Rose de Mai

Just received my bottle and I’m pleasantly surprised. I purchased this off Amazon because of Notes by Josephine on YouTube. She describes this as a fresh and powdery clean rose and I was convinced. So to my nose this is slightly fresh, slightly jammy, slightly citrusy, slightly green rose. It immediately reminded me of a fresher and less jammy take on Hermetica Rosefire. Perhaps if Chloe and Rosefire Mixed together it would become Rose De Mai. The most prominent notes to me are the rose, lily of the valley (Clean/green), cassis (jammy fruityness), and a bit of violet (powdery). The rest of the notes are blended well in the background. This is linear yet very pleasant. Projection is actually quite good the first hour in Florida heat. It then settles to medium projection and longevity. Wonderful for all year round actually but super nice in the Spring. Could be a nice work scent too! Lovely fragrance! I’m glad I have my bottle!

This is the happiest scent I own. The rose notes are very fresh and vibrant, complex, not too intense or overpowering, but actually like a bouquet of different colors and varieties of roses. In my opinion, this perfume is effervescent, suggesting of a fragrant glass of champagne, it is just sparkly. The longevity is very ok in my experience, the initial projection is fantastic (though not aggressive) and it lingers pleasantly both on skin and on clothes. The ylang ylang and cassis are still there, never divorced from the rose notes. I usually get compliments for this scent, it gives me a smile to put it on, plus I get the additional comfort of it being sufficiently singular from other market perfumes.

I love this! My husband bought it blind for me knowing I love roses and Fragonard. This is a great rose scent. It's complex enough not to feel flat, but simple enough to not feel muddy or confused about what it's trying to say. Does not go powdery on me, hallelujah. It's romantic, and old fashioned in a Marie Antoinette shepherdess way. It's coquettish and happy, fresh and dewy.

Beautiful rose perfume. No, not like that. It's a ROSE perfume. Everything else in it is there to make the rose sing. It's a a live rose on the bush, rather than a dried up powdery cosmetic rose. Absolutely gorgeous, everything you might want form a soliflore rose scent.

The opening of Fragonard Rose de Mai has a somewhat old-fashioned vibe, like a few other Fragonard offerings. It's an intense green melange of lily of the valley, cassis and ylang ylang, while rose seems to be lost within. A few minutes later, the scent calms down, and a green yet sweet rose gradually emerges. The rose here gives off a fresh, crisp vibe, but it doesn't feel dewy to me, more like dried rose petals paired with green leaves. The green aspect can sometimes be quite intense and sharp. But eventually it veers into the background, while the scent dries down into a silky rose with tart fruity edge. In the late drydown, it's a honey-tinged rose skin scent. The sillage is moderate to close and the longevity around 9 hours. To me, Rose de Mai is not a photorealistic rose. I'd recommend it as a rose soliflore with a retro vibe.

I just opened new sample of Rose de Mai. It's supposed to be different, they even changed the bottle. Well, it is, but not alarmingly so. Head notes: Italian bergamot, blackcurrant, violet Heart notes: Bulgarian rose, Centifolia rose from Grasse, Turkish rose Bottom notes: Virginian cedarwood, amber, musk It feels denser, full bodied. Noticeably more rose, as it should be, given the name. Less fruity, musky, less cosmetic. More concentrated, herbal and aromatic. I truly enjoy roses and this is a glorious perfume all about roses. It appears simple because it's harmonious, traditional, very French. It screams quality. Delightful discovery. Longevity is also improved. I can't wait to put my hands on body care.

I enjoy trying everything Fragonard does. Even those I don't like, because quality is always there. This rose opens with an aromatic kick of black current and with time softens to a traditional cosmetic blend of rose with violet and ylang. I didn't notice other notes as much, just this backgound cloud of fluffiness. It's lovely, especially the drydown. Stays close to skin and longer than I expected. It would be an easy reach for someone who enjoys roses. Simple and undemanding but not without interest.

Fruity rose. And I can’t tell what kind of fruit is this. I’d say this is fruity aspect of a rose enhanced several times. Rose is fresh without heavy Bulgarian undertones, but sometimes spicy-medicinal notes also appear for a second. Long lasting. Base notes sound more like shampoo rose. For those who love soliflore perfumes this is interesting and unusual rose.

