My son brought this fragrance back from France as a gift for me. His teacher said, "he sniffed every single perfume in Fragonard until he decided on Soleil." He said, "it smelled the most like me"...and it does! It just works perfectly with my chemistry the dry down is a soft-clean-floral scent with light hints of orange blossom, jasmine, rose and violet. I always get compliments! He was told, "that the perfumers use almost all of the flowers grown in Southern France in this fragrance." I adore it! *Note --- that each batch seems to have it's own unique base fragrance. One bottle I received has a very heady violet fragrance with a beautiful mix of all types of florals! I can tell it apart from my other bottles right away. Another bottle has an overpowering old lady type perfume scent. (Thankfully only 1 bottle has been that way.) I mix it with a vanilla fragrance to tone it down and it's nice. I have a bottle of Chanel #5 like this that I can't even mix with any of my fragrances to get it to work on me and I typically like Chanel #5. I have a new large bottle in my collection right now. I have found that this perfume smells the very best from a fresh batch. I'm not sure why...other than the types of flowers and the weather may play a big part in the end scent. I have about 10 bottles that I've received through the years...since the late 90's, and 4 or 5 are completely empty that are still very lovely sitting with my fragrance collection. Soleil performs best in warmer weather. I bought the fragrance last winter and wore it a few times on the chilly days, but I've sprayed it generously this spring. I've worn it all day today and the fragrance has tremendous sillage and persistence in the approximately 80 degrees F (27 C) that we had today--very sunny and with a gentle breeze that kept lifting this gorgeous and happy aroma to my nose all day. I admit, I do wear Soleil in cold weather just for its beautiful and sunny disposition. It's an enjoyable reminder of good times and pleasant climates, even if it does't fully "bloom" in the colder weather. Soleil is a beautiful, cheerful jasmine and orange blossom "white floral" scent on my skin, in any season. It is not too sweet and dries down over time to a pleasant woody musk that fully expresses itself when warm temperatures and your body heat disperse it to best effect. Fragonard gets tremendous credit from me for creating and so aptly naming a fragrance! It truly smells "sunny" and creates the perfect mood for its name and fragrance, regardless of the season in which it is worn. Soleil's sillage is best expressed with a little warmth (both personal and atmospheric), but it's highly effective at creating a sunny aura even on the coldest grey day in January, and it persists very well in any season. Bravo!

The sun cap is so fitting for this fragrance. A beautiful, mixed bouquet of flowers that has a bright sunny element to it. The jasmine, orange blossom and lily really shine here, but the wisteria is the showstopper with its lightly sweet and spicy, dewy lilac and tuberose undertones. It's so beautiful. I really wish more fragrances would use that note. I can only pick up the rose as the fragrance progresses, as the same is true of the musk and iris. On me the iris and musk don't add much powder, at least compared to other powdery scents I wear, but they do give this fragrance a gentle softness which rounds out the edges while the amber and sandalwood contribute to that softness with a creamy, lotiony element that feels very lux. Since it's Fragonard, there is nothing synthetic, cheap smelling, or sharp here, though I did find this one disappears off the skin rather fast compared to others I use from this brand. Still, it gives at least a good 4 hours of wear on a sunny spring or summer day, which from my experience is the best time to wear this fragrance as it really projects then. Right now, in the cold, not so much, though I'm willing to overlook some minor issues because it is so pretty. Besides, Fragonard makes it affordable to respray with their very reasonable prices.

Long before I became borderline obsessed with fragrance, when I was about 16, my mother brought me a small bottle of Soleil back from a trip to France. It’s Fragonard, so of course, this is a masterfully blended composition true to what you expect from such a classic French perfume house. I had long forgotten this scent, until one day I was deep into a frgrantica rabbit hole, and saw this unforgettable bottle. Triggered my olfactory memory bank and I immediately found one on eBay. I was in heaven when I got my little dabbed bottle and it was as sublime of an experience, as it was in my memory. Now I need a big bottle. If you’re looking for a classic white solar floral fragrance, give this beauty a try.

