New York 5th Avenue

Ever since I've watched Home Alone 2 as a child, I have wanted to visit New York during the christmassy winter! So it comes as no suprise that I would love a fragrance that is inspired by New York during winter! New York 5th Avenue by Fragrance Du Bois is one of the Fashion Capitals perfumes in their collection. Its starts of with a fresh rose with a woody aspect. Eventhough there isnt oud listed as a note, it does come of as a Rose-Oud perfume. There is some guaiac wood in the base, so I am guessing it must be that which gives the oud vibe. It just shows how amazing the quality of all the ingredients are. At first it resembles Oud Satin Mood from Maison Francis Kurkdjian, however without the harsh and fierce opening... fortunately! That was something I couldnt get over with the MFK. And another great difference is the direction that NY 5th Av. is taking after the initial hour. The delicious caramel starts to kick in. A warm gourmondy caramel! Together with the vanilla from the base its comes of as an icecream with caramel topping! I dont know whether it's because of Ramadan (and there is still some hours left before I can eat), but it gets more delicious with the minute. I really enjoy this collection alot because they are quite affordable perfumes (compared to their Oud collection) that contain the best ingredients presented in the luxurious bottles and box!

Oh. My. Gosh. ..... I am kinda speechless.... Where to start?? If New York City smelled like that, I’d abandon everything to go live there! I am sure New York 5th Avenue captures a concept or an idea of an ideal New York, honestly, no city in any place in this world could ever smell like this 😅😆 But oh my goodness, what a beautiful scent this is! The Rose is BIG, she is a Queen and she is wearing the deepest red velvet you could imagine! The Violet is a deep purple, she is supporting the Rose and she radiates bright and strong. The Caramel is definitely present, it isn’t a syrupy caramel though it is sweet, I think it balances the tremendous floral-ness happening in here. Balance is key because then the Woods in this scent are strong too. They are ever so present. Especially at first spray, it feels almost screechy and harsh but thank goodness, it tames down to let the florals shine offering support throughout the whole wear. This is very beautiful as far as perfumes go but you absolutely have to love roses, woods and violets. Otherwise, it would definitely be a challenge to wear! I am absolutely thrilled to have a full bottle of this beauty and I will cherish it. A little goes a very long way with this one. And yes, it is definitely a Winter or Cold Weather perfume...the kind of scent a Tundra Beauty would wear...

New York 5th Avenue by Fragrance Du Bois is an Oriental Spicy and gourmand fragrance. 🗽The composition opens on a jammy and citrusy rose with hints of violet immediately followed by a sweet and syrupy note of caramel. There is also something herbal, green but very soothing and spiritual in this blending maybe the note of Nagarmotha. It gives you the relaxing feeling of incense without the smokiness of it. 🗽Then, the middle stage develops its woody aspect but maintains the sweet facet of the fragrance thanks to the vanilla note. 🗽The base is musky, powdery, still sweet and woody. This is a very seductive, luxurious and sophisticated creation. If you like fragrances like Oud Satin Mood by MFK you will probably dig this. It is definitely a unisex fragrance that will please both gender. A classy, romantic fragrance to wear on special occasions preferably during cold seasons with someone you really want to attract. 🤗🧡 This fragrance is not a heavy beast projector like its twin by MFK but it stays a long time on skin and you will be enveloped by a beautiful scent bubble that will please people around you. The nose behind this beautiful release is the talented Shadi Samra. Thumbs up to fragrance Du bois for this solid release!👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

