would be a well mannered diva in the 90s dressed in white. I repeat, one of the most beautiful scents I've ever come across.

I don't know if I should be announcing this but I have found a seller on EBay that makes a dupe for this fragrance that is spot on...for about $11 an ounce. One of my good friends wears this fragrance exclusively, the real deal by EL. When I admired it so and she told me how much she paid for it, my jaw hit the ground× Really EL???? I have been using this dupemaster on EBay for quite some time. She has been spot on with quite a few scents I adore but can either no longer find or are way beyond my price range. PM me and I will give you her seller name. She simply calls her dupe for EL's Tuberose Gardenia...Our Version of Tuberose Gardenia. And she makes it in quite a few formulas...perfume oil roll on...lotion...dusting powder (both talc and talc free)...shower gel...home/linen fragrance spray...tart melts...and the list goes on. I am using the body/hand lotion as I write this and it's indescribable, lovely scent is just wafting around the room, and I have just a bit rubbed into my hands. This is some potent stuff.

Long ago, wandering the fragrance section of The Bay in downtown Toronto, I spritzed this on myself out of idle curiosity, and was immediately blown away by how utterly gorgeous it smelled. I asked the price, and the saleswoman informed me that she was actually out of bottles, and should not have displayed the tester. Should I steal the tester, I thought? No, the incredible sillage of this gorgeous, round, waxy white floral would have given the police an easy trail to follow. At home, I looked up the price, thinking I might order a bottle online, and very quickly determined I wasn't rich enough. Until today, two years later, when quarantine caused me to lose my mind! I found a discounted bottle on eBay, and though it still cost way, way more than I should have spent, I couldn't resist. This is simply stunning. It doesn't progress much from initial spray to fading about 10 hours later. However, during that time it is a perfect cloud of uncomplicated, rich-smelling loveliness.

Nowadays I am truly upset because of the reformulations, since I feel like they put an end to the glorious art of perfume en masse. I don't even feel like writing a review, but I returned for this. I believe my bottle dates to 2012 or something (at the latest), but the juice is still true to it's core... Estee Lauder's Tuberose Gardenia is almost making me cry tonight, because it is so painstakingly beautiful... It reminds me of lost times. It shines with such a delicate femininity and grace. It oozes such a comforting freshness which puts me instantly at ease. I discover the orange blossom and neroli merging with the gardenia like never before. A very soft tuberose adds the final touch to the most elegant citrus maybe. And for the first time ever, the bourbon vanilla is detectable to my senses; giving such an innocent sweetness to the composition. I am ran out of words to describe the sensation, I was so thirsty for something this beautiful. I feel thankful.

This is such a Beautiful Gardenia Tuberose scent . Lifts the mood up to higher plaises ;) This is perfect for spring time , It has a warm almost blanket kind of feal on my skin , Lingers and swirls around me when i move around and such a people pleaser . I have had sevral people stoping and sniff in the air when i pases and they all goes .mmmm what a divine scent . I must edmit i have been a bit scared of tuberose and gardenia in the past thinking it did not fit me . But luckely that time has past. Now i can wear this proud and with joy . I would call this a young scent . Many tuberose gardenia scents i feal are for mature style only , But this is for as slightly younger audiense aswell,( not to say that this can only be worn by a specific age..) To me the florals has a almost fruity touch aswell. it isent screachy or cold to green or to much of anything , its just perfect.

I've bought Estee Lauder Tuberose Gardenia, because I was looking for less expensive and longer lasting alternative for Chanel Les Exclusifs Gardenia (EDT or EDP). I was lucky to get 75 ml for the price of 30ml. Now I can say it is not similar to Chanel, which is softer, fruitier and seems more refined to my nose. To me EL is a straightforward GARDENIA... powerful, slightly headache inducing. It almost does not change on me and lasts long on skin and even loner on clothes. I can smell very little of other notes: tuberose of course and a little bit of lilac. So to me this perfume is more close to Elizabeth Taylor Gardenia (minus some very "green" base notes in the latter). I am keeping both for now and probably will use them a lot this summer, but sadly none of them is a substitute to Chanel Les Exclusifs Gardenia. All three "tales of gardenia" are unique and beautiful.

