Lucius Maximus

First off I'm a huge fan of Lucius and came into this with high expectations but at the same time not expecting much change either. This turned out to be a lot different. For starters its a lot sweeter, not a summer or warm weather fragrance the way the original can be. Upon initial spray you're hit with very strong but pleasant citrus thay for me fades and then quickly the sweet aroma of the tonka and vanilla make their presence. This very much reminds me of Angel Share OTR but better. More citrus but still that similar sweet spicy kick, almost in the way of Rouge Smoking Extrait but obviously no cherry. That very pleasant sweet warm spicy accord makes this easy to love if you are into that type of fragrance. The woody notes are present but to me they are just great support for the citrus, tonka and vanilla. The vetiver isn't dirty or too earthy. I think it helps add to the sweetness while supporting the longevity of the other notes. This is going to be a huge hit this year but I expect it will take off come this fall and winter. Sillage is pretty strong and can be picked up at a distance and I only sprayed two sprays. So far the longevity appears to be long (6hrs+) but I'm sure that becomes even better in the colder weather. I really like this but I wasn't expecting what it is. I was hoping for another great special summer fragrance but this is not that. This will turn heads 100% in the fall/winter. The price is crazy high though and being an exclusive, I don't expect that will change anytime soon but I sure hope so.

This is exactly what I wrote about the original, and people told me I was wrong, that no extrait or follow-up would ever be announced. And yet here we are. The original Lucius always felt like a joker fragrance to me: multifaceted, shifting, and surprisingly versatile, with a scent profile cut from several angles at once, almost like a marquise diamond. It had brightness, structure, and just enough ambiguity to keep changing shape in the air. Lucius Maximus feels, at least on paper, like the inevitable next move. I suspect it will be more focused than the original, but also denser, deeper, and more deliberate in its construction. Not necessarily better, and not as kaleidoscopic, but more concentrated in character. The added coffee, darker woods, and sweeter base suggest a version of Lucius with more gravity and more shadow, as though the original’s many facets have been pulled into a tighter, more muscular form. In that sense, I imagine it may do something similar to what Fragrance Du Bois did with Sirène and Sirène Privée: taking a broad, expressive idea and refining it into something more controlled, more direct, and perhaps more immediately impactful. If Lucius was the chiseled gem, Lucius Maximus may be the same stone under lower light: less sparkling from every angle, but richer, darker, and cut to emphasize depth over shimmer.

Honestly, Lucius Maximus is an absolute masterpiece and easily one of the most intoxicating scents I’ve ever laid my hands on. The way it opens with a vibrant, refreshing burst of citrus and aromatic notes immediately catches your attention, but the real magic happens as it starts to settle. Within an hour, it transforms into this incredibly smooth blend of warm vanilla and rich, earthy woodiness that feels deeply luxurious. What completely blows me away is how beautifully the coffee and subtle oud peek through in the dry-down, giving it a mysterious, dark edge without being overwhelming at all. It balances sweet, warm spicy, and deep earthy elements so perfectly that it feels both powerfully sophisticated and perfectly unisex. The performance is honestly beastly; I sprayed it in the morning, and I was still catching whiffs of that gorgeous white floral and coffee base late into the evening. Every single time I wear this out, people literally stop me to ask what I’m wearing because the scent trail is just mesmerizing. Fragrance Du Bois really outdid themselves with this one, and it is worth every single penny if you want to smell like pure royalty. 9.8/10.

@mattyruns: Yep. Had to do a double take of the sample. Did not expect that at all. But it’s just the opening. The dry down goes deep and spicy woods, and just kicks the hell out of Gris Charnel. Someone mentioned, Haltane but I think it’s similar to a smoother Kalan. Man, that Jordi can cook, can’t he? @mybottledmoods: I can see why you would be hesitant to wear it. I completely disagree with people who say fragrance is genderless and this is definitely considered a masculine fragrance because it’s so spicy and woodsy. But, do it. It’s just straight up seduction in a bottle. I think a woman would find this to be a boxer droppper.

I'm sorry but how anyone could not love this fragrance is mind blowing. I understand fragrance is subjective but what the fudge are people expecting? This checks all the boxes for me. Phenomenal scent profile, great sillage, projection & the longevity is an average 6-8 hours before sitting close to the skin. Before I even knew Jordie Fernandez was behind this, I said to myself, "wow, this reminds me of Brompton immortals Extrait mixed with YSL 6 place saint Sulpice. Sure enough, JORDIE FERNANDEZ MADE THIS & I NEVER KNEW! I'm such a huge fan of his portfolio of work. Man, get your nose on this one ASAP!

