Nostos

Jordi strikes again! Man, this is incredibly potent, I swear I don't take it off my skin even after showering, so over 14 hours of life, and also, besides the dizzying wake in the first few hours, it settles down as calmly as possible, docile and beautiful, but always present! It's a polarizing perfume for some, but for lovers of resinous and leathery with tar and industrial aspect/mechanic's oil, pitch, it's just heaven! In the opening it goes right into an area explored long before by the great Alberto Morillas through his Gucci Guilty Absolute/Black Incense Malaki/Voice of the Snake, etc. So, we are dealing with the undoubted signature of the talented Jordi Fernandez, Givaudan. Leatherwood or what molecules they use to recreate the industrial leather aspect of engine oil, to which frankincense is added, with saffron and other resins. The undoubted metallic aspect is given by the overdose of ambroxan with amberwoods and ambrofix and ambermax50, formulas patented by Givaudan. So, anyone who knows a little chemistry knows that the overdose of ambroxan and its derivatives in a formula results in the creation of a particular septic, metallic, extremely diffusive and ambrasive smell. Hence the eternal persistence of it and other bombastic creations in this style! I like it, at first it was on the verge of not convincing me, but after wearing it countless times, the perfume really revealed some fascinating subtleties and facets to me! We truly have an oriental creation, in the style of LV Ombre Nomade, only it is a little more chiseled in placement and evolution, naturally differing in the working style of the perfumer and the different molecules used. In all LV creations, Cavallier is known to use patented Firmenich formulas, since he worked at Firmenich all his life and continues to procure his raw materials from there! Anyone who is passionate about the formulas and molecules of the big perfume houses will realize through the subtleties and structure that the perfumes made by IFF will always differ from those made by Givaudan, as well as those made by Firmenich and vice versa. In any case, I conclude by saying, it is a brilliant creation!

WOW!! 2 sprays to the chest of my shirt, and it lasted a good 12 hours, even on my undershirt! This is a beautiful leather oud with a rich, smoky, spicy surround. The opening hits a little hard, but quickly finds a seat and just radiates nobility. This fragrance does have some of the "barnyard" references that to me recalled hay, horses, and a hint of their excrement. Does that mean this is a fecal oud? Not at all. This a deep, earthy, extremely masculine fragrance. This is not for the fainthearted, you will need to pull this off. Not the best for casual wear, but that's exactly where I tested this and I got complimented by everyone at the table. I'm going to dare you to blind buy this. It's worth it. Even if you don't find it appealing the first time you smell it, examine "the concept of the word's meaning- to return-" and come back to it a little later. This one seems to hit everyone in the feels a little bit differently. For me it's a return to my childhood- a hot, dry summer day on dad's horse ranch. ETA: this is one of the biggest compliment getters I’ve worn. Everyone seems to get something different from it, from lavender to Tommy Hillfiger to “smelling like Prince Charming”

Never tried anything from ELDO before and have smelled hundreds and hundreds of fragrances. Went to sample a few things from a fragrance store and the employee randomly sprayed this on paper and handed it to me. I was instantly intrigued and kept coming back to it. Such a beautiful oud mixed with sandalwood incense, but not overwhelming or suffocating. It reminded me of oud maracuja without the strong passion fruit that you instantly get, but instead a dialed down rose/ subtle floral note mixed in the background. As I kept smelling other things, I kept coming back and liked it more and more each time. By the time I left, I knew I had to have this. Purchased a bottle later that night. Yes, it has some similarities between ON and OM (both of which I totally love btw), but I see that as a beautiful thing, because It’s reminiscent of both yet unique in its own way. Highly recommend though it may not be everyone’s cup of tea.

