Cedar Essence

J'adore! I got this last week as a blind buy because I love cedar and haven't been able to stop wearing it since - I LOVE IT It isn't exactly what I had expected - I was anticipating something a bit more "woody" and cedar-y, but I was more than pleasantly surprised, in fact I was enraptured by the sublime harmony of notes - it really is exquisitely beautiful. The opening is seductively enigmatic with a citrus tang that I initially thought was mandarin, a hint of mint and watery something and sweetness of watermelon with a woody accompaniment of cedar. Then the citrus/orange note fades as the scent evolves and the aquatic "je ne sais quoi" becomes more pronounced, leading into the dry-down dominated by the woodiness of cedar and patch with coffee, although I find the latter to be either almost undetectable or so perfectly blended that it harmonises effortlessly. Sillage is quite substantial at first, and I confess that I can be a bit heavy handed sometimes - I spray or dab gently to my wrists, chest, base of the neck and behind the ears, and the scent is so pleasant that even if (as I have a tendency to) one applies a bit too much, you won't cause anyone in an elevator to gag or asphyxiate - instead, bystanders usually smile and inhale the aroma with visible pleasure, and a young guy in the supermarket came up and told me I smelled fantastic today. I mainly wear this during the day and longevity is good, but not as good as I'd like, since my skin seems to be a bit particular about fragrances, yet I'd say I get a decent four to six hours in late Spring in Sydney, with temperatures ranging between 22 and 30 degrees Celsius, sunny with moderate humidity. If you like cedar or woody fragrances in general, I would recommend this as a definite BUY.

I blind bought a full bottle of this for kicks, and after testing somewhat thoroughly, this one most definitely gets put into the Bleu de Chanel/Dylan blue camp for me, especially in the opening. It's like a mix of BdC and Dylan blue with a slightly sweet watermelon twist, the opening is quite interesting. However the biggest downside is the performance. Love the smell, but this stuff is completely gone off my skin in a matter of 2 to 4 hours. Spayed liberally (6 sprays) today before work after shower, and like all other weak fragrances I own (far too many, sadly) it's all but gone by the time I get to my first break (which is just about 3 and a half hours after my initial application). I've used it several times prior to this example, and the results are regrettably the same each time. I have to admit though, since this predates Dylan Blue (and even Sauvage for that matter), I'm thinking Ferrari was onto something special with this one. Because while I say it smells like Dylan Blue (which obviously gets compared to Sauvage), the correct thing to say is that Dylan Blue reminds me of this. It only has a small dose of BdC, but the majority of the initial smell is Dylan Blue. If the performance was beast this could have easily been the talk of the town and in many reviewers top 10 lists. As it has that certain "magical mass pleasing" shower-gel/deodorant formula that has made fragrances like Sauvage, BdC and Dylan Blue so popular.

First off thank you Chicago Tony for including this in a swap! What if I told you that when you combine the scent of watermelon with the scent of coffee magical things happen? ... and that is what I get with this scent.. Ferrari did a real good job with this one.. The bottle is completely opaque with a really cool dark blue color.. Almost resembles a car paint job.. The cap is on the heavier side and wrapped in a leather material.. the attention to detail is great! This is an EDP concentration.. The initial scent I get a blast of citrus quickly followed by a juicy watermelon with coffee notes in the back ground.. The more this dries down it becomes more familiar to me.. In my opinion it smells a lot like Sean John Unforgivable which is a Creed MI “clone”.. I’ve never smelled MI so I can’t say this stuff smells like that.., Overall I really like this scent.. it works well in in warmer weather.. And the wife loves it Overall 8.2/10

This fragrance may not be the longest lasting, especially for an EDP, but I believe the scent is beautiful. The aquatic nuances with the citrus and watermelon just makes it smell really good, Ferrari shot this out of the park! The projection is quite loud off of my skin during the opening, and the sillage isn't too bad either. Not only that this is my most complimented fragrance in my arsenal (I currently have Bvlgari man black orient, bath and body works botanical blend 24, Ferrari black, paco rabanne ultraviolet man, and I've used my dad's Bvlgari aqva marine). As a teenager (I'm 15) this works really well for school, and since I live in the middle east its basically is my signature scent. Cedar Essence will always be dear to my heart as it is my first ever perfume and the first perfume to garner me compliments, even after wearing more complimented/ 'better' fragrances.

