In The Dark

I remember sampling this a while back but forgot to review it. I remember being very impressed w/ the execution of such an interesting combination of contrasting ingredients. It was a perfume that represented a play on the theme of light vs dark. I sent the sample off to my niece who fell absolutely in love w/ it. I had a feeling it was something that could be a signature for her, and I was right. There is a rebellious nature to this perfume that contrasts w/ its classical structure. Its very nature fit my niece down to a tee. She is a petite little thing, but she breaks wild horses for a living and runs a small business rescuing horses and training them. Saving them from slaughter. As you can tell I am a proud Auntie but on to my impression of how this perfume smells. In the Dark was my favorite creation that I tried from this house so far. It was by far the most natural smelling. What I loved about it was that it has this spark of energy in the beginning that comes from a refreshing lemon and an icy cool mint. It transitioned so nicely into a breathtaking pure rose, a perfect rose. The rose becomes warm and moist w/ the introduction of patchouli that is very dank and wet. The incense added a slight smoke to an otherwise very green and moist perfume. I have to say in all of my sampling and there has been a lot I have never come across such an interesting perfume that still remained wearable and not only that but a perfume that you would find yourself reaching for often. In the Dark works year-round, day or night in my opinion. If you like interesting and new interpretations of classic perfumes give In the Dark a try.

Something from my childhood. Lake Balaton, Hungary in the summer. This is what the shadows around the lake smell like. My roots. Earthy sweetness I cannot put my finger on. It’s damp, warm and beautiful. So earthy and at the same time - floral freshness. This scent made me realize how much I love earthy notes. On me it's more floral/earthy/patchouli, the incense is more of a quiet whisper. That thing inside of you that once was frozen solid - now thaws. It’s everything you missed in the summer and more. The musk here is my favorite kind of musk, reminds me of the musk used in Zarkoperfume's Purple Molecule (old signature scent of mine). Sweet and like a whisper. Heartbroken over the longevity. Barely making it to 2 hours on me. Edit:. Tried both ELDO's Hermann and Lalique's Perles de Lalique but neither came close to the intense, passionate imagery you get from ITD. It's something completely different from any other rose patchouli I've tried before.

This is the perfume I've been looking for all my life! Sparkly, with a very well rounded base, appropriate for any situation. Not boring at all, I can't stop sniffing it. Doesn't change much throughout wear. If only longevity was better, on my skin it lasts 4 hours max. I can't tell the notes individually, they blend very well together. It is very uplifting, but not in a sharp citrusy way, rather in a bubbly champagne way. And I don't smell any mint in it, may be the slightest bit, for me it's rather incense, rose, nutmeg, soft lemon. Is this an old-fashioned scent? Definitely not. For me old-fashioned means chypre grand heavy bouquets. "In the Dark" is timeless, medium-weight, not very flowery, not too spicy, very balanced scent. Another Floraiku I have is the Cloud, and it's 180 degrees different, I'd say very rough compared to this one.

This fragrance is one of my favorites with the rose . The opening is fresh (obviously mint and lemon play a key role), and then this delicate, young rose becomes an opulent, voluptuous rose that I like so much. I feel it like a second skin, it represents me in my femininity. In the Drydown it reminds me of Majda Bekkali's Mon Nom est Rouge, another fragrance I adore. I conclude with a quote that is perfectly suited to what I feel when wearing this fragrance: “If Zeus wanted to give a kingdom to flowers, the Rose would reign over all”

This house blends its fragrances so well. This is just seamless in nature. The mint and lemon brighten the jammy rose and the incense is smooth in the dry down. The patchouli is there, but doesn't stand out to my nose (and I'm not the biggest patch fan). Longevity and sillage are average (one of my biggest gripes with this house given the price) but that just means they're not loading their fragrances with those scratchy aroma chemicals to make them last all day.

I'll preface this review by saying this is NOT a fragrance for those who need heavy amber or oud in their Rose fragrance. It's not a thick modern rose supported by a hefty aroma chemical base, so I have no idea why the top reminds me of fragrance is ELDO's Herman A Mes. Everything is layered and blended well here. I wouldn't really call it smoky either, it smells more like an unlit incense stick in the base and fresh picked rose.

Genuinely a lovely fragrance but the sticker shock is untenable. Reminds me very much of something from Etat Libre D'Orange, though I can't place my finger on exactly which fragrance that is (possibly Hermann a mes Cotes, as recommended in the "similar to" section here.) Regardless, I would recommend comparing them yourself and buying the more cost-effective (and longer lasting!) ELDO fragrance instead.

The opening is a gorgeous luscious minty rose - but the lemon lends some sparkle that helps cut through the rose and prevents it to being jammy. It transitions smoothly to patchouli and finally dries down to a smoky incense. Scents that are prominently rose is usually not my thing, but this is intoxicating. It also reminds me of one of my favorite beauty oils - the Pixi rose oil blend.

