Onthamara

DARK AND SMOKY PERFECTLY DONE MYSTERY Oh my, I haven't worn this for months and I'm amazed every time I do. I know I'm in the minority again as a woman who loves such scents. The opening is mind-blowing, incredibly beautiful and at the same time mystical. The scent is like a dark thick sticky veil, the very resinous texture is laced with delicate animalic aromas. Hyraceum, Cumin, Beeswax and Castoreum are noticeable, but they are utterly gentle and perfectly soft. I don't think they are challenging at any point and in no way dirty, although it's worth remembering that I haven't encountered any animalic aromas, which would be too much for me. Often, due to wearability, I have to wonder how other people experience such scents. In addition to the other animalic notes, the musk is also much cleaner than, for example, in "Mongolian Mriga | Prin" . It is not clearly animalic, but remains delicate and sensual all the time. The heavy smokiness of the beginning quickly dissipates and makes room for the other notes as the scent becomes sweeter. The beeswax seems to melt and allows the spicy aroma of cinnamon to shine through. The subtle smokiness remains and adds an enigmatic touch to the perfectly blended concoction. One of my favorite notes, Labdanum, makes everything blend into the skin's own scent seamlessly and imperceptibly. Similar to Francesca Bianchi's fragrances, for the inexperienced, many of Prin Lomros's fragrances may resemble each other. They use completely natural ingredients (Francesca Bianchi is cruelty-free though) and therefore the general style of the fragrances is of course very similar, and certain notes are similar to each other. The differences mainly come only from the ratios of the ingredients used. I would say that Onthamara's special feature is smokiness and if you don't like that, then this fragrance is completely impossible to wear. The smokiness also makes this challenging in terms of wearability, as the aroma can easily be as off-putting to people around you as the edgy animalic notes. Onthamara definitely reminds me of a campfire, around which I have sat for hours, the smoke from the campfire clinging to my hair and clothes. The next time I put on the same outerwear, the smoke is still there, as beautiful memories. This is my experience with Onthamara, after wearing it numerous times. Prin is a master perfumer who is also incredibly prolific and versatile and creative. A glance at the overwhelming number of notes will tell you this requires some time and study to try and identify them in any accurate way. For those hoping to fill a room with a scent this might not be the best choice. Sure, it is strong and it has two kinds of powerful oud, pine tar, spruce to open up with power. But what makes this fragrance a modern masterpiece is how well-blended and shape-shirting it is. Its dna is tied to some of Prin's other scents but I have not yet tested or purchased two other new releases, Oquatchol and Rahassanai that are cousins or maybe brothers to this one. I encourage people who want to own a mythical fragrance to do so soon. It is a limited edition and I think there are less than 20 left. Please read Rajesh's review below. I will say each time I bring my wrist up to smell, the fragrances has morphed just a tiny bit. I love it.

In my opinion, here you have the best use of Siberian Deer Musk in perfumery, so far. I'm a long advocate and lover of the original EO2 parfum, but this one is better. More complex, has more balls, and better blended. Oh, did I mention it's half the price and at a higher concentration? Yes. Onthamara uses two core materials that lead the composition as a duet, the musk and the amber fossil. They marry beautifully here, the musk with it's animalic, earthy, chocolatey and pissy facets, perfectly tamed by the smokiness, dryness, leathery, and sweet facets of the amber. Around these, you have other notes dancing around, rounding everything. Woods, spices, tobacco. At the end, you get this multifaceted smoky, ambery, musky perfume, that makes people get close to you, and dances around like a hypnotic aura for hours and hours. Perfectly dosed dirtiness, never too much to offend, just enough to intrigue. I love it so much, I had to get a backup. Top 3 ever Prin releases for me, and quite possibly my favorite from him. Representations of the devil have historically and culturally ranged from a hyper-endowed he-goat to a suave, well-dressed man and just about everything in-between. Prin’s Onthamara, meaning “darkness devil” in Thai, shrouds fossilized amber, pine tar, celery seed, and lavender in an excellent use of Siberian musk and one herb or the other to create an old, musty, and slightly oily perfume that is as much enticing as it is accursed. Think of Na Hong-jin’s 2016 film, "The Wailing," where in the closing moments of the film a strange, golem-like, old man reveals his true demonic form, red-eyed and punctured by stigmata. Onthamara is an ugly perfume that smells good, and Prin Lomros’ crowning achievement in perfumery manages to make conversations around unconventional fragrances pointless. Here, the “everything but the kitchen sink” approach includes a cauldron, and the odorous becomes odious. Many of us are fine with that but what’s wrong with us?

Dark, evocative, smoky and deep animalic Oriental fougere designed as a representation of a dark demon god. The bold perfume contains a central animalic note composed of fossilized amber, hyrax, castoreum and real deer musk. This is surrounded by a plethora of exotic notes like lovage root, black spruce, jatamansi, camphor, beeswax and a host of other dark aromatic notes. It is a kitchen sink but it works incredibly to create a seamless dark potion. This is truly the olfactory equivalent to excavating an ancient beast from a tomb. The masculine leaning scent has moderate to strong sillage and very good longevity. Prin Lomros knows how to push all boundaries and this is his finest hour. A modern masterpiece. Enjoy!
