Woods. Aromatic and dry, something prickly in it - like pine needles they say - yes!, same time - sensing slight dampness - as in forest with live woods.. how can it be at the same time!? fascinating for me.. It is great to have a list of ingredients: something I always liked, but would not guess correctly and just "tortured" myself- Peony! Not loud perfume - even subdued if you like. Sophisticated yet natural. Incredible longevity. In my opinion- masculine scent, not unisex. I went in thoughts for a moment when found that this is the choice of Roman Papa Francis (I've found it while visiting Rome and Vatican).. well, I like this progressive Papa so this fact finally added some interesting edge to the affect this perfume causes (aren't they all should?). At first I didn't appreciate the given name. I do now, over time: it does encourage those "waves" in emotional state - from serenity and contemplation to desire and determination. Music like that. I would offer to experience it by not judging on one/first whiff. Please give it a time. Although the sudden and first encounter with this fragrance is good on its own as well. Overall - outstanding perfume. One of my absolute favorites. Thank you.

This is a very nice aromatic outdoorsy scent. Some citrus, vetiver and woods. This is a very linear fragrance. It's good for invigorating you. I find its not sweet enough to be unisex. I'd love it on a guy. For an extrait it is not that strong but I suspect it's more down to the notes in this. The wood notes not surprisingly are the ones that hang around the longest. Moderate silage and longevity.

Jalapeño vetiver with peony. And I LOVE it. Sycomore smells like cigarette and Encre Noire is too masculine and dark. I can catch the similarities but this one has them beat.

Filippo Sorcinelli's ecclesiastically-themed perfume brand UNUM seems like the definition of niche, but it is given more context by his earlier work as a designer of custom sacred vestments at his atelier LAVS, as well as being a classical musician. Steeped in Italian Catholic tradition with more than a little inspiration given by classical and high church music, UNUM's brief is utterly compelling to me. I was raised Catholic, and I have a great appreciation for Italian culture, art and history. Symphonie Passion was one of only two UNUM decants available. It is a moody woody scent, vetiver-dominant, inspired by the virtuoso organist Marcel Dupré, composer of the symphony from which this perfume takes its name. An organist himself, Mr. Sorcinelli was inspired to create this after playing an organ that Dupré had played previously. The symphony was composed exactly a century ago, and tells the story of the life of Jesus in four movements. While I wouldn't describe this scent itself as symphonic, it brings to mind a dark church, complete with wooden pews and a stone exterior. SP opens with a light lemon note, the perfect prelude to the vetiver that follows. Lemon pairs extremely well with vetiver when done well, adding some brightness to counteract the astringent quality associated with vetiver, and in turn, the normally sharp, acidic lemon is tempered by the woodiness. A perfectly complementary pair, this accord is aromatic and somewhat restorative. The slightly aquatic peony marries nicely with it, adding a soft, aquatic floral edge. The vetiver that follows - the main event - is grassy and dry, not too astringent in its own right. It is high-quality, reminiscent of good vintage vetivers like Guerlain Vétiver, my go-to gold standard. There is a greenness to it initially, but it becomes steadily more woody and dry as it progresses. There is a mineralic quality to this scent as it progresses, usually not my favourite thing, but here it is subtle and thematically appropriate. It reminds me of stone walls in the rain, evocative of stone exterior walls and heavy church gates. Conceptually, it is like the wood and nails of the crucifix, but in a subtle, sterile manner. It melds well with the other notes from an olfactory perspective too. I don't usually like cashmeran, but it is put to good use here, contributing to the scent without overpowering the other notes. It becomes slightly musky as it fades, with the vetiver-led woody accord persisting until final fade. Sillage and longevity are moderate. It is a unisex, year-round daytime scent, wearable despite being high-concept. Wonderfully melancholic, this is an olfactory sketch of an old church. 4/5.

