Harem Rose

As usual the "reminds me" section is completely confusing. I've only had Harem Rose a few days.. so still figuring out what I think about it.....but no it is nothing like Oud Satin Mood or Rose D'Isparta (I own both) - the only thing those fragrances have in common with Harem Rose is ROSE... :D This is unlike anything I own - it is unique......looking back at how reviewers and the Fort&Manle website describe it I think the word "antique" sounds apt. Of course I expect it will mature and change over the next few days and I will UPDATE if I can contribute anything else. Some fragrances are not easy to put into words.... If you love roses, as I do, I think this is a good addition. It is difficult to locate and even on discounters websites it's pretty expensive for the 50ml - also like the majority of fragrances I've bought its near impossible to find somewhere to test/sample it. ** Samples/discovery sets are not easily available where I live either, so I never bother with buying samples I figure I'd rather put my limited fragrance budget towards a full bottle and take a chance.

I have samples of both the original and the reformulation. Original is an unremarkable ambery rose that leans heavily on incense. The reformulated (gold cap) version of Harem Rose is deeper and much more satisfying, imho. The rose reminds me of the luscious rose in Bulgarian rose oil, sticky and silky at the same time. The supporting players - springy vetiver, a resinous edge, soft woodiness - round it out and make it unisex. It's gorgeous and richly romantic on my husband, but he doesn't wear it much. When I wear Harem Rose, it feels ornate yet approachable; it's served me well for formal family occasions like weddings and funerals. On me it's fairly linear, lasting 10h+ on skin with a close sillage that turns heads. So far it's the most noticed and complimented of all my samples, which surprises me because I assumed it would come off as basic in passing, like so many rose fragrances do. People seem to dial into the warm well-rounded rose right away, just like I did.

There's a 3D effect in this one that I find interesting - all the facets of rose coming together to create a kind of olfactory sculpture. It starts out on the dewy, vegetal side, and as the perfume evolves, it becomes darker, richer and more complex. Someone described that rose as "gothic" and it strikes me as the best adjective, especially because, to my nose, there's a strong beeswax note in here that, associated with that whisper of incense, reminds me of votive candles. The orientalist inspiration behind this perfume is obvious as soon as you put it on, and it becomes even clearer as it settles on your skin: it's sensual and warm, with ambery facets, and a lushness that will remind you more of a hammam than of an English garden. I find this very seductive, and even though it's very much not my style, I'd find it absolutely irresistible on someone else. There's a complexity in it that fascinates me. If you're a rose fiend, you might want to give that one a try.

A little birdie told me this is no ordinary rose. Not sure why fragrantica only listed one lonely rose note, from the website: Amber, benzoin, vanilla, rose, cashmere woods, vetiver. This is definitely a resinous, warm spicy rose, and the rose itself is no common rose damascus is my guess (and I see some of the other reviewer's also.) It's exotic and spicy. The FM website doesn't list spices but it feels subtly spicy. Couldn't pick out what exactly maybe saffron or nutmeg. Really nice scent! Glad I got talked into it. Lots of tea upon further tries. The kind I smelled in Moustache...bergamotish. This lasts incredibly well. Gets super spicy and resinous on the dry, rose still there too. Love it. **Several hours later. A sweet sweet vetiver. This note is the bomb dot com it is typically the one that lasts all the way to the end. In my opinión one of the most interesting fragances of this Bran. It is happening something weird yo me with these perfumes. Before trying them i had some ideas about which Inés k would like and which Inés i dont... But i am failing all muy suposiciones!! 😂 In this case i thought...one rose perfume more? Lyric, black aoud, noir de noir, une rose... I have already some rose fragances on my collection so i wouldnt even tried It.. but as It comes into a Discovery set i am just trying It now and... It is gorgeous! It is rose, yes, but a very different rose, very ambery and dark, but without the typical litera of patchouli and oud that these kind of fragances usually have... This is different to all my other rose fragances and is something that i could imaginé buying. The performance is better than in other f&m perfumes. I find It unisex and very versatile... Es una rosa oscura con un toque, aunque no aparece en notas,como de vino. Tengo un frasco de los antiguos y no me acordaba de él, mientras tanto me he ido poniendo otras rosas más ligeras,más confitadas, más góticas. La rosa es mi nota favorita y tengo y he tenido muchos perfumes de rosa. Pero este es distinto a los demás,es un olor muy diferente a todos. Me encanta. Después de mucho tiempo lo he vuelto a usar y he pensado buaaahhh que maravilla,cómo no lo he vuelto a usar!! Si lo comparo con alguno diría que es primo de oud satin mood.

A regal, velvety rose that feels luxurious rather than romantic. This is not a fresh or girly rose, it’s deep, warm, and quietly powerful, wrapped in amber, benzoin, and soft woods. The texture is what makes it special: plush, smooth, and almost fabric-like on skin. It carries a refined oriental character without becoming sweet or heavy, making it feel elegant and composed rather than dramatic.

