Murmure

I have the pure parfum version and it is almost a duplicate of first generation YSL Opium (late 70s to late 80s) parfum. Opium was one of my first signatures and though it's been reformulated to something mediocre at best for over a decade I've never stopped loving the vintage, edt and parfum. I have a massive hoard and wear it regularly all year. I bought Murmure because it was a good price and I love extraits, but I had no idea what the notes were so when I removed the rubber stopper and the familiar Opium aroma wafted towards me I did a double take. Applying a few dabs and wearing it was so much like wearing Opium extrait I had to go do a side by side, expecting the differences to become apparent. Nope. Parfums de Coeur Ninja parfum was very similar to Opium edt way back when, but when worn next to one another they were like cousins..Murmure and vintage Opium extrait are almost scent twins - and that is fine by me. Opium won longevity by more than an hour, but both hung around for over 7 hours.

wow this is awesome!! a vintage seductive unisex powerhouse of a perfume. animalic and very spicy but sweet. I get some aldehydes for a bit of freshness but sweetened by honey, amber and cinnamon. there is something bitter too - maybe angelica. i don't get any similarity with the vintage opium which i dislike. same feel about those fragrances for sure..but they is pretty much distinct difference. I only have a mini bottle of this with a dabber and it says 'parfum' which i believe coz a only literally dabbed one drop on my skin and it radiates like crazy. strong stuff and i love it. very sexy as hell 🔥 ps: i got this tiny precious bottle 25years ago from my grandmother to my 15th birthday and i didn't care for it back than at all. now i rediscovered it and realized what a gem it is and that it aged beautifully since then and turned even sweeter and stronger now. love at first sniff 💘

Un parfum magnifique, un oriental enveloppant pour la saison froide, qui irradie, à la fois sophistiqué et divinement agréable à porter. La note piment qui lui donne un côté poivré le rend totalement irrésistible pour moi. J'ai l'impression qu'il me rend plus femme, séduisante, de plus il attire les compliments. Sa tenue est excellente. Malheureusement il est discontinué, il n'apparaît plus sur le site de la marque, j'en suis extrêmement déçue. Un parfum de cette qualité à ce prix, c'était trop beau! Il est sublime et je le regretterai beaucoup quand j'aurai terminé mon flacon.

I had Murmure in the parfum solide version, and it was the first scent I smelled that made me realize that I can like perfume, after all. It doesn't have to be nasty, pointy and synthetic, like almost all perfumes (to my nose). Murmure made me happy! It was a fascinating, intriguing scent. I remember spice, wood, musk, rose, and perhaps a citrusy overtone. Then I lost the tiny tub. Woe of woes! And it's been discontinued. So I am researching potential replacements like a maniac.

Fragonard is listing Murmure as a "new scent" on their website, but the Fragrantica listing says it was launched "in the 2000's." I have a sample from the "new" re-issue. The Fragrantica page has the notes as: spices, floral, and pink pepper, whereas these are the notes shown on the packaging of my new sample: Top notes: Italian Bergamot, Basil Essential Oil, Ylang Ylang Middle notes: Angelica, Muguet, Rose Base notes: Musk, Guaiac Wood, Vanilla Fragonard does not mention pink pepper or spices like cinnamon or clove. So I'm not sure if the fragrance has been tweaked for the re-launch? Here's what I smell from my EDT sample. Mmmm what wonderful spiciness at the very beginning, along with the bergamot. It indeed smells peppery even though the notes on the package don't mention it. The ylang ylang also really pops as a top note. Those fade off pretty quickly and I get a twinge of something animalic and ever so slightly masculine, which must be the musk. It's kind of refreshing to smell a more animalic musk versus the soft white musk in most perfumes. If you can find the EDP or Parfum instead of the EDT, I highly recommend! A fragrance of this complexity is best enjoyed and worn in the higher concentrations. I can't stop smelling this sample I got! It just keeps getting better. I like ViouAmara's review where she said this will get you noticed - I think that's true. Whatever base notes they're using make it a very SEXY scent. Great for nighttime and seduction. Sensuously animalistic in the best possible way. Imagine the way the way your lover's natural skin smells in the morning. Someone you have a pheromonic attraction to and love the way they smell no matter if they've showered or not...ROAR baby. I haven't smelled Opium in years, so I can't speak to theladymay's review saying Murmure is a twin for _vintage_ Opium...but if it is, that's pretty cool because I know some of the Opium lovers from back in the day might be disappointed in the newer productions.