Symphonie-Passion is Sorcinelli's hommage to one of his heroes - French organist and composer Marcel Dupré, whose composition of the same name is a profound meditation on key events in the life of Jesus. It was based on improvisations on ancient hymns and chants, a skill that Sorcinelli himself honed as an organist and has since adapted to his work as a perfumer. Thus the industry's traditional citrus-veitiver combination (familiar from Guerlain's Vetiver, amongst others) is expanded in this perfumer's hands to embrace floral and smoky/woody notes, interwoven with the main theme, to parallel the way a dry and dusty instrument can project sweetness and light, through the artist's mystical concentration and intense creativity. Inspired by the twin meanings of the word "Passion" ('the suffering of Jesus' and 'barely controlled emotion'), Sorcinelli threads successive notes into his olfactory composition. A fleeting floral opening (desire awakened) is followed by a shock of prickly vetiver (desire thwarted or denied) and an enduring woody dry down (pain endured in the service of love) which then fades away into an ambiguous silence (leaving unanswered the question, 'Is this pain unbearable or can it be transformative?) One observer of the composer at work was moved to say “When Dupré improvised, he prayed, whereas any other organist improvises, but does not pray.” It is tempting to suggest that Sorcinelli's work at its best is a kind of prayer, arising from improvisation: a series of tortured attempts to give meaning to art and life through the medium of perfumery. The "press release for the brand" quoted at the top of the page is an unintelligible philosophical pastiche ,which seems to be saying "Buy this perfume and you are buying into an esoteric worldview." This is intellectual snobbery and frankly off-putting. Sorcinelli 's authentic voice is to be found, not in this gobbledygook, but in the haunting melancholy this fragrance portrays, as Death awaits Resurrection.

Filippo is also a musician, more properly an organist. He regularly holds concerts all over the world and inserts, in addition to the conventional repertoire, the art of improvisation. Among the famous inventors of this discipline is Marcel Dupré, organist who lived between 800 and 900, born in Rouen (Normandy) and lived in Paris. Filippo dedicates the fifth fragrance to Dupré and his Symphonie-Passion, four-stroke opera born as an improvisation during a tour in the United States and transcribed in three years by Dupré himself in 1921. Considered almost "non-playable" music due to its difficulty, Symphonie-Passion evokes exactly the smell that Philip warned when he himself, on a journey to Rouen, approached the lighted organ of the basilica of St. Ouen where Marcel Dupré was present at the executions of his father and where he later returned as a great established organist, recognized all over the world. That damp and dusty wind, fresh and spicy musky, which also evokes mechanical and wood gears and coming from inside the instrument, is fixed in the memory of Filippo, who proposes it as extrait de parfum. Flacon and stopper are faded to remember just the material and the color of the body of that organ. Well he did it. I smell a woody, damp instrument in a church. Oiled gears,smell of a cashmere sweater not used for some time. every note is present but in such a way as not to overpower the other. sometimes there are scents of lemon but light, wet wood, cedar wood but not invasive, a vetiver not clean as in ennui noir, very sandal but also light here ... slight smell of peony ... little imperceptible moss. non-acre lemon, cashmere, and damp wood win over everything gently. a smell of an old church bench mixed with a little used musical instrument, the smell of a priest who confesses you, perhaps the smell of a confessional. a mystical, meditative scent. another great masterpiece. not a sillage bomb but a lot of longevity. 8/10. only applause.

Symphony-passion-pastoral, I might add. Very soft, very tender, despite the design chosen for the occasion... The lemon is very, very, very light. For my part, I have a vetiver-floral-rose, softly musky, not necessarily sandalwood. It reminds me (certainly wrongly, from a historical point of view) of Monet-style parasols, or even a Lily in the Valley (without the lily) landscape of love and pain. On the top notes, we find that little green "walnut" aspect that's very present in several of his other fragrances. I don't know if this will become a signature scent for me, but it may be a good entry into F.S. for those who are afraid of his more "violent" creations.

My first thought was 'wow this smells so organic'. Maybe this pun was intended. Organ-ic. I read Sorcinelli captured the scent of an organ, but I can best compare this to the inside of a classical guitar. Woody, metallic & dry. I mainly pick up vetiver, musk and cedar, but the top notes of lemon and peony are there just to create an illusion, not as much as independent notes. Some of my other associations were the smell of a liqueur made from unripe walnuts (called nocino in Italian, but a lot of countries have their variations) and the smell of dried leaves. Thus it has a very autumnal character, best suited for those melancholic, introspective days.