I've finally found the perfect floral fragrance. This is so exquisite, so natural-smelling, just like being in a beautiful garden full of blooming shrubs and blossom, with a warm breeze wafting the scent to your nose in fleeting moments, so that you just want to inhale deeply to take in as much as you can. There is nothing cloying, sickly or spicy about this, just fresh blooms floating on a warm summer breeze. I'm so glad I found Fragonard, after years of looking for a fragrance that stays fresh on me and doesn't go 'stale' in the drydown. Fragonard must have a secret. Even if you're not a 'floral' person, they make many beautiful scents of all types.

Lovely, opens and smells similar to Terracotta by Guerlain. Dries down on me to be more of a jasmine scent. Reminds me of the yellow Gucci Bloom flanker, only less screechy/bug spray-like. Smells like a pure realistic floral scent. No vintage notes, spices or woods. Feels fresh, flowery, a touch soapy. Ageless and timeless scent. I'm reviewing a vintage partial bottle and it still smells great. I personally have a few perfumes that smell like this, but I like this one more, so I will be replacing redundant scents with this one. The quality is excellent.

Sweet and very strong in a parfum way. This could really be a parfum/extract; I have miniature dabber and just a few little dab is enough to others smell it. It's such a lovely smell, I like it a lot and would like to have a big bottle, but if it's spray, I think one should be careful and not to spray too much, or it could be too strong. Very nice floral scent.

A really beautiful scent; I loved it from the first sniff. Jasmine, orange flower and wisteria, a touch of rose, on a faint pillow of sandalwood and amber. The jasmine's gorgeous; the wisteria makes it just slightly herby, slightly spicy, lifting the whole scent. It's well-named, a happy, sunny scent. I love it.

Even a wonderfull scent. It is classic but modern too. Very well balanced. My bottle is 6 years old and there is no changing about the quality. Real great and nice, natural ingridients. Fragonard is not mainstream. This is real quality, scents with soul. I love these french craft of parfumerie.

Mmmmmm...a beautiful sparkling white floral opening. It's sunshine in a bottle. It's mostly about the white flowers but the wisteria adds an interesting twist. A real shame it is no more.

Glorious sunny day at the beach couture! This is what suntan lotion wants to be. Heady n classically sweet it's a mood lifter for sure. Movie star dreamy!

Powdery and fresh! This is great to wear after a shower & before bed. The fresh soapiness makes you feel cozy and clean.

I have had this for over a year now and it’s my go to summer scent . On my skin, it’s very , green , sheer and light . So much so that I can’t really differentiate which notes are present . This could be that it’s very well blended . Not sure that Soleil by Fragonard is a fruity floral mentioned in the description . 🤷♀️ Must be a mistake cause I don’t get any fruit, nor is it powdery for me . And I’m glad the amber notes aren’t pronounced in this perfume . ( not a fan ). It’s very pretty , linear and inoffensive but I do feel it’s quite a generic scent, not worthy of being a signature scent but appreciated as a scent you have in your collection as the first option for a summer day out or a beach scent . And of course the bottle is so unique ! Despite all that , it’s a wonderful , white floral safe blind buy .

To the reviewers below, this is readily available on the Fragonard website. Have rumors of its demise been greatly exaggerated? I smell salty amber and white flowers billowing over a bed of warm sandalwood. In turn, I can smell orange blossom, rose, and wisteria. I don't really pick up the iris. I also don't get soap, but I do strongly sense the presence of musk which may read as soap depending on your chemistry or nose. On the drydown, I get lots of powdery vanilla, so much so that it reminds me of one of those classic vanillas from the 90s which is... apt. It's pleasant, sunny, airy, and appropriately named. A nice introductory white flower fragrance for gourmand fans.

