Tweed

This review is for the "perfumed body spray." My canister says it's made by Taylor of London and is made in England, so that's another company that can take credit for Tweed (who can keep up with all the mergers, buy outs, take overs, etc.?) I like this scent very much - it's not a big powerhouse fragrance but it's very pretty and lasts and lasts. It smells like moss and grass and lily of the valley of all things. I know, grass and l.o.v. are not listed but that's the impression I get. It doesn't smell so woody to me (thank you, Yatagan and Lotion Pompeia for being such diametrically-opposed, gloriously realistic and fantastical woods and forests) but more like a grassy field or prairie of wild flowers. Gentle and romantic. I had read other reviews on other sites that say this is an "old lady" fume. Nothing could be further from the truth - it's really very "youthful" and "carefree." I could see a girl or young woman enjoying this very much. I think I would have gone mad for this when I was younger and I wish I knew about Tweed before. As far as the whole thing about the "old lady perfumes" are concerned - I've come to believe from reading hundreds of reviews of many different fragrances that the definition of "old lady smelling" is anything that does not smell like a drink that comes with an umbrella. How boring! I musta been born old and that's cool with me.

my mother wore this in the 1970s and 1980s. It was nuclear grade but good and well blended. I was feeling nostalgic this week and bought a bottle of the Taylor of London version. it is 100% not the same scent, so distant as to not trigger a sense memory. However, I like this better. It is a very wearable aldehydic green thing with a clean hair note. it strikes me as the perfume equivalent of period movie about the 1970s; it's excellent and enjoyable but not 100% equivalent. this could easily be worn by a man or woman. EDIT: Robert Piguet Futur is a near clone of the OG and worth every penny if you are feeling nostalgic. even the tiny differences are in keeping with the spirit of the original.

I think like the reviewer below, I will keep a bottle of tweed in my Rover (200) although I christened 'him' roy, a few squirts of this very english scent on his interiors will go down a treat ;o) I just bought a bottle of this recently, as I remembered my mum used to wear it a lot when I was young, in the Eighties. I couldn't wait to rediscover it. I adore the scent, I have it on now and can't stop sniffing myself. I'm not sure if I love the actual scent or the connotations connected to it? it smells talky, soft, but not too soft, feminine with a smidge of masculine. I will wear it to work tomorrow and see if I wear it well?! Aww, Mum, you beautiful creature...

Received my 2 to 2 1/2 ounces of vintage Tweed today. It is a lovely woody fragrance. I don't find it dirty at all. Some say it reminds them of thrift store clothing. I don't smell that one bit. I wore Tweed as a teen and loved it then. I will have to get back with sillage and longevity info. If I approved of Fox Hunting, this is what I would wear. I do not approve because blood sports offend me and make me somewhaat ashamed of the human race. I realize only an elitist few Fox Hunt. Well, the longevity is good. I have not really tested enough to speak about its sillage.

Tried this one again today and I have to withdraw all statements about old peoples homes etc this is a beautiful, elegant scent lovely, mossy and dark like a twilit wood with nothing cloying or vulgar about it. Don't believe the hype of other expensive fragrances - I prefer this to Mitsouko any day of the week!! It has a very natural 'English Countryside' smell to it and I'm going to buy some in September, ready for the Autumn!

I have the perfumed talc, and I really love putting it on after an evening shower. Cool and spicy, and because it's a scent I remember from childhood, it's like the fragrance equivalent of comfort food. It's very soothing and relaxing.

My Mother once referred this as "common," therefore, I never wore it - until recently.....it's sooooo good.

I have used the original in a new bottle (long ago in another galaxy) and, more recently, have had a small bottle with a few drops of the original. Today I happened across a bottle of the Taylor of London version (made in China!) in a thrift store. So I got a chance to compare them. The original I have now seems to me to have more lavender and woody elements. It is quite concentrated because it is old. The current version I found has more floral elements, as well as something a teensy bit bubblegum, that I often detect in modern spray scents. I like it in the air, on wrists and fabric, but hours later, I still pick up a faint whiff of "chemical" smell that doesn't work well with human animalic smell. I wonder if it is an artificial attempt at Ylang-ylang. Still.....it is interesting.

