Patchouly Indonesiano

I am still debating between this and the Patchouli from Santa Maria Novella. I love the smell of Patchouly Indonesiano more, but the Santa Maria slightly takes the edge because it performs better on my skin. However, I think that Patchouly Inodnesiano is meant for colder weather. This stuff is no joke - the purest, darkest, earthiest, and most straightforward Patchouli perfume you'll ever find. I'm not sure on the formula, but I wouldn't be surprised if they used just patchouli oil at a very high concentration. The fragrance is so oily and sticky that it clogs the atomizer. When sprayed, it leaves an oily sheen, and it behaves much like an essential oil. I'd love it to push out just a tad more because I adore the smell, and I'd like to get more wafts through the day. It lasts for a long time, though, and it is lingering beautifully on the skin. But the smell, oh my, to me, it is Patchouli perfection. There are no fillers here; no spices, no woods, no resins, and no florals. This is like pressing your nose against the shrub and then pulling it barehanded from the ground and smelling the dusty earth on the leaves as well as the soil clinging to the roots. It feels like being buried alive beneath a patchouli bush. It doesn't evolve much throughout the wear, but its profile is so complex that you'll always experience different facets and never get bored. It opens up like a shot of warm liquor made of earth. Boozy, spicy, warm, and with a dark cocoa-like undertone. This is the darkest, least sweet cocoa you can imagine. Then it emits bits of camphor, earthy facets, and progressively becomes dustier as it develops. When I say dusty, I mean earth dust. The scent of earth when it's hot outside and gets hit by the rain, but not as diffusive, rather thick that you could chew it. So perhaps, earth dust that has collected on the leaves of the shrub, and you take a bite without washing it beforehand (I do that with mint leaves). A scent that most likely won't find appeal in today's market, but if you like earthy perfumes, patchouli, and dark-themed fragrances, it should be on the list to try. Decided late last year I needed to add a patchouli to the fragrance wardrobe so went through all the blogs, compiled a list of everything consistently top-rated, ordered a massive batch of samples... & then my nose was wiped out by a mild case of Covid. This was the only one I could smell at all, its camphor pervades, so by default was designated the favorite. After months of Flonase & fish oil pills & smell exercises my nose is back. & Patchouly Indonesiano is still in first place, tied with the Mazzolari, its utter opposite. The Mazzolari is the city patchouli, smooth & decadent & delicious. This is the country patchouli, intense & raw & hyperreal. I have patchouli plants & they don't smell like this, this is the ur-patchouli, the pagan god of dirt & roots & stems & leaves unleashed. Makes me want to do yardwork, the early spring kind, when you're tilling soil & wrestling old vines. Invigorating! Not sure how often I'd wear this around other people (already a stoner, no need to be a cliché) but require it for myself. Sold out on Luckyscent & I fear the bad news below of its discontinuance. Found a decant on ScentSplit. This has been happening a lot lately.

On the west coast of the U.S. we are stuck in an apocalyptic smoky “inverse” weather pattern from all the forest fires. In Seattle, this is causing air caught below the clouds to be unseasonably cool, not to mention incredibly difficult to breathe. The air is heavy with floating bits of ash that feel like a pallet of bricks on the inhale. Yesterday, the seventh day in a row of this nightmare, I decided to fight back with my patchouli weaponized perfume from Farmacia. This majestic, potent stuff can cut through anything. Finally my nose can take a break from smoke. Not many perfumes could stand up to this situation. So even though my eyes are itchy, my throat raw from the feeling of smoking 18 cigarettes a day (the equivalent of breathing this unhealthy air for 24 hours) I am grateful, elated even, to have this beautiful beast in my perfume collection.