New York Fifth Avenue is beautiful. This is long lasting, and has great sillage - great for fall and winter - spray very lightly in spring and summer. I feel that this does lean feminine, but men can wear it. Rose and violet are prominent on me...powdery. Nice musk and faint vanilla in the dry down. Faint caramel gives a soft sweetness. There is something almost ...almost pine smelling..meaning it smells cool,almost icy..but it is super faint. This is a very interesting combination of notes. I do get the Oud Satin Mood comparison. Whereas Oud Satin mood is heavy and dense, leaning masculine - NYFA is soft and cool, leaning feminine. As a person who worked at 600 Fifth avenue, part of Rockerfeller Center, across from Saks Fifth Ave and St Patrick's Cathedral for several years...this is a wonderful interpretation of Fifth Avenue during the winter, especially during the Christmas season. This perfume does give me luxury vibes. That said...that luxury smell comes at a luxury price...$$$. However, I monitored Maxaroma until the sale price was $179 down from $345. For me...for $179 for 100ml - beautiful bottle and packaging - this was FBW. Look for a good deal and wrap yourself in this luxurious fragrance.

Love at first sniff and one of the few fragrances that made me "WOW" that I've sampled. I'm super surprised that I'm the first commenter and this is nearly not talked about on Youtube. I think the brand being talked about alongside even the word of oud scares people away... and for this piece it shouldn't. An excellent fragrance indeed, it gets nothing but positive attention everytime I wear it, infact the best attention of any of my current fragrances so that says everything. I think it just works because its not overly complicated nor is it boring. 11Nov2021 Edit: Compliment getter even in the UK (where compliments are rare) and since my review this fragrance got hyped thus popularity went up. I love the opening of this! Very intense, smells like caramelly (but real caramel- not that synthetic syrupy note), jammy rose. You know how people complain about designer perfumes smelling like a mall department store beauty counter? This has a similar department store beauty counter smell, but instead of Macy's, it's Bergdorf's. It's nostalgic, familiar, and a bit generic, but in New York 5th Avenue, it's also *aspirational.* It's an 'I'm going to spend my whole paycheck in this department store' kind of department store smell. The dry down to me reminds me of that of Portrait of a Lady or Vilhlem 125th and Bloom; that's where the spice kicks in. I get a deep, spicy, gothic rose. Very feminine to me. Very 'I've got money honey' type of vibe.

New York 5th Ave is my dream rose-forward fragrance: a well-blended combination of powdery, sweet, and woody notes. In my opinion, I cannot deny that it has similarities to Oud Satin Mood. However, I think that they are two distinct fragrances within the same genre. I prefer New York 5th Ave, as it is more refined, yet playful smelling to my nose. I like that its sweetness is due to caramel, which in combination with the violet, creates a candy-like quality that is full-bodied and sweet but not too much so. It is not too gourmand or juvenile, but it is gourmand-leaning and youthful enough to make it a fun and modern fragrance.

I love love love this. Only thing which is stopping me from bying it is the price because the longevity is terrible. But I can ́t honestly find something what would smell so good to me like this. I tried Oud Satin Mood and it is maybe a little bit similar but totally different! OSM is for tender romantic woman when New York 5th Avenue is for mysterious one. In my opinion New York 5th Avenue have more personalitty, it ́s deeper, it ́s more interesting. OSM is just beuatiful scent which will smell good to almost everyone and that ́s not what I am looking for.

I'm enjoying this decant. I've noticed that I like a lot of scents with rose and cypriol oil. They work very well together. On me, the scent is sweet, powdery, floral, and a bit musky. It reminds me of Mohra Silky Rose EDP by Lataffa which goes for $20. But of course, the notes are not as clean and you can tell the quality of ingredients is not as high with the Lataffa version. Plus the FDB version wears more floral and powdery, while the Lataffa version is more musky with the floral notes being very small, and the musk is a bit sharp.

I get a soapy tar scent? It's not bad. On the right person, perhaps someone with clout in a business wearing nice clothes would make this scent really interesting. I'm just not that person so this is a pass for me. Edit: After reading some reviews after posting mine I'm convinced I received the wrong sample. I don't smell rose. I don't smell vanilla. This doesn't remind me of Oud Satin Mood. I get soapy tar. A few hours later....soapy tar. Like I said, it's not bad, it's just not for me...whatever it may be :)

On me this is 90% soft musk with a very soft musk dominant vanilla - rose combo. Incredibly polite, very quiet rose in the background, for this price you really do expect more oomph, but it does smell expensive. Nonchalant expensive. You can get this scent for a fraction of the price, though. My first association was Angela Schlesser Oriental II - but that one is more gourmand and oomphy. Also muskane nishane has a very similar feel to it. Testing by Inserah gold - very very similar to my nose!