True synesthesia in a bottle; Nostos smells like bright purple. The oud in it is pushed harder than a muscle-stacked wrestler, in the Vince McMahon era of WWE, but the oud reacts with other fun-loving scent notes, to make something which is both familiar and unusual at the same time. It's a night out in a futuristic city, where you can get any drugs you want. It is neon. The huge sillage and longevity of Nostos will turn heads until they twist off bodies. Wearing this perfume and walking past someone will make their brains go "AA-WOOOOOGA!", like cartoon wolves when they see a pretty lady and their tongues go all floppy. You can be the belle of the ball by wearing this scent and once you have smelt it, you won't be able to live without it. My favourite scent from the house of ELDO. 9/10. It's nothing new, but it's perfectly done.

A match not meant to be. This is fantastic. Yet, my wife likens it to monkey poo. Such a shame. Moving through the sample set from ELDO. Not many that stand out. I bought full bottles of La Fin Du Monde and Noel au Balcon. La Fin Du Monde because of the notes (a bit underwhelming but likeable). I had a sample of Noel au Balcon which made me want a bottle. But now with this sample set, most seem just ok. Then Nostos hit me. Strong opening, lovely combination of notes. I want to wear this often. Unfortunately, my wife forbids it 🤣. Even if I could get it at a reasonable price (it is overpriced), I would have little opportunity to wear it. This one is worth a test in my opinion. You can curate your own small sample set for $18. Which is great because there are other options that don't come with the large sample box. Try it out.

A colleague brought their bottle of Nostos to work just so I could smell it, and honestly, one spray was enough to grab my attention. It opened beautifully distinct, not at all ordinary. The oud and leather felt instantly familiar, and when I checked the perfumer, it all clicked: Jordi Fernandez. One of the greats, and the nose behind the Maison Crivelli Oud series. To my nose, Nostos sits somewhere between Oud Maracujá and Oud Cadenza. It’s less sweet than Maracujá and about on par with Cadenza in sweetness, but the oud and leather DNA is unmistakably the same. You can easily tell it’s Fernandez’s work. If you enjoy the Crivelli Oud line, you’re almost guaranteed to like Nostos. How much you’ll like it depends on your personal taste, but like it, you will. A very nice perfume.

Sooo good... What a surprise! I don't like most oud or rose fragrances but I'm very much into this. The oud is technically stronger than the leather, but it feels like it's the other way around. I don't get any traditional animalic qualities here. All of the notes that aren't oud and leather sort of blend together - incense, florals, sandalwood, musk, delicate hints of orange - so beautiful. That's what makes the fragrance for me. Trying to catch hints of these translucent, ethereal qualities that flavor the leather, while the oud acts as the supporting structure for all of this. These nuances don't come up in the air, so this is more for personal enjoyment.

This is an amazing complex synthetic oud fragrance. The notes are blended so well. This has garnered me many compliments. On 2 Occasions I gifted my 30ml Harrods calendar bottles. Once at a friend's union and the other time was to a security guard at the hotel I resided at Makkah. I still have 4 bottles of the 30ml purchased at bargain prices online. This is definitely a compliment magnet, and it projects for hours. Get your nose on it before you buy. This is better than MC's Oud Stallion, I have both and can say perhaps the same synthetic oud note is used (same perfumer) however the Scent profile is completely different.

Please don't ask me why, but my first impression was being in a BDSM-Club in Berlin. Never been to one, but my mind went there when first smelling it. Distinctive combination of leather, rose and oud - even though I usually dislike leather. ELDOs Clean Suede being an exception. It was rather addictive but my choice to wear in to classes (university) was a bad one. It has a great projection - too far if you're tightly packed with about 100 of your peers. Overall I'm really impressed. It has a great longevity (~9h rather strong, still got whiffs after ~12h). The projection as previously stated is too good :)

A modern elegant Oriental which will enchant the wearer, while offering nothing particularly new. Rose, oud, leather and incense are quite prominent, but the scent itself is rather airy and transparent despite of the dark heavy ingredients. It exudes luxury and fits perfectly the spirit of the store it's created for. Outstanding longevity and projection. Being in the same ballpark as much more expensive counterparts as Ombre Nomade, The Voice of the Snake, Nostos is definitely a winner of the price-quality ratio. Happy to have it in my collection!

