Vert Fougere

I've wearing this for the 3rd time today having given it a couple of wears in the run up to Christmas. I can see at present the user votes leave a pretty confusing picture. I'm not surprised that this isn't universally loved. Vert Fougere is just not that sort of fragrance. If I had to sum the fragrance up I'd say its mature, austere and a little dark. While I do get smoke it does not dominate the composition as some are finding. For me this is very, very green. Very resinous. The glabanum is very prominent, and I could swear I detect angelica too though not listed. I wouldn't call this a fougere, though I suppose it does have a vague barbershop vibe. When wearing this I get the feeling of being in a huge coniferous forest, sat around the dying embers of a camp fire just a suggestion of smoke remaining. I think this is a very interesting fragrance. It's very different and one I would wear for my pleasure alone though oddly enough my girlfriend likes it too. I'd say you need to be a fan of green resinous fragrances to appreciate this. While its not really much like anything I've tried before there are very vague similarities to Profumum Roma Arso (less smoke) and the almost melancholy green quality in Frederic Malle French Lover. Longevity is better than most offerings from this house. It projects very well for around 2 hours, this slowly retreats and becomes a strong skin scent afterwards lasting up to 10-12 hours. I'm 7 hours into my current wearing and still being rewarded with wafts of resinous green goodness.

To me its a daytime perfume! Its a very special Fougere with smoke. Smoke can hit hard at first smell but give it 20 minutes and all ingredients come nice until lavender with base notes makes this very green but also a bit earthy. I use this as a kind of signature during daytime at autumn and guess it will be nice also for sping. Its not a summer perfume to me and its not winter either. Its an inbetween scent and do its job about that. Very masculine so I not see this as Unisex at all. It has a classic vibe from 60s, 70s, begin of 80s but also a bit modern. That green with tree notes with some flowers and smoke make it perfect for a walk or at an early visit at a pub or a café. Its an old school perfume with a nice perforamace. I recommend this as above for 30+ men.

This is just great. Start out with a punchy fougere style. Ends up a powdery fougere. Very nice. I must have gone nose blind because my daughter let me know I was wearing "a lot". It was about 6hrs in to the wear when I saw her. I'm also outside a lot for work. So that's a good testament on its power and spillage. I'm happy to have it in my collection!

Glad to see this finally added to the DB. A fantastic old-school and yet unique fougere by Floris. Very dense and green. The Galbanum, patchouli and lavender are at the front and perfectly balanced. And what an outstanding performance!

Let it dry down. Do not judge it by the first spray.

This feels like the first Floris I could consider "niche" and it's great for it. First thing that sprang to mind was Royal Mayfair, they both share a campherous opening note but after this open Vert Fougere has a medicinal green note (I am thinking oil of wintergreen) that has been freshened up...but then has a smoke note added. At this point I'm feeling it's conceptually like (but not the same) as DS&Durga Burning Barbershop whch I also thought was great. Vert Fougere is much more green, bitter and spicy though, compared to the charred mint and lavender soap in Burning Barbershop. There is an elegance to this, but it's also brash and bold. So be prepared to smell something that's not like a typical Floris, this is more like if there was a Beaufort and Floris collab.

The opening is harsh, smoky, and pungent. The cannibus references are accurate for the most part, but after the opening settles it becomes much more wearable and enjoyable. However, one must love green scents, I certainly do. Feels more like a woody aromatic than a fougere due to the smokiness and woodiness, but since the cashmere wood is so smooth here, the end result gives off a barbershop vibe. I love that the perfumer used cashmere, instead of tonka, an excellent replacement if you ask me. I also get cypress here, a note I love dearly. To me, the overall smell reminds me of vintage Polo with smoke and cashmere. The late dry down gets a little floral, feels like there might be jasmine in the composition. A nice one for the colder months.

