Útilykt Spray - 66°Norður x

An absolute masterpiece. I was shocked to see Jónsi as the nose behind this fragrance, as I've been a Sigur Ros fan for over a decade. Unsure if he's done more work for Fischersund, but Fragrantica's profile for him shows only this product... This fragrance feels like the work of a lifelong veteran of the fragrance industry - someone with an unbelievably refined nose, and a gift for plucking scents from the fabric of reality, blending and bottling them with faultless subtlety yet an unabashed confidence. Often, the "story" copy on websites from the fragrance house can be... verbose, overstated, or sometimes wholly inaccurate. Fischersund, as a fragrance house in general, are one of the few whose fragrances perfectly match the descriptions they provide. However, in this case, it veers firmly into shockingly accurate, to almost an uncanny degree. Every. Single. Note. is present and clearly detectable. If you've hiked in Westfjords, the black sand coastlines, or traversed the highlands, you'll find this scent will rip you back to your time there (think Anton Ego's flashback in Ratatouille). I'm an avid winter wild camper, and rarely find fragrances that capture ozonic mountain air, a snowfall among fir trees, wet moss, and the rejuvenating aura of a truly wild wilderness rife with grassy fields, wild herbs and flowers, and swaying trees in the distance. If you need visuals to picture this fragrance, watch Kraig Adams' video "Solo Hiking 60 Miles in Hornstrandir Iceland" - it's probably the closest I can get to illustrating what this fragrance smells like.

Standing at the foot of a mountain after a long hike, cool marine air as one is facing the coast, pitch pine and reindeer lichen covering the ground. There is a slight chill from the wind, and there is a certain nakedness, a vulnerability in being here, that is liberating. The air. The landscape. I've perspired and struggled, my legs tremble, but here is the reward. Looking all around me, I inhale deeply. The smell of highlands meeting lowlands, exertion meeting calm, the wind picks up, carrying the aroma of fir trees, scrubby vegetation, and herbs. I watch branches swaying, grasses fluttering, distant waves crashing. I feel a shiver of exhilaration. I feel a stillness, while my surroundings seem to communicate their wisdom to me. This is what I think Útilykt smells like.

I encountered this perfume during my first time in Iceland while perusing the 66°Norður store and was immediately smitten with the notes of cold air and moss. I was limited in my budget and came home to the United States without it. But I could not stop thinking about it, or the girl I met in Iceland. Simple solution: have this girl (now my wife) bring me the perfume. It was that good. It is an ethereal, chilled scent like walking off-path to gather herbs in the volcanic tundra, with the last vestiges of snow leaving the smaller mountaintops, and the fog rolls in from the ocean. As someone who is frequently in such environments for work, I felt transported back. While this is more of a non-summer perfume in the temperate parts of the world, I would argue that this is an all-season perfume in places that don't get warm in the summer, like Reykjavik or Dutch Harbor, because above a certain latitude summer really *does* feel like this. For me, it is a must-have on my perfume shelf and it will stay there as long as I can find it.

I actually visited their store in Reykjavik a couple years ago, which is when my father bought this (I was a bit younger then so I thought it was boring, but looking back it was a super interesting experience.) I've never really worn it, only admired it from afar- the scent is TOO realistic and beautiful! Every time I smell it reminds me of that amazing trip to Iceland. Probably one of my favorite fragrances in the whole world, even though it's nothing like the girly, sweet perfumes I normally wear. So amazing- I might be biased because I'm a big Sigur Ros fan. This smells exactly like Iceland- smoky, mossy, fresh, and cold. I wish I could smell this every day.

This fragrance is a beautiful fresh crisp clean wildness scent. I do not have the spray, but the balm/wax however I imagine the scent profile is basically identical. This is a very unique fragrance and masterfully crafted with quality ingredients. Very masculine and crisp is the way i would describe it. Like the air on a cool fall or spring day. I’d say it’s versatile enough to wear any season night or day, but feel it’s best suited for spring/fall into early summer/winter though. I love this as a fragrance to wear but would also use it as a candle. As it has a cozy and inviting aura without being cloying or obnoxiously overpowering. 10/10 would recommend!