I love this one! Cedar Essence holds a special place in my heart my first Ferrari fragrance and first blue fragrance that I tried. Simply put, it smells very pleasant, both fruity sweet (but not too sweet) and aquatic, and ladies love it. I've had a handful of women smell Ferrari Cedar Essence and compare it to other fragrances in the store. They almost always selected it as their favorite of the bunch. The only negative is that it doesn't last long; just a few hours before it becomes a light skin scent. FCE will remain a favorite of mine for any occasion.

A lovely fruity-marine based scent. Cedar essence does share some similarities with the blue mass pleasing fragrances but at the same time I can't point out anything that comes close to this - CE is a great perfume on it's own. For a younger guy I believe it ticks all the boxes since I think it is an easy to like perfume. It gets compliments, it has good performance, it's uplifting and it's safe. I believe that any age men can pull this off. A great fresh, original composition. Ferrari did it right once again with the Essence collection:)

I don't really know what to say about this perfume. I like the smell. it is a strong essence, it has the smell of cedar and sweet aroma, but I have a dissatisfaction. I think it depends on the material of the clothes, but on some clothes, the perfume maintains its smell, but on other clothes, it catches a strong smell of tree, wood, cedar, which, I personally, can't stand. about the persistence I declare myself super satisfied. It has an extraordinary longevity on the skin. I bought it for the price of 40 RON ($ 8.9 / € 8)

First sniffing: Not bad at all A few seconds after application onto the skin: Air freshener alike, cheap frag alike. 2 hours later: You can smell the sea notes.. fresh and a hint of cedar.. It's a love and hate relationship.

The notes seem sincere, not synthetic, great marine/fresh/fruity upon application. They, at times, seem to meld and give an aroma reminiscent of magnolia. Really like.

In 2014, Ferrari has launched another two fragrances to enlarge its Essence Collection, which already had Essence Oud and Silver Essence (2012), in addition to Essence Musk and Leather Essence (2013). This time, the ingredients chosen to give life to the fragrances were cedar and vetiver. Born, then, Cedar Essence (April 2014) and Vetiver Essence (October 2014). Cedar Essence comes in the standard bottle, which was created for this collection, bringing special paints and impeccable finishing, as metal lid and leather. The blue colour had a reason: according to the manufacturer, the Lebanese cedar resin has blue-green colour. In addition, the leaves (needles) of blue cedar were also used in the composition. Therefore, the company used one of its patented colour for the Ferrari GT range: the Blu Tour de France, much requested in models such as the Spider and the California. In the official composition, Cedar Essence carries notes of peppermint, lime, bergamot from Calabria, orange, grapefruit and ginger, on top. In the body of the fragrance, notes of watermelon, needles of blue cedar and oceanic accord. The base has notes of amber, patchouli, Cedar of Lebanon and coffee beans. The manufacturer classifies it as fougère-fruity-aqueous while some websites prefer woody-aromatic. To me, both in theory and in practice, it's very clear that is a woody-fruity. On the skin, the opening is full of life and also juicy, with many nuances of the essential oil of bergamot, in addition to the grapefruit and a touch of ginger. The evolution is slow and very pleasant. About 2 hours after application, a salty nuance emerges as a result of the oceanic accord, called by Ferrari as "blue ocean accord". Then, a light and woody base begins to appear, bringing the cedar, main ingredient of this composition. In particular, I see a few problems in this fragrance. Unlike the musk of Essence Musk, which shines like the star, the Cedar in here is not as strong as expected, losing ground to the fruity notes of the composition. In addition, the base of the fragrance had everything to be magnificent, but the patchouli was lost somewhere along the way and never came back. Coffee beans? I am still looking for. But that does not make Cedar Essence a bad fragrance. Just different from what we think when we see the olfactory pyramid. On the other hand, it is a scent that attracts compliments, fits our climate (Brazil) and is perfect for those who enjoy lighter fragrances for everyday use. And I'm going further: I can see a bigger number of sales for Cedar Essence than for Essence Oud, at least in Brazil. Another important aspect to be highlighted is that the Essence Collection values for raw materials of better quality and this, in no way, means that all the fragrances from the collection are bombs of projection and durability, as many tend to confuse. And for those who always ask me about olfactory references, I'd say that although different, Cedar Essence represents to the Essence Collection what Starwalker represents to Mont Blanc: lightness, elegance and sophistication. In short: the bottle is beautiful, the fragrance has Italian style, it fits our climate and has good lasting. For an Eau de Parfum, deserved greater projection, but nothing that a reapplication can not resolve.