Vert Fougere is a fragrance with a classic vibe twisted with a very unique green note, I would say. The opening of VF is quite pungent with this unique green note - not the clean and fresh green smell you would normally expect, but somewhat bitter, smoky and creamy green, which could be described as cannabis-like as some other reviewers say. If you don’t like this opening, this fragrance is not for you. Personally, I like this opening because that’s what makes VF different. Also, the dry-down is very sophisticated and sexy. Definitely a mature scent for grownups, age of above 30.

I disliked this a lot when it was fresh out the box. There was a bitter pine smell that I hated, but after spray it a few times and letting the bottle sit a few months, the pine is still very much there but it's complimented and contrasted perfectly now. It's not at all overpowering as it was when new. Masculine barbershop freshie but with an earthy smokey twist. Kind of a sexy and modern take on the old classic barbershop fragrances. My only criticism is that the smoke is remarkably realistic and actually smells like cigarette smoke.

Blind bought a 10ml bottle of this in Floris sale and I'm happy with that purchase. It has a coherent, well done scent profile (reminds me a bit of Acqua Di Parma Colonia Futura in its green herbiness though not its smokiness) and I'll be happy to use it occasionally, but not more than that, so 10ml is sufficient. It's one I can admire to some degree for it's artistry but isn't the sort of thing that would come above many other things in deciding what to put on that day. So 10ml rather than full bottle is the perfect size I reckon

Opens like a fresh, zesty spritzer, then continues light and smoky on a bed of moss and spring flowers. Minimal projection but enough scent sitting on the skin to ease you into the day feeling fragranced. EDIT: Returning to this today, I am struck by what a welcome antidote it is to amber/vanilla fragrances, should you tire of them: there is a camphorous kick in the tail of vert fougere which is bracing and earthy at the same time.

Warm, green scent. Like sitting in a parlor room with leather armchairs, or a barbershop surrounded by greenery. Dried down, there's a slight hint of marijuana (must be from the smoke accord and the florals).

This is a weird one. I like it, but I don't love it. At least not yet. I guess I'll settle with an "ok" for now. What does Floris Vert Fougere smell like? It's a very dry, woodsy and green scent. It's a barbershop with a twist. It smells like a tobacco bomb - cigarette ash, to be more exact - combined with the scent of a sharpened pencil, combined with green notes, (could it be vetiver?), mixed with the olfactory sensation of something that smells like a fruity chewing-gum. Not a great one and certainly no masterpiece, but I just might become more used to it in the future. To me, this scent is definitely meant to be worn in fall and winter, and could most likely be worn day and night. Not a poor fragrance, but not a great one either. Final score: 6/10.

when i smell this fragrance...i picture someone sitting on an oversized leather chair, in a dark room, lit only by the fire place. a glass of cognac in one hand, a marijuana cigarette in the other, just ashing on the floor, no f@$%× given. divorce papers on an end table next to them with a revolver resting on top like a paperweight, ready to end it all...or end someone else. this is what i imagine a bond villain would smell like. its an angry, dark fragrance. i sampled this fragrance first and was so intimated by it's scent...that i purchased a full bottle. Vert Fougère literally bullied me into buying it. i guess i would wear this in the winter time, on a cold dark night, while watching serial killer documentaries. idk what to do with it.

Cigarette ash and galbanum are the dominant notes to my nose especially early on. Drydown smells a lot like tonka: it's sweet. Too sweet for me personally. Interestingly Vert Fougere does have a fougere mood to it. Vert Fougere should probably be called Fougere Vert, right? "Green Fougere", not "Green: The Fougere". Anyway this is interesting, and I respect it. But I wish they didn't try quite so hard at remaking the fougere. Bitter green in smell, grey in feel. Reserved, cold, aloof, sophisticated, English. It's a respectable release that'll never be a mass market success.

It’s quite a suffocating, closed-off scent. Like a shrubbery composition mixed with the contents of an ashtray. It’s similar to something, and maybe a bit irritating because it lacks release. Yes, perhaps it leans toward that dreadful Pino Silvestre, but in a darker and more refined tone?

