Pure White Linen

It would be difficult for me to name my signature scent because I wear different perfume depending on the weather, an occasion, my mood, and even color of my clothes. But this comes as close to a signature scent as I could ever get. I wouldn't want to be without this perfume, since I'd wear it in warm or cool (where I live there's no extremely hot or cold), day and night. In the times I want to not offend, I apply it lightly, in the times I want to stand out, I apply a little more. This fragrance is my friend with great silage and lasting power. Actually, when I said that I'd wear it day and night, I meant that very often I put it on in the morning and it will stay until the evening, and very rarely do I want to wash it off for a more distinctly evening wear because I love the drydown. As a matter of fact, I adore all stages of this perfume, from the top notes to the drydown. I noticed that I am more likely to get a distinct smell of top fruity notes in colder weather, and they stay longer too. The floral heart makes me feel like a fairy who lives in a garden where it is forever May (maybe April in a more continental climate!). I open a secret door, close my eyes, breathe in, and all of a sudden I am in a place where all flowers bloom at once. I cannot detect individual flower notes -- it's an air where all flowers are blooming at once, fresh, fragrant and dewy. The drydown tames down the heart, but remains floral and even more fresh and airy. If this is what heliotrope smells like, I am a fan! At this point I start to experience this perfume as pure white color, as a soft and glossy white satin gown wrapping my shoulders and making a quiet shsh with every move I make. This smell is mild but distinct, and it lasts. And it lasts. And it lasts. This is the smell for a girl who one day got married in a satin dress and a bouquet of white roses and treasures this day as the happiest in her life. And here's an almost inevitable bit: a comparison with original White Linen. I already mentioned that Pure White Linen is truly white to me, and so is the original White Linen. But the white color has so many shades, and these perfumes are very different color white as well as texture. The original White Linen is white with a tint of greenish and yellow, much like linen cloth is, and more choppy in texture, like a linen cloth. And this linen cloth is seriously starched! Pure White Linen is a smooth satin, and the white color has a light hint of blueish in it -- like driven snow in the bright sunlight, like my wedding dress, like the walls in my house on the coast, like the inside of the Pure White Linen box. And by the time you trace the white embossed line on the box, you'll be enchanted into pure white understated elegance!

Crispy, fresh and glacial, Pure White Linen is perfect for warm, humid weather, its a far cry from the usual citrus and aquatic summer fragrances that are around. PWL opens with a sharp, green, ozonic blast, according to Estee Lauder's website, this has a "Cool fresh air accord" which may be what I can detect on the initial opening which melds with the dewy green notes, the ozonic feeling stays on my skin throughout wear, the green notes mellow out and gentle floral notes start to emerge; red tulip and white freesia to be specific, then the cedarwood peaks out towards the end of the drydown and rounds off the ozonic and floral notes which helps to ground and add depth to the airy accords. To me, the linen part of the name, is more of a texture than a scent, its the olfactive interpretation of how a freshly washed, line dried linen shirt feels against your skin during the hot weather, its fresh, its cool, its effortless to wear, I'll even go as far to say its great for year round wear. If you like shower fresh scents, are a fan of DKNY Women and especially if you're a fan of the sadly discontinued A Scent by Issey Miyake, this may be worth a try, it has the same ozonic greeness that A Scent has and a similar cool ozonic feeling as DKNY, simply wonderful!

Like other reviewers, I find no resemblance to White Linen in PWL. I wore White Linen and someone gifted a huge bottle of PWL to me by mistake or I would never have tried it. I disliked it - the citrus and gardenia were just too sharp, too much, and it didn’t work with my chemistry. Four hours in and it smelled as it did when first applied - nothing developed. The strength and longevity were certainly impressive, though! I tried it a few times a year (this bottle is at least twelve years old) with the same result - until today. I’m amazed by how beautiful it is! I reveled in it all day at work. Maybe I had to learn how to detect the notes and how to appreciate it, and my chemistry may have changed, too. This is not light, clean, or airy on me. It is a little heavy - the patchouli and cedar maybe, keeping it grounded. I applied it fourteen hours ago and my daughter just came home and told me I smell good. To me Pure White Linen is quite a different scent, but my experience with florals is limited. Now that I’ve fallen in love with it, I see that it’s discontinued. Punishment for not recognizing what a treasure it is sooner!