I think I would call this Anais Anais derivative and Lite. And I prefer Soleil. I smell a blend of tuberose and hyacinth even tough the notes are not listed here. Update: 03/19/2025: I sprayed this again today, and I am liking more. I think I get wisteria this time around. It’s beautiful.

arrived instead of grain de soleil but we ball. vintagey white floral. there’s a certain sweetness that hides under the wisteria that i like. usually wouldn’t find myself liking a floral like this but it has something to it. i imagine wearing this after a good shower on a sunny porch.

Une "Joie de Vivre"... Comme toutes les Fragonard ici ce sent tres bien la vieille ecole francais mais pas comme "old" ci comme une grande Qualite. C'est un parfum pleine de vitalite, du ...Soleil = jasmine+rose vert+iris. Une grande qualite d'ingredients utilise. Duree - 4-6 heures.

Summery floral: jasmine pronounced with wisteria, orange blossom for a nice clean feel and soft musk. Reminiscent of beach and sun. Excellent choice for warm weather all occasions., especially for anything that has to do with the beach. Pretty good silage wise, on me 6 hours.

Orange blossom is the star here. I get some coffee-like accord as well, and is there freesia in this? It's not listed here or on the Fragonard website but I smell it (mine is an older bottle). This is a good wear for sunny, warm (not hot, because it's strong) summer days.

Certainly a happy fragrance. I like it well enough considering I don't usually find jamine agreeable if it's a primary note. The iris is front and center too. The other floral notes keep either from being too intense. I don't find it has very good staying power though.

Nice well done flowery scent. But nothing special. I have their Dahlia and Lune de Miel, they are more interesting and unusual.

Soapy and flowery. Elegant, for mature women. Warm and bright, as the sun. Too classic for me but nice.

A cheerful summer day soaked with the promises of sun...yet as ephemeral as light, as is this scent. It is mild and airy, like fresh linen or subtle vanillic or creamy tuberose, and not the Roi de Soleil I had hoped for but rather a sun beam flickering and absorbed a few hours after the golden jasmine and citrus blossoms emerged The bottle is unique and pretty and of course, reminiscent of a sun. It is a great light spring and summer option but I was dissatisfied with its impact and longevity or even distinct notes, though they are fresh, powdery, and very soft and clean. As this is the case, it is very faint, close, and intimate as sunbeams are so perhaps indeed it lives up to its name. I will not repurchase but it is a safe and easy daily perfume and pleasant enough for all occasions yet understated, a warm caress on a breezy afternoon

Heavy white floral that smells a bit dated and soap-like.

This is a very classy fragrance. Unfortunately for me, the freesia in it has way too much of an upper bite for me to truly appreciate it the way it's meant to be.

Most of all I feel the wisteria note in this fragrance. It smells vintage enough. I'm not impressed.

Fragrance Review For Soleil By Fragonard Notes: Jasmine Rose Iris Lily Wisteria Orange Blossom Amber Musk Sandalwood Soleil with the solar shaped stopper. I'm a sucker for a good looking artistically designed bottle. This is a beautiful objet d'art in any perfume bottle collectors' wardrobe. I'm pleased to discover that this is an old fashioned soapy floral scent. It has a classic vintage air although I can't quite put my finger on what fragrance it reminds me of. I found it interesting that it lacks fruit notes, aldehydes and neroli. The opening is rather strong and immediately flowery with an orange blossom. The orange in the blossom perhaps serves as the fruit scent but it's not terribly fruity and it dissipates quickly. The orange blossom introduces the other flowers in this bouquet: rose, iris, jasmine, lily and wisteria. The rose and iris pairing is always well-matched. Both are similar in perfumery and become powdery or soapy; in this case soapy. This is like a pretty rose soap but there's more to it than that. It evokes a feeling of calmness, like a motherly touch at the home. There are flower vases, floral scented soap and floral scented candles everywhere. This was like the interior of a queen's chamber in the palace of Versailles in the 1700's. This is very pretty. The dry down contains base notes (they would have been base notes had there been a top middle and base note structure) of musk sandalwood and amber. The musk is not too strong and here the sandalwood and amber are the big players. The amber gives it that clean finish. This is really easy to wear and innocent. It's a sweet scent of fleeting flowers, a breath of fresh floral air, a breeze coming through an open window overlooking a garden.

