Smuggler's Notch

Wowwowwow Incredible, absolutely incredible perfumery going on here, This opens with a blend of extremely well balanced spices however it is careful and never shouts too loud to the point of it being overwhelming. Autumnal, spicy and sweet although the sweetness lies in a soft base, distinguishing itself from other basic sweet spicy perfumes. This is a very complex perfume - almost mouth watering, its not a gourmand by any means its just so great that it feels like pure comfort and peace in the colder days. Its super clear, as clear and refreshing as a breath of fresh air in a cold morning. Apple pie that avoids being in your face (I absolutely detest sweet gourmand over saturated perfumes) and this is no where near this. For sure one of the best folkwinds ive tried so far, I thought from the notes it may be too heavy, thick and potentially cloying however every element of this perfume balances it out so its not too much yet doesn't disappoint. Freshly chopped wood, spicy yet mellow Christmas, delicious yet not too sweet. masterpiece

I was blessed to try a pre-release sample of this fragrance and I ended up wearing it all week long! It is FAN - effing - tastic!!!! I found the more I wore it the more I liked it. With no notes list I got Spiced Fruit, black tea, some smokey ambergris. After getting the official notes list (and talking to Jono) spiced apple, hay + flouve is giving me the tea vibe (which I adore) no ambergris so it was the musk (shrugs). 4 sprays got me through the day EASILY and I only reapplied to get more of the sweetness in the opening which I thoroughly enjoy. Great frag in my opinion. Full Bottle worthy. It's deep rich and moreish! Must...Love...HAY! Jono if you see this...More of this pls! Concord grape Smugglers notch would be insane! lol

The perfumer, Jono Bornstein, created this perfume with the idea of capturing the scent of a mountain pass in northern Vermont. He succeeded. This is a shape-shifter perfume with longevity but without massive sillage. The opening brings out the tobacco, maple, and apple notes. As the fragrance settles, different facets of the perfume become detectable throughout the day: wafts of tea, spices, an occasional passing rose, and incense burning in the cold woods of the northeast. Smuggler’s Notch will bring you to another place if you close your eyes, clear your mind, and take in the aromatics that have been so well blended.

Quite blown away by the 4th scent from Folkwinds. It represents a giant leap forward for the young perfumer. Sits somewhere between an old Slumberhouse offering and an Ensar Oud Attar, ending up at a brilliant and unexpected naturalism of an experimental scope that transcends cultural background. The deer musk and Nha Trang Oud sing from the base, melding beautifully with the apple and tobacco notes. From the description I almost steered clear. But in practice it smells great: familiar and new at the same time. Glad I got to sample this.

A limited edition rugged unique offering from this new brand focused on evoking deep Americana olfactory evocations. This scent is an evocation of a mountain pass region in Vermont, which was used as a smuggling route until the early 1900s. The scent is a deep dark musky tobacco driven juice that opens with barley, maple, spruce and oak. The heart is tobacco, apple and Orris. The perfume settles on a bed of woody notes, grassy notes and musk. The masculine leaning scent starts very strong and softens rapidly leaving a powdery tea like finish on skin. Not for everyone but like other releases from the brand has an Americana outdoors feel to it and evocative of times gone by in foresty mountains. Enjoy!

Smells like the apple Chutney I make for pork chops. Not sure why on earth A person would want to smell like this.

What feels like an improvement in blend vs prior releases; It's a lush green perfume with quite the sweetness backed by a combination of tobacco, oud and apple. None of these last few notes are prominent alone but work in harmony to provide an amazing base. The type of fragrance I'd want to wear going for a hike, or at a cabin during summer. It behaves beautifully in windy temperatures. IG: eatandsmellgood

Balance of dry and damp tobacco layered upon oak, apple, hay, and musks. Ultimately dries down to mostly tobacco that actually is increased in moisture in the drawdown. Apples and spice surround the tobacco and oud help anchor it. Definitely performs as an all natural base heavy fragrance. I likely to spray liberally to get a nice cloud of scent. A complex fragrance with a simple heart.

I used to ski at Smuggler's Notch as a kid, so I'm charmed and intrigued by this! (I also used to think it was called "Snuggler's Notch," though that's not especially relevant here.)