A gem. When you're strolling in summer evening, you catch a strong scent of flowers in the air... Tuberose Gardenia smells exactly like that. On my skin, it's more like Gardenia Neroli. Tuberose is there, but I get more Neroli. What amazes me is that this stays White Floral from the top to dry down. Many other white floral frag I know loses the floral character once they dry down and then become it's base note, like Sandalwood, Vanilla, Musk etc... But this one drys down as naturalistic flowers! How did the perfumer do it? I've got Michael Kors by Michael Kors. Tuberose Gardenia is similar to it, but Michael Kor is more Tuberose-y, yet less opulent. *Edit* I found out that I get more Tuberose in cooler, less humid environment. Ladies in cooler country can disregard my 'Gardenia Neroli' notion above. Truely pure and lovely either way, though.

Words cannot say how much I love Tuberose Gardenia. It really is the most perfect example of what a white floral perfume should be. It's rich, deep, seductive, and so sensuous and tactile you can almost touch the tuberose and gardenia and feel their velvety softness. I'm fortunate to own a small bottle that I received as a gift many years ago. Most of it is still full because it really packs a punch as far as performance goes, and I rarely wear it because it feels too special to wear every day. But today I say to hell with that! I'm going to wear it whenever I like regardless of if there is an occasion or not. Life is too short to not make everyday a special day. Besides, they now released this again, and though it might not be as special as this, at least there will be something there to remind me when it is gone.

One of the most beautiful floral fragrances ever created. Tuberose fragrances are a love-it-or-hate-it for me and this particular one I love. The key I guess is balancing the tuberose with the gardenia and the other florals, otherwise tuberose can become domineering. The vanilla is subtle but it gives a slight softness and refines the scent. This fragrance is warm, a bit tropical, feminine, extremely sexy. I'd say this would suit age 35+. I don't agree with the Gucci Bloom resemblance- I mean it's similar in that they both have tuberose (I can see how to the untrained nose they might be similar as it's a strong note). If you're a fragrance-head (ie. someone who spends time on Fragrantica regularly), Gucci Bloom is the oversimplified, one-dimensional version of this. This has much more depth and beauty.

I was out shopping today and stopped by the Estee Lauder counter to smell Private Collection Tuberose and Gardenia. After spraying a generous amount on one of my arms I went out shopping and noticed the gardenia was very prominent. About half an hour later jasmine also became noticeable but I found myself smelling my wrist over and over because there was something else familiar in this scent. Then it hit me, under this big, lush white floral bouquet I smelled remnants of the original Private Collection. I do adore Private Collection, but I also love gardenia and jasmine too, this is everything in one combo collection, and wow what a winner! The notes all blend nicely together into a beautifully, rich fragrance, and the florals stay fresh, moist and dewy throughout the dry down. Just glorious!

Ok, I’ve found the best good-girl white floral. Supposedly this is a realistic gardenia, which is a very difficult floral note to reconstruct. Not having smelled a real gardenia since I was a kid, I can’t speak to the realism, but damn, it’s beautiful. There’s the familiar swoony summer haze of white flowers — tuberose, gardenia, and for me a lot of orange blossom too — cut with a stemmy, woody greenness and a mushroom note. This one has really strong sillage; I normally don’t smell perfume floating a foot away from my wrists, but I do this time. It lasts a good 12 or more hours, too. If Fracas is bubblegum pink, and Carnal Flower is creamy-coconutty, Tuberose Gardenia is pure white and airy. It’s dignified. Cool and collected. A still summer afternoon wandering through a hedge labyrinth.