A truly unique and artistic fragrance. The strong rose, amber and spice lay over a lovely incense/musk base (which appears in many/most of the F&M scents, to my nose). But, this one also has some unconventional notes in the mix. In the dry down, I also get a strong, lingering camphor/medicinal effect that doesn’t seem like something that would work with the other notes, somehow does...

A mysterious rose,languid and almost sad.... quite melancholy like perfume, it suits me very much, the drydown is very beautiful! I recommend trying this! I love it!!! Sillage: 6.5/10 Longevity: 7./10 Scent: 8./10 Overall: 8./10

The greatest rose scent ever. Ladies, you really actually need this.

The word that comes to mind when trying to describe this pretty perfume is “medium”. Don’t get me wrong, I like it a lot. It features a lovely rose that is neither light and piquant nor deep and velvety. So, medium. The other notes including amber, wood and benzoin definitely play a supporting role and keep it from being a true soliflore but they are never very apparent in the way patchouli and oud dominate so many other modern rose fragrances. They are medium. Although Harem Rose could maybe almost be considered a soliflore due to those other restrained notes it doesn’t have the juicy almost technicolor aspect of the Serge Lutens rose in “La Fille de Berlin”. It’s a bit dryer and less vivacious, but it is quite present, unlike some other scents with rose listed as a main note where you really have to search out the rose amongst the stew of other ingredients. So, again, a medium rose. It’s fairly unisex. The sillage and the longevity, also medium. The one thing that isn’t medium is the price. But then again the cost of perfumes has gotten so crazy, and I could see this actually being a pretty good value for someone that would wear it a lot as it’s medium qualities will fit into most situations and make it an easy choice.

My first impression following a tiny spritz from a sample vial was, wow- this is lush, rich, fresh, and almost languid. I can actually imagine a sunny open-air sort of harem filled with young beautiful women lazing about on fainting couches and overstuffed pillows, while a gentle breeze billows in sheer curtains separating different areas in a large room. This is not your grandma's rose, and it's also not just for women. Unisex, fresh, fine, rose. Bright and clean white musk. Possibly peony and a hint of clean, dry vetiver. Benzoin assists in the drydown. Rose remains present throughout. It's quite beautiful. Projection starts as moderate, then fades to a bit more than a skin scent after 2-3 hours. Reminds me of Kashan Rose by the Different Company, but less sweet and a little more sultry. As lovely as it is, I would love it more on someone else who is not myself- just a personal preference. 8/10.

It's always nice to see a rose-dominant entry in a collection, and Fort & Manle's Harem Rose, their latest offering as of today, does not disappoint. It's mostly rose, as expected, and I get a subdued almost incense-like vibe with semi-powdery and woody elements in there, as well. I can mostly attribute this the cashmere and woods, I imagine. Additionally, there's some smooth, creamy sweetness from the amber and vanilla but it's relatively subtle. This is another agreeable, unisex, practically year-round-wearable entry from the Fort & Manle, but I'm not quite so moved by Harem Rose as there are many roses out there, and the pricing (230 AUD / 178 USD for 50ml) remains a bit of an obstacle when there are also more moderately-priced rose options. Definitely a "like" not a "love" at this point but a recommended try. 7 out of 10

A dry, unisex and dusty rose, just the kind I like. I wear Tom Ford Cafe Rose, Etro ManRose, Marni Rose, and Elizabeth and James Nirvana Rose, but this one takes the dry dusty rose concept in a new direction. Slightly medicinal with a sheen of Vicks Vapor Rub, this one is think outside of the rose box different. This is rose, but defiantly unisex as it leans toward bitter and not sweet at all. It's not sweet, it's not powdery, it's not green, it's not fresh, it's not dewy and it's not rosy, it's... it's own odd thing I guess you can say. Because it's so dusty it has a vintage old fashioned feel and very unique. If you love rose and want to add a new dimension to your collection, but all means give this a try. Everyone else, test first, this not your average floral rosy concoction.

A lovely white musk infiltrates this pink rose-dominated beginning. You still get green stem and buds that have yet to bloom. This is more delicate to me than this house's other rose dominated fragrance, Charlatan. Harem Rose evokes purity that will potentially be exploited and mature into what Charlatan is. Charlatan, the mature adult who has been there and done that, Harem Rose, the innocent about to lose their innocence. This develops nicely into a light woodiness, and i pick up what might be cedar, in young spring-time forest. I also get something akin to unripened fruit here in the middle. As lovely as this scent is, i couldn't see myself wanting to wear this more than wanting to smell it on someone else.

