Limes

This is such an under-rated, under-appreciated gem. I suspect the main (only?) reason for this is its name. "Limes" - so apt, so prosaic, so blah. Yes, it is undoubtedly "Limes", but it is really more than that. This is a beautifully-blended, old-school barbershop cologne that is a cut above the rest. There's a roundedness and an elegance that modern fragrances just can't get right. Floris, if you're listening, all you need to do is to slap a new name on this. Something evocative and sensuous. No need to change the composition whatsoever. If you want to go the snobby route, call it, say "Royal Belgravia" or "Windsor Air". Or, if you want to be exotic, then maybe "In a Persian Grove" or "The Leeward Isles". Or "Montego Shores". Or "Goan Night". Or even something enigmatic like "Trafalgar" or "Easterlies". The possibilities are endless. Try it (or look at what Penhaligons is doing). I'm sure your sales will skyrocket.

A refreshing quite pure lime frag.. I applied 6 heavy sprays 0 - 1.5 hours- 6 inch projection with 1 foot sillage trails. This is all about the lime with other notes very distant, if you look hard enough you get a hint of pettigrain etc. I was intrigued to try this frag which first came out in 1832 and surpised how modern it felt - I then thought it through and realised it's a timeless aroma 1.5 hours - 4 hours- 3 inch projection. Becomes more diluted on the skin 4 hours - 6 hours. Close to skin and a femine musk drydown intertwines with the dimmering lime. Some soapiness. I recommend this frag to the purist citrus lovers out there, like myself It is not very complex yet it is well made Not much more to be said about this one! Simples Good

Hmm. I had a sample of this, enjoyed the simplicity of it, went for the whole bottle. It's expensive for what you get... A synthetic smelling plain old lime. Pure distilled lime oil smells better than this. The 4711 acqua colonia range of basic colognes offer better value for money and more bite. Penhaligons bayolea is far more enjoyable. I don't think anyone could hate this. It is too rudimentary for that. Shame really as at some point in the past I expect this was great and it has a lot of history, today's version is a suggestion of what could be. 2/5

This certainly lives up to it's name - opens with a big bright citrus, strong on the lime. This lasted much longer than citrus typically does on me, it was a good 30 minutes before it began to fade and the linden appeared. Unlike the citrus, the linden is very soft and it becomes a skin scent at this stage, but it lasts well. I didn't get the neroli in this, and there was just a hint of lily of the valley. I wouldn't have thought that linden would pair well with such a strong citrus, but this fragrance makes it work very well.

Great scent. Very fresh and citrusy. It smells really high quality and sophisticated. Unfortunately, on my skin, it only lasts for around 20 minutes before it becomes a skin scent. Performance is the weak point of this one. I'm sure it lasts much longer on other people with better skin chemistry. On me this is very weak. Definitely get a sample before buying a full bottle, or you might be disappointed with the performance.

This is my daily summer scent. It is very light and needs to be freshened several times. It initially hits you with lemon but fades into a beautiful lime floral bouquet. I do not find the lack of longevity a problem because it allows for freshening up that a hot sweaty summer requires. Definitely a unique scent that will set you apart from the over marinating masses.

Floris Limes smells almost identical to "Coast ", "The Eye Opener" bar soap. I've read the notes and they are nearly exact too. Kinda like the smell of keffir limes and lemongrass in a soap lather. I love it, especially accompanied by Nivea original creme. Another perfume which is similar is Eau De Rochas.

A classic, old-school, clean lime fragrance. This opens with a tart citrus burst that slowly fades into a floral. Like most citruses, don't expect much sillage. Longevity is decent, I get a few hours out of it. Not the cheapest, but a classic that I turn to quite frequently.

The short opening is stunning, sharp, realistic, green lime freshly collected from the tree with twigs and leaves. The floral notes are a bit too soapy for my taste.

Beautiful fresh and long-lasting.

While (whilst?) on a trip to London I decided I wanted to find a scent that I could not buy back home (back home being the states, or, more pacifically, Hawaii). I didn't plan to go vintage classic, but yet here I am with a bottle of Floris Limes. What caught me as I was trying all sorts of different things and challenging the poor store clerk with finding me something different was how Limes stood out for me from all the other options. Fresh, citrus, a pleasure up close, not overwhelming at a distance, and definitely not announcing my arrival or departure like a train station. The smell is at the essence simply fresh lime, and I think that is what I love most about it. And, given it goes back to the 1800s, this is a bottle that you can go crazy with - go ahead, spray head to foot, spray again, refresh at will. The scent drops off fairly fast, but it is so light and refreshing I now understand why in an era of no deodorants that a refreshing spray was the deodorant. I've taken the old world idea to heart with this little scent by putting a bit into an even smaller little spray refresh bottle, and I couldn't be happier. I smell British, limey, if I dare say, and have discovered it is rather hard to overdo using this as it simply smells nice. After a day on the beach, and the accompanying sunscreen and et cetera, this becomes a nice splash that makes me cocktail hour(s) ready - and a secret, if your sunscreen is heavily coconut in smell, well this puts the lime in the coconut. For the price, pure fun, and, if you've read this far, even a bit of story to go with it. Business safe, beach and afters ready - that works for me.