The delicious elegant smell. Mom and sis ,they love it(unisex smell). Idk about y'all but this is a room filler. It projects really good and has a good longevity. This is a really elegant smell that reminds me of women on a luxurious dinner or event with a silky black dress and red lips that smells yummy yummy powerful and feminine. 😂🤌🏻. Don’t mind me but i love this fragrance. As i guy i wear it too. Its a really warm welcoming smell. Love the caramel in it.

An elegant, refined perfume, subtle and balanced. Every wearing makes me appreciate the perfumer's art even more. After years of buying/sampling everything I could (affordably!) get my hands on, I've finally found something that I'd consider a signature scent. I could wear this daily and never tire of it. Moderate silage but great longevity. I found a good price on a bottle and decided it's worth the splurge for something that makes me feel so beautiful.

Beautiful fragrance in which the tartness of the jammy rose shines in the mid. It manages to smell ambery without using the standard labdanum and vanilla (is the cashmeran the replacement for the labdanum here, I wonder). Wearing this on Christmas Day, I feel that this fragrance captures the holiday atmosphere perfectly for me.

Do not buy this expecting an oud satin mood. This fragrance is more metallic than silk. It's still smooth, and very elegant, but by no means OSM. Definitely get a sample before buying. I still love this one more than OSM due to it not being too sugary and more versatile.

if u think the rose opening is nice and the caramel midnote is to die for, wait till the far far dry down. there is when the nicest natural smelling vanilla starts to emerge. and u just want to hug urself cuz ur smelling so damn good!

By far my favorite in my collection. the caramel evens out the oud to make it a lot more well rounded.

Well, this *was* a surprise. Scents can take so many different routes, especially from the 1st spray that salespeople & many others typically love to simply swat aside & ignore for whatever odd reason. 1st impression counts for me most in tasting items: and Fragrance doesn't get more of a perfect model for 1st impressions. So, the Harrods salesman's word were ''it's strong, so just keep that in mind''. That,, intimidated me lol. As if I hadn't have enough horror stories from my expectations dropped onto the floor (from a 5th floor) enough by scents! ***So, The Scent*** De Bois New York starts off rich and warm, and slightly spiced - yet also bright & with an ever so slight animalic suprise. It's very elegant, yet has a slight animalic edge to it that's very chic and Haute. So, immediately I could tell this wasn't made to be a heavy handed potential scrubber ''wait it out for the drydown though!!1'' type scent. I got some nice light lemony bergamot but mainly what I perceived a White floral with a very slight vanillic/ambery nuance. These are all made to be so soft, yet crucially *smooth - *not powdery. That's what set this one apart from the other (extremely expensive) masses. This is Classy, royal and commands respect whether a person might like the actual scent profile or not; it's just very Good, refined and knows that about itself. During the drydown - without checking the notes, the best I could pinpoint was a lovely slightly orangey tinged Marshmallow floral - but caramel didn't cross my mind immediately. This is wonderful: main thing is the rose doesn't become thick, powdery or overbearing like many other ''bold pushy'' scents. It's there for sure as the scent slowly develops out - but so well blended with the melange of gentle sweetish spice and 'marshmallow' with that orange ice-cream lick. So, the deliberate Sweeter notes, plus the fact they do ever so slightly peek out right at the beginning, saves this scent for me. I do get slight oudy hints later too but against; more restrained than other 'shouters' & so high class & well blended. Rose & oud are definitely not near my favorite genre lol, but this is the best of how I would like them to be presented: emerging later in the scent with a gentle, refind approach. The rose is more like the 'Rose31' type rose that is 'woody and watery'. Less thick, and not of the full on flower power floral kind. So, that's Good. I'll test further - I really, *really* want to give this a coveted 8/10 rating but for now it will just be a tentative score as I will test out on further wears. It's an intriguing, very well made and yet Commanding scent that should (and will no doubt) sit among the highest praise for many. My raing: 7/10. Scent Quality: 10/10.

