Bergamotto di Positano

[JUNE 2024] (purchased August 2023) Biting, effervescent, tart freshie similar to the impression of key lime with a yeast-y, dough-like sweetness that grounds the scent with weight. Summery, solar-y brightness/sharpness to this perfume. I think the seaweed/calone-esque undertones of Bergamotto Di Positano (which perhaps gives it that 'yeast'-y impression) is enough that it doesn't turn me off but gives enough depth that I don't have to spend near $300 on Roja Dove's Oceania. The dough-like marine-vanilla sweetness is actually the base of this perfume so you will have this part linger at its very end. The bright-tart bergamot lasts a good enough time, as my skin amplifies balsams and eats up citruses quickly. I can find this fragrance a bit un-sweet, so I often layer with Hermessence's Myrhh Eglantine. I will say though, I can almost *taste* the tartness of Bergamotto Di Positano. I don't really "envision" an image besides the blindingly bright sun, bright blue sky and bright white sand with sparkling waters when I smell this one but that's alright. The impression of this perfume is as bright a yellow as they chose for the 10ml's label. Sillage is notable (you will notice if a crowd will huddle nearer to you, or move away from you.) Longetivity is... okay (but note I do spoil myself often with heritage and niche-level goods.) Very good deal for $45AUD. If you consider not spending much on masculine perfume but want something with clear quality, the 10ml for $45ml is worth it. And if you really want a good deal for masculine classics, just get a 100ml Boucheron Homme EDP ($74AUD.)

This is a happy vacation scent, and thankfully it doesn't conjure up the crowded, sweaty Mediterranean beaches of today. Instead, you are transported to a time past, maybe the late 1950s, wherein you've just arrived at a swanky hotel in Capri in an Alfa Romeo convertible, and you're headed to the pool area where you will sip iced green tea as you enjoy the sweet-salty (but mostly sweet) seabreeze while taking in the Rat-Pack vibe. Bossa nova is playing in the background, and when you turn around you realize that it's not piped-in music but there's a live band playing. You might even spot someone that looks uncannily like Grace Kelly. BdP is sophisticated for sure, but it is not as aristocratic as some of the other Floris offerings. Instead, there is a coziness and softness, perhaps suggested by the combination of vanilla and creamy orange blossom, complemented by a sweetish amber note. I actually get very little of the bergamot after the initial boozy blast, which is really quite piquant and even sour, something I don't mind. For 90% of the time though, it is marine-vanilla-citrus, linear but oh-so evocative and sensuous. Definitely a worthy (and necessary) addition to the Floris line-up.

This is not a bergamot fragrance, this is an excellent vanilla and musk dominant scent with hints of bergamot, wood and salt. I find myself reaching for this one so frequently when going to work, I keep it in my office. It's perfect in this scenario because a couple sprays on the neck doesn't shout loud enough to announce that you are wearing anything, and in this day and age when people at work are sensitive to fragrances, you won't have them complaining that you are wearing strong cologne. If I'm heading anywhere after work where I want it to be louder and more present, I simply pump on another 5-7 sprays and it then projects and draws compliments. I love the house of Floris for a couple reasons. First, the understated British elegance of their compositions, and second, they are still and independent house with tons of history and tradition. They have formulas hand written on paper which is so old school when everyone else is being gobbled up by massive corporate conglomerates. A really nice, salty Bergamot that is sweet and has some depth in the drydown, due to added gourmand notes vanilla, some assorted spices and ginger. Bergamot tends to be overused in summer scents. I even put off sampling this one because of the name, Bergamotto di Positano. But where I live our summers are short and in a few weeks we will be in Fall weather....my window for testing is limited. I’m glad I’m wearing it today. Performance is average, a few good hours before turning to a skin scent. For a summer citrus aquatic, you won’t find better unless something artificial is added like iso e super. Bergamotto di Positano smells really natural, and that’s the trade off I prefer. What I don’t like is the size of the bottles. With no other choice but to buy a 100ml retail bottle, it’s likely I will never own this wonderful scent. My collection is already too big and I usually only buy smaller sizes. If Floris ever decides to release this in 30ml or 50ml, I would be first in line.

I have just received a sample of this perfume, i love Floris for their history and bottle design the DNA of this brand is just great however out of the 50 or so fragrances in their arsenal only 2 fragrances stand out unfortunately i wish i loved more scents from this prestigious house, the 1st fragrance is Santal and the second is BdP. It reminds me of sitting on the beach with just a little Hawaiian tropic tanning lotion on your body and sipping your favorite summer cocktail somewhere in Italy. 8/10.