Ferrari Cedar Essence Men EDP opens with a moderate projection of sweet orange, mint, and lime. The opening is very sweet, sharp, and pleasant. It takes a moment for the cedar and sea notes to come up. The cedar needles are a very aromatic wood, green fresh, clean, whereas the sea notes feel more aquatic that oceanic, meaning that they don’t feel salty but airy and fresh. The watermelon joins the blend with an aromatic and fresh note, not as prominent as the orange and mint. As the fragrance commences to dry-down, the initial sharpness starts to dissipate leaving the same and more rounded tones. The cedar makes a fast climb, placing itself side by side with the citrus accords. The coffee is not a prominent note, and the amber acts as a projection accord without changing the nature of the fragrance. Once Ferrari Cedar Essence has reached its full dry-down, it can be summarized as a moderate projection, blue, citrus, woody fragrance with soft green pine and aquatic accords. The fragrance feels airy, blue, casual, common, cool, diurnal, fresh, gentle, modern, marine, masculine, mild, modern, playful, relaxing, sporty, slightly sweet, versatile, woody, and very pleasant. BATCH REVIEWED: 2020. WOW RATING: 8/10. This is a pleasant fragrance, mostly woody and citrus. DISLIKE RATING: 0/10. This fragrance does not contain any offensive notes. UNIQUENESS: 2/10. Blue fragrances are very common. MASS APPEAL: 10/10. This is a high mass-appeal fragrance. PROJECTION: 2/10. About two 2 around the wearer. SILLAGE: 2/10. About three 2 around the wearer. APPLICATION: Four or more atomizations to improve performance. LONGEVITY: 2/10. Low, about 2 hours with 1/2 hour of moderate projection. SEASONS: Spring and summer. OCCASIONS: Formal events, outdoor gatherings, gym, office, business, casual, romantic, dating. This is an office-friendly fragrance. VERSATILITY: 9/10. Blue fragrances like this one are highly versatile during the warmers months. GENDER: Masculine. The spicy and woody accords tilt it to the masculine side but not for much. AGES: Any. RECOMMENDATION: Ferrari Cedar Essence can be found for about $60 which places its cost in the upper quadrant of the blue fragrances. It is a good fragrance but with very poor performance. There are similar options for a much lower cost. Consider alternatives. BLIND-BUY: Yes, it is a very safe fragrance. SIMILAR: Almost every house has a blue fragrance. Here are some examples. Chrome United Men EDT is a green, citrus, and spicy fragrance with moderate projection; Bleu De Chanel EDP is the king of blue fragrances featuring citrus, balsamic, woody, and smoky accords; Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Eau Intense is citrus, spicy, woody and marine fragrance; Versace Dylan Blue is another blue giant featuring citrus, amber, spicy, and aquatic notes; English Laundry Riviera which combines woody, fruity, and spicy accords but its performance is in the low side; Armaf Shades Blue is an inexpensive fragrance with similar notes and slightly better performance. SUMMARY: A moderate to low projection, slightly powdery, mildly sweet citrus, and green fragrance with spicy and woody accords. The fragrance feels airy, clean, diurnal, gentle, inviting, playful, casual, sporty, versatile, zesty, and pleasant.

Light, fresh musky smell. Not so sporty as the notes suggest (watermelon & sea notes) Starts with a slightly sharp soapy & musky smell. The soapiness fades after a few minutes (~5-10mins) & you are left with this bright & fresh smell of musk. The reason of the smell is, in my opinion, the mixture of mostly amber with some patchouli & a hint of citrus freshness. Similar to what some people call "White Musk". What really supports the smell that my nose is picking is that Cedar Essence reminds people of Eau de Iceberg Cedar, which itself reminds people of another Ferrari: "Musk Essence". Overall, a good fragrance from Ferrari, like the rest of the Essence line. Inoffensive with moderate sillage & projection. Safe for gifting or blind-buy. UPDATE: So I bought Cedar Essence along with about 13 sampling vials of different types of fragrances & I noticed that I'm reaching a lot to Cedar Essence. In fact, the most. It's so comfortable, light, & inoffensive fragrance to wear. Reminds of another comfortable, light, & inoffensive fragrance; Davidoff Hot Water Night, despite both being vastly different.

I blind bought this perfume based on the reviews, since most of them are positive. Before buying, I had a very nice experience acquiring Ferrari Noble Fig, which is really expectacular. So a I had a strong expectative with Cedar Essence, waiting for 'pure' notes. Cedar essence isn't bad, we can't say that, but is very generic. For me this was a good reason for deception. It is something like you had ever smelled before. It's wood + wet, something in the same concept of He wood ocean wet (only the concept, not the smell). But the Ferrari creation is more ordinary and generic. Is hard to believe, but Ferrari Essence even reminded me one of the most generic scents I have ever had: Animale Azul. It has a strong blue freshness, quite boring. Differently from some reviews, I don't agree Cedar Essence has low sillage or low longevity. Both are good.