Absolutely gorgeous. I had to get the solid perfume as the spray was sold out, so no need to push past the alcohol. Lovely combination of satisfyingly outdoorsy, slightly unfamiliar green notes with a marine vibe - quite addictive, I keep sniffing my wrist. Edit: I treated myself to a bottle of this and if anything, the spray is even better than the solid perfume (blooms much further and faster on my skin, and smells more complex). Fresh air and cold ocean spray, bottled. Great stuff.

I don’t think I have anything in my 700+ perfume collection like this. It transports me straight away to an idyllic cabin near a lake side, crisp morning air, greenery, serenity and peace. It is beautiful and relaxing. Once it warms up on the skin it becomes a little less fresh and more sweet. Yet has earthy qualities. A scent I did not know I needed until I smelt it. In love!

God, I love this one. Wearing Útilykt gives me the same feeling I get at the apex of a hike. On top of the mountain, on top of the world, the air is a little thinner. You've been smelling the forest and the trees all along, but this is the first breath you take that isn't desperate, and it's like you're smelling it all for the first time. A perfect forest bath

One of the best perfume I’ve smelled so far! It really smells like mountain air charged with mossy/ earthy notes. I also took the solid one which is in my opinion much more woody and really smell like pine. The both combined have a much longer longevity and evolve well throughout the day.

obsessed with this it’s so salty and mineral and organic smelling. instantly transported to the rocky shore & coastal forests of northern BC, i would wear this all day paddling around in my little boat

smells like a cold breeze in the winter. like the strong wind with snow that hits you in the face. opening very sea salty, dry down very birchy. amazing all year round fragrance!

I was excited to dive into the house of Fischersund today. As a brand, they aim to represent the Icelandic outdoors through fragrance, translating its raw landscapes and shifting elements into something wearable. There is something special about exploring smaller proudly independent brands that draw inspiration from their homeland and this felt like the perfect place to start. Útilykt is a beautiful collaboration between two Icelandic brands, 66°Norður (Icelandic outerwear brand) and Fischersund, coming together to tell a shared story of the cold Icelandic outdoors through scent. The fragrance aims to capture the wind, the sea, the snow and fresh grass, that crisp almost indescribable yet universally familiar scent of the outdoors. Let’s step outside and breathe in the fresh Icelandic air to see what we get. The opening is brisk, airy, and slightly spicy. It has an immediate chill with a dry vetiver quality and a strong presence of ozone. The best comparison I can make is Encre Noire but imagine it covered in snow. It has that dark earthy character yet feels brighter colder and more open. After about fifteen to twenty minutes the spice settles and the scent shifts toward a more coniferous pine profile. There is a small touch of bergamot but it stays very subtle. Instead of turning citrusy it gives a faint tart edge almost like a slightly sour berry on a tree in cold air, though the focus remains on crisp ozonic pine. It smells like standing in a cold pine forest with sharp air moving across your face. A soft green undertone from moss keeps everything feeling natural and grounded. Around an hour and a half in the fragrance softens and becomes more watery while still feeling very realistic. After about two hours a light saltiness from ambergris begins to emerge and the moss feels damper and more earthy. The salt is subtle and cool rather than heavy. It creates the impression of a fresh slightly salty breeze drifting through a shaded forest. What really stands out is how natural this smells. It is very outdoorsy but not in a generic pine masculine way. It does not smell like a typical designer interpretation of woods. It smells like actual forest air. As someone who enjoys camping in the fall and winter and spending time outside in colder weather this feels authentic. I usually do not recommend blind buying but this feels quite safe if you enjoy fragrances like Encre Noire or pine driven scents. It leans masculine yet remains wearable for anyone who appreciates crisp green forest fragrances. I am not the biggest fan of Encre Noire itself yet this makes me appreciate that dry vetiver forest style more. This feels cleaner brighter and more uplifting. I can see myself wearing this often in the spring for its freshness but it also fits perfectly in winter. I was delighted by this one and I look forward to continuing my journey through these Icelandic landscapes through scent.