Very bitter, green and fresh. You have this smell of very last moment of a drydown of Layton here boosted to max. Vetiver and woods hard to distinguish. There’s musk and bitterness on it. That’s it. Kind of interesting but very linear. Challenging and not a blind buy for newbies.

Very, very dark and gothic. It strongly resembles Encre Noire, except that it lasts much longer. Maybe a bit more earthy, with less freshness and more sourness. Can definitely smell capsicum after a while, as @zzzCoopy noticed. As a fan of Encre Noire, can recommend

This was the Parfum Extrait. A little wild, or, uhm, passionate, in the first minutes, and then it settled into what it is. Which is nothing groundbreaking or original, but just very well blended. You’ve got an old-fashioned woody/musky men’s cologne with a barbershop vibe. Yes, it is a touch more interesting and bracing, but this has been done so many times in lightly different ways that you really won’t miss anything by going with another perfumer, unless, this sort of scent is your go-to style, and you want to widen or refine your selection. Unfortunately, it began to vanish from my skin faster than some could commute to work, but maybe different skin will have different luck. It was quite strong when applied to cotton clothing, and maybe too strong for the shirt collar, even possibly headache inducing. I have trouble picking the cedar out because it is so well blended, but I feel that it is in there. I certainly respond to it like I do with cedar, and that is by naturally taking an overly deep inhalation when holding it close.

شروع‌ ای ادویه ای ،چرمی،چوبی و دودی رایحه چوبی_دودی وتیور رو میشه در شروع به خوبی دریافت کرد که یک وایب چرمی نسبتا پررنگ ای همراهی اش می کنه ترکیب ادویه ها رو به سختی میشه جداسازی کرد و نُت خاصی رو ازش بیرون کشید اما سَبک و تازه نیست و چیزی شبیه به ترکیب میخک و جوز و فلفل و ...است که ترشی اسیدی از لیمو رو هم در پس زمینه میشد حس کرد قطعا شباهت هایی با لالیک مشکی داره خصوصا در فضای چوبی_آروماتیک که اینجا هم ترکیب نُت ها رایحه ای سرو مانند رو ایجاد کرده اما وجوه تمایز کمی هم ندارند و میشه 50 تا 60 درصد شبیه دونست شاید قر و اطوار پشت شیشه عطر یا شخصیت سورچینلی و نحوه ارائه محصول‌اش باعث خفن پنداری در مورد این عطر بشه و به به و چه چه بکنن براش اما برای من یه عطر خوش ساخت نسبتا ساده و تکراری بود که ارزش این مبلغ رو نداره و پرفورمنس جالب‌ای هم نداره معضل درب باتل رو تو این عطر هم داریم و خوب چفت نمیشه مثل خیلی از عطرهای دیگه‌ی این برند *************** scent:7/10 longevity:6/10 sillage:5/10 purchase value:2/10 ******* overall:5/10

Was quite disappointed, Filippo Sorcenelli is one of my favourites, but this to me just opened as Reliqvia and dried down as But Not Today. Felt a little thrown together from premade accords; and less of a project or piece in its own right.

unless you're a vetiver lover this isn't anything worthy its just a slightly elevated classic men's vetiver perfume so basic i even forgot i have a sample somewhere and how it smelt writing this down to remind myself

Too much vetiver mixed with the lemon just makes it way too sharp. The sharpness is compounded by the woods and leaves it smelling too rustic. Although I can see this becoming useful for layering.

Very poetic description but all I can smell is burnt herbs and wood. On my skin Symphony Passion is very one-dimensional, smells the same from the opening to the dry down. Underwhelming.