I didn’t expect Lucius Maximus to be impressive. First wear and I got more compliments in one night than usual, but what really got me was how smooth and natural it smelled. Nothing sharp or overly sweet, it feels classier this way, rich, warm, confident, and insanely well blended. The coffee and vanilla in the dry down are addictive without trying too hard. It somehow feels classy and comforting at the same time. A lot of fragrances try to smell “luxurious,” but this one actually does. Total masculine banger, I believe it won't fit a lady tho. This is something I imagine Bruce Wayne would wear.

What is happening to me ? all of a sudden i like coffee perfumes ? This is insane. So good. Coffee is not predominant at all and it's so perfectly hidden and elevates all the other notes. The ingredients mesh so perfectly together like a symphony, i'm really, really impressed. Love this. Def Masculine, but unisex use for sure. I just feel this would perform too magical on a man to try and wear it as a woman? Like i would be doing it a disservice? I think this is a collection piece. Outstanding how good this is. Obsessed. This is a date night you never want to end.

Browsed an entire niche fragrance boutique with my girlfriend; I cannot even tell you how many fragrances we tested.. this was our 1#. Nonetheless, a bottle was a bought and it is now on my TOP shelf of the collection. Only a few make the top shelf ;)

Definitely different from Lucius which is disappointing to me. This is dense. Coffee notes is prominent. Winter fall scent. Not as fruity as Lucius. Still a nice scent but different from what I was expecting. 8/10

jordi fernandez the goat amazing yet overpriced asf not worth even writing a full review just because its overpriced would be already in my collection if it was cheaper

엄청납니다. 오리지널 lucius를 맡아보지는 못했지만 대단히 강력한 향수라고 생각됩니다. 첫 포문을 여는 엄청난 시트러스의 향은 금방 날아가고 우디향을 기반으로 한 바닐라 라떼같은 살짝 달달한 향이 들어오는데 정말 매력적입니다. 강하지만 속은 따뜻한 리더의 모습이 떠오르는 향이네요

This is simply a masterpiece, and in by opinion one of the best niche fragrences out there

Fragrance Du Bois and Jordi Fernández created in my opinion the freshest, most wearable Fragrance with a pronounced coffee note that I have came across yet. This is not what I expected when I first herd of Lucius Maximus. This is not something I would see myself wearing often but I do think it could be signature scent worthy for others.

Opens very similarly to Lucius. It has a bright and vibrant citrus-sweet opening, then quickly transforms into a gourmand-woody profile. The longevity is absolutely insane and absolutely aligns with Fragrance Du Bois' quality and vision. Try it, give it time, and revisit. It's intoxicating.

Luckily I sampled this before buying. This has a cloying, nutty sweetness that I just can’t get past. I like the original a lot, but I can’t get behind this one. This has the exact same effect on me that Coach Platinum had. It gives me this chemical vanilla cake vibe that induces some sort of nausea. The chemically, warm, sweetness just kills my senses. I’m not saying it’s a scrubber by any means, but it just ain’t for me.

The cypriol is present in the og lucius but it’s dialled way too high for my liking in this intense version. It’s so smokey it smells like burnt cederwood and it overpowers every other note to my nose. Not my bag but if you’re into super strong wood notes then you may enjoy this.

Just snagged a bottle of this for an insane price. I recently smelled this in my local boutique and I didn't really stop to appreciate it. I was speed sampling a ton of fragrances which I don't usually do or recommend. I was short on time. With that said this one was stuck in my mind the rest of the day into the night. Haven't smelled the original but I assume it's a more fresher version. My taste leans towards darker, sweet, more woodier scent profiles. This checked all the boxes for me. I don't see oud in the note breakdown but man I swear this has a hint of oud. For the price I got this at it was a no brainer. Dare I say a masterpiece!! Still early but for now lets just say this is an amazing release from the house!

I tried this in the store. The lady insisted it is made for this time of the year but I found it almost warm and sweet. It's very complex, dark and mysterious and I really struggled to tell the notes. It's a great perfume and I really enjoyed it but it doesn't justify the price tag.

Lucius Maximus is drawing me in. This is Sexy. It reminds me of a much more approachable version of Encens Sauve with the coffee, vanilla and smoky woodiness. There's also a really nice and playful floral backbone to Maximus that is missing from the original (and drier) Lucious.

Masculinity in a bottle. Fresh and clean on top, Has depth, and goes darker the more you think about it. Like a bottomless pit, in a good way.

Dare i say it but this is basically a fresher version of Haltane without the oud. So that soft powdery citrus smell with some gourmandyness

Same backbone as the og but with the added vanilla note which makes it smell a little more playful than its counterpart .Overall a 7/10