It is pretty astounding that the mandarin orange in this battle against the woods, the musks and everything oriental, has not only stood its ground but fought the battle to the end! Bravo! Gorgeous scent, not as harsh on woods as Ombre nomade, has absolutely nothing to do with Ganymede or Ombre leather. I have them all! Easily unisex! Very very impressive. The rating for this frag is so unjustified imo

Smells like Copenhagen Straight but in the best way possible Oud and Leather take over the top notes with undertones of incense and slight citrus. VERY strong sillage and lasts very long. Very dark and rich scent for sure, if you like dark incense fragrances or leathery fragrances, this one is definitely for you. If you’re into Oud, i would still recommend this. Definitely a favorite of mine.

I've been trying to find the words, but really this smells like the perfume bottle looks. It's just such a great blend of leather, suede and saffron. This is what people think Ganymede is, sort of a more accessible brother to the scent. Something that does kind of feel like walking on a hot dusty unpaved path through the Mediterranean, the flowers in bloom. Blue-green and earthy. I loved it

Definitely a very sexy Jordi masterpiece! Don't miss the hidden gem in this scent: a sweet uplifting Damask rose that blossoms in the dry down, beautifully contrasting the initial leather and incense opening. This unique floral sweetness, set against the smoky backdrop, makes Nostos a masterful, unisex fragrance for those who are intelligent, warm, quirky, and a little mysterious.

Loving it to bits! Now this is the oud I can smell and enjoy! Without all the unpleasant, harsh, fecal nuances of the real thing. Why suffer if you can be exposed to something that beautiful? On my skin it's a rose and oud symphony and I couldn't care less if the oudness is natural or synthetic or non-existent for some. My final judge is my nose. And the verdict is: LOVE!

Suede, wood and a dusty rose. It is indeed a nostalgic perfume, I do not want to say it smells like a funeral wreath but it goes that way. The truth is that I have just opened the bottle, it must settle and get some air. I will come back to it. I want to like it, but as it is now, freshly opened, it definitely has a sad, collected, demure air.

Just realised this is similar to Guidance. I thought I knew the smell and yes Guidance! Of course not exactly the same, but similar vibes! Many notes are similar,Guidance is just more creamier with the osmanthus. Initially I didn't think a lot of this perfume but now I really like it !

this one is so good, high quality, amazing performance and great smell. so sophisticated and elegant but i get where some of the minor hate's coming from its just that some people can't take oud in any shape or form, even tho the oud in here is not too animalic or toxicating.

I got this when it first came out and was exclusive to Harrods. Wow, what sillage, it is strong at first but mellows out later. It lasts forEVER. I am told people can smell i’ve been around. Now its readily available and cheaper but even at full price was worth it

smoky raisin, with a very very sweet base note. smells like a chinese herbal hard candy tastes. i would enjoy this scent more if there wasn't a sickly sweetness lurking in the background. dries down into an excellent smoky oud

This is different from any other fragrance I've smelled before - love it! Longevity and sillage are A1. Leans quite masculine. It's woody, it has depth, but there's this distinct elegance that comes through with the rose note.

I know people say this has a Middle-Eastern feel but for me, I get a girl picking fresh roses for her husband in his leather-works with a cowhide rug. Faint smell of smoke from all the cigars over the years.

beautiful suede note that made me appreciate the scent i never thought i'd grow to love. ties everything together in a pleasantly overpowering way. sophisticated, quite long-lasting, and makes a statement

This is a gem! I bought an ELDO sampler in December 2025 and tried this today. And WOW! Just an amazing slightly sweet rose-oud-saffron fragrance. Smells like the Turkish-delights I think. 10/10

This instantly reminds me of The Voice of the Snake by Gucci. Oud, leather and rose with a light powdery touch. Very nice fragrance and one of my favourite from ELDO

A nice unique blend of western oud and leather on top of a sweet fruit. Funky, dark, and could be cloying. Could be worn by men or women during a cold night.