Having experimented with loud and divisive perfumes over recent weeks, I blind-bought a bottle of this and it was like a hug. Just so comforting and classic! Perhaps that is where my heart truly lies. This is a really delicate and elegant fragrance, but fresh and sweet enough that it can be worn by any age. It smells clean without smelling soapy (a personal dislike) and also evokes imagery of warm sunshine hitting your shoulders on that first hot day of the year. I adore the subtle floral notes in here - particularly the honeysuckle, which is another personal favourite. It is a proper skin scent - it stays close to you but, like Chanel Beige, smells as though it has been your scent your whole adult life. This is a class act - feminine, classy, understated, and - in my view - a safe blind buy. This will become one of my staples.

Wore this today for the first time. It's about 75F and sunny here after a late spring, so I was in the mood for light and floral. Pure White Linen is gorgeous! To be certain, I don't find much of a similarity to the original White Linen. To my nose, it smells very much like lily of the valley, jasmine, and tulip (what one thinks of, they don't really have much of a scent), with a faint whiff of juicy berry. Very fresh, very springy. It's a departure from my typical loves - L'Heure Bleue, Mitsouko, Vraie Blond. But it was just what I needed today. It will be lovely in the coming months, along with my summer stand-bys White Linen, SSS Jour Ensoleille, and SSS Leiu de Reves.

This is the second sample from Estee Lauder that I have gotten of Pure White Linen and I am liking it - the first one had me on the fence about it. It seems to have nothing to do with the original White Linen which is a fragrance that I had and I couldn't abide and used it to spray into my kitchen trash can. At least found a use for it. This Pure White Linen is a gem of flowers especially the lovely whites like gardenia and tuberose (yummy) and has good lasting power. I keep smelling my wrists and smiling....not many perfumes have that effect on me. :-) p.s. It reminds me of Pleasures another of EL's fragrances that I like.

Love this fragrance! So fresh, clean, green, and floral in the best sense of the world. The honeysuckle, heliotrope, freesia, tuberose, grapefruit and apple combination create a garden fresh scent that will sweep you away!! I hope Estee Lauder never takes Pure White Linen off the market. It really doesn't have the DNA of the original White Linen. It's its own scent and it's very original. I can't compare it to anything else. And as always, it has that unmistakable Estee Lauder quality. Pure White Linen is delicious and captivating. A wonderful addition to my collection!

This perfume is aptly named. It really does remind me of freshly laundered sheets that have been hung out to dry in the sun. This isn’t as light as other more modern, citrusy, summertime perfumes like D&G’s Light Blue but neither does it feel too heavy. The longevity is also excellent lasting about 8 hours on me. I have worn this perfume for several years now and I can’t see myself ever becoming tired of it. This is definitely my summer, signature scent.

Beautifully clean, stunningly sterile fragrance. The seductive and slightly animalic bit has been striped off the original White Linen. Any over-sensual olfactory memories of yours have been deducted without your permission, and you've got a very politically correct pleasant scent... Nothing wrong with that... Everything is right. Soft, sweet and malleable. ATM I am sterile of any ideas and convictions, so it suits me just right. I love it.

This one is superlative in its class. Its tart citrus cuts through hot and humid without a trace of laundry shrill and lingers with no cloying or headache note. Tulip softens the grapefruit edge with a non-ozonic spring flower vibe. There is no cheap chemical drydown musk to ruin it. Very high quality for its price - compared to more expensive cologne options, it's an ideal summer fragrance.

I enjoy the original White Linen on others, but have always found it a bit harsh on me. Pure White Linen has a similar "clean" vibe to the original, but with its edges softened by the fruity notes. This scent plays perfectly on a hot, muggy day (such as the one we're having today) - not at all cloying, but fresh, clean and just sweet enough. I am thoroughly enjoying it.

Out of the shower smell, this smells expensive gardenia, floraly clean scent. I like it, I received it as a gift. It's such a pleasent smell, I put this out of the shower while I'm putting my clothes on, delicate flowers and air, I breathe this fragrance, I could swim in pure white linen!!

My first time trying this & love it. It's not too sweet, floral or woodsy. It is a happy medium. I swear I smell pepper. It's not strong or offensive (just my nose).I have the EDT & EDP. This fragrance does not seem to last long on me. Must be my chemistry. I do love this perfume!

Loved this perfume. Used at a freshener for the livingroom only though. Generally not a fan of estee Lauder parfumes. But this one is beautiful. Just not my style for wearing.

this smells clean but expensive. I love the original. But sometimes I like this more. the grapefruit. I think that is what does it. Who doesn't want to smell clean and rich?

This to me has nothing to do with the original White Linen..This one is very fresh, clean, ethereal and soft skin scent..Great at any temperature. Love the bottle.

