Gardenia

a tame yet heady floral in the opening that is a little bit sour like wilting petals then the lily, cyclamen and green notes claim the fragrance; it gets stronger as it heats up with the body; there's some sandalwood and a touch of white musk but I wouldn't call it animalic; not my fave gardenia fragrance but interesting and unique. I have the EDP. As another reviewer said, this gets richer and warmer as it dries down. Very deep and creamy. Not like the big white heady florals. But it still has that odd wilted greenness throughout.

It smells like rabbit shaped rubber eraser from the eighties.

Hm. I might have made a mistake here. I ordered this discontinued perfume from Floris because I absolutely love gardenia, because I read brilliant reviews about it elsewhere, and because it was half price. And now I have 100 ml of something that I am not sure about. Of course, my fault...lesson learnt: NEVER ever ever ever blind buy a scent! It does open fruity, but I miss the promised greenness. The fruity note quickly disappears, and then it is a white flower bouquet, a bit on the too sweet side. My beloved gardenia can be detected only if I smell very carefully. After testing Jo Loves Gardenia for days now, which is the ultimate gardenia scent for me so far, this is not REALLY gardenia. Having said this, it is a rather well balanced and elegant fragrance, and I am writing this review shortly after having applied it. I shall give it some time and come back with the update. Update: it is slowly, slowly growing on me. On the objective side: great longevity, quite unexpected, really, from a Floris scent. After wearing it all day yesterday, I applied one spray at 8 pm last night, and upon waking up this morning (6.30) it still lingered around me. And lingering it does in a very nice, subdued, dreamy way. I can still hardly detect gardenia, for my nose it is rather a large white floral bouquet. This is really a funny experiment for me, cause I would never have bought this fragrance in a shop. But now that we are sort of stuck together by chance, I do enjoy the dance of getting to know each other. I am not entirely sure we shall be a couple, but wait and see...

Luca Turin gave it one star in his review book with the reason "it doesn't smell gardenia at all" if I remember right. I bought a bottle of it (EDT) several years ago. It's a fruity white floral scent, not very typical gardenia at all and not actually my cup of tea. But I don't think it's a one-star trash. To me, its fault is, Floris' gardenia is too girly to stand among those nanny classics. If you expect a true gardenia scent, floris's probably would fail you, it's too candy sweet to be creamy enough, let along green-ish. Still, there are people who might just like this kind of scent.

A trend following 90s floral green bouquet led by synthetic lily of the valley & fruit, a go to combo for a lot of 80s - 90s floral green. The gardenia. Where is the gardenia? This is the 2nd Floris I tried - the other one is Cherry Blossom - and I'm not impressed, they both have this synthetic Bath & Body Works body spray feel to them.

Sadly, this is discontinued. If you see it on eBay GET IT. It's a rich, creamy, intense gardenia. I have the EDP and love it in winter. The EDT is more suitable for summer.