Like a more masculine version of "Atmoic Rose" 8/10

Returning to Etat Libre d’Orange, Nostos takes its inspiration not from the clever homecoming of Ulysses, but from Achilles, the more beautiful and more tragic hero whose return was always impossible. In Greek, nostos means “the return,” and from it comes nostalgia, the pain of longing for something forever out of reach. Achilles embodies this tension perfectly. Divine and human, violent and tender, he knows his fate and still fights against it. Nostos imagines perfume as that impossible return, a fragrant echo of desire, memory, and resistance against time. On skin, Nostos opens boldly by ELDO standards. A mildly sweet rose leads, joined by soft incense, with a touch of mandarin brightness and gentle warmth from saffron. The rose is clearly dominant in the opening, floral and slightly musky, while the incense remains light and airy rather than heavy or smoky. The mandarin lifts the scent, and the saffron hints early on that this fragrance will grow darker as it develops. After about fifteen to twenty minutes, the rose remains strong but is softened by a smooth, almost creamy jasmine. At this point, oud begins to appear. It is distinct yet restrained, clean and mellow, without any of the animalic or challenging facets that often define the note. After roughly an hour and a half, the base begins to settle in. Sandalwood, Georgywood, and a generous dose of Ambrofix come together to create a warm amber woody foundation that blends seamlessly with the rose and oud. The transition feels well paced. Closer to two and a half to three hours in, a dark suede leather emerges. This is where ELDO adds its familiar twist. What initially feels like a refined oud rose fragrance gains a deeper, more shadowed character. The suede is smooth and leathery rather than harsh, adding weight and contrast while the rose and musks remain present to keep the composition balanced. In the late dry down, Nostos shifts toward a more traditionally masculine profile, though I’d say it still reads as unisex. Oud, suede, Ambrofix, and musks come forward, with the rose quietly anchoring the scent. Performance is very good and easily one of the strongest I have experienced from ELDO. It lasts the entire day on my skin and projects confidently during the first few hours. This is not a fragrance to judge on paper alone, as it evolves significantly over time and smells quite different at the end of the day than it does in the opening. If you are expecting something completely new and groundbreaking, it may not fully deliver. However, if you want a well composed oud rose with suede in the base and light florals smoothing the edges, Nostos is a compelling and satisfying option that keeps drawing you back for another smell.

Got my hands on the sample kit with 20 small vials of ELDO's fragrances to try with my girlfriend. This is our fifth one trying out. This one was extremely different depending on the skin of the person who was wearing it. Both my girlfriend and I sprayed it on our wrists for test, and both scents were very different, but shared the same base notes. When it first made contact with my skin, it was an EXTREME blast of nothing but a very musky Oud and leather. There were other notes there, but the oud swallowed everything whole. On my girl, it was significantly more delicate - still powerful though - but the other notes present in the opening were much more noticeable like the suede, smoke, and saffron. The fragrance continued to remain relatively different between us as it settled into our skin. Mine has developed into a predominantly woody, musky, smoky beast of a scent with subtle notes of mandarin, rose and saffron. On her skin, it was much more smoky as the incense seemed to take center stage alongside the oud. The rose is also stronger on her skin as well. The shared notes between us was definitely the musk, amber, and suede (which was probably our favorite note). All the differences aside, we both really like this one. It's incredibly strong, and lasts for SEVERAL hours. It's not too heavy despite the very dark scent profile either, it's a great daily driver for the colder months and evenings out. It's rich and complex and sophisticated, and it reminds me of my kindhearted uncle and memories of being a kid at his place. It's just not a scent I would wear personally, but for those oud lovers out there, this is absolutely a winner if you're willing to accept that price point. A gorgeously constructed masculine fragrance from ELDO!

