Notre Dame 15.4.2019

At dawn on April 16, 2019, the fire that engulfed Notre Dame was extinguished. Water jets from firefighters continued to spray the coke. And when the water touches the black wood, white smoke billows out... The faint burning smell that permeated the bedroom immediately brought my thoughts to the location of the incident. Gone are the towering Gothic spires. The feeling I experienced was calm and there was no fire. This smoky smell, on the contrary, is cool. The blackened charcoal still emits a faint fragrance, it wasn't the moment Notre Dame was burning. (Definitely an afterthought.) Water seeps through the crevices of the piled masonry, runs down the unbroken stone vault, and slid on the coke. The water penetrates deep into the ground and nourishes the plants. I thought it was going to show the night Notre Dame was on fire. The moist black charcoal dries slowly in the wind, and the surroundings become bright and smoky. A few drops of sweet orange, musk, Ambrette and patchouli, vetiver condense into a sweet essence, the smell is still fresh, I think of chrysanthemum tea brewed at home. It should be the golden sap cut from the rhizome of the plant...the aroma is clear. During the creative process, the perfumer set three main moments to help with the front, middle and back notes. Notre Dame 15.4.2019 is a completely situational immersive fragrance, which is due to your imagination of the name, to profile and describe the scene image in your mind about the event.

گاهی برای یک هنر باید ایستاد و دست زد حتی اگر اون هنر حادثه تلخی رو به ارمغان بکشه. شاید باید اندکی بیشتر به زندگی نگاه کرد . شاید این رایحه برای شخصی که استشمام میکنه دریچه ای باز کنه به سوی مردگان. اما...مردگان خوشبو . در ابتدا با بوی دودی توام با اتش و خاکستر همراه میشیم که سکوت رو به ارمغان میاره. تغییر نت ها به قدری واضح هست که انگار در حال تماشای یک فیلم از گذشته هستیم. بعد از اون تم دودی بک گراند زمینه میشه ولی نه اون دودی که تاحالا روبرو بودیم باهاش. میگذره و یک رایحه خوش ماجرا برامون روشن میشه. الحق که چقد برگاموت با نت های دیگه قشنگ ترکیب شده. یه رگه های دوری از جورنی رو بعد از چند دقیقه در زمینه دود خاکستر خودش برامون نشون میده و هرچی میگذره بیشتر بهت خوشایند میگه. این عطر شاید سالها و سالها برای خریدارش عمر کنه دلیلشم اینه که این کار رو شاید سالی چند بار اسپری کنی و به خودت اجازه بدی برای استفاده ازش . غیر از این باشه درست نیست! بگذریم... این عطر شاید از معدود عطرهایی هستش که در اولین تست هیچ عیب و ایرادی نتونستم ازش بگیرم . هیچ چیز در این عطر اشتباه نیست

Opens with a salty, peated Islay whisky note, like smelling the rocks glass the day after you had a drink. Sometimes the floral parts of this perfume remind me of cigar smoke. As it sits on the skin, balsamic notes and wilted flowers accompany a cold and dirty incense smoke. It's not like stepping into a church at all, but more of a suggestion of darkness, violence and something a bit unholy. It's what a burning house smells like in your nightmares. In the end, the smoke becomes fainter and fainter and gradually makes space for all the gorgeous woody and flowery in there. After the three-hour mark, you are left with a deep but hard-to-localise musky spice. I love it and wear it as armour sometimes. The saltiness in the opening, followed by the sheer power of the smoke, keeps me coming back, but I do wish that the performance was better, as after 6-7 hours, it blends into my skin.

Something about this is so nostalgic. I love just wearing this around the house and catching whiffs. Amazing stuff

Mesquite smoked ham. Then mesquite smoked muguet. Then mesquite smoked coriander. I’m not being intentionally reductive or terse. There is quite a lot going on in this perfume. Mesquite smoke is quite a complex aroma, as are ham, muguet, and coriander. Pinning them all down and breaking them apart into their constituent notes gives you DVND’s DNA. Needless to say, there is plenty of smoke in this perfume, and, generally speaking, it’s a frankincense smoke. However, the frankincense has been given herbal green facets, an anisic facet, and just a touch of fruitiness. Lay this over a musky, unctuous, and semi sweet muguet and ambrette heart et voila: smoked ham. Outside of the amalgam lies the coriander, a standalone sweet and cool woody note that seems to buttress the rest of the perfume without really being a part of it. It’s odd, but in an appealing way. The dry down keeps to the theme but presents a smokey and woody vetiver and woods combination that leans quite green, salty and peppery. As is typical of my experience with Sorcinelli so far, the performance and the durability of the perfume, and the definition of the accords, is underwhelming. But it is pretty interesting and certainly unique. I don’t know that I particularly want to smell of it, like I’ve been in a smokehouse turning over pig parts all day, but at least no one would notice unless they get their nose right up to my skin.