Smells like love...and 'beautifulness'

This is the version that approaches the ideal of the feminist perfume that Estée tried with W.L.. It is not a total perfection, because yes, unlike the original one, it has the sobriety and verticality of a perfume for strong women, but its missing something that paradoxically the original version have: power, and no, I'm not talking about transmission power, because yes, the original one bends you anyway, but this one also have that part, by power I mean that vibe of coldness and esteem that a feminist perfume conveys. For example, Safra C. is the same powerful human wearing a 90's power suit but also in a cardigan and a pair of pants, and her perfumes compliment her power in both cases because of the smell of the "coat of arms" it's that feeling that makes us say at first smell that it's an elegant perfume, with spicy cold notes. This fragrance has the spicy-cold but is missing the elegance part, although yes it is clean, fine, refined, yet it does not have that elegance. I honestly don't know where Estée went wrong with this line, in the original I know, that honey and that benzoin insufficiently controlled and unprocessed, at this one, I sincerely don't know what is missing or what is to much...It is definitely a wearable perfume, a strong career woman can approach it and not make a mistake, but it will never be her signature because it will not be able to fully project her aura. I find it really funny how it is among the few perfumes with tulips note, which is considered the flower of feminists, for the towering symbol and at the same time for the elegance and refinement of the clean smell and yet, it does not reach that threshold, while other perfumes that do not have this note define "la dame féministe". Strange. It's a good perfume, ladies, but if you're looking for a strong feminist signature, no, it's not, it's more of a clean holiday daytime scent. Honestly, I have a bottle for a few years, I haven't finished it yet and the only time I reach for it is when, after I have guests or came from a visit in the afternoon on a weekend or a national holiday, I relax by taking a short shower before watching a movie, that's when I sometimes feel like using this perfume, but I don't leave it overnight, usually after the evening bath it is replaced with something else, soo... it's good to have in your wardrobe but it isn't a fireworks.

To start with I do not use any other scented products besides my perfume. Fragrance free laundry detergent, soap, lotion, etc. This works perfectly for me because it really does remind me of scented laundry detergent and body wash. It will make you smell like the cleanest, crispest, most serious and professional gal out there. Great for work, for travel, for not wishing to offend with your perfume, because no one will guess that your fragrance is actually a fragrance. For your starched button down shirt and khaki dress skirt days with sensible shoes. Or maybe a little dressed down from that, but you get the picture. I feel bad wearing my hair loose and curly when I have this on. I feel like everything about me needs to be flat ironed. Truthfully I am a little disappointed in this fragrance. With a beautiful list of floral notes: tulip, honeysuckle, gardenia, tuberse, jasmine, et al, I wish this was more of a true flower garden, but it's not. I do like this but it wasn't what I was expecting at all--it's more like a synthetic garden of flower notes that live in your Spring Fresh laundry detergent.

Starts off very green and celery like on me which I wasn't too keen on at first (sort of like Gucci Envy which I loathe)green scents just don't work well on me. However the good news is the green-ness only lasts a couple of minutes and you are soon rewarded with a fresh, crisp green apple/freesia scent on a woody base. Very clean and airy perfect for hot weather. I do miss the soft apricot that the now discontinued white linen breeze had and feel it would have been good in this version too. To me this is the only flanker in the white linen collection that truly captures the original - the classic white linen is definitely at the base of this scent, it has just been given a modern makeover and is fresher and easier to wear. I do get the impression of Nivea cream as other have mentioned, maybe the soft clean soapiness and a lilacy note is responsible for this? Glad I gave it a go. Pleasant but just nothing special.

Having known the original White Linen and also wearing Pure White Linen in the past, I can tell that the latter is a highly skillful example of a perfect remaster and modernization. If the original White Linen was created during this time, this is definitely how it would smell like. The crisp and clear notes of tulip were divine, and jasmine and gardenia added further charm to the overall composition. I also have to note out some beautiful yet subtle pear and apple that gave Pure White Linen extra dimension and reduced some sharp edges that can sometimes be typical of gardenia and grapefruit. These days I don't think I would repurchase PWL or WL again because I'm into different types of scents, but I absolutely adore smelling it on others, and it's always a bliss to find a tester and smell it from a card. I remember wearing it during hot summer times, and it was divine.

About a year ago, the hubs and I set out to find me a new signature scent since the one I'd worn for a few years just didn't fit the bill after 2 babies and my altered sense of smell would not allow me to where that one anymore. So we happened upon this, and we bought the gift set. The next day, I tried out the whole kitten caboodle, layered the shower gel, the lotion and the parfum, and about an hour later, there was NO SCENT ! Now don't get me wrong, I don't like my scents to be OUT THERE in your face kinda scents, as long as they are fresh and somewhat noticable, I'm good. This was just wayyyyyyyy too powdery and soft for my liking. I ended up returning it and exchanging for another perfume, which in turn was also returned for one I finally settled on for oh, about a month. What can I say, I'm a fragrance junkie !!