Wow, very nice. Perfect British version of Italian cologne genre. Bright citrus, hint of lavender and vanilla, soft, powdery, very British but refreshing. Transparent, not dense. Soft sillage and weak longevity, but it's a beauty. Scent: 8 / Sillage: 5 / Longevity: 5

This reminds me of vacation on a seaside vista, but the beach is too crowded so you hang out by the hotel pool, sipping pina coladas, palm trees waving, and the warm sun caressing your suntan lotion-ed skin.

Bergamotto di Positano is an elegant skin scent but it is best treated like a cologne because it is all done in three hours. The opening is bergamot, mandarin, vanilla, ginger, a hint of orange blossom and a vague marine hint. Twenty minutes later the green tea note becomes detectable. It's a skin scent from the first few minutes. 45 minutes in and the marine notes and the mandarin have gone. Instead, Bergamotto di Positano has changed into a mix of some spices, ginger, a hint of green tea, a hint of bergamot, a touch of vanilla and a wisp of musk. 80 minutes in and the green tea and the bergamot have gone. What there is left is a mix of vanilla, spices and some woody notes. Another half hour later and it's a series of vague, faint notes. Two and a quarter hours in there are some vague wood and spice faint notes. By three hours in it's all gone. It's best to treat this one as a cologne for spring, summer, early autumn warm day and dress smartly while wearing it.

I have just started exploring perfumes. I like this but don't love it. It's unisex, fresh, citrus, spicy, aquatic, with a vanilla dry down. I'm personally unsure about wearing spicy perfumes for myself, maybe that's because I'm still new to perfumes. I finished off my sample today by layering it with Light Blue, and it sort of softens it up for me, and I like it a bit more. The opening is too spicy for me, but once it dries down, it mellows out and the vanilla comes out which I really like. Looks like it only comes in 100ml, but I'm not loving it enough to go digging for an AU seller that has a smaller decant. Still looking for a stronger/longer lasting citrus than Light Blue. Might finish my sample of Aoud Forest (misleading name) and also try Bal D'afrique, and then revisit this again later. I do really like the idea of a hint of vanilla in a predominantly fresh citrus prefume, but I think I can just achieve that with layering.

This is quite a nice and fresh fragrance that would be perfect for summer for a man or maybe for a more androgynous woman who likes unisex perfumes that lean slightly masculine. I can smell the bergamot the most, just like the name of it would suggest to you. I can also smell the orange blossom quite strongly, followed by the sea notes, the ginger, a hint of tea leaves and a sticky and resinous amber. I can imagine wearing this on a beach in Italy while dressed in white linen and drinking a glass of Limoncello. I personally wouldn't wear it, but I can appreciate it for what it is and I think I now know what to get my dad for his birthday this year.

Gorgeous, citrus but less zesty and more dessert. Sweet but not sickly, and on my skin it actually leans more masculine than feminine. It’s citrusy, but not as fresh as I expected, it feels more like a dessert than a crisp citrus splash. After the first hour, a very clean and pleasant musky base comes through and lingers nicely. I like it, but it’s not really a “wow” scent for me

An uplifting, fresh citrus scent that is perfect for a hot summer day. It has a bold opening with distinct citrus and spicy notes that linger for several hours. The fragrance softens slightly after a few hours, but the base notes remain on my skin for a long time. I don't detect any vanilla or amber. To me, this is truly a summer fragrance—citrusy and freshly spicy.

Clean and light. Citrus, but very light on the opening. Develops into a light warm vanilla musk. I struggled to find it throughout the day. One of those very pleasant but barely there fragrances for me that I just don’t have much use for.

It is a very light citrus. At the opening spray i get a bit of bitterness but as it dries down the vanilla and amber add a bit of sweetness. This is refreshing to wear on a hot summer day. However the longevity and silage is not great.

It makes no sense, it’s no contribution to the genre.

My husband and I both didn't like this. And we are big Floris fans. This is not a bergamot fragrance. It is a ginger, marine notes, vanilla and musk fragrance. I'm really becoming tired of the use of ginger in everything. It usually comes off as a weird stir fry thing added to a perfume. Only in a few fragrances have I liked it's presence. And it's presence needs to be subdued for it to work well. This fragrance just isn't very well blended. I have someone that I can give the sample to that I think will like it. But neither my husband or I will be wearing it. It's just a strange fragrance. Smells like a strange ginger orange and vanilla salt water taffy.