After obtaining various aged patchouli bottles I thought I'd be done with patchouli fragrances... yet here I find myself loving this soliflore and wanting to get a full bottle. There are certain nuances of patchouli that are often toned down or flat out eliminated, regrettably for some of us. I feel this is the case with the camphorous, medicinal and earthy edges, being cut off on some classic patchouli fragrances. To my nose at least! Or maybe I'm less sensitive to them? TF's Patchouli Absolu and Patchouly Indonesiano, while fairly different from each other, embrace those nuances and it's oh so wonderful. The result is a vigorous patchouli that refuses to move from center stage throughout the journey. This is a love and the most hardcore patchouli I have encountered thus far, a great discovery!

I think my search for a holy grail patchouli may have ended with this truly filthy concoction. Opens with that apple and chocolate thing that patchouli does, but within some minutes becomes the smell of a plant ripped from the ground, roots and soil and all, chopped and churned, then squeezed into a bottle. The drydown smells earthy, in the best way possible, like actual soil. Fantastic. This is not one of your ubiquitous, sweetened patchoulis that every house seems to have, with vanilla and/or tonka and/or amber thrown in as a sort of apology for how patchouli smells. If this were a cup of coffee, it would be a strong, black espresso, not a watered-down, sugar-and-cream affair you can get on any corner for a ridiculous price.

I got this because I hoped it would be hard to love, so the best analogy I can think of is of sampling an especially alarming single-malt scotch after getting used to Cutty Sark (essential patchouli oil from the co-op). Some notes are surprising (B-vitamin), some not (camphor, dirt, rat piss) , but just like you wake up from the Exceptional Evening with unmistakable whisky-testing mouth whether or not you recall the high-brow nuances of the partaking, PI is only exceptional if you're interested in paying attention. Otherwise, you're in the ballpark for 1/10 of the cost.

This is possibly the most quintessential patchouli fragrance. It’s straightforward patchouli with none of the soil/cacao/amber notes that perfumers tend to blend with it. Pure patchouli is so herbaceous, spicy, mildly sweet, uplifting and nasal-clearingly camphoraceous that it doesn’t need to be brought down by heavy/dark base notes. Simplistically powerful patchouli to-the-point perfection. News just in: this is now out of production and it’s part of their old line. So sad.

If you love quality, unadorned Indonesian patchouli, this is great! My collection of patchouli oils varies from awful to wonderful, but this is truly wonderful. Useful bottle too as you can use it as a splash or attach the included spray top instead.

I enjoy this a few times a year. The juice must be thick and resiny because the sprayer gets sticky. I don't think its so bad-ass. It's pure of concept, being a captivating so-called soliflore, but not sure how pure of materials. Even if it is 100% natural oil, I'm not sure this perfume offers more value than high quality patchouly essential oil, which has a lot of versatility. For example one can dilute oil and massage with it. Or dilute oil into a mister and spray a room or blanket or pillow. All very relaxing. I like this but in the end I prefer my patchouly fragrances to be blends and more fragrance than mood shifter.

This is such a raw, unsweetened and earthy patchouli, even for a patchouli lover like me it’s difficult to bear, although it quite fascinates me. I sense liquorice in it, or maybe real patchouli has a liquorice undertone. I have never tried patchouli oil, but I imagine this is how it smells like. For die-hard patchouli fans exclusively, and even for them I wouldn’t recommend a blind buy.

A cool dirty authentic patchouli. No nonsense just singular patchouli as it's meant to be. Quite earthy and especially good for a warm/ hot day. Smells almost identical to Villoresi patchouli to me but loses a few points due to it's lesser projection (perhaps because the former is an EDT and this is an EDP). Scent 8.5/10 longevity 8.5/10 sillage 7.5/10

Patchouli + cobwebs. Very earthy, dry, dusty, and almost moldy. This is how an antique rocking horse that's been sitting in an attic for several years would smell. All that being said, I like it. It's full of character and smells like historical objects.

This is the real thing! This smells like pure patchouli essential oil. I am more of a Coromandel-type patchouli, i.e. patchouli buried in frankincense and white chocolate, but for those who like the smell of the raw material, this is it.