Thank you reviewer Chicken. There's a huge marijuana top note in this stuff. I just sprayed this out of my little decant. I've lived in Northern California since 1968 and I'd recognize pot anywhere. Massive blast of it in this fragrance. And not 60's hippie pot either. Intense legal pot store/lounge pot. Wasn't expecting this with Floris, but I guess they're really trying to do something about their allegedly stodgy image. Whatever. I'll add to this review when I'm more than 5 minutes into it. Ok, 2+ hours into it, that's not a top note, it's a huge marijuana heart note too. (Smokey base note, indeed. Ha.) Vert Fougere never really gets beyond that though, especially if you've gotten some of it on your clothes. However, I'm beyond this; it's not cutesy to me. If I wanted to smell like pot, I'd smoke the sh**. I don't; I want to smell like perfume... And to think this retails out at what, $190? (Oh, that's right, pot is expensive now, so I guess Floris thinks $190 won't be a problem for their customer attracted to this market. I can't get used to that. I remember when pot was $100 a kilo.) For the first time maybe ever, there are no discernible barbershop notes in this Floris scent. If you're looking for barbershop, get an old time vintage Floris scent like No. 127 or Elite or almost any other man's scents Floris made before maybe 1980. Their Spencer Hart is pretty good for a newer barbershop scent. Floris made some great ones, and although the name Vert Fougere complies with that theme, the juice here absolutely does not.

Update 2: this is nasty, sorry. Tried again tonight and it really smells like they paired a cheap fougere like scent with a smokey soup. Almost nauseating and a scrubber. My wife made one of the worst faces when she smelled that one. Update 1: after three days and a few more sprays the bottle has changed Believe it or not Maybe it is such a new fragrance and the bottle is also brand new and the juice needed to settle. So, the opening is indeed very smoke forward. You smell only this light, slightly acrid smoke. But after a few minutes, it evolves into a barbershop a slightly smokey barbershop fragrance, like Sartorial or Invasion Barbare more precisely. Really not unpleasant.

What an odd scent. I am getting strong weed smell right at the spray. Layer in some smoke and that is basically what you get. You have to wait a bit and then you can sense a bit of a barbershop aspect of this but only if you can get through the weed and smoke. This is not something I want to smell like. I hadn't read the reviews before ordering a sample and had only read a description. That was obviously way off as I was expecting something totally different. No big deal...live and learn but this is a big pass for me.

Initial spray: This is a can of Skoal mint chewing tobacco. I'm aware there are no mint notes, no tobacco notes. But if you've ever opened a can of Skoal mint chew, then you know. This is it. Damp and wet earth and synthetic scent. Dry down: Smells like old less offensive Skoal mint chew and a faint hint of a man's cologne with some smoke. Not my bag.

Personally, I found to be so unpleasant to the point I was rushing home to wash it off. It's just way too much for me. sharp greens mixed with synthetic woody/smokey/earthy smell. It's like a dirtycigarette ashtray mixed with sharp green herbs. This one is my least favourite Floris. Actually I think it's the only one. Do Not Blind Buy!