I do get the vanilla and amber from this, especially later on. It is marine but not as much as JF (which I find is a little too marine and thus feels very 80s). This starts off with a hint of orange pettigrain but is mainly lime. The effect makes it feel very light, poppy and fresh. It is very creamy and once the citrus fades it almost takes on a coconut note. I think this is a little too feminine for my tastes. I don't think it passes as a unisex scent as well as Floris thinks it does. Although it is well made, I don't think it does anything particularly well and isn't interesting enough to rebuy or stand out in the Floris lineup.

This a disappointment. I had high expectations as I regard this brand really highly. However, its a total failure. Just imagine the most basic designer fragrance out there: Calone, Bergamots and Mandarine.

Ocean notes plus super sweet vanilla makes this sickly sweet for me and almost gag inducing.

I love the opening, it’s fresh and vibrant, as the name suggests. But a few minutes later it starts to transform into an ungodly mess that I find repulsive. It turns into a gourmand, but that’s not the worst of it... there’s this salty watery note too... soooo soggy biscuits. It’s almost like they made two different fragrances in one, that go in completely different directions. If it had stuck with the intro, it would have been great. But unfortunately, the way this scent develops makes it sickening to me. Definitely sample first, and if you can’t find a sample, buy the travel size... when it’s on sale. You need to know what you’re getting into before you take this on. I honestly feel like all the reviews saying that is fresh and citrusy, that they only smelled the opening... on paper, and didn’t stick around for the dry down. I’ve seen people do that... review fragrances based off of a paper sniff... but that is a great way to miss a tragedy you can avoid. Put it on your skin people, then come back and tell me it doesn’t smell like seaweed and baked goods in the most horrendous way.

This is really interesting, because I bought it thinking that it would be a fresh, light fragrance. But, the opening notes are so fleeting, that it truly isn't. I get almost none of the mid notes. It goes straight to the base within an hour on my skin. Now, on the one hand, given the notes, it really isn't fair to expect longevity. On the other hand, it is still VERY brief! That said, the scent is actually very beautiful. But, instead of being a summer fragrance, it definitely reads as more of a fall fragrance. It's the sort of fragrance that will serve well during the seasonal transition from either spring to summer, or summer to fall. It is light, considering that what I smell the most is Vanilla, spice and amber. But, the notes are more of what you expect to wear in cooler weather. If this had better longevity, it would be truly amazing.

Very nice citrusy, vanilla, musky fragrance with an Italian cookie mixed in. There is only a hint of ginger...not overpowering at all. I find that this fragrance does have lasting power, probably due to the vanilla in the base, and the well blended composition. If you have ever been to Positano...you will understand that this is truly Positano in a bottle!! And just to be clear, when I mention the Italian cookie, it's not gourmand, but reminiscent of an Italian seaside village with Italian bakeshops. It's the whiff you catch while sitting on the beach or walking through town.

After blind buying, this is very nice elegant scent. A very Italian type scent. Its a combination of the old the school barber shop scents with a modern twist. I think of Guerlain Habit L'eau, Guerlain's Bergamotto version mixed with a little Armani Eau Pour Homme . Floris lasts, but subtilty. If you don't already have a nice citrus elegant scent that is an eau de parfum or parfum, this is worth a try, other wise you can stick with what you have.

This is a sweet, bergamot with salty ocean notes. Very similar to Ferrari Radiant Bergamot. I was expecting something a little less sweet from both and hoping for more of a tangy, bright bergamot. This is quite disappointing , especially given the price point. Go for Gallagher Bergamust instead or Ferrari Radian Bergamot if you are on a budget.

What a wonderful citrus fragrance. I agree that it is very light - but suspect it was meant to be. Beautiful creamy sweetness with the orange blossom and vanilla, and the sea notes gives it that special touch. Will be rocking this one on the regular in a couple of months time. Fabulous. MFK aqua vitae vibes but not as dense.

Very faint unfortunately, left me unimpressed and wanting more. I don’t get much of the freshness that people talk about in the comments, I’m really missing the citruses in the opening, it kind of goes straight to the warm vanilla base on my skin, the ginger is barely there too.

An Elegant and Niche like version of the original Calvin Klein Ck One. So if you love CK one/anything similar and want a concentrated version, you should buy this. Its Fresh. Lemon, Orange, Tea and Vanilla are the stand out notes.

On paper: Sweet and lightly salty marine scent. Ginger, powdered sugar, ocean foam, lemon peel and lime zest. On skin: Heavily salted yet airy bergamot peels. White musk. Ever so slightly dirty, in a white ambergris way.

Till now i never wrote or even thought of a fragrance in the way i will describe this one. Synthetic mess. It's irritating, somehow childish. I'll test it again in warm weather. I must be wrong, right?
