Malaise of the 1970's

I got this in a sample set from ELdO. The opening is very vivid and quite masculin with pepper and citrus. Than comes the prune, giving this perfume a lovely fruity layer. It's a nice fruityness, not too sweet and this fruityness mixes with the patchouli and amber to create a nice almost chique effect, although the patch might be a little bit too dirty to be considered chique. A little incense comes through as well, giving this fragrance a slight "hippie vibe". The scent is nice, but I really see no connection to the name. Maybe it's in the patchouli? I expected something far more edgy, far more uncomfortable. But, as a positive note, now it's a very very wearable scent. With rather poor longevity and projection tbh. This name is at least a little bit better fitting than The Sex Pistols. Those guys did not deserve the fact that such a tame perfume wore their name.

If you like Karma from Lush, this is for you. It got the same citrusy incense vibe ! I love it and got it at half price in Germany !

So I have Sex Pistols on one hand and this on the other and I swear they are very similar but not the same. This one is stronger, with more citrus, plum and ambrette. Sex Pistols has more pepper and more leather and is overall weaker. Don't get me wrong, they are 90% the same, but this was definitely re-tooled and "Malaise" is better, deeper, more well rounded. I have no idea why I like this. It definitely does remind me of someone's living room in the 1970s, with a shag carpet, naugahyde sofa, and orange wallpaper - maybe a patchouli incense stick burning away in one corner. I suppose it's a citrus-amber scent with musk, patchouli and leather. So all over the place. This one is sweeter than Sex Pistols and more comforting somehow. Why? No idea. I usually hate this kind of thing, but I can't stop smelling my wrist and thinking about psychedelic carpets. Weird. I was going to sell it but I can't bring myself to now. ps. I also have Karma and this is nothing like it. They're both orange, but that one is stronger on the orange and incense. This one is... more laid back? Pepperier? It definitely does not give the same happiness hit, but it does give a mellow one.

Blind bought just because I was born 1970 (I know... foolish cling!). Often pleased to find citrus-peppery accords and this is the case; for my nose this citrus being very rounded, tamed, either by the heliotrope – my nose fishes-it-out anywhere, even when used sparingly, as I don’t like it! – or by the plum? The leather note is there and helps a lot to give it some twist in the dry down. Overall not a bad fragrance for sure. If we call it a citrus it has some lasting quality, but if we call it a leather it lacks a bit of vertebrae... unless you were born 1970 maybe better bet money elsewhere 😉

Questo profumo è molto strano; in effetti mi fa pensare agli anni 70,un periodo fin troppo semplice, senza fronzoli e molto essenziale. Quello che sento è odore pungente di limone,incenso grigio, sangue, una strana umidità come se piovesse noiosamente. La sensazione che mi dà è di desolazione,un senso di noia autunnale,quando non c'era niente di bello ne di colorato,in attesa di un mese piu bello e intenso come dicembre. Negli anni 70 ricordo piu o meno questo.

In the opening I get pine and vanilla! Sooo weird. Then it settles, and I get tons of citrus and pepper with some patchouli. Super long lasting, but not a perfume to blow everyone out of the water. I like it, but it does go a bit toward masculine.

Nice citrus/spicy fragrance with a (very) original twist. Went to visit the ELdO store in Paris, it made it in my final top 3 of my new targets. Very nice.

To clear up any confusion, Malaise of the 1970s is the Sephora-friendly version of Sex Pistols (released by Etat Libre d'Orange a few years prior). The name change was an attempt to widen the market, (possibly seeing that some people are still to this day offended by the Sex Pistols). I am happy to report that the scent remains unchanged. This is the same pepper-heavy citrus scent that the Sex Pistols showcased so well. If you own one, you certainly don't need the other. Malaise of the 1970s is more masculine than feminine, a ramped-up citrus cologne with a heavy dose of pepper, patchouli and leather. It still maintains its freshness, but it projects a lot stronger than most citrus-dominant scents. For this reason, I would recommend this fragrance for mid-seasons or cool Summer nights. It doesn't smell like a 70s rockstar to me, but my opinion is subjective. I wouldn't describe Malaise of the 1970s as a particularly complex or outrageous scent either. It's very wearable, albeit a little too masculine for me. The projection of this scent is quite strong, so a few sprays is all that is necessary. A man that enjoys wearing Acqua di Gio by Giorgio Armani or Essenza di Colonia by Acqua di Parma would enjoy Malaise of the 1970s. It would make an excellent office or gym scent, provided that the fragrance is applied lightly. Nothing out of the ordinary, but worthwhile testing. The Etat Libre d'Orange line has many hidden gems once you overlook the infamous Secretions Magnifique.

The scent is very pleasant and nice from this house. It is fresh with a mix of amber and spice and a dominant citrus note overpowering the the sweet amber. It lasts around 6 hours and projects moderatly. To me it is one of the best from the eldo house along with fat electrician. It is worth owning and price point not bad at all

Save you bucks, this is formerly Sex Pistols, you can find it for 7-10£.