Well described in severalprevious reviews, so no need to re-invent the wheel. In a nutshell: ultra smoky incense and birch tar in the opening, with some freshness in the middle notes, and softer, slightly sweeter woody notes in the base. Nice 'inverted' pyramid, and more interesting than many houses, but Sorcinelli set the bar high with his previous creations, and compared to these, it's 'just' good. Still, interesting.

the top notes have been reversed with the tail notes. that said, this time Filippo liked it halfway. he wanted to set three main moments in this perfume, the triggering event, the water on the stones and the essence that remains. there is not only incense in this fragrance, it is smoke and citrus. yes, I am the one who remains after, in my humble way, to make a confusion out of the way. 7/10 good performances.

The opening impression is of liquorice, or at least something acerbic and spicy, then the fragrance shifts into a grassy mode which evolves into a lingering smoky dryness. In the Sorcinelli canon, it feels like a minor work: a foray into the 'per fumum' ('through smoke') story-telling territory developed by Leo Crabtree at Beau Fort, harnessing the olfactory facets of smoke to evoke the scene after the fire at Notre Dame in April, 2019. On my skin its impact fades too soon: just the odd hint of incense, like the burning embers of the Cathedral spire.

Incredibly long lasting and technically pleasant- but to me there is this note I can’t identify that blends so sickly into my skin :,) but incredibly interesting in the bottle or on other skins. Smokey, woody in a truly ancient way, and surprisingly floral!

I see where some people can say it’s smell nostalgic like a old smell but doesn’t smell old the incense kinda ruins it for me like a sharp aspect with woods and flowers smells darker then the notes say it’s ok

super smoky, ebony wood and leather. I can sense the layers in this, but I can't find it in my heart to say anything positive. I can see they were going for something mysterious with the incense and wood, but honestly - it's really giving me smoked barbecue flavoured chips.

Sorcinelli #1 - Grime and dirt, a Cobbler's workshop. When you go down the niche rabbit hole, or to be in line with the current tiktok trends, “ultraniche” rabbit hole, you are bound to stumble upon Filippo Sorcinelli’s creations. In my case, it was downright inevitable because im naturally drawn to church inspired art, and this house embraces that fully. Since i appreciate more understated and subtle stylistics, i found his presentations a bit too in your face, borderline tacky and gimmicky. Despite my stance towards his presentations, i’ve always imagined the fragrances themselves to be larger then life, artistic and in a way, monolithic in nature. Notre Damme 15.4.2019 is my first dip into this fragrance house and i was not wrong in regards to my expectations but this one is more wearable and friendly to the nose then i’ve expected. Indeed its not an everyday fragrance, it debutes with a rubbery accord similar to non-sweet licorice and leather that developes into a tarry woods scent. It is accompanied by subtle spices and a generic, nondescript type of incense. This fragrance taught me that the notes of incense and olibanum are not the same, they aren’t interchangable terms. Olibanum is the one that i love, with its resinous stickyness, but incense can be everything that has even a slight smokey, semi-sweet woody aroma. Im surprised to see the leather note not mentioned because it reminds me of a cobblers dirty workshop during the Industrial Revolution, where the smell of leather permeates everything. At the end of its lifetime, the spicy notes are the last that remain. Notre Dame 15.4.2019 has no horror note, no accord added for shock-value, doesn't drive your nose into an existential crysis. In a sense, this slightly dissapointed me because from watching countless tiktok “ultraniche edits”, one would expect such fragrances to smell so alien and different that it would open doors in this hobby that you didn’t even know existed and make you question what can be achieved in regards to our olfactory senses. I am confusing in this regard because im not into unwearable fragrances, when it comes to wearing fragrances but when it comes to art or collection pieces, sometimes i expect the unexpected. Would i recommend it for the everyday, non enthusiast? No, but for perfumistas, there are no monsters here. Im curious of his other creations tho, who knows, maybe this one is a relatively tame offering in his portofolio. Or perhaps Sorcinelli’s creations aren’t about the bizarre and i missjudged the house. I don't want to end my review on a bad note because its not my intention, since at the end of the day, its a very nice, high quality dark masculine scent with many layers.

Fireworks! 5+ hours in... i smell fireworks! with that smoky (not incensy) fired up. I get that coriander, galbanum, basil, orange, & ambrette.