I was not expecting any lime based on the reviews here. But when I smelled it, I was reminded of a movie quote from Fast Times at Ridedgemont High "What are you people, on dope?" I understand it's an accord but geez, it's clear as day. Anyway, this is a nice smelling citrus that does have lime, but it's more towards the oil of the peel (which is unique in the modern era) and I think it folks get hypnotized by the linden blossom. I'm getting mostly citrus and a pretty prominent musky (not challenging at all) base fixative from my bottle. Someone mentioned that this is for the pure citrus lover and I agree. I am one of these people having tried and bought tons in this category. Great juice that still holds it's own, but temper your performance expectations because this is a weak performer even for a citrus. Conclusion: a quality citrus cologne with lime and blossom that still works in 2023. Simple, but great for citrus junkies like me. Scent 7.5/10 Performance 2/10

Trying to recall the other English lime scents as best I can while doing this, the Floris is probably closest to Trumpers. It's right away the driest, dustiest of these old-style EdCs, and has a bit of the sharp herbs of Wellington or Blenheim, though it's admittedly a bit hard to tell where the fresh lime rind sharpness ends and the herbal sharpness begins. I also think there's a trace of the florals that I associate with the less "barbershoppy" English houses (i.e. Floris and Penhaligons), which sometimes feminizes them a tiny bit. I don't think it maintains its lime identity very well, though. Trumpers dies off quickly but remains pure, and Truefitt is sweetened up a bit and strengthened with synthetics but is still clearly lime. The Floris dies off and degenerates into dust, with a bit of popcorny-smelling wood at the very end.

Limes was the 1st grown up perfume I bought as a teenager at the Floris store in London. I remember it being MUCH longer lasting. I remember some spilled in my purse and it smelled like Limes for literally YEARS. I still love it of course but the longevity is terrible and the sillage is practically non existent. For me it was worth purchasing a 3/4 full bottle without a top. Would I pay for price knowing the longevity issues even though this is a sentimental scent? Absolutely not. Still I really like it but it lasts maybe an hour. Terrible performance. Perfectly unisex though. Scent to me as a 10 but the lack of longevity and price put this more like a 6/10

So this is an interesting one, named 'limes' but is predominantly lemon petitgrain in the opening, intensely green, fresh, and tart but also with the richness of lemon rind. The initial citrus burst is gone quickly and soon a starchy old school laundry powder feel settles on the skin, clean, elegant, but also quite barebones. This fragrance can be found for about 50$ on discounters, and if you are looking for a one dimensional petitgrain fragrance this definitely delivers.

I just love the Lemon Lime opening an zesty beginning dries lovely to an delicate watery scent of Lily of the Vally hidden among the rocks with it's gentile scent and the subtle musk dry down. it's more of a pleasant and Diluted Version of Eau de Guerlian which it's a very power citrus aromatic fragrance that uses to much on mint and smelled like Mint Tooth Paste.

Opens with a green, tart lemon accompanied by petitgrain. It's refreshing, for a hot summer day especially. However, this uplifting citrusey scent only lasts no more than 10 minutes on my skin, even with 5-6 sprays. Even the musk at the base is faint...considering the price, I wouldn't recommend it. It's simply too weak.

This fragrance is less poetic than the notes had me believe. It's nice and fresh, not sweet at all (luckily), and serves more as a momentous refresher than a deliberately chosen perfume. It reminds me of Jeanne en Provence's Verveine Cédrat, but rounded out: it's softer and has a bit more of a musky base.

nice citrus freshness I put it on this morning at 8:15am it's now 12:45pm and I can still smell it (just). it's a bit expensive & I have nicer longer lasting scents for less outlay so I would reconsider about buying it again. but on a snob factor it is a nice feeling to have a Floris product your skin.

It sure is limes! Uncomplicated but beautifully composed, this scent is simple and luxurious and truely what it says on the tin. Citrus notes tend to evaporate very fast, but the lime sticks around as the dominant scent for hours. Would layer beautifully.

Great opening with sharp lemon and green, juicy petitgrain. In the dry down I get mostly lilies. I have 2 problems with this perfume: longevity isn't good, and I'm not a big fan of lilies. Doesn't smell dated at all!

A quite reasonable scent in the style of Lemon Line, Chanel Homme Sport Cologne, Dior Cologne, or Acqua Viva — not dumb since it’s not overly sweet. Worth testing on the skin to see how long it lasts.

Realistic lime in the opening; limeade in the dry down. Weak performance, but excellent quality otherwise.

