Stephanotis

Stephanotis reminded me a bit of Avon Today but greener and spicier. I had forgotten that Avon Today had the flower Stephanotis in the top notes until smelling Floris Stephanotis and it instantly reminded me of Avon Today. So the Top of Avon Today is very similar to the middle of Floris Stephanotis. Where Avon Today becomes more of a softer floral bouquet with a focus on tuberose, Floris Stephanotis stays very green (the above accords should include green and fresh spicy). Stephanotis flower to me in both of these perfumes smells like a jasmine sambac and neroli hybrid. Fresh, white and fresh spicy green. The carnation comes through for me here as well and I have to say even though this is marketed as a bridal floral I could see a man wearing this because of the fresh spicy and green aspects of this floral fragrance. The sharp spicy carnation goes well with the sharp green spiciness of the Stephanotis flower. Lily of the valley is quite soapy here so if you hate soapy classic floral fragrances don't attempt this. Very strong, long lasting, classic soapy floral with a fresh spicy and green character. The Floris website classification of this fragrance is correct it is a floral/green. And the marketing is correct, spot light on you (model with the spotlight on her) this perfume will get you noticed like every Bride wants to be. Classy, fresh, sophisticated memorable and very formal. Avon Today is a bit more casual. Floris Stephanotis is more formal. Both are beautiful kissing cousins. Floris Stephanotis is very pricy. I splurged but if you are on a budget a vintage Avon Today would be brilliant. Vintage on eBay run about $30.

Whilst not technically part of the Jasmine family, this delicate ‘wedding flower’ shares a number of similarities. Such a delightfully supple and unassuming perfume, supposedly created in 1816, exemplifies the beauty and purity you’d expect from such a flower tied to ceremony and commitment. The behaviour of this scent is initially expansive, rushing around you upon first spraying with all-encompassing white tubular petals and shooting green stems alike, before withdrawing to a whisper once it has blossomed. As it settles, an undercurrent of dry, muted spiciness emerges - a clove-like carnation, offering distance from the cushioned soapiness depicted earlier on. Wearing Stephanotis is like slipping into freshly cleaned linen after a thorough and unhurried bath. It carries the clarifying mental reset of a sunny Sunday morning. A seemingly simple floral with so much more to offer, if you simply give it the time to speak.

First impressions: (expensive sample) Ooo is it just me or is this honor woman by amouage only less spicy, and more smooth. Edit 1: Finished the sample and I gotta say I wish this was sold in the US. The full bottle is so expensive. I don’t know if it’s discontinued or what? Smells so classy and clean.

I have the vintage pure parfum and it is lovely. It doesn't last long or project but smells like no other floral that I have in my vast collection. It's deep, rich, sweet and fantastic. Like walking in a garden at night.

I want to love this yet I find it sickening.The notes are to my liking but I get nausea.Oh well I bought it because I trust Floris so I should have tested it .

Boy this sucker is STRONG! I got the remainder of someone's bottle in a swap recently as an extra and I wasn't sure what I'd think. I love florals, but white florals tend to be overpowering and kinda make me feel sick. I could tell even just by sniffing the bottle that this had the potential to give me a headache if I sprayed too much of it, so I just sprayed once on one wrist and then rubbed them together and that was the perfect amount. It's a bit heavy and soapy so it's not one I'll wear often, but I can see myself enjoying it when I'm in a certain mood.

The parfum I have is in a box that says 'By Appointment J Floris Ltd Perfumers to the late King George VI', so I'm dating it to the 1950s. Strong, heady floral with a saccharine sweet opening. That fortunately subsides and it becomes an orange blossom and jasmine paradise. For a perfume that originated in 1786 it doesn't smell dated at all, it's just summer in the tropics. Not a complex fragrance but beautiful nonetheless.

This starts out a big, green, soapy, clean and slightly masculine leaning spicy, aromatic fragrance. Reminding me of mainstream drug store, male orientated scents, from the 80s in a good way. You know the kind of scents you'd combine with a scented pomade cream or brillatine. And is very natural smelling throughout, with a touch of powderiness, in the opening blast. Its an old school type of fragrance. Very vintage or retro even, and leans towards classic perfumery. And I can see why it has traditionally been worn at weddings. After spraying, Stephanotis starts to settle quite quickly with no surprises. But I find that cant really pick out the orange blossom. But I do get the jasmine and the staphanotis; which is a really unique and big smelling white floral note; that is quite herbal and green. And then there is a spiciness, of which I am thinking is coming from the carnation and the coriander, which calms down the floral notes. I couldn't see myself falling in love with this as its not quite me. So I am glad that I only had a partial bottle. But its been very interesting to experience the stephanotis; as it is described as smelling like a blend of jasmine and lilies and I agree that it does. However, I do find it more intense and soapy then those two white flowers. Also, I've noticed that the citrus and honeysuckle are missing from the notes listed here on Fragrantica and I would say that I definitely smell both: citrus and honeysuckle in the composition. Especially the honeysuckle, which lends to the sweetness and warmth of this scent.

I was having a discussion with a friend of mine a few months ago on the topic of wedding fragrances. Despite her love for citrus aromatics, she vowed to wear a big white floral scent as her choice on her big day. I thought about this some more and concluded that I too felt that the essential wedding day scent would be flowery, strong and innocent. Stephanotis as I read somewhere was a popular choice for these particular events, so I was eager to discover what made this fragrance symbolise such a holy unity between two people. Stephanotis opens as a potent white floral. Strong and alcoholic for at least the first five minutes or so, I had my doubts of ever liking it. When settled, Stephanotis is buttery jasmine and soapy lily of the valley. I can see why women think 'wedding' when they smell Stephanotis. It's feminine and beautiful with that somewhat innocent touch. Some may relate the scent to a grandmother or an old-fashioned garden, however I see luxourious soaps and an image of the 1900's. This fragrance unfortunately doesn't last too well, with the fragrance almost completely vanished after four hours on the skin. I was surprised to see that this fragrance was produced in 1786, however it is believable to an extent. Stephanotis has that good, old-fashioned floral appeal.

Often overlooked, this is one of my favourites by Floris. True, the longevity is poor - but wearing it in winter really shows the scent at its best. It lasts 4 hours (not 2); peppery coriander and the carnation combine to give spice to a sweet floral which I personally, really like - it's well blended and distinctive. I'm not surprised it's been around so long, as a formula I haven't smelled anything else quite like it. I'm a fan of carnation scents anyway, so this sits alongside Malmaison on my shelf... if you like carnation I recommend you give this a try, in the cold weather if you can, to get the best from it :)

Several decades ago, Victoria's Secret was a classy store featuring lovely lingerie for the ladies and beautiful pajamas and robes for the gentlemen and Floris perfumes to set the mood. They also played gorgeous classical music overhead. It was a delightful experience to go there and during one trip I discovered Stephanotis Perfume. Stunningly Beautiful! I so wish I had kept the bottle. Even the satiny box was charming. Currently only available in bath oil form I am glad this ultra feminine, ultra divine scent is still part of the Floris brand. ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

This is the scent of wedding days, a fantasy of flowers and spice that melts into the skin like butter in a frying pan and clings softly for hours afterward. Some may find its sweet floral disposition a bit overwhelming, but for the romantics and true floral lovers out there, Stephanotis should be on your must-try list.

I have this and find I really don't need much of it as it lasts for hours. I'm not always in the mood for this as a little goes a long way and it can be a bit overpowering, but if you want a strong, enjoyable, good-quality floral scent that's stood the test of time, and will last you a while, this is a good one to try.