A Truly Regal and Beautiful Rose. This rose must have Damascene rose or have it in the rose blend.Damascene rose has almost a spicy nuance and a dry nature. That Damasc rose is my favorite rose and it is truly exotic and beautiful for me. I find the composition has almost a watery feel or steamed nature to the scent. It is a very nice rose, but not be as bright for the young nose or regal enough for the sophisticated. It is a rose that is vulgar and refined, perhaps like a harem. Soft projection, good silage and 4 to 7 hours longevity.

I have the old bottle of this, which I think has more character but I also bought sample of the new formulation from Luckyscent which is very pretty, too. I think there is more rose in my sample than in the og, but it's hard to tell from a dabber. They are both nice roses with some resins and a touch of incense; nothing here knocks my socks off but are eminently wearable. Honestly, I like my Boucheron Rose d'Isparta better and it's a lot less expensive on Jomashop.

I has 2 major phases: Opening which is sugary, turkish delight rose water like, and resembles a bit Oud Satin Mood by MFK, and the dry down is jammy, sort of like Rose D'arabie by Armani. Rose is definitely the most prominent accord here, but I do smell nuances of few other notes. I think its 70/30 feminine/masculine, I definitely enjoy it as a male and the ranking it gets is 8/10. Only downsides are the price per size and the moderate projection.

Pleasing powdery rose soliflore. The central rose note is first surrounded by some vanilla and vetiver and as the scent dries by some synthetic ambery musks, slight benzoin and cashmere wood. The supporting elements remain firmly in the background and the Turkish rose remains center stage throughout the wear. The slight feminine leaning scent has moderate projection and good longevity. A well done scent but not hugely exceptional. Enjoy!

This is one of the most beautiful fragrances from the house of Fort & Manle: a gorgeous floral that brings out rose in its more sultry aspects. This is not a fresh rose nor a romantic rose, but a sensual and smoky rose, with vetiver and cashmere woods buried within to bring out these darker qualities. (It is well named.) Harem Rose is also one of the best performers from F&M in that its sillage is very pronounced.

I wouldn't agree with all the previous comments. Yes, the rose note is here but the very strong vetiver note is here as well and this perfume is perfectly blended between these two notes which struggle with each other the whole life of the perfume. It also has some quality of a dense syrupy character and oriental style that I really like. This is one of a few rose perfumes that is appropriate to wear for men.

A feminine powdery and resinous rose. Honestly I don't quite like the name as I hate thinking of polygamy, but it did exist in the history and this is a vintage perfume trying to give the impression of a luxurious ancient Muslim palace with beautiful concubines of an emperor enjoying a rose garden. It is successful in that.

This smells exactly like the inside of a shop in Ibiza town called ‘Oliver Decoracion’ on Carre Pere Sala. The day someone verifies this, it will be a good day. Anyway, I love this. It’s very complex. If I’m ever lucky enough to get a full size bottle, I’ll give a complete review. It’s stunning.

Light pleasant rose and vetiver scent. There are other slight notes such as synthetic musk, amber, benzoin and cashmere wood. Overall this is a unisex scent that is suited for hot weather. The sillage, projection and longevity are moderate. Quite lovely but also not very exceptional. Enjoy!

Pleasant, yet unremarkable rose fragrance with average projection. Beautiful bottle. UPDATE: I’ve been enjoying this a lot more lately. It’s actually quite a unique rose composition. Slightly powdery. Soft. Creamy. It’s a pleasant departure from the fresh spicy rose I’m generally drawn to.

Harem Rose is a rich, spicy rose with also resins, musk, amber. It also has a hint of Band-Aid, so there may be some oud in it as well. Totally unisex.

I get a papery dry rose, like buds in potpourri. There’s a musty, almost sourness to it, but not in a bad way. Dark and dry- very interesting!

A nice, citrusy rose. However, this is so soft it's barely worth putting on IMO.

Opened with a strong dose of benzoin, with the rose tucked away within. That rose blossoms and becomes the dominant scent, with that resinous spice as an undertone. As it continues to wear, the rose becomes softer, slightly smoky and muskier. Had about 5-6 hours wear on a moderate spring day.

Huge meh for me. Artifical rose, powdery, granny-ish too.

Saffron rose water. I have sniffed this blend before, and many times. It has that saffron, spicy notes that blends in with Turkish roses which are known for their sweetness. It has that herbal and some woody background with cedar & incense, and i believe it's licorice & nutmeg. It's a cute blend indeed and from all the hype i thought it'll be something that never been sniffed before. I remember one instegramer, when i did stated that Fort & Manle's blends aren't that groundbreaking or something out of this world, he just gone slightly mad stating "This guy is one of the top perfumers and only certain people can understand these blends", i remember i replied, if few understands his perfumes then howcome almost every instegramer talks about this brand and how perfect it is! I still believe this brands takes indie unknown gems (masterpieces), remakes them, repackage them, and market them, that's all.