Soleil Fragonard Nose Jean Guichard Year 1997 Fragonard's most beautiful modern floral. I have an old bottle of this perfume in my closet. It came in a charming artistically designed bottle with the sun motif. One can still purchase it online through sellers on Amazon.com and eBay. It's worth even a blind buy. Soleil is a solar fragrance of sun-kissed orange blossom, citrusy florals, and amber. It's such a gorgeous scent and it whisks me away to a beautiful French provincial garden in the middle of the day beneath a warm summer sun. The first note that it opens with is a citrus courtesy of orange blossom. Total orange blossom, a favorite note of mine. It's on the floral side with a bouquet of lilies, roses, jasmines, iris and wisteria. These are powdery florals, especially because of the iris note that keeps it in the starchy-powdery mode. Sure it's a mature scent in that it does not smell like anything from today's perfumers. It's straight up French perfume. The dry notes consist of amber tree, animal musk, and heady sandalwood. These notes are more on the Oriental side to me. The amber plus sandalwood combination really come through. As such, the fragrance is warmer, cozier, more comfortable than a regular floral which might become too powdery or sweet. Instead it turns unisex and animalic with a woodsy touch. This is just one of those great perfumes that even if the longevity and sillage is not that great the scent itself is clearly well-made and enjoyable. I recommend this fragrance for fans of florals and ambers. This is also suited to autumn and winter when the musk and amber keep it in a very pleasant warmth on your skin. It's formal and elegant, stylish, European, regal. Absolutely beautiful.

My favorite perfume of all time and signature scent. A sweet boyfriend bought this for me on a trip to France when I was 16, after visiting the Fragonard factory in Grasse. Somehow it perfectly suited me then (even though it isn't a light/flirty floral that you'd expect a young person to wear), suits me almost 20 years later, and will suit me in another 20 years. It's one for the ages. Something about it always makes me feel like a Serious Person when I put it on - not un-fun or anything, just like someone who knows what they're doing. Everyone always asks me what it is. The best way I can describe this scent is as a vintage floral perfume in its heyday (that is, before we began to associate the perfume with the term "vintage"; think Chanel No. 5 the way people probably perceived it in 1925). The "vintage" element might even stem from the fact that Soleil is incredibly well-done where many modern perfumes at this price point and using these white floral notes are not; those cheap notes can give them away as being a newer creation. Fragonard never misses in terms of quality. This one is obviously no exception; there isn't a single harsh, chemical note to be found, and the worst I can say about it overall is that it might be considered slightly soapy to some. As my body chemistry has changed that note has augmented a bit, but not so much that I don't still love it.

Smells almost exactly like juicy couture but very white gardenia like, sharp pollen to the 1st sniff. Which i sprayed each on a different hand. Juicy couture is stronger & has a more rose lilac or gardenia. Maybe tuberose smell, soleil isn't as bouncy more like im walking through a sandy area & its blowing warm sand past me without the rose but both smell almost identical if you did a blind test of each side to side. My bf said they both smell the same kinda grandma smelling. But...we are 10yrs apart & my grandma wore wind song so. That one is the most grandma smelling to me. Drydown soleil is smelling now like I did a dry sand scrub of bronze sun onto my hands. Couture is still wet & way floral. I just sold my bottle of soleil, so hopefully she loves it.

