Eau de Hongrie

Interprétation médiévale. French Wikipedia for "parfum" says that : " Le premier alcoolat célèbre en Occident est l’Eau de la Reine de Hongrie (XIVe siècle), distillat à base de romarin et d’essence de térébenthine. Il s'agit encore d'un élixir, c'est-à-dire le médicament le plus précieux qu'on boit ou dont on se frictionne." It means that the first famous fragrance made with alcool in Europe is the Water of the Queen of Hungary (XIVth century), made with rosemary and terebenthin. It's an elixir, i e the most expensive medicine you drink or you put on your skin". On his site Fragonard says : "L’eau de Hongrie est une formule du XIVè siècle qui accorde de doux accents de bergamote et de jasmin, sur un fond chaleureux d’ambre et de ciste. Authentique et intemporelle, son élégante sobriété ne peut que séduire" which means in English : "Eau de Hongrie is a 14th-century composition of soft bergamot and jasmine notes on a warm background of amber and cistus. Authentic, timeless and elegantly sober, it never fails to charm." There's quite a difference between Wikipedia and Fragonard, but i can't say more. **** Senteur 8.5/10 C'est une petite merveille assez difficilement portable. Je l'aime par temps de pluie de jour moyennement frais (15°c - 20°c), en automne ou au printemps, donc. Il y a un équilibre parfait dans ce parfum et un air de revenez-y... mais encore une fois ce parfum ne convient pas à un temps ensoleillé à mon sens. Longévité 2/2 C'est un parfum de jour, et sa longévité est totalement acceptable pour laisser sa place à un autre parfum pour le soir. Sillage 2/2 Réel sans être trop fort, ce qui en fait un excellent "parfum de bureau". Mais il convient mieux en extérieur. Masculinité 2/2 Dégage une virilité totalement acceptable pour le jour ! Evolution 2.5/4 Tend plutôt à s'affadir au fil des heures, mais finalement c'est plutôt un reproche acceptable pour ce type de parfum ! Total 17/20

A classic fragrance for work or a fancy occasion; interesting but inoffensive enough to potentially be a signature scent for many. Fougeres have the reputation of an older man's fragrance, but the prominent and refreshing white florals in this one almost bring it into unisex territory. However, the pepperiness of the labdanum and slight astringency of the cedar give it a definite masculine feel, in my opinion. Hardly any sillage, but the dry-down is alluring and has good longevity.

Well this is lovely. It is a man's scent they say, but it's so lovely I got away with it. Fresh, spicy citrus/woods, like all of Fragonard's scents it's perfectly balanced and excellent quality. It will be heaven to wear it in summer. Why this isn't more widely known and worn, I have no idea. I like it so much that I want a bottle, and boo to the idea that only men get to wear it! :)

Spicy citrus green. I can immediately see the Aspen and GIT comparisons...very refreshing spring scent. Natural, soft, easy to wear like most Fragonards. Possibly a love? Scent: 8 / Sillage: 7 / Longevity: 7

I just love this scent. Fresh, watery and delicate. Deep and somewhat serious. High class scent.

I just checked out a new fragrance by Viktoria Minya that was launched few days ago called Eau de Hongrie. It's not a reproduction of the original perfume but a new modern interpretation by Viktoria who is the Hungarian Perfumer. I love the smell, way more than Fragonard's, even though they are not comparable since they are different interpretation with the same name. And of course, Fragonard's version is a bulk production while Viktoria's is in the niche section...

I was never too impressed by this one. Yes, it has its elegance, but that doesn't mean it suits anybody. To me it appears like a peasant in an expensive suit who still looks like a peasant because he can't deny his identity. Such a person would perhaps choose this one, but certainly not a gentleman. **

This smells generic, and like Green Irish Tweed, but way cheaper. Aromatic fragrance with an ozonic twist. I dont like it.

Smells basic and underwhelming, kind of like some sort of cheap perfume for teenagers. I have the discovery box of five EDTs, and I'm not impressed. They smell very similar, and if this is what they chose to showcase the brand, I'm not going back for more.

I have got it as a solid perfume in a tiny round box-smal Xmas gift from a friend who has just returned from Europe. In a hot australian weather it is so refreshing, particularly applied so authentically-finger rubbed in a jar and tapped on my skin. I have only realised later it is a men's scent-it is so delicately refreshing, in a simple non-intrusive way. It smells clean and crisp, and calls for a crisp casual white shirt, minimal make-up...And hey, i feel like I am back in Europe myself.Apparently it translates as Water from Hungary, but i can't figure out why. Hungary is associated with spices to me. Can anyone tell me?

An Old school Fougere reinterpreted for modern times. Fresh, natural, packed with natural bergamot, jasmine, and oakmoss. The dry down is smoky, leathery, and herbally delicious. An instant love.