This. This is why I sniff all new EL releases. Yes, I realize that Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia was released in 2007; it just took me a while to write the review. PCTG opens with grapy jasmine, green tuberose, and touch of menthol. The jasmine slowly subsides to expose the wonderful tuberose found in La Chasse aux Papillons by L`Artisan Parfumeur—it’s a warm and sunny meadow full of gentle breezes, green grass, and flowers. Next, the tuberose takes a bow and allows the gardenia to take center stage. Clap. Clap. Clap. Nicely done. This is one of the most realistic gardenias I’ve sniffed and it sticks around for a while! In fact, the lactonic gardenia sticks around well into the buttery drydown. 4.5/5 One of my favorite offerings from the EL lineup.

Found an unopened bottle on eBay for original retail price and quickly blind bought it as they’re now going for over $300. The opening packs a mentholated PUNCH that I’m obsessed with. That quickly fades into a lightly spiced tuberose melded with a creamy gardenia. It’s gorgeous and I can see why it’s garnered such a devoted fan base. It’s green, woody and mushroomy underneath a dense and indolic white floral bouquet... yet it’s not generic. It never gets soapy, which is what I appreciate most. In fact the dry down is probably my favorite part... once the spice fades out it makes for a gorgeous skin scent without being powdery. It’s not the most exciting ... but it’s definitely high quality and I’ll reach for it when I want to smell “heavenly”.

After searching high and low for a realistic gardenia fragrance, I was thrilled to discover Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia! Such a clean, fresh, linear composition. Similar to Fracas--minus the initial blast of aldehydes. I've fallen madly in love with Tuberose Gardenia! Sillage is moderate & longevity is far above average (7+hours)--can still smell this after several hours on the beach. It seems that perspiration "reactivates" this juice!! LOVE the versatility of Tuberose Gardenia--perfect for the office or evening wear! A five star stunner! It is no surprise that Luca Turin, biophysicist and perfume critic extraordinaire, gave Tuberose Gardenia one of his very rare five-star ratings :-) Go out and get yourself a bottle of this beauty!

wearing this again for the first time in 7+ years and I’d forgotten how DROP-DEAD GORGEOUS it is. if you love floral fragrances, and enjoy white tubey-gardenias in particular, this one is top 1-2 in the world. it’s starts off mentholated but that aspect burns off to become a warm simmering sultry floral like no other. Enchanting. Transfixing. Excellent longevity & good sillage. 10/10. ps: in case it satisfies curiosity my top favorite white florals in addition to this, are: FM Carnal Flower, LL Lys 41, Parfumerie Generale Tubereuse Couture, AG Songes EDP and VCA California Reverie (poor longevity on the VCA though). But I’d put this as tied at #1 spot with Carnal Flower. Gucci Bloom and others being compared to this are not nearly as good.

Hooray! I received a full sized bottle of this gem for Mother's Day today. I wore it on the back of my neck and went out to do a bit of work in the garden. The sun & my efforts warmed up the scent. I love it. The white florals don't strangle or choke out the other notes at all. It is a very beautiful scent that smells like a tropical garden & money all at the same time. You get a much "richer" smell than what you pay for with this. If you are on the fence, give it a try...I decided 2 years ago to force myself out of my "gourmand & vanilla's only" niche I was stuck in & branch out to white florals first. I've enjoyed most of them very much & get so many more compliments on my scents now. They must work with my chemistry. Cheers!

I cannot say enough great things about this AMAZING - UNIQUE - VERY WHITE FLORAL - SPECTACULAR FRAGRANCE !!! it is beyond special - gorgeous unique smell - and if you are lucky - and it works with your chemistry - you will receive compliments and people asking you constantly what you are wearing DO NOT tell them! it keeps this a special fragrance - and keeps the masses from wearing it - and ruining it's exclusivity I have been wearing this for 15+ years! another long standing product I was wearing when I discovered this was the ORIGINAL Michael Kors - and that is still in my collection today - BUT - my favorite today - and will ALWAYS be - Estee Lauder PRIVATE COLLECTION TUBEROSE GARDENIA!!! try it - you will not regret it!!!