While Grain de Soleil is a vanilla bomb, Soleil itself is pure floral in its opening notes. I get a hint all of the flowers with the white flowers dominating, but honestly I don't detect the rose at all. Amber is there in the background, but I don't get sandalwood, this perfume is all sweetness to me. Even after drydown I get a pure floral - it's like a white flower garden at dusk. I love the pretty bottle with it's golden sun top, the name and the bottle suggest summer sunshine but for me this is a summer evening scent. Something to wear while you sit on the terrace at dusk enjoying a breath of air after the summer heat, while the jasmine petals and the lilies in the garden close up to release their evening perfume.

Soleil Overall: 5/10 Projection: 5/10 Longevity: 6/10 Sillage: 5/10 Comments: Soleil is a tough perfume for me to rate. For some reason, upon application I can smell one of the notes going sour. I'm not sure if it's the wisteria or the freesia but unfortunately that keeps happening. Another disappointment is that Fragonard does not sell samples of the Soleil Collection with atomizers. In the pursuit to make the miniatures look pretty and resemble the full sized bottles, they are limited to just being dabbed on the skin. The jasmine and orange blossom notes smell very similar to Fragonard's other perfumes but unfortunately this isn't for me.

I think my bottle of this (older, vintage version) has spoiled a bit in the top, and I almost wrote it off when my friend gave it to me. Just as I prepared to pass it on, I wore it again and it sang. That dry down is just beautiful: spring flowers and a gorgeous clean white musk. The bizarre, possibly spoilt opening persists for about an hour but underneath it the florals begin to unfold and become something magical. Not saying this happens for newer bottles but if you find a bottle of this in a second hand store or something, decide to pick it up and upon wearing it have a similar experience, give it time. It is magical.

Unfortunately, this is another perfume that turns to soap as soon as it hits my skin. I know some perfumes have a soapy quality, but this literally smells like Pears Soap and nothing else. It happens to me quite a lot and I've yet to discover what the ingredient is that causes this reaction. In the bottle, it smells like sunshine and I was really looking forward to wearing it. But my and Soleil clearly aren't meant to be. Sorry that's all I can say, but I literally only got soap. The rest of you that can wear this are so lucky!

I think I could have purchased this one for the bottle alone. When I first saw it in a Manhattan store there was a magnificent display of dozens of golden suns and I knew I had to try it. The notes listed here sound almost dolorous, but the fragrance is as sunny and warm as the name. The roses are budding beauties and the amber is warm. I have always loved the scent of wisteria and I enjoy this note in Soleil as it wraps itself around the sandalwood trellises. Still adore that bottle!

This scent reminds me of a hot and humid summer day in Hungary, when the sun scorched the flowers in our garden in a sultry afternoon. In the first second rose dominant with orange blossom but they are suddenly fade away and strong sweet jasmine aroma forces them into the background. Finally the sweet wave is goes over and the iris aroma with sandalwood makes the scent velvety and lightly powdery. If you like iris scents, probably you will like this fragrance too.:)

I decided to give this one a try after I figured out that the combination of sandalwood, amber and musk worked well with my body chemistry. This definitely has that, but really has a strong floral. I kind of liked it, my husband really didn't. The after a few hours, figured out the rose smell was super strong. Kind of hard to find too, but if you like roses, you will like this one.

I am big Fragonard fan and I got a sample of Soleil from ebay and was really looking forward to trying it out. What a disappointment as on my skin it smells of urine. I waited to see if it changed but it stayed the same before fading away. So happy I never bought the full Bottle.

White floral bouquet... I love how 90s this blend is with those beautiful rancid jasmines, and orange blossoms. i get as well touches of lilies, iris, sandalwood, ambrette, and musk. Excellency Beauty.

Sunny summer flowers, creamy dry down. Good lasting power and the sunlight effect pouring on the white petals is well done. I do smell some frangipani in the blend, for sure.

Just got a mini bottle today. Very disappointed, it smells very old fashioned floral, the type of fragrance that can cause a headache.

Nice, soapy, common and not sharp scent for older girls. Perfect for summer and spring. Good lasting power.

Strange thing - all I can smell here is ylang-ylang that is not even listed in the pyramid.