A beautiful uncomplicated lemon and lime blossom fragrance. Perfect for summer heat. Unisex.

Weak sauce I'm afraid - or very diluted lemon juice, if you prefer. Simply light, clean, rather generic 'citric-ness' - not even detectably either lime or lemon, but some imaginary, over-diplomatic, too tactful, damnably discreet essence of 'General Freshness Formula No.1' and ... er... that's it. Not harsh, though it tends to a slightly laundry-cleaning-powder zinginess rather than to the full smell-spectrum of more opulent approaches to citrus - I can't help feeling a few herbs or spices might have livened it up a bit, as well as making it stick for longer. Classy citrus can be so, so much more interesting than this! And although long-lasting, high-performing citrus that isn't too acrid is almost a perfume unicorn, because it's so hard to do - I've smelled better than this at many price points, despite Floris' pedigree and perceptible good taste. So this ends up as sort of a scent equivalent of an expensively-educated, smoothly mannered, elegantly-suited upscale sales agent at a high art auction house - impeccably presented, apparently rather sophisticated, but without a lot to say for itself - let alone to justify its asking price. Longevity is pathetic - vanishes without trace in under 2h. On the up side, it's completely unisex and so low-key and low-profile it would be suitable for any purpose or occasion - as long as your goal was to smell as clean as possible and make no further impression whatsoever. Would never offend, but feels unlikely to seduce either. Can't hate it but can't summon up much energy to feel much of a way about it in any direction, sorry to say.

smells like a freshly cracked opened box of Fruit Loops cereal. the lemon and citrus notes are very very artificial. the dry down leans a bit more lemon pledge so if you wanna smell like a bowl of cereal or like you just polished the coffee table...this is the one for you.

This is a fleeting, pleasant, sweetish take on lime. It is not a photorealistic declaration of citric authenticity -not by a very long shot. It is inoffensive because it is barely apparent initially and then completely undetectable after about 45 minutes. By 90 minutes it is barely a memory, no more. Yes it is an EDT. Yes it is British. Yes it is a citrus scent. Yes it is in the fresh category. But no, it is not a good pickup. It is absolutely not a good value. I have a very hard time thinking of why something like this even exists at this price. I do not know why anyone would want an expensive (for what it is) fragrance that is gone in minutes.

This is the first "hate" review I've ever given. It certainly smells of lime, but instead of a sweet refreshing lime it's more of a warm, squeezed over your fish tacos lime. It's also incredibly artificial smelling, and has a drydown that's oddly soapy. After about 30 minutes, it just reads floral, which isn't bad but it's still artificial smelling. The perhaps "good" news is that the smell is gone completely after about an hour and a half. Scent Description: Warm lime, floral dry-down Sillage: Weak-Medium, within arm's length Longevity: Weak, 1-2 hours

I think non Brits may mistake the linden blossom tree, or tilia, with actual citrus limes because the Brits call the linden tree "lime"; although the two trees are not related. It's not supposed to literally smell like a squeeze of lime. The name is in reference to what the British call the tilia, or linden blossom tree. Hope that helps with the confusion. Limes by the royal house of Floris is the truest linden blossom experience available in fragrance. Fresh, breezy, green; I'm transported to my old neighborhood in late spring, walking under a linden tree in full bloom. Stopping to inhale the fresh, fragrant canopy of little blooms; reaching up and running my fingers through the clusters of tiny, fuzzy white and yellow buds while thinking to myself how delicious they smell! Amazing this experience has been captured and bottled up. The smell is fresh, citrine, green, herbal, and tea-like. I only wish resprays weren't necessary, however it's part and parcel for a fragrance which is true and not too synthetic. Perfection for what it represents so I can't complain. I have been wearing this for about an hour now, and it's starting to fad A bit. I love the old school lime smell, it's really done well with an opening burst of lemon first! Old school English Barbershop scent, I will give this juice A full day test run tomorrow. The Musk is just starting to come out now as I write this, man this is good smelling. I want to add an old school lime fragrance to my collection but I still need to test A few more before pulling the trigger on one. Anyone have any recommendations?

A fragrance cannot have been composed in the *second* half of the 19th century (1850 onward) before being released in 1832. This is impossible.

Basically a clean, fresh, lime fragrance that dries into a Lily of the Valley/white musk essence. Very light, very clean, and very nice. Expect about 15 minutes of longevity, as this is a pure citrus/musk essence. Meant for immediately after a shower or bath.

Looovely lemon hits you !!! Gone in 60 seconds... Left is a very light linden blossom and week lily of the valley. Sad cause the notes are so well composed...

On paper: A shot of lime in a sugar rimmed glass. Side of lemongrass. That’s it. On skin: Juicy lemon, lime and a bit of sugar. Minimalistic but pleasant.

Took about 15 sprays from the sample to get anything else but lemon pledge. all i'm getting is citronella. sorry mr bond, i'm sticking to eucris
