It’s late February and were flirting with eighty-degree weather in southern Arizona. Wearing Ruah in the Sonoran desert at 80 degrees is a completely different experience than wearing it indoors or in colder air. In temperate weather, Ruah can feel ecclesiastical and restrained incense curling upward in the dim San Xavier Del Bac Mission church, old world woods polished and shadowed. But in the dry desert heat, the composition opens its lungs. The resins warm quickly on my skin and expand outward; what was once austere becomes almost radiant. The Filippo frankincense brightens and turns salty and mineral, less smoky and more sun-bleached, like heated stone and wind moving through arroyos. At 80 degrees, the desert air is dry enough that sweetness never turns syrupy. Instead, I notice a sharper delineation between the balsamic core and the airy top. There’s a subtle peppered edge that flickers in and out, almost electric in the mid day heat, while the woody base feels smoother, more diffusive. The extrait concentration doesn’t become heavy; rather, it projects in a controlled aura that feels lifted by the high-altitude arid climate. Humidity would suffocate this fragrance for me. The desert gives it structure. What surprises me most is how contemplative it remains despite what the painters and photographers call the “clarity of the sun” down here in Tucson. Ruah doesn’t collapse into body odor smelling sweat or resin overload. It feels meditative against the vastness, incense meeting cactus spine and warm dust. The dryness of the Sonoran landscape strips away any ornamental excess and leaves behind something elemental: evaporated salty, recently mined copper mineral, Creosote Bush resinous, quietly saguaro sacred. At 80 degrees, Ruah doesn’t melt. It breathes. Oorah. Ruah.

Since discovering it this summer, it’s become a personal favorite, my go-to "citrus bomb." From the very first spray, it delivers a zesty, lemony punch that feels both bright and everlasting. Unlike most citrus fragrances, which are notorious for fading quickly, Ruah lingers beautifully, staying ozonic, salty, clean, and refreshing for hours on the skin. On paper, it leans a bit sharp, almost like lemon scented cleaning products. But on skin, it transforms breathing life into its notes just as its name suggests. Ruah embodies breath; air that animates the lifeless. It shines especially on extremely hot, sweaty days, cutting through heaviness with a fresh, invigorating lemon zest that feels both purifying and uplifting. Each time I wear it, I catch myself constantly bringing my hands to my nose just to keep enjoying it.

I'm actually in love with this! to me, this opens very, very lemony. the lemon stays thorough the entire life of this fragrance. after about 30 minutes of wearing it, it turns very metallic and metal like, in such a good way that i love. i pick up on hits of the sea like notes but they are very subtle. so, this is basically just a very metal, fresh, and metallic lemon, perfect for the summer and spring. it feels very futuristic and advanced to me. it is pretty synthetic but not in a bad way. this lasts very long on my skin, around 11 hours. it projects very heavily for the first 4-5 hours, then it starts to calm down. also, i absolutely love these bottles!

Love this, but the calone can be a BIT strong.

Def a lemon bomb, sour lime pie but the synthetic touch reminds me more of an Axe deodorant than a walk under lemon trees, maybe I should revisit it again in summer.

The inspiration behind this fragrance draws from one of the most beautiful and significant passages of the Old Testament: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.” There is only the primordial and rational principle—God—and the ocean in potential, over which the Spirit of God hovers to initiate creation. In many cosmogonic myths, water is the origin of everything, symbolizing the unknown, the formless, the plastic matter capable of becoming—and absorbing—anything. Here, the sea is not realistic; it is a pre-sea. Ribero here allows no middle ground; the Atmosphere line is an experimental range that makes extensive use of synthetic notes, and in this case, two of them are even listed explicitly in the fragrance pyramid for a reason. Calone and ambrocenide evoke an excessive sea, one that becomes utterly alien and synthetic—again, a pre-sea or even a hyper-sea. A dark, abyssal ocean that would remain unseen if not for the Ruah (the Spirit) of God, which here is represented by lemon. The citrus opening is bracing and rendered caustic by the combination with ambrocenide, while as it evolves, it becomes resinous and almost caramelized—thanks to the elemi resin. The effect is reminiscent of elemi fumigation, for those wondering what form the incense takes here. In the heart of the scent, rain emerges: calone and mineral notes effectively create a petrichor impression (for the ultimate expression of rain in a fragrance, refer to Moderate Rain, from the same Ruah line). A little later in Genesis: “And God said, ‘Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear.’ And it was so. God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters He called Seas.” And this is precisely the base of the fragrance—a mineral and aquatic fusion. Sky and sea. The water cycle begins. Rain falls upon the earth and flows into the sea.