Wow, this is just wonderful. From the name, you'd think it would be heavy and dark and clunky, all orthopedic shoes and stuffy-tweedy suits, but it so isn't. For me, it's light and elegant, intensely feminine without being hit in the face with a bouquet of flowers. Gorgeous. Slightly outdoorsy, only vaguely sweet, possibly from a hint of lavender. Maybe a little masculine, but it only serves to highlight the femininity of this perfume. There's citrus at first that I like, but it quickly fades and I get lavender and sun-warmed grasses. There's other florals but they're so well-mixed and balanced that I can't pick out any particular one. The impression I get is of a beautiful sunny summer day, still cool before the sun heats up everything. As it dries down it gets...hm. Shadier? Woodier, spicier, definitely. There's my beloved sandalwood and a bit of patchouli, but it's not at all heavy; it's light and green, somehow, very fresh. It has vanilla as well, but it's not an aggressive vanilla, more a polite one, "Oh, hello, would you care for a cup of tea?" Tweed is listed as floral woody musky, but I get no sense of musk here. Definitely woody, possibly aromatic and spicy. It lasts for *hours* on my skin and days on my clothing, far longer than many expensive couture fragrances I've tried. Anyway. This is a lovely perfume, very sophisticated and elegant and feminine. There's no comparison with the fruity and candy scents so popular now; this has depth and presence. If you're looking for something far different than most scents out there, I recommend that you give Tweed a try. It isn't expensive, smells wonderful, lasts for ages. And no one will be wearing anything else like it.

(Taylor of London current version). This is perfectly named. It is the kind of scent Stiffy Byng would wear along with her tweeds on a lovely Spring morning as she walked her dog, pausing to impulsively push a policeman into the village pond. It has that kind of air to it: wealthy, well bred, confident but fresh and playful. No stuffy London drawing rooms or parties, but riding and long walks and tea in the garden. Expensive soap and face powder and a light breeze carrying woods, rich earth and garden flowers. I can't compare it to its Lentheric vintage, but the dull looking boxes in the chemists, exiled from the locked glass cabinets to the shelf under the "If you like, you'll love..." bottles, conceal a treasure. Mild sillage, great longevity, beautiful scent.

One of the few most timeless classic fragrances I have ever worn has been Tweed. It has a classic English elegance about it. I was given a bottle of Tweed by my Aunt when I was about eight years of age. She never liked it. I felt really special all grown up infact! Since then it has been a favourite of mine. As well as receiving it as a gift, I have given Tweed as gifts to family and friends. Always a classic and chic fragrance. Its the epitome of an English Lady Rover. I espcially like the woody notes, patchouli, sandalwood. It is a sensuous and feminine fragrance. I wear it most days. In the autumn, in summertime. Its light enough for anytime. I keep a 15ml size bottle in the glove compartment of my Rover 400. Tweed is indeed 'The Finishing Touch '.

My grandma Grace signature perfume was "Tweed." Growing up I remember when I would hug her or she would go out with my grandpa, she always had this on. Before she passed away, my mom purchased this perfume for her for Mother's day. For what ever reason, my mom held on to the bottle for my grandma. When she passed away in 2002, my mom held on to the bottle. It wasn't until yesterday April 27, 2012 when my mom surprised me with my grandma's last bottle of "Tweed." I closed my eyes and took a whiff of the sweet aroma. I pictured my grandma smiling and hugging me.

This reminds me of Safari or outdoors smell without smelling ferral. I do like it. When I was younger it smelled too old but I am in my 30's now and I think it is a very natural smell with enough complexity so you don't just smell like shampoo or baby's bum. I find it is a smooth powdery but leathery smell but fresh all at the same time. It never turns stale.

Just re-discovered this beauty. Contains all my favorite notes. Long lasting, earthy, fresh. An alternative when I don't want amber under note. Had to be past caring what other people think to buy Tweed as it suffers from being too inexpensive and accessible. For once you get far more than you pay for.

card test bottle looks similar wow this will give you a shock if you dont like scents similar to this... but its a good entrance scent to 'these types'. totally mossy and earthy, almost aftershave-ish in the background, old skool for sure. give it a whirl and layer it, to make it more modern,

When I was young I got this as a hand-me-down perfume. I thought it smelled like dusty old clothes that someone found in an attic. I wore it exactly once. I would love to rediscover this again and see if I still have the same opinion. I haven't seen it anywhere in years.

A handsome dowager in olive coloured threads, a little smooth from wear in parts; brown suede elbow patches, soft and supple; racing green wellies and hand-me-down brogues; walking a Red Setter or riding at a gentle trot. Perfect for getting sweaty in the countryside.

I agree with Linley. This scent is perfectly named. It is a dignified classic that should be worn with crisp outfits-- perhaps houndstooth. Complex scent, and the spices prevail. Very British and clean. Love it.

I pulled this up on Google and all of the reviews are from men? I thought this was considered a feminine fragrance? Weird..

love the earlier version - is there any thing currently made that comes close? I would welcome your suggestions..

This is basically a better Aramis, only stronger and cheaper. A unisex classic for those who like chypres.
