The Baron

Epic Journey Into the Bottled Yonder, 150 ------------------------------------------------------- Purchased August 2019 How could I forget The Baron? Literally a barbershop, whatever the fuck that ever meant, in a bottle. It's fresh, it's floral, it's musky, it's woody and spicy. An after shave that can spray. Obviously I switched the OEM screw on splasher to the OEM screw on spray that it came with. But the spray doesn't come with a cap so it's exposed and very old school. Will have to revisit it because I've kept it in a hidden place since it was rare and never available on Fragrantica. The first review of it here is in July 2023, this website can be behind and it still doesn't have certain cheap scents I've always loved. Nothing truly smells like this. The Baron is basically a sweetened powder - 007. Every proper man who knows his stuff loves it. The Baron is what you wear when you misplaced your bottle of Dunhill for Men on your way out to an E-Type exhibition, all Sean Connery-like with confidence.

If this was re released as an LV or YSL it would be pretty popular. Seriously I bought the Maison Alhambra Summer Vibe which is a clone of LV Sun Song, and as I was smelling it I was surprised how much it reminds me of something more old school. As I was trying to figure out what Summer Vibe reminded me of Tabac and The Baron came to mind. Well it was actually mainly Neroli Portofino DNA that it reminded me of, but it was totally The Baron as well. So The Baron is actually not far from a lot of modern fragrances like Sun Song/Neroli Portofino(if you consider that modern), Niko Sculpture/Lafayette Street, YSL Myself ect. The biggest difference is this goes in a more vintage soap direction, and it smells like a classic dandy. This is wonderful stuff, and if you like any of the above orange blossom bombs, or other modern floral masculine fragrances you should try The Baron.

I remember My Uncle wearing this when I was 14, and I'm 55 now. It was His signature scent, and it smelled so good. For the past 10 years, I've been rocking ot myself and I'm so glad I was able to remember the name of it and saw it at FragranceNet for a Great price. It's Floral forward throughout, and has a wonderful drydown that gets a bit Woody on my skin. I'll never stop wearing until the end of my time is up. It's not a clubbing type of scent so to speak but, I wear as a daily. It's SUPER POWERFUL, and beware of your sprays. It's gotten me plenty of compliments, and I don't wear Cologne for the compliments, I wear them because I DIG them. Ah, the BARON ! Fragrantica has not had this one in their database until recently. This is such an underrated and forgotten gem ! I have been wearing this since 1988 ( on and off) and everytime I get a wiff of this, I am transported back to my High School days ! Such great memories. Perfect blend of aromatics, herbs, woods, spices, florals, and a hint of barber shop powder. It's sweet-ish but not in a gourmand way. There is just nothing like it ! It's a classic that just never goes out of style. Great for everyday or special occasions. It's like a hug and smile in a bottle. Thank you for your many years of uplifting service. You will always be in my fragrance arsenal.

My brother and I have been wearing this great fragrance since the 70s. It is a sweet blend of scents that makes for a unique and wonderful fragrance. To me it smells like Christmas. I cannot describe it; I am sorry. But I love it, have loved it, for decades. I don't know why more people don't talk about this great fragrance. It is now sort of a secret, one that you now know about. It is not an offensive smell at all. Women love it: my brother and I can attest to it.

I wore this in the 80’s. It actually smells pretty good. I would definitely wear this again.

Opening is prominent floral, has a very familiar scent to me, very unisex to my nose. This could be a signature cologne for every situation, something Fonzy would be wearing to score some chicks back in the days. This one is not mass appealing, and it is quite different from anything I have. Hard to find a good time to wear it to be honest, but interesting to know it because of its history related to the NY Yankees. Seems like it has been discontinued for over 7 years now. Since it does not have any batch information and I don't know from when my bottle is - I just realized that the top citrus could be long gone and that's why my impression is that it leans straight to the florals from the opening. My version is the LTL Fragrances FL LLC, made in USA, TM patent 0825067 - barcode 607193005004. It is a splash and comes with a separate atomizer - that I will not be using. I decanted 5ml into a 5ml bottle so I can spray it from there instead of leaving it without a cap to avoid further unnecessary degradation.