Somewhat confused. I just called Estee Lauder website, and they said Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia has NOT been discontinued. One of the reviews on their site said their original TG creme had been replaced with a body lotion/moisturizer.... At any rate, I love EL Tuberose Gardenia! Also a request to other reviewers to compare/contrast other gardenia perfumes. In addition to EL Tuberose Gardenia, I'm currently trying Isabey Gardenia, Tom Ford Velvet Gardenia, and I have a tiny decant of the infamous Jar Jardenia. The last sadly being an enormous mushroom accord with a faint gardenia note, for those of you wondering. (I prefer the proportions to be just the opposite.) Probably just as well, since it is soooo expensive.

I adore this perfume! It's such a class act and it is mature smelling, but at the same time not old lady. I could imagine anyone from about 26 or 27 and up wearing this fragrance. It lasts very long as well and has quite a long trail and sillage. I can smell a hint of woodiness at the top and a tiny touch of the neroli there too. But the heart notes are really where this perfume shines. As the name would suggest, I mainly get tuberose and gardenia here with a touch of jasmine. I don't really smell the base notes in it. Maybe the tiniest bit of vanilla? But yes it's a beast of a fragrance and very animalic and slightly indolic, but in the most feminine way. I could imagine it being a very sexy 3rd date fragrance! Wink wink 😉

A few years ago I received a sample of this from the EL counter and saved up like mad to buy the smallest bottle. The first time I wore it I had an invitation to a lunch garden party. It was a mild sunny day in October and I was wearing a linen dress. Perfect! So many people asked me about the fragrance and even the taxi driver told me I smelt like his wife! From then on I was very careful to use just a tiny spritz. The sillage is amazing and would probably knock someone out on a hot summer's day. I love wearing this in Spring and early Autumn; it is a crisp and peppery floral that last all day long on me. Like many EL fragrances I loved in the past (White Linen, Private Collection, Alliage) this one is not at all shy!

This perfume is beautiful. My mom only likes two perfumes: Ralph Lauren Blue and Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia. Of the two, her signature scent is this one and I can easily see why. It smells unapologetically high class. Aerin Lauder created a perfume that is pure white floral; you don't get any sense of musk or powder which would cheapen it. I had a bottle back in college, this scent gets noticed by friends, classmates, TAs, literally everyone. You get literally chased around with noses sniffing you. When I wear this perfume, I feel a little bit pretentious or boujee because I feel like I'm not classy enough. But it is perfect for ladies that are successful/intelligent/polished/confident like my mama.

This is hands down the most realistic non-cloying tuberose/gardenia I have ever smelled. At first spray you get smacked with lilac heavy. But then it softens and dries down to this creamy, tropical, heaven sent, neroli, tuberose, gardenia and jasmine combo that are out of this world. The vanilla must be what makes it seem like every floral was dipped in honey. I absolutely love it. I can smell this for hours after spraying and I get compliments where ever I go. I will always repurchase. To me, it is like a island holiday in a bottle, so its very much a summer sent. Honestly, I gate keep this fragrance. I see some people are not wowed by it but it must be their nose or chemistry. On me, it smells divine.

I am a tuberose fanatic. Last week, I finally bought a sample of EL's offering. Oh, my. This is the closest I have found to the actual scent of a tuberose flower. I haven't smelled one in years, but this is very near to what I remember smelling in my mother's garden. Now I'm playing with the idea of actually growing some tuberoses in a very warm, sheltered spot in my Maryland garden - where they might just survive the winter with protection. I need something as a reference point! Estee Lauder's PC Tuberose Gardenia is exquisite - it smells like the expensive fragrance that it is. If you like white flowers, and don't associate them with funerals, this is for you.

Very similar to both Carnal Flower and Moon Bloom, but without the spiciness of Moon Bloom and with more of the slightly menthol edge of CF. Thankfully the gardenia stays in the background, as that has a tendency to give me a headache. Unlike CF, which vanishes from my skin within an hour or so, this has amazing staying power, and holds a decent sillage too. It's smoothly blended and classy, definitely a perfume for a high class evening out; a gala or ball or fancy dinner. I love it, however I prefer Moon Bloom for the white pepper spice it contains so that's my full bottle choice for a tuberose frag, but this is a very close second.