Floris Vert Fougere EDP with rapid drydown and very modest projection "If you can smell me, we really should just make out." Brand new scent 2020 Nose Nicola Pozzani Top: Galbanum, Bergamot, Grapefruit Middle: Ginger, Neroli, Lavender Base: Smoke, Cashmeran, Cedar, Amber, Patchouli OK: I think it was Curly Fragrance, 'Just let the scent come to you' from Michelina. This is hugely profound and has made a huge difference in my appreciation of fragrance. So. . . do this. Back your nose away, and try to relax. It is so hard nowadays. Ignition: The Galbanum is really nice and present on the open. If you like Grey Flannel on a rainy day, you will love the more gentle approach of Floris--offset by some Bergamot, Grapefruit, Ginger, and Lavender. This takes the super decaying green aspect out alittle bit. Since I love forest floor I love Galbanum. However, Galbanum is not at all woody to me. 'Resinous' loosely describes Galbanum. in my opinion, Galbanum seems to have an Ivy quality to it. Side Rant: My dad used to make me trim hundreds of feet of Algerian Ivy with hand shears. (We did not live in Algeria, it was just the Ivy.) I looked at him and he said, 'Don't worry these shears are like razors, I sharpened them myself.' Ivy when it is hot, Ivy when it is misting. All I did was trim Ivy with razor sharp shears. Lolita Lempicka uses Ivy and I just love it so much. It reminds me of my Dad even though his yardwork assignments my violate Child Labor. Galbanum may have an ivy-quality to it with somewhat of a resinous quality. When it comes to Floris Vert Fougere, the most exciting thing of all is what I found in the community comments which were absolutely great. I really enjoyed it. Lots of comments on a "weediness" and I detect it. It reminds me more of the great Mexican weed from the sixties(Oaxacan) than the gross, laboratory grown of today. Oh well, weed--whatever. I am more of a stimulant person. You see, I eat a helluva lot and I sure don't need the Munchies. Some super good coffee and an authentic Bear Claw with lots of lemon and Marzipan. My drug of choice. The weed? Smoke, patch, cedar may be forming this weed-accord-thing. Side Rant with hot sauce: Laboratories try too hard. Now that we have all been pounded by their brilliance, buried in the dung heap of note-heavy, trendy crap, houses like Sisley really do it for me. Eau Tropical from Sisley. Yep. It is all in the touch, you either have it or you don't. Not that many houses can do note-heavy but to the good ones I humbly bow. Now Sisley--there is a really refined and beautiful lab. Not too much, still in touch with real beauty. Get into that weird Lentisque or Mastic from Sisley(Ref: Eau d Ikar review). It is a great way to push your snoot into other experiences. You may just decide, 'I hate it'. Fun, huh? Go back to it later, and go back again. This Mastic is weird stuff, just like Vert Fougere. I recommend a decant and an open mind. You know, I think I have a bias toward more traditional. Not barbership, though I love it. I mean some kind of guy thing with no nonsense. I just love Dunhill, and Roja Brittania, Mr. Burberry Indigo or even Dunhill Leather. This is consistent with one community member describing Vert Fougere as 'somber'. It is kind of earthy and has a formality to it. I just love it so much I am out of my mind over it. I heavy sprayed all over my chest and arms. The dry-down is indescribable except that it reminds me of a daily life scent in simpler times. On my skin it even has an overtone of Bazooka Bubblegum. That does not sound elegant, but it is just a weird, subtle hint. My skin is an absorption monster. I feel certain it is some strange drydown of the smoke, ginger and some citrus. Vert Fougere is Actually Lots of Fun: I can really enjoy the poppin' Sisley Au Tropicale which is one of my all time favorites. I've got some Juicy Malibu I sometimes spray just for myself or maybe to bring joy to an empty room. Oh yes, I love the fresh, clean, playful and light hearted fragrance. However, in my heart-of-hearts I am a traditional guy and a ultra-hardline gentleman. I am individualistic, non-declarative, humble but with a quiet confidence. If you are a true gentleman and come from far in the past in some sense, this is the worth a decant try. Right now, I am going back to Floris, Grossmith, Miller Harris, Dunhill, Castle Forbes etc. As always for me--I collect animalics for winter. If you enjoy working on strange British or Scando cars, trimming wood, raking leaves, pruning bushes to look natural, grinding your own Garam Masala, using a tulip auger to fix the toilet--YOU are a new age gent!!. Still, part of being a gentleman is good judgement--decant first or be pissed off later.