To me this perfume was a big surprise. I don't consider myself as an incense fan, but this perfume opens with a bright freshness. You can smell the rose but for me it's not overpowering. The incense note adds depth to it and the perfume smells like a really good meditation session. It's deep, it's dark and very unique.

In the dark is an amazing fragrance, it wont be for everyone but it certainly is for me. Its this blend of mint citrus, almost like a peppermint vibe with a smoky smooth incense. Its dark and seductive and a true love for me, perfect for winter or nights in. Try before you buy, but a masterpiece to my nose.

This is a really good one. Well blended, smells expensive , its like a fresh spicy high quality frag that lasts a long time. One of the best looking presentations of all time.

Does not remind any of mentioned as similar in the list. Very unique, old fashioned a bit, nostalgic, deep and incredibly well blended. Complete masterpiece.

In the Dark is a very different rose perfume. Right from the first spray there is an interesting mix of lemon and mint- lighter elements that are contrasting within themselves (the lemon is tart and a little bitter, the mint is cool and soft) but also contrasting with what I would have supposed to be the darker and more dominant notes of this perfume, the rose and its accompanying notes of patchouli and incense. These darker notes can be smelled alongside the top notes of lemon and mint, but they definitely don’t dominate the perfume. And after an hour on skin the patchouli and incense pretty much fade away along with the mint, leaving a lemony rose. Not the lemony rose I’ve smelled in other perfumes, which is usually a young, pink and fresh rose. This is a deep red, full bodied, luxe, rich and jammy rose. A mature rose. Just barely tinged with patchouli and incense. And with an unusual overlay of lemon that feels like dessert lemon, if that makes sense. I guess it got infused with that mint. In the Dark lasts like this another 3-4 hours before evaporating off the skin. The lemon remains the whole time. So you get about 5 hours total on skin, with only the first couple hours having any discernible sillage. I really enjoyed the experience of wearing this perfume but...It’s very expensive so I doubt I would buy it unless I saw an incredible deal. I do like the pretty bottles and the overall concept of the line, so extra points for that. In the Dark doesn’t seem either traditionally masculine or feminine, it’s unisex. 7.5/10.

Very pretty scent, juicy berry-like rose that mellows down to sweet citrus. It doesn't last long so if you like it but want a stronger amped up version I'd suggest trying Pink Prestigium by Mancera.

A beautifully crafted citrus rose. High quality and well made which is the normality with this brand.

Personal: 5.5/10 – I respect the quality and depth, but it’s not my kind of fragrance. Way too dark, herbal, and earthy for me to enjoy. And the rose isn't for me. Mass appeal: 5.5/10 – This isn’t trying to be likable. It’s moody, brooding, and polarizing, with depth that only a specific set of noses will appreciate. Performance: 8/10 – Strong longevity and projection, as expected from something so resinous and earthy, despite its floral qualities. Value: 4/10 – The pricing is insane, even if the blending is exquisite. Not worth it unless you LOVE this DNA. Uniqueness: 9/10 – Very unique execution of dark woods, herbs, and florals. Feels like walking through a ritualistic incense chamber. Nothing compares. SCORE: 64/100 Full bottle buy? NO, I can’t stand wearing it, but I like occasional whiffs. Blind buy? NO, it’s way too expensive and polarizing to gamble on. Sample. Recommend? YES, but only for collectors who want something dark, niche, and VERY moody. Not for everyone. Date night? NO, unless your date is a vampire. Office safe? NO, way too heavy and weird for a professional setting. Pros: Incredibly well blended, high quality, dark, mysterious, artistic. Extremely unique expression of bright notes turned dark. Cons: Crazy expensive, overly dark and brooding, very niche taste. Worth smelling, not owning. This is one of those fragrances that’s more about respect than love. I don’t want to wear it, but I understand what it’s doing. The blending is unmatched, and is clearly the quality you would expect from Memo, but it's just too dark and floral and... weird... for me to wear. It almost makes sense as a fragrance, but it has deep twists and turns like a long-lost tunnel that's somehow still filled with ritualistic incense. A high-art dark niche fragrance. An interesting and unusual composition, comprising of seemingly opposing notes which are at once somewhat unsettling, yet almost pleasant. A citric rose different to the rest, though I’m not sure it entirely works. The rose itself is sweet and oily, slightly salty whilst remaining fresh, supplemented by a screechy lemon. Incense has no place here, especially when combined with the mint, as it begins to take away from the rose and lean more towards something scratchy. It’s not a bad fragrance, but neither does it excite me. For the prices Floraiku are asking, I would expect more.