A very nice clean romantic fragrance. Fantastic staying power too. Makes me think of spring, having breakfast outside in the sunshine. It's innocent but noticeable and uncomplicated. I like it. Update: A month or so ago I was staying somewhere and two great girls had the room next to mine. Every morning there was this lovely smell in the hallway, I thought it was one of the girls who had used this great smelling body lotion right after showering. But when I asked, it turned out to be Pure White Linen! I really loved the smell, it smelled clean, crisp and romantic. And so when I was in Spain last week, I saw it at a perfume shop and I bought it. I won't wear it every day, but whenever the sun is shining and I feel uncomplicated and happy, this will be my perfume!

Delicate, aristocratic, crispy scent of the many components. I feel all kinds of flowers..white flowers! For the lovers of the white flowers this fragrance might be a safe blind buy. Very well-blended flowers! Cant even tell what this fragrance reminds me of..I would say, that nothing from Estee Lauder reminds it even slightly..This scent is on its own:) There is no aldehydes here, like in White linen. There is no retro feeling at all, like in "Beautiful" or "Dew". It is a modern scent in a good way. There is the feeling of cleanliness. Fragrance is clean here, but without any sharpness, no synthetic musk- very very appropriate, soft cleanliness. P.S:I could not expose on this fragrance any critics..even, if it would be paid to me for that:).

Pure White Linen smells like fruity lily of the valley in truly Estee Lauder style. When I am wearing this fragrance, I am buying very feminine white and rosé clothing with lots of sparkling stones, glitter, pearls, gold and silver. Yes, sometimes I am thinking to be a Christmas tree with the glittery bulbs so popular here in Germany and Europe. What I am saying - this is a perfume for very luxury outfit with pinkish red lips, rosé make-up and diamonds over you. I love it, but it is also a little bit stressful, be every time stylish and sparkling dressed. It is more for day than for the night and smells more intensive in colder spring weather. Edit: In extremely hot weather it smells on me like an insect spray, quite unpleasant!

I was at first hesitant to try this out when my sister gave it to me as a gift—when I was a kid I hated the White Linen my mum had that she gave to me and I thought, 'uh-oh not again!' But I was terribly wrong. This one's different. It was light and clean, yet it lasts really really long, and at the end of the day it still lingers, and more importantly it does not induce my migraine at all! I find the initial spray quite strong, perhaps due to my psychological fear of scents inducing my migraine, but this one softens up immediately and it's really sweet, but in a gentle way. It reminds me of jumping into fresh clean sheets when they are freshly dried and taken from the clothesline on summer days.

Original White Linen is a strong perfume and I love it, but they are so different to me, although their names are very similar. Pure White Linen is fresh and fruity, the original White Linen somehow sensual. Pure White Linen remains thin and light, even breezy, but lasts for hours. These two fragrances are perfect for summer and spring, incredibly charming with notes that are typically Lauder, actually I don't know which is more desirable. For me this is a fragrance that gives freshness feeling, and yet have the ability to keep you delightfully scented all day. An excellent choice for business and fits well with the casual style. Seems that those who like floral scents also love Pure White Linen.

Fresh and clean are definitely words that come to mind when wearing this perfume. It opens with a dash of fresh laundry, straight from the washing machine and settles to a nice, citrusy, powdery, flower scent for hours after that. It's a very lovely scent really. This fragrance lasts and lasts on me for hours. The longevity is one of the best in my collection. It also has quite a good sillage. You have to be very careful with overspraying though. You'd think the perfume is light and airy from the description but the scent tends to deepen with time and you might end up with more scent than you bargained for. A little goes a long way with this one. PWL suits best as a summer daytime fragrance.

Yes. This is a very nice fragrance. Definitly getting the White floral/floral notes but there's also some nice and subtle warmth to it. This is not the generic sweet scent and adds a nice variation to my perfume collection. This is the kind og scent you'd recognize on others wearing it. I'd say it's a very feminine scent and on me it just melts into my skin in a warm way but still has this "crispiness" to it. I love to wear this with anything leather - leather jacket, leather dress, leather skirt. Seems to suit the scent very well :)

As the name indicates it’s a soft, delicate and elegant scent. Very classy floral which just makes me feel comfortable and makes other people feel comfortable around me as well! I use this perfume (or the rose n roses from Dior) if I have a business meeting, somehow people get really relaxed quite quickly as this scent reminds many people for something, I was the same, I thought it’s a familiar scent which makes me feel home (if that makes sense??) I get nice comments when I’m wearing it and I would highly recommend it to anybody.