I just got this today and it is total love. I really adore oriental rose perfumes, but sometimes they can be a bit heavy on the spices, or have a dank undertone which puts me off. Many reviewers have said this is dry and dusty and I was a bit worried this would be a bit on the preserved or desiccated side of rose. But luckily this rose is not dried out or lacking vigour. It is a truly masterful rendition of rose and amber, smooth and full-bodied, and I also find it sweet and woody. There is nothing sour or sharp in this scent. It is a perfect blend of rose, spices, woods and amber that is as smooth and plush as velvet. One reviewer said it is like MFK oud satin mood, and I have to agree it is nearest out there, but they are still significantly different in that OSM has that incredible oud, whilst this has a superior rose (dare I say it?) I had to have both!

Edit: Bought a bottle using a coupon because I had purchased samples, and it finally arrived. I love this one so much. This is a soft, dusty, beautiful rose. There are hints of spice and woodiness, and is absolutely gorgeous. I don't feel, however, that is projects too much, which is just as well, since too powerful of a rose would end up giving me a headache. I'm waiting on the headache, and it's not happening. As it dries down, it turns a touch sweet and powdery, but it retains much of the spice and wood that makes this better than a simple soliflore rose. It's not a fruity and wet rose, which I am grateful for. There's a certain dryness to it that makes it more interesting to me. It's expensive, and I'm testing a sample, but I want this one.

veeery oriental. Super velvety puffy rose, with vanilla and benzoin. Not gourmand! on the same vibe as Oud Satin Mood by MFK, thats the closest cousing I would find. This is less powerful to my opinion and a bit more transformative, obviously theres no oud stated but it has a great texture from the benzoin and a touch of musk in the very end of drydown. Overall it is a super refined and natural red damasc rose, you'll get compliments ( I detect very few spices so thats a plus if you dont like them) theres nothing similar to La fille de berlin by Serge Lutens if you were wondering like me. I dont know how somebody finds it similar🤷🏻♂️

This scent evokes the scene of Romeo serenading Juliette at her balcony, its such a romantic artistic somewhat archaic scent. Its a rose bush in the evening, lush and aromatic its a deep full rose with woody undertones. The scent is not heavy and it is very wearable. A fantastic cool weather scent, classy and makes you smell of old money and since the fragrance does not throw it stays relatively close to skin, which is kind of what i appreciate in a scent like this. Do try this on skin, since after reformulations I dont know what the original formula smells like, i am merely commenting on the latest formula after the rebrand.

Beautiful. A soft, musky, dusty rose, under laid with a slight woody note and a touch of incense. It’s not your usual rose scent, not by a long shot. This is not a young, fresh rose – it’s a deeper, darker, more mysterious rose scent. I don’t picture red roses with this – I see fat, fully blown dusky pink roses in a beaten silver rose bowl. Got a compliment on this from a lady in the shop earlier today. Definitely full-bottle worthy.

عطر عادي على الاقل بالنسبة لي .. يفتتح برائحة عود حيوانية غريبة .. مقترنة برائحة باردة تشبه رائح الڤكس و قريبة من النعناع .. تكوين غريب الاحظ وجود بعض الزهور في القلب مثل الروز و الياسمين ذو طابع كلاسيكي نسائي عجائزي كذلك بعض التوتيات .. في القاعدة تختفي اغلب معالم العطر من العود و الرائحة الڤكسية كذلك الزهور ليبقى على سطحٍ باهتٍ و خفيف من رائحة الفانيليا اشبه بالككاو .. هل هذا فعلاً عطر ..!!

I’m conflicted on this one. I do love a good rose forward perfume but this straddles the line of ‘grandma fragrance’ for me. I grow roses in my garden and love an antique rose scent but this is rose water dialed up to ten (see: below comment on Turkish delight). Hm. Dry down is lovely though. Sensual.

OHHHHH YESSSS! I have found a rose fragrance I really like... POAL is the only one I thought I would ever like but this one is just as good, if only it was stronger and lasts longer, has the same vibe as POAL but not anywhere near as potent which is a shame. lovely sweet jammy rose--- 7.5/10

It’s full of body the rose shines as does some Amber it’s spicy a little dark not like your regular rose. Woody undertones. Definitely more masculine not a blind buy. Projection was average on me fades after a few hours. A lovely scent if your into a rose that is different.

Nothing moves me about this one. The rose itself isn't that great. There is an vanillic-amber wood something going on with some dark spice. I can pick up a smoky benzoin and some saffron. Overpriced.

A soliflore evening rose. The sun is setting but the garden is still blooming at this summer time. A wind breeze, a note of amber and balsams. A must have for rose lovers.

Pardon me for asking ... but are there notes missing from the pyramid? The promo blurb and reviewers mention citrus, woods and incense.

Good Lord it's beautiful. It is in the Delina realm but this is way better. Perfection.