I do like it but it stops short of a love as there is something missing to give it that 'je ne sais quoi'. A bit more fizz from the lime?....a bit more icey fresh from the Mint?....or a bit more saltiness from the sea notes? Whatever your preference it needs something extra to porject it into a the big leagues but it is still a very pleasant summer time beach or casual evening scent. Mild sea breeze with Watermelon and Cedar.....and Mint if you shut your eyes, take a sniff and concentrate really hard. ;o) I do find myself reaching for it even on mild, sunny Autumn days although on these cooler days this almost gives off a of a Calves' Leather fougere....like the interior of a brand new sports car. Maybe that's also what Ferrari were aiming for here (???). Hmmmm.

I’m a woman who enjoys many masculine leaning scents. And I try and not gender perfume, I like testing whatever strikes my interest but this is too masculine on me. From the list of notes I thought it would be something I would enjoy, and I do, just not me wearing it. Very strong lime/mint opening, cedar and patchouli and some other aroma chemicals lend to the ocean spray aquatics that this projects in the drydown. I don’t pick up the watermelon note. I’ve had great luck with the budget friendly Ferrari line of fragrances, and own Noble Fig. Thinking about buying Bright Neroli. Both of those are perfectly unisex. I will try and get my husband to wear the remaining sample, but he’s not a frag head like me. Definitely worth checking out if you are into aquatics.

I tried this today while I was in the mall. This is an ok fresh scent which I like it mostly on the dry down. I detected strong synthetic sea notes, synthetic orange and cedar, not my type actually but I think it Reminds me of Lalique White that I tried last year. Sillage is good for the first two to three hours then it becomes a skin scent. Longevity is also good for a summer scent which lasted on my skin for around 5 hours for two sprays only.

This is a nice, marine fresh scent. You definitely get the water and a citrusy/melon accord, but I also get light mint and amber as it progresses. It reminds me a little of Creed MI although MI smells better but doesn't last as long and lacks a salty note. It's a like not love, but it's inoffensive and inexpensive so a good choice for work or running around.

The drydown to my nose is very much alike Versace Dylan Blue, after about 30mins. The opening is much more fruitier and the watermelon is absolutely there. But after 30mins it is very modern and “shower gel-ish”, at least on me. What I do not get at all is the cedar... maybe they forgot to put it in my bottle?

This is a great everyday scent for men. It's fresh and clean with a nice woody base. The mint and citrus in the opening are really invigorating, and the cedarwood and patchouli in the dry down are warm and inviting. Definitely recommend it!

Just got the mini essence collection.....a dab of this on my hand is saying Tres Nuit & Aspen, but with a hint of MI sweetness, which someone had alluded to earlier Not bad if you're into that sort of aquatic scent

Takes me back to some of the fragrances is older ages. Smells good but not for you if you are looking for something special.

Cedar Essence is my second Ferrari after Noble Fig, the opening is very, very similar to UdV Ulric de Varens, like 90percent similar ! Minty and almost pine-ish, with a slight fougere effect, then a few minutes in and the watermelon and aquatic notes comes in, it smells after that like a typical blue designer scent, with a fruiy twist, like an orange and watermelon combo, there is a slight sweetness also, maybe coming from the coffee, but that's really faint The drydown is well blended, with musky undertones, but a bit flat and generic, however i like this type of grab-and-go cologne, it's innofensive and refreshing for spring or hot summer days, i still didn't find the cedar for the moment though. It smells different on clothes than on skin, better on clohes i'd say, fruitier and more aquatic. With all that being said, the performance is not good for an edp , 2 to 3 hours max, barely better on clohes. I still like it despite that, simple and easy to wear.