Murmure is spicy and powdery at the same time, an unusual combination. I have the pure perfume from a set of miniatures of unknown vintage, and just purchased a bottle (gold) at a surreal price. Fragonard is a go-to perfumer for me when I want something more than I can afford, I can go to Fragonard and find something I like. I have most of their perfumes as I have been doing something like this for years. I also like them a lot because they are all natural, and they produce most if not all of their own oils. I also understand from another reviewer here that they are a compounder, so all of the talk about they're being dupes has got it the wrong way round. I am not sure I can compare this to any other perfume, distinctly but it has the same feeling as some of the old Hermes, and also some of the older Caron's.... must be the spice. It is not an overwhelming spice, like Spice Bomb. I love spicy perfumes but hate spice bomb. I also have difficulty with certain synthetics, like ambroxin which smells really foul on my skin, and is in so so may things :( I have never had that experience with a Fragonard perfume. This seems to be evolving more than most Fragonards. It is a light spicy amber, very wearable, even as a daytime scent. After all, I am wearing it in the tropics, which is, granted, somewhat less than ideal, but it is where I live. As to notes I can note distinguish much at present but spice, I think nutmeg more than cinnamon or clove, but I could be wrong. I can not speak to the new formulation at all. I have a couple of old minis and a large (gold) bottle on the way. I will likely revisit this review when I can add more detail. For now I can and will say that if you find an old bottle at a good price it is worth picking up, at least if you like spice.

Reviewers, please don't continue to confuse Murmure and Murmure (2020). I have the earlier version, Murmure and it's a spice bomb! I immediately got cloves and cinnamon with a little bit of sweet amber on a slight patchouli base but nothing floral or fruity. It is reminiscent of Cinnabar though for me much more wearable because it lacks the over amplification of Cinnabar's clove/carnation combo. The only resemblance with Opium are the initial spices used and it lacks Opium's wonderful complexity of notes. Fragrantica's description is extremely vague about the actual notes. I have absolutely no clue what "pimento" smells like and the icon notes replace it with "pink pepper" to the site appears confused as well. This is an easily wearable spicy scent.

One of the strangest scents I have ever encountered. The spices are dominant but not in the way one is accustomed to experiencing the usual "Spicy-Oriental". There is something almost animalistic about these spices, something wild and inexplicable. I must confess I have not been able to bring myself to wear this for an evening out or any other special occasion but I do, from time to time, get it out of the cupboard and dab on a bit when I'm not going anywhere. And, I still can't decide whether I like it or not. I have a lot of Fragonard perfume so feel I must keep this in the collection -- for reference.

This beauty makes a comeback on the brand website. The edge, warm, dark spicy feminine, is like a sunbeam in a boring and faded landscape. If you want to get noticed, you’ve found your holy grail.

It smells very spicy and somehow reminds me of Opium by YSL.it has a little retro touch also.It doesnt smell good though

This review is kind of a moot point because apparently they've stopped producing Murmure. That said, I love Fragonard, and this is one of my most-used of the sampler I bought a few years ago, so it's worth the review in memoriam. I agree with a review stating that it's both "spicy and powdery," which is a combination I can't say I love off the bat. Whenever I use this I end up asking myself if I'm in some sort of a loop where I think I like it because I've clearly been using it a lot based on the amount in the bottle, spray it, but then actually hate it, rinse-repeat. Then the dust clears, and it both loses a lot of the powderiness and settles into an incensy floral that's a little more typical of Fragonard's offerings - modern, sensual, but not heavy. That said, this still isn't what I like about the perfume. The point where I can't stop sniffing it comes after it's worn off, or even after I run water over my wrists. I discovered this by accident when I washed my hands but didn't soap up my wrists because I didn't want to remove it. It became super light and enchanting, totally different than what it starts with. So, RIP. I bought a sampler of this before prices skyrocketed and might get another.

I am so disappointed because the original Murmure is a spicy fragrance, similar to Opium and Youth Dew, while the 2020 version found on the Fragonard site has different notes. They are selling the 120 ml of perfume (not EDT or EDP) for 49,50 euro but the notes are completely different. The description from the brand site: "Invigorating top notes of Italian bergamot and essence of basil and ylang-ylang, caressed by an angelic heart of lily-of-the-valley, languish on a base of musk, guaiac wood and vanilla. This perfume comes in a pretty golden aluminum bottle. We stop the manufacture of this product, when stocks run out it will no longer be available!"

E' un profumo caldo, adatto alle giornate di inverno. Non è mai pesante o eccessivo e si può usare sia di giorno che di notte.