Reminds me of my partner after a long day, arm and hammer juniper berry barely masking his salty sweat, and I write this fondly - I love this perfume! I spray this on myself every time I visit one of the local shops that carry fischersund

Extremely immersive fragrance. Genuinely does feel “cold”, kind of reminds me of the sensation of chewing mint gum while drinking ice cold water. However I need to keep testing its longevity , seems moderate.

+++++ 25 Dec update at bottom +++++ ----- 31 July 2025 ---- - Apparently I haven't sprayed this one? ( no review and seems unused??) - definitely not a rhubarb or red berry opening. What issss it? - like a mix of a cool autumn day but a warm spring day? Like wool that you're smelling but doesn't smell like anything until it warms up with your breath and proximity to your face? - not sweet... Top Notes - Ozone, Bergamot, Grass Middle Notes - Seaweed, Siberian Fir Base Notes - Moss, Vetiver, Amber Gris - lol is it the ozone somehow? Maybe the vetiver? (another grass / grain / prairie like plant that makes this area similar to midwest (or whatever that concept is called that I mentioned before) - How old is the Fischersund brand? These all feel like from the same 'album' like music with similar themes (grass / prairies, or ozone/thunderstorm smell) - Doesn't really smell like anything... Would actually be great for a room deodoriser? Lol or maybe it just reminds me of like febreeze spray?? (NOTE TO TRY AND ADD TO VIDEO!!! Would be very very funny lol) - Or a good reed diffuser thing in tiny appartments that kind of stink? because the smell gives the feeling of spaciousness (am I sure I've never tried this one?? so weird) - Definitely smells like a mountain breeze (but in a cooler place and with just a few flowers. (So like Norway? or Iceland lol?) - It's fine? It's just more of like an experience - A ROOM SPRAY!! But not really a perfume I'd want to put on my body and walk around as - I don't want to represent an esoteric idea of emptiness but filled with STUFF (lol like the air at the top of a mountain is with a vast emptiness but it's all just so fuuuuulll) - Is it reminding me of the airy Scottish Jo Malone scent? Let's go try it (this has much less ozone than the other two Fischersund's I just tried) ------ Jo Malone - Melancholy Thistle -------- - Oh wow. No, these two are not the same. Thistle has a depth?? A warmth??? (vs just "mountain air") - Broom, woodsy, and patchouli making it more 'down to earth'?? - (Did I think this scent was super weak when I first tried? Lol that would be ironic considering it's twin Fischersund scent which is weaker) definitely more like Scottish highlands (vs Fischersund being mountain top air) - Honestly the Fischersund one is more interesting? Or at least I'm not interested in spraying again, unlike the Thistle one? (like I'll still keep Thistle because it's interesting and unique, but not as unique as the mountain air one) ------ Actually let's try spraying both again --------- - Ultrytch: as you smell / inhale, you feel like you're moving closer to the actual mountainside (kind of like in a commercial) It like transports you - Jo Malone doesn't take you anywhere other than maybe your mind. You're still in reality, knowing you're smelling something (and maybe go out a little and into your brain instead) - so interesting. I think it's that Ultrytch is so good at making you feel transported!! - Jo malone is definitely a fragrance you would wear and walk around - Jo malone deeeefinitely has yellow flowers. Are they the same as those bushes? (Gorse? No apparently Broom has vanilla which Gorse doesn't. ((I FEEEL like I've done this part before??? So confusing.)) Lol apparently I did look it up. And I agree with my old review about changing the name to 'Abandoned Castle' instead.... salt note has a strangely citrusy & sweet quality which i don’t love, it’s giving room spray. but these clouds lift after 20-30 minutes, and this smells like a breath of cold fresh air with a touch of amber. feeling is: you’re down in the valley on a day with good air quality and you look up at the mountains ahead, full of hope.

Fragrance notes appealed to me so I FB'd. This has a crisp pine opening, but within 10 minutes it settles into a groove where it is indistinguishable from Le Labo Baie 19. Got a few sprays of each on opposite arms right now and Baie 19 is winning on longevity. Kinda disappointed, TBH.

Wisps of cold mountainous air, and brisk coniferous vegetation. A bit too subdued and tamed. Evokes the serenity of nature, as opposed to force. Marketed as an outdoor perfume, I feel like they missed the mark. Pleasant- not incredible 6.7/10