My MIL found a cute little mini bottle of Pure White Linen in a drawer and gave it to me. It smells like a fresher, greener, slightly less aldehydic White Linen. I like it, but I prefer White Linen when I just want to smell scrubbed and righteous. This is a bit fruitier and softer, which for me detracts a bit from the clean aspect. I think the freesia might be too prominent for my tastes, or perhaps it's the apple-pear combo. I'm pretty sure that red tulips don't have a scent, so that note might be more hypothetical/aspirational.

My boyfriend bought me Pure White Linen. I think it's really fresh and I like the white floral in it without being old-fashioned or for older ladies. It's a real spring and summer scent for sunny weather in my opininion. A bit too fresh/sour for fall/winter I guess. I thought the longevity wasn't great because I didn't smell it anymore after 2 or 3 hours but when my boyfriend hugged me after 4 hours he immediately asked if I was wearing his gift so that was neat. Sillage is fine, not too overpowering.

In my teens I had this cheap, but nice and soft EDT called Pretty You by an unknown brand. Now I know that it was an imitation of this one. No need to say that Pure White Linen is way better and complex, it's clean and pretty, although in almost all EL fragrances I detect something artificial, undescribable that puts me off of liking them completely. When it comes to clean fragrances I think of another similar one- clinique's happy heart.

Much, much better than white linen which I found quite horrible. This is a lovely spring/summer scent which is very linear and fresh. It's a dry lily-of-the-valley and jasmine scent to my nose and I like it but still find it a little sour for my taste. Many of the Lauder fragrances seem to advertise a kind of faceless, scrubbed beauty which I think appeals more to American puritans than to us dirty old Europeans!!

I have not many perfume collection. This is also a gift from someone few years back. It smells really fresh and crisp! Perfect for summer day. I stay at the tropic and at noon i sweat a lot. I swear that this perfume can mask the sweat smells really well. Suitable for day time wearing. I missed it and definitely going to buy a new bottle for myself.

This starts with a bright citrus burst which is then mellowed by the white flowers, some pear and cedar. The citus remains on me. It is a lovely summer fragrance and refreshing on hot days like today. It's longvity is excellent - 8 hours plus and it has decent sillage too. It's fresh, crisp and clean - a great one for daytime office wear.

Oh, isn't this just lovely? I get very, very clean white flowers, airy, delicate, understated and just lovely. It's definitely pure, definitely white, but linen I don't get at all, and I see no similarities with White linen. This one feels like getting out of the shower and putting on some nice body lotion. Very nice and very comforting.

This is a dupe for Ralph Lauren's Lauren ...the one in the red square bottle. I have both. It is a nice perfume for work or day, but definitely not for the night, IMHO. I used to like this more than I do now, probably because my tastes have changed. It is a nice, sweet, feminine, floral, and I think it smells exactly like Lauren.

I won't rebuy a full size bottle. It's a nice enough fragrance but not for me. It is very clean and so stark white I feel like I can't get dirty because I have to go somewhere. Not terribly interesting for me. Someone mentioned antiseptic soap and I get that. Kind of like antiseptic soap with added floral scent.

To me, this is almost all about white floral, the gourmand aspect is buried deeply in the heart. I find the top to be a bit fussy but after that dissipates, the fragrance settles into a softly fruity, cool clean scent. More preferable to me than the original and interesting enough to sample the other flankers.

Today I smelled Pure White linen, and travelled many miles, back home... Oh, my lovely Greek island... The sun, the sea, the honeysuckle in the yard.. The morning dew on the flowers and the fresh smell of grass and earth... They all sinked in my skin and became one of the most intimate smells in the world..

A more intense 'clean' scent. Has very familiar notes so it's not exactly distinct from just about any other scent, in fact it's kind of generic, but it's not a bad scent. Hangs on rather sharply and becomes more floral than clean in the dry down. Classic smelling but I'll pass

I have a bottle of the perfume but prefer the lotion...it seems to carry the scent further; lasting more for about 3 hours (at best). Very light and clean fragrance. Mix of such accords - notes and fragrances is amazingly balanced for my chemistry. I like it on warmer days.

I can smell fresh tulips, grass and spring breeze in this one. Grapefruit, honeysuckle, tulip and apple note give such nice composition togheter. I like how it's so light and inoffensive. A fresh fragrance that's not sharp in any way. A bright, nice breeze of fresh air.