Soft, natural, easy to wear Rose with some white florals and ylang ylang in the base. Very pleasant and easy to wear spring scent for a woman. Not for me as a guy tho. Not sure it's very innovative or creative, but the high quality and fine blending is there. Very nice classic French perfumery. Scent: 7.5 / Sillage: 7.5 / Longevity: 7

This reminds me a lot of Paul Smith Rose in the opening but then develops more gardenia and deeper greener notes which I like very much. Overall I’m pleased with this purchase. After testing I wish this had more sillage and longevity.

This is a nice, light and simple rose fragrance, inoffensive and perfectly wearable even in the hottest summer day. Keeps close to the skin and stays there easily for up to 4+ hours. Overall, good price to quality/amount ratio.

Much lighter, and fresher than something I'd usually wear. The scent is essentially rose with a few supporting notes. I don't wear it very often, but on the rare occasion when I want a fresh scent it's my go to.

Petit parfum très doux de rose... je le porte très rarement. C'était plus pour penser à mon arrière grand-mère.

There is little else to complement roses, so you are either a fan or not. Great natural experience.

Smells very intensely pink and feminine.

Tried the towelette sample included with a brochure from Fragonard and while it smells nice at first it dried down in a matter of minutes to just a light soapy skin scent as if I had just washed with a rose soap. Maybe I need to try from a spray bottle instead but not sure I want to invest in something that might behave the same way as the towelette.

I think I get more cassis and grassiness than anything else, including rose.

I agree with all previous posters; this is a very lovely rose! At first I was worried, as it comes out of the bottle smelling like guest bath soap. Oh oh. But give it a half hour and the oily ylang ylang shows up, taking it out of hte bathroom and putting it into the boudoir. I also like the black current addition- this is one of my favorite fruit notes as its fresh without being to bitter. This is one of the few fragrances I would feel comfortable gifting to someone.

Hi! I bought this perfume years ago, tough it was a nice eau de toilette to spray all over. Very affordable price and good ratio price quality. It's a bit intoxicating and cheepish to my taste, I don't find it fresh, it's like a common floral rosy scent. I prefer more the Confidentiel Après Tout from Fragonard which they don't make anymore. That's a real rose!

At first impression: fresh bouquet of roses and lovely violets. I find with time that rose becomes more and more metallicy on me and turns sour. It does have that potential of being pleasant jasmine/violets with rose accent on a right chemistry. Moderate in strength. It's worth a try for rose-violet fans. This might as well be your favorite spring floral:)

Recently bought Rose de Mai as part of a set of miniatures at the Fragonard site. Lovely roses fragrance with just a hint of violets lily of the valley slightly sweet very natural roses bouquet. Very lovely & nice for a may/june wedding perfume.Wonderful feminine floral. One for the buy again list.

Received this as a gift from an ex boyfriend's grandmother. I want to love it as I so love rose and I so love Fragonard, however it smells dusty and old to me. Like someone's dead grandmother's bathroom, with her perfumes sitting under weeks worth of dust. Smells...like sun faded pink.

a friend went to Paris and brought back some perfume sachets for me and one of it is Fragonard Rose De Mai. To my nose, it's one of the best rose perfume. After 7 hours, my friend can still smell this on me. Lovely!

Lovely fresh and tenacious rose with light berry notes, not cloying or powdery at all. Pleasant for everyday use, it makes me feel clean, feminine and fit in any place.

The perfume alone reminds me of the Mama Mary image at a catholic church, or rose water sprays. On my skin, it transforms into a bouquet of sweet flowers. Magical!

It`s summer, the sun is shining, your hair newly washed , you splash on Rose de Mai and dance out to enjoy life and a perfect day. Lovely, fresh yet floral scent.

Sharp green photorealistic rose, a little bit retro because of the ylang, but just enough to be interesting and not watered down or tea-like.

I love this rose very much, because it's so spontaneous fresh and vivid, like a real fresh rose.

Pure rose scent, smells very soapy and clean. Can be overpowering if sprayed too much.

The correct notes are rose, blackcurrant leaves, lily of the valley and ylang ylang.

Very sweet watery rose and was pleasantly surprised but the longevity was poor.