I love this. I've had my bottle for more than a year and freely admit to hoarding it jealously. PCTG is the only white floral I have in my collection, and honestly, it's the only one I need. The gardenia is sublime, in the truest sense of the word. It is achingly beautiful. After the gardenia fades, a creamy, lush white floral composition takes over. I can't detect the individual flowers at this point, but it is still gorgeous. I do wish the longevity was better. I get about 4 hours before it disappears completely, but my skin notoriously eats fragrances. I don't wear it often, but when I'm in the mood, simply nothing else will do.

Between this and Chanel Gardenia, I am in heaven. This one has a little more depth to it-very much a scent you could wear at night, by candle light, and feel sensuous and alluring. Chanel Gardenia is absolutely gorgeous too, and light enough to wear all day. There is no mistaking what flowers are used. I do smell the tuberose in Private Collection-I think that is what gives it it's depth. I spent the last 2 years searching for the perfect tuberose/ gardenia perfume, and I ended up with quite a few winners. Including Fracas, Elie Saab, and a tiny bottle of a vintage Jungle Gardenia from the early 1970's. They have come a long way.

This is my absolute favorite perfume of all time! My mom gave me a sample of it years ago and I fell in love. When I smell it, I think of summer nights on the Mediterranean. It gives me butterflies in my stomach! Such a gorgeous fragrance. I wear it only in the heat of summer. Maybe it's just me (I love summer and I love feeling warm air on my body) but I feel like it just can't release its true beauty when it doesn't get the room to breathe. This is the perfume that made me think that I like big white florals, but actually I can't find any others that compare. This is such a transcendental experience!

This is beautiful. Although sweet, and not overly so, it is not candy-ish. There is nothing cheap smelling about this perfume at all. It is just classy, bright, and happy. Yet, I could easily wear this on a summer evening special night. It is fitting for a classy, charming, sophisticated woman who does not take herself too seriously - very Audrey or Katherine Hepburn. Longevity: 6-8 hrs Projection: 1 spray and it wafts gently, complimented For whom and when: for warmer weather, day or night, if you're looking for understated sophistication few else will be wearing

Absolutely adore this one, creamy gardenia at its very best, tuberose takes very much secondary role, which is how I like it. It's got longevity , the only perfume to go past the 4 hour mark on me ever, the sillage is just right, it cheers up my senses and uplifts my mood. Neither too sweet, nor too green, amazing balance. Classy floral, with presence but not attitude, stylish, serene, gives you a waft now and again and catches you unaware. I think this will be the gold standard in regards to gardenia. I will always have a back up of this, expensive but worth it!

This was a blind buy according to notes to replace Marc Jacobs gardenia.It didnt.First 10 mins is a bit too much, then it gets creamier and in an hour it smells extactly like the gardenias in my mothers house. I love it.I dont smell lilac at all just a bit tuberose and creamier gardenia.But the best part is the carnation note. I never had a perfume with carnations in it.Or rather I never searched for one before.Lasts all day on me. The only con is that burning feeling that I have with all Estee Lauder fragrances when I spray directly on skin.

I've smelled many so-called gardenia scents, and this is one of my favourites. TG is heady, sweet, and not for the faint-hearted! Fortunately the tuberose doesn't stand out too much. Like in some preceding comments I would agree that: as opposed to being a 'warm' and inviting floral, TG feels cold and clinical. This is not necessarily a bad thing at all, just more of a mood/interpretation. TG is hence probably not suited to all occassions! However, it is beautiful non-the-less. Performance is great. A must try for gardenia fans.

Amazing gardenia perfume. I had been searching for a gardenia perfume that actually smells good with my body chemistry and this is it! Maybe it has to do with the tuberose rounding out the scent, or the high quality of Estée Lauder fragrances. I just love this. I feel that it would be best in warm weather, day or night. This is a powerful, confident vibe to be sure. If you don’t want to draw attention to yourself, stay away from this. But I think it’s a stunning fragrance, and I’m so glad I found a gardenia scent that I love.