Had such high hopes for Symphonie Passion but eventually pangs of disappointment emerged in most every way. Filippo's design concept for this scent touched on genius for a one man show operation, where similar enterprises could not even come close to what this perfumer can achieve. Case in point the incense infused Lavs, which might just a modern reference point for what is possible with incense scents. As for Symphonie Passion, if only the end result could have picked up on a little more zest , some more pep in a luscious way, to match the "Passion" in the title, then this scent could have been spectacular & a full bottle decision in mere moments. Instead, what we got was a fairly linear, subdued woodsy lemon vetiver blend similar to Encre Noire. Dry, distant and austere. Luckily the longevity and sillage is minimal as this could have a scrubber given it's sharp and often abrasive hard edges. Much like a puppy you lean in to cuddle, only to be greeted with a muffled growl. A scent that can become tiresome and boring after a short time of wearing. Just if only the whole composition had included some more curves, more flesh on the bones so to speak so giving some respite from the ordeals of penitent passion which is quite possibly what the perfumer is trying to achieve. 5/10

Sweet peony, musks and woods, kept sharp thanks to the vetiver support. I'm not sure the result is successful here... results being a synthetic smelling floral fragrance. Not a fan, even if I admit that it's quite original. The comparison to Encre Noire or Terre d'Hermes for each and every fragrance that has a vetiver or orange note starts to get really boring. Not similar to EN, not even remotely...

It does start out with an initial blast of Encre Noire. But it quickly morphs into something more like Eau D`Italie - Bois d’Ombrie. Personally, it's a pass for me, but I can see how fans of Bois d’Ombrie might find this one appealing.

Like other parfumes from the UNUM collection, I love the scent much, but the only thing I am deeply disappointed about them is the week sillage and week longevity.

a mish-mash of chanel sycamore sans tobacco note and encre noire without cypress...very little lemon and peony and nearly all vetiver, cedar and iso e-super...

Symphonie Passion is basically a riff on the Encre Noire / Sycomore theme. Less sharp and synthetic than the former but also less plush than the latter. It's like if Sycomore was released as part of the Hermessence line. It's a diaphanous, kind of watercolor-y take on a modern woody-vetiver with distant watery floral facets. It's neither groundbreaking nor novel but I'm admittedly a big sucker for airy and fresh woody vetivers so I admit I like this one as well. Scent-wise there's really not much else to describe or say but there are a couple more aspects of this fragrance I'd like to point out. 1) With a name such as Symphonie Passion I honestly expected a big floral and as much as I generally struggle with big florals, my mind still refuses to connect the scent-profile of this composition to its name / concept. 2) This is a light and airy / transparent vetiver which is something that clashes with the fact it's marketed as an Extrait De Parfum. Nothing about Symphonie Passion is even vaguely classifiable as an extrait. Downline: I like Symphonie Passion, I really do but it's conceptually not coherent so, in the end, I'll probably pull the trigger only if I'll ever stumble on a serious deal because even though I like it, let's face it, the market offers loads of extremely similar fragrances at a fraction of its price. Rating: 6/10

Amazing how this smells like Encre Noire. It seems like the creator wanted it to be a niche version of EN, which I would support, however it does not bring anything new to the fragrance world, as we've seen such vetiver based scent many times before. Also, on the projection and longevity side, it did not do enough for me. I would say that EN has the same P&L, even being "only" EDT while Unum claims their creation is an extrait de parfum. Sorry, I don't see it. If it was stronger I would even be inclined to buy it as I love EN but would prefer a better, niche version with less Iso e super and stronger P&L. However, this does not justify its price tag at all (180 euro for 100 ml). Buy yourself Encre Noire if you want to smell like this, or spend that amount of money on a Chanel Sycomore, it is in a league of its own.

Earthy vetiver within a cashmere in peony flavor. Sweet yet sour vetiver it is an. It just hits back & forth with that peony vetiver and woody citrus. It's like a woody cologne but i can't and won't classify it as a cologne cause it's much better than that usual boring cologne. I don't like vetiver but this one here is just amusing and very addictive cause it has some woody sweet in it. Very good.

A green vetiver with more green than vetiver. A lighter version of Encre Noir with a good deal more green notes. That would be my best and most simple review and descriptor. Not for me. When they say peony is a note, I feel like its the scent of the juice from the stems.

I love it. It's a perfume that brings to mind the Woods and the outdoors, green things growing, trees, plants... It has some similarity with Absinth Nasomatto, same nose of course ;0) Has good lasting power too.

real light and kind of boring. I smell the vetiver first with lemon and some kind of wood. I have coven from Andrea Maack for my vegetal wet root fragrance. not enough here.

Vetiver, wood, soily, medium projection & longevity i got complimented wearing it i think this one you have to try for yourself and see how it works for you :)