Bottles and style can go along way when it comes to fragrance, and I'm not going to sugar coat it - Floris has this very old school, old fashioned, traditional sort of vibe. I avoided it for years after smelling a few that literally smelt like soap. Hard pass please. Last week I was in a department store and they had a collection of about 10 or so Floris scents in bell jars that you can lift off and easily smell (genius idea). Smelt them all and until I was caught off guard with this and went back for another taste. It was wonderful. I sampled up on skin and was still loving it 6 hours later in the shower before bed. I even avoided washing my wrist to prolong the scent. I've since brought a full bottle. Reading the reviews below, these comments stand out and resonate with me. "I'd say its mature, austere and a little dark". "Almost nauseating" "Its an old school perfume with a nice performance. I recommend this as above for 30+ men". It's certainly fresh, but it has much more of this mysterious darkness. My other half loves it. Ridiculously masculine and mature. It's old school and regal and dare I say a perfect fit for the Floris brand in general. Google them and look at their London shopfront, if an image could go with a scent that's it. There is a sickly note hidden away that's a little nauseating for the first hour. I can't place it, but I totally agree with this comment. It's not a deal breaker at all, but it's enough to recommend you sample this and not blind buy. I also agree with the old school vibes but also with the modern twist. The modern aspect coming from the weedy / cannabis like note. The rest of it feels traditional, like a historic playhouse, theatre or opera house. Performance is fine. It's not a beast but not a kitten either. It's polite and quintessential English Gentlemen (or English Lady, if a women chooses to give this a go). Masculine, and mature, almost serious. Wear when it's cold or chilly, early Spring, Autumn or Winter. Day or night, doesn't seem fussy. I can't see this being pleasant at all during a hot summer day. Formal serious occasional, like weddings, funerals, interviews or office meetings a big Yes. Less formal, like dates or overdue catch ups with friends in a pub or restaurant all get a thumbs up too. Very informal settings, like the beach, the gym, drinks after work etc. Big No. It's not suitable for everyday wear, but in the right settings absolutely yes!

Really interesting and bold scent, and I think they did a decent job giving the traditional lavender fougere a modern edge. Unfortunately I now realize that I don't like lavender. Here it's dusty and herbal, propped up with ginger to embellish the spiciness. It's the "oldschool" and "mature" facet of the fragrance that reminds me of Caron pour un Homme (vaguely, as I still don't have a lot of experience with lavender). There are shades of green in here but I wouldn't call this a green fragrance- the galbanum and neroli is only present enough to suggest that maybe there's something natural underneath. The smoke is the star of the show and is nicely blended. It's not tobacco or incense but more like ash. It doesn't really remind me of a campfire but something more pungent like a prairie of smoldering shrubs and bushes. I'm currently wearing Cowboy Grass which is another herbal, spicy-smoky kind of fragrance and they are fun to compare. Vert Fougere is alive and dense at the same time. It's aromatic lavender bushes on fire, thrown into a fougere structure that implies you just got a haircut and a shave after trying to put it out.

This is awesome, it’s not overt Smokey too, shame this was discontinued had an ode to past but certainly has modern touches. I’m quite impressed. This is an upscale barbershop giving out $100-$150 haircuts or something I’d wear going to a country club to work on my golf swing and tennis swing. Smells like something nostalgic but it’s so damn modern I guess that’s timeless. No where as Smokey as burning barbershop at all. Beyond the layers I get a high quality soap, I’d go light on the sprays though I can see this being nauseating in certain conditions though. Just a few sprays for presence. I’m disappointed this was discontinued though...10/10 Update - this is an upgraded version of Masque Milano Sleight of Fern and it lasts a lot longer too, that one was maybe a tad more powdery and this is a but I think it’s mainly the strength in Vert Fougere where it shines. The medicinal opening calms down after 3/5 minutes. I think if you can get past the opening which can be different for everyone, and if you like fougeres you might be in for a treat. I still give this a 10/10.

very strong & lasts forever on me but not very "mass appealing". I get tobacco (listed as "smoke") first & foremost supported by what I believe to be the combination of cedar & casherman. This Texas/Himalayan style smoky cedar combined with the casherman is what I believe many reviewers are referring to when they say it's unpleasant. I also get a mix of galbanum, ginger & lavender which does add a touch of freshness later but it takes awhile to reach this. I found this to be one of the longest lasting fragrances I've ever used. I do own & use several Floris creations. I can't help but to wonder if they tried too hard to be different on this one. Trying to reinvent or put a twist on the fougere that doesn't quite work imho. I believe it's been discontinued.