After blind-buying a bottle of Cedar Essence based on the prominent notes and some decent reviews, I have to say that I am decidedly ambivalent about this one. It starts out almost like a lightly minted "ocean" scented air freshener -- calone maybe? There's some citrus and melon in there, too, but it takes a few minutes before that synthetic oceanic air freshener accord thankfully recedes. What is left is at first something reminiscent of Antonio Banderas Blue Seduction. Which is to say fresh, semi-fruity and generally pleasant overall. Sillage and projection are average for the first hour or so, then recedes to a very small bubble before disappearing into one's skin. After all of this -- maybe 2-3 hours, it starts to evoke some note similarity to Bleu de Chanel -- and before you self-proclaimed experts get your knickers all in a bunch, do NOT read this as me saying it's in any way identical; only that it shares some noticeable similarities, which is quite common these days. This is probably the emergence the very faint cedar note in combination with coffee/amber/patchouli at its base. I think that if these base notes had been amped up and the calone turned WAY down, this fragrance would be a winner -- but that's not how it was constructed. At best, it's a like... but closer to the back of the "like line" than the front. For the price, it's fairly good. For a beginner or collector, it's not great but also not bad. For a Ferrari Essence series entry, it's a flop. For an EDP (in terms of strength), it's an outright disgrace.

Terrible fragrance. I love ferrari's, got 5 of them and this one is definitely the worst of them all. Sugar water, non-existing frangrance. Seriously, dont get any cedar or anything, maybe watermelon. 1/10

quite a weird scent with conflicting notes that just doesnt work. one of the best examples ive come across of terrible blending

Loving this scent !!! It opens up as a typical blue,powdery scent (in the same family as Bleu de Chanel,Dylan Blue) but this leans slightly more green and shower gely and this is more casual out of the shower smelling !! As it dries down some of that powderiness dissipates and the sea notes and watermelon come in making this more fresh, and more in the aquatic direction. Once the full dry down hits it stays pretty much like the same but more woody and musky (ANd extremely pleasant) !! The mid and dry down is where it’s at for me !!! This is actually the only Blue scent that agreees with my skin chemistry which I’m very pleased with and my wife loves it as well and she’s extremely picky !! (Especially with fresh scents) Performance is actually very good as I get 6-10 hours on my skin with decent projection for 1.5 hrs and then your left with a nice scent bubble for the duration!! Overall rating -7.5 out of 10 !! Kind of a typical scent BUT a typical shower gel scent done WELL and with good performance

I have a couple Cuba cigar frags with more oomph than Cedar Essence.There are some Adidas UEFA similarities, but Adidas projects more than Cedar.The reviews of this Ferrari are all over the map. The production of the juice and composition cannot possibly be so uneven and schizophrenic. I wonder if Cedar Essence contains molecules that some people can't smell, including myself. A few days I get it, most days, I get very little. Even less on skin, a bit more on fabric. I have observed that if I spray it on cloth and leave the room, when I come back after some time, I can smell the perfume! I'm sure my nerves shut it out quickly. I'm going to decant it and add a natural base oil. This often allows such concoctions to bloom. A smudge of lovely real cedar and patchouli and I bet it will be swell.

As rviewer stated below first sniff from cap seems promising. Spraying this juice is nauseating. If axe, rexona or adidas came out with this it wouldbe acceptable. Smells cheap and cloying to my nose. Too much going on in the beginning and it isnt very nice. The dry down is respectable but only just and getting there is quite a trip. Doubting the other essence line items at thispoint. Glad the price was not too bad.

I walked into a perfume store not sure which scent i wanted, I asked the lady attending to me which scent she could recommend. She quickly picked out Ferrari Cedar Essence and in her own words said "this is love in a bottle". I have used this fragrance for a couple of months now and i must say it solicits positive reactions from the females. This is a must have in your collection of scents.

this is a very unique composition, different from the usual designers panorama. it has tricky notes beautifully blended, luxurious, great for hot days and very long lasting! The essence line of ferrari is something really special. i own all the line

Burst of fresh mint and oranges in the opening. Last around 4-5hrs which is not at bad for a summer fragnance. One of the best fragnances from the ferrari house. The bottle looks simple and good. Projection is ok.

Its ok, another blue fragrance, another Versace Dylan Blue, nothing unique. Light blue eau intense or Ferragamo Acqua Essenziale Blu are your best bet for designer blue scents.

I bought this cologne yesterday and so far so good, am getting all sorts of positive reactions from colleagues. The longevity is good and its a perfect scent for the weekend.

I want the whole collection as i love Ferrari perfumes ( i had extreme & i have red power ) , i hope the whole collection will be in egypt soon !!!!!

Ck one summer 2011 if you want find some similar. It's refreshing synthetic but in a good way. Feel like the burst of energy in a botlle.

Blind bought it. AFTER some applications i thought i might like it. But its generic as hell.One of the worst blind buys ever.

I can vouch for the deliciousness of Oud, Silver and Leather....so I have high hopes for this one!