Really good and underrated fragrance. It’s a male’s scent but to me it’s got just enough sweetness that it could be for a female looking for a darker fragrance. The lavender and spices give it some really nice punch while still being smooth. For some reason, the silver bottle and the lavender profile give me a futuristic feel/ remind me of a space adventurer. It smells pretty formal/ professional. I’m 29 and I don’t feel like it’s too mature for me, but everyone’s palette is different. On skin, it has a dry down blend of notes that gives me a suntan lotion type of vibe, which I didn’t love at first but since then it’s become addicting. For $30 it’s a total steal. It has a certain depth to it and I think the right person might become addicted to this fragrance

This is a slightly sweet, powdery, old-school lavender-dominant scent. Quite nice and traditionally gentlemanly.

I don't think this has aged well. I only have a mini that came free with my vintage White Shoulders bottle that smells fabulous BTW. I am getting a lot of sage and basil and alcohol. The florals are gone. I think this is going to be tossed. I'm sure in its day and fresh it was a nice male fragrance.

I've always kept a bottle of this in my collection. It's certainly not a "blind reach", but it definitely has it's place. Years ago, my grandmother wore a perfume called "White Shoulders" and sometime in the Sixties, she bought The Baron for grandpa because the sales person at the department store she shopped, told her that there was "a new men's cologne that smelled a lot like White Shoulders, but masculine"... So as it turns out, they "matched" whenever they went out on the town. It's true... This one is pretty strong when first sprayed, but it dries down to an arm's length projection after about one hour. That projection lasts, though... This fragrance is rich and noticeable for at least six to eight hours. It's semi sweet in the opening and gets softer and woodier as it dries down. In this one, you'll find notes of slight citrus in the opening, along with notes of powder and amber... But the entire composition is washed throughout with the gentle note of Gardenia... Very "different" from other men's fragrances! There's also a tinge of White Musk in the fragrance that plays through the opening through the late dry down. In my personal opinion, this one would work for anyone over the age of say twenty, especially for those more formal occasions. As far as "seasons", I'm an old school guy and we never bothered with any of that... What smelled good sixty years ago, still smells good to us old codgers to this day. I'd recommend that anyone who might try this incredibly unique fragrance, to go easy on the trigger at first. No more than three or four sprays will probably last the average guy ALL DAY and into the evening. Also... It of course reacts quite differently on clothing (stays more "seperated" in it's notes), than it does on skin... Where it reacts to temperature in some really incredible ways.

Launched the year I was born. It was unknown to me before I saw it in a full page advertisement in a 1980 edition of GQ Magazine. I can smell why there is a comparison to the 1964 Brut by Faberget, but there is less prominent lavender in The Baron. The Baron behaves more like a Floral Citrus Aromatic than it does a Fougere. It's very aromatic. It's very light, and I assume it's EDC concentration. It's not much like the brilliant holy grail of Citrus Aromatics that would launch just five years later, Dior Eau Sauvage. But interestingly, The Baron reminds me a bit of a simplified prototype and 30 year foreshadowing of the 1994 release of CK One. The Baron will fit right in with my "Toiletry Scent" collection, with the likes of classic Old Spice Cologne, Pinaud, Veron Dandy, various Bay Rums, Alt-Innsbruck Eau de Cologne, and others of that ilk.

Fun fact about this fragrance, apparently it was the favorite cologne of famed long time New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner. The quote below is an excerpt from a July 18th, 2010 New York Post article titled "Yankees' old-timers share stories about Steinbrenner". "When I was in left field with him, I smelled the cologne he had on. I said, ‘Man, that’s a nice fragrance.’ He asked me if I liked it and I said, ‘I love it.’ Well, I get home and the cologne beat me — a whole big crate of it. It was called The Baron, and it was discontinued, I couldn’t get it any more. ... He must have bought it all out." Jesse Barfield, outfielder

The baron cologne. A very nice old school floral, spicy, musky fragrance that lingers nicely throughout the day. A little medicinal in the opening, but settles elegantly. Not much is spoken about this one, mabye it's the bottle, not sure. Was pleasantly surprised, it's very nice & a good everyday cologne.

A very, VERY strong fragrance & you might not expect this from a COLOGNE vs an EDT. It also lasts VEEEERY long, & THAT you might not expect. The rose/carnation & floral notes pretty much carry the fragrance & is what you'll get even after the dry down, but again, a POWERFUL fragrance so be warned.

I wanted to like this one, but I just couldn’t. Something about wearing it made me feel like I was in fog. And for some reason wearing it made me feel mentally dulled.

I'm 58 and this is probably my first bottle of perfume I remember owning. My mother's boyfriend would be sporting The Baron