@Made by Kouros, I had to consider the name after reading your remarks. "Fougère" is a feminine noun in French, so this might reasonably have been called Fougère Verte (not Vert). But "vert fougère" is the French name for a colour (or range of colours) that we speakers of English might call fern green. ("Fougère" here becomes an adjunct modifying the noun "vert". Similarly, alongside "fougères", the French might talk about "parfums fougères", with "fougères" again acting like an adjective.) This, then, is nominally a fern green fragrance--like countless more classically fern-like fougères, I suppose. 🤔

I was really curious about this one but upon spraying I got hit with some HARSH green notes which make the fragrance completely unwearable. You have to be a fan of dark green notes to appreciate this, otherwise forget about it. I love fougeres but the green notes completely overshadow any semblance of the fougere structure. Don't be fooled by the rather normal looking note pyramid, this is a challenging nice scent. 3/10.

Aristocratic and classy green-spicy fougere. Different. It smells very nice. I love the grapefruit, ginger, and lavender combination, contrasted by the lightly ambery sweetness of the smoky notes. There is a green smell in this composition. I don't generally like green notes, but whatever this is, it sits very well. Masculine and mature composition, but I think it would wear attractively on women. It's a buy for me.

So I admit that sometimes I need to wear something 3-5 times before I really get it, but this one is sooo odd to me on first wear. The opening smells like powdery licorice toothpaste. The dry-down smells like smokey camphor. Not for me - glad I just have the sample Update: So I actually LOVE this one now - I guess it grew on me. I'm sort of obsessed with this scent and can't wait to get a bottle!

Great scent, not like you would imagine (the “reminds me of”) is not accurate in the slightest. This is extremely close to the typical barbershop 💈 fragrances! Very similar to beau de jour, Zino, Caron homme and not a fragrance but Carmex lip balm! 100% recommend to barbershop frag lovers 👌🏼 Beast mode performance for 3-4 hours and then down to a light green creamy scent. Super stuff!

Opens with a burnt rubber accord (smoke? cashmeran?) that quickly evolves into an amber, somewhat floral (neroli) softness. Green, indeed. Galbanum and greenery float amid a smoky cloud of warm and familiar fougère notes. Definitely not like anything else I've tried or own. Sticks close to the skin. Proper and gentlemanly, as is expected from the British house of Floris.

I indicated that this reminds me of Acqua di Parma Colonia Intensa but of course it's not the same, it's just that there seems to be ginger note in there which I like. But then it develops in a much smoother, subtle and masculine way. The smoke at the beginning is a bit of a shock but it seems to calm down after 20-30 minutes.

Smells awesome, but it’s definitely unusual. Super sharp, smokey wintergreen and licorice vibe. Makes you want to clear your throat. This is what you imagine CS Lewis smelled like. Mint chewing tobacco is a great comparison from one of the other reviewers. There is something satisfyingly evocative of the old world about it.

Sour citrus galbanum.... I got that kind of gluey galbanum, with citrus of grapefruit, some neroli, and some Smokey cashmere. I also get on the drydown some ginger, touch of cedar, elemi, & lavender patchouli mix. It is an interesting blend as it was eye catchy when first applied. Nice.

On paper: Camphorous, smoked aromatic herbs. Thyme, mint, sage and liquorice root. On skin: Very similar but even more focused on the liquorice on my skin and I can’t stand liquorice.

I have only had this for three days and it is everything I could want from a perfume a smouldering green forest so beautiful and it lasts all day just love it!