Dust and patchouly. And a little more earthy dust. In my imagination this is the type of dust that could be found settling on a crypt or kicked underneath the heels during a dry desert walk.

Pleasant italian artisan perfume, a shower of patchouli and patchouli, enough?

I love patchouli, and I guess I expected this to blow me away, but maybe I am learning that I like my patchoulis best when blended with other notes. It started out bracing, camphorous, and dirty, and within an hour it was a velvety smooth, warm, and woody skin scent, but Patchouly Indonesiano had very poor staying power on my skin and was barely detectable after that first hour. Four hours later there was no trace of it on my wrist. I like it for being a high-quality single note fragrance, but I would have to reapply it constantly to be able to fully enjoy it. Update: retesting this in spring weather, it turned rather musty on me and I didn't get the bracing camphor blast I usually like from my patchouli.

And this is just why we have to SAMPLE before ever buying a full bottle of NICHE colognes because there DEFINITELY not for everyone,I bought a 5ml sample of this cologne and I'm just so glad I didn't buy a larger size,it's just NOT ME AT ALL,to DEEP,to DARK,to WOODSY,to RAW,now this is just my opinion, others seem to love it and that's what makes fragrances a real attraction,but this is just NOT FOR ME AT ALL, REMEMBER,BUY SAMPLES WHEN YOUR DEALING WITH NICHE COLOGNES,THERE JUST NOT FOR EVERYONE...

This is the ABSOLUTE WORSE cologne I ever smelled just ALL patchouli,this is one cologne that MUST BE SAMPLED FIRST,I repeat,IT MUST BE SAMPLED FIRST,and sample it on paper,you really might not like this on your skin,just totally unwearable for me....

For those of tender sensibilities, look away now. This smells like puke in a tar pit, burned gasoline, dirt, mold, hard water from an outdoor tap. No.

A patchouli bomb! The open explodes with overwhelming essence, almost too much for the nose to handle. As if all features of this herbal wonder were condensed into a space too small to hold them. Expanding on release to engulf your senses. Once decompressed, they settle onto your skin and radiate all aspects of this organic phenomenon. Verdant, grassy, spicy, camphorous, earthy, herbaceous. And fresh, as if they were just spewed out of a wood chipper and you were in the line of fire. Although the force subsides dramatically once it dries down, a characteristic of most natural perfumes, the longevity is amazing lasting over a day. Farmacia SS. Beautiful. Dry and honest. Classy and elegant. For men and women. Finally a patch fragrance without amber or vanille. Patch as the main player. No need for the company of others. Not even from patchouli's buddy 'the rose'. A patchouli that is calming, intriguing and so earthy that it brings me home. And at the same time it's so spiritual that I never walk that path alone. I am veryinterested in the differences between this perfume and Santa Maria Novella Patchouli (except for the price...!) Can anybody tell me? Thanks in advance!

Got a sample of this from Luckyscent I used about half of the 1ml sample or about 3-4 sprays worth whoa! very medicinal, like eucalyptus cough drops but without the cooling menthol sensation... I also get straight up dirt, slight peanut buttery tones which leads me to believe this has a little bit of vetiver in it- most likely in miniscule amounts but I just can't get over how pungently medicinal this is, even my other half said I smelled like a doctors office ... I had to scrub it off, I guess I'm more of a patchouli blend guy

Wow this is gorgeous!!! I mean you gotta love patchouli tho... 😹 😹 😹 I agree with previous reviewer that there is some vetiver present. I disagree with other previous reviewer that this has no tempering sweetness. I get the sense there's some musk as well that's adding a velvety smooth sweetness.

As advertised. All patchouli all the time. Brings back memories of the rotting leaves I used to smell in a lake that I swam in when I was a small child.

Great Patchouli but very persistent and too expensive. Supreme Patchouli by Blancheide costs much less, is the same and is more persistent.

This is a nice, natural smelling straight up patchouli scent. Enough said. Worth a sample if you're a patchouli fan.