Hmmm.. Let's see... I tried this on skin, as i do with almost all of my other samplings. I had a friend tell me this smells like a leather belt. Quite accurate. This is very leathery and rubbery, like chewing on a balloon. Like doctor gloves or condoms. Odd, I think I need to smell more perfumes to get to know certain notes more, because this technically (based on notes/ingredients such as oud) should smell very similar to Rien but they couldn't be more dissimilar. Nostos smells much less human/warm and more cold/artificial. There's a certain plasticky quality about it that isn't an insult here as you would typically expect, it almost smells like it is intentionally smelling like plastic. It's strange, kind of addictive, not exactly a "good" smell, not bad either, just a smell. One I can see people either enjoying it or not wanting to be near it. So yeah, it really is just a smell. An okay smell? Maybe. Very neutral, but not inoffensive. It does demand to be heard.. or..uh.. smelled. I would say of all the perfumes I have tried so far, this one is most like Belly of the Beast by Toskovat', which smells like damp rubber boots (in the best way possible). But this one has less complexity and is almost faintly floral and sweet. The suede note is not catastrophic like Soul of My Soul is. Personally I prefer Belly of The Beast over this since it has a soggy lakewater scent to it that I enjoy more, however Nostos is a good substitute if that rubber aspect is what you're after since ELDO is more accessible.

Nostos defies easy description. It glides across the senses like silk slipping through open fingers, or the sharp, grateful first breath after surfacing from deep water. Every time I spray it, I instinctively take two fast, greedy inhales, one right after the other, as if I could trap its fleeting beauty before it dissolves into thin air. This fragrance is pure ethereality: a vision more than a scent. It evokes the half-remembered woman from a dream you can never quite return to, a shimmering hallucination that hovers just beyond reach. It is nostalgia wrapped in soft mystery, cradled in quiet longing, sealed inside an ache you didn't know you still carried. Words feel inadequate here, and maybe that's precisely the point. Nostos isn't meant to be pinned down or fully explained. It's meant to haunt you gently, to remind you of something you've lost and yet somehow still hold. If Julee Cruise was a perfume, she'd be Nostos.

(Got 2ml of this in my 20-sample kit from ELdO's site. Looks like it may not stay Harrods-exclusive?) Immediately met with a strong, dark, oud-y, leathery rose. As it settles for a minute, it turns smoky and ambery. This intensity quickly nosedives in the drydown, becoming much lighter despite starting so heavy, which lets some of the mandarin come through. Nostos may not contribute anything new to the sea of leathery, oud-y rose fragrances, but you can't deny it's very well done, and it's nice to see how ELdO pulled it all off. Like with most Middle Eastern-type fragrances, the performance is insane. It lasts all day, and people will surely smell you from 6 to even 8 feet away, so this is not something you'd want to overspray at all.

I tried Nostos in the summer but I must try it again in cooler weather. At the moment I get extremely intense leather and it makes me think of horse saddles and other leather gear for some reason. Rose stays very much on the background and this very intense, worn and dusty leather takes over. Not a favorite at the moment, but I could imagine a bar-night in October wearing this with my rock-mama outfit 😁🤠 reminds me of old wooden rollercoasters as well! Yup, I will definately revisit this one as a night-out -scent in the cold and damp winter. Brave and loud, in-your-face, rock-bitch -kinda scent IMO.😈 would suit men very well also!

First spray was a hell no. Too much oud. Heavy and suffocating. Luckily I sprayed on my wrist so was forced to see it develop. And as the florals and incense come through its much better. Becomes softer, more rounded, and more amber. It’s not predominantly rose, but does smell similar to a lot of spicy rose and oud / incense fragrances I already have. Its incense heavy, then oud, spices and rose. Also, it’s nothing at all like Guidance, which has a over ripe fruit vibe, and an almost sourness to it, and none of the strong smoky incense (I received them in the Harrods advent calendar so can compare directly).

I've tested it in Sephora two times I've been there and it was so intriguing that I felt compelled to write what I think of it on here, even though I'm not an expert of any kind. For me it smells like an aftermath of a gunfight, like how would John Wick, or maybe James Bond, smell like after the movie is done. After all those gunshot wounds and their jackets filled with gunpowder smell but you can still smell the perfume they used before heading out, underneath all of that. Personally I wouldn't wear it often - it's too heavy but for some ocassions it would be really nice conversation starter for suure.