Meh. Smells like tea and cashmere. It’s missing something to send it over the edge into becoming an amazing fragrance. It has an MFK Oud satin or silk mood vibe (can’t remember which one but probably the one everyone likes) which I’m not a fan of one of them. Smells better when layered with by kilian intoxicated. They both have something similar but intoxicated is full body and not lacking. Also this has the worst lasting power, I am hydrated and moisturized yet this last like an hour and then I’m sniffing all over my arm looking for it. I even sprayed it in my scarf but it disappeared. I don’t hate it and I will find some use for it but I could have used this money to buy oud rose intense 🥀 from the house because to me that’s a signature scent.

This starts immediately with a citrusy rose but the rose seems watery, it's beautiful. The carmel comes in very quickly giving it a nice warm sweet feel, it seemed like it was going to be overly sweet, like in a juvenile way, but never reach that point. I don't detect any violet on my first wearing. This does have an Oud feel to it although there's not Oud listed. I think it is from cyproil and the guaiac wood giving it that feel. The vanilla is familiar and not cloying in the dry down which is magical. That's where the powdery feeling shine. I absolutely love this drydown. This is a fragrance for anyone to wear, female, male, young and old.

Today I was meeting my friend for coffee and as soon as she walked into the cafe could smell her , so I grabbed her like a psychopath and asked her what fragrance she had on because it it stunning! She then told me it was New York 5th avenue I’m not usually one for rose but this rose scent is done beautifully the woodie notes and rose has been blended perfectly. I’ve also just seen there is a caramel note that I did not pick up on but I did notice a slight sweetness ( not cloying at all) I will definitely be buying a sample to try on my own skin before purchasing the full bottle

This is very jammy rose with oud scent profile. To me this is more rose than oud. It is nice, but it is not unique. I think you can get similar scent for less money, but it is by no means a bad fragrance. Very versatile, can be someone’s signature scent.

A truly gorgeous fragrance that I’d happily buy. The rose is perfect - not fake or cloying. The Violet is scrumptious. I love this scent. It’s sophisticated without trying too hard.

Really nice. Warm, comforting. Could be one of the Roja Amore trio. But... I find it to be quite feminine, maybe even for older women (50+?).

I want to love this fragrance.... I really do. Objectively speaking I think this is a great fragrance. It is a jammy rose with sweet, powdery undertone. Beautifully crafted. The first time I worn this, I got complements from my man and my friends. Love that.... Here’s the kicker, I get headaches because I think I have a sensitivity towards rose fragrances and this one is no exception. Never really knew it was specifically roses that trigger my headaches until I got this one. For some reason, I always thought it was white florals that give me the headaches. For people who does not have sensitivity towards roses, and like rose fragrances, this is a super beautiful one to check out. It last about a good 6-7 hours with a good projection.( not insane in the projection aspect but it’s very elegant and not vulgar). It absolutely would not assault someone with the scent. It’s a love hate relationship for me on this one. On one hand I get compliments but I got to endure the headache I get from the opening. Lowkey wish I am nose blind to this so I can wear it without getting headaches lol

After trying a tester and thinking about whether I should buy this perfume, I gave up. It is too strong and very flowery/rose heavy, and it kind of bothers me. The projection is crazy, I applied this perfume to my arms this morning, and after 6 hours it feels like I just applied it. It doesn’t really have a dry-down, the scent stays the same and lasts a very long time. I am not a fan of floral or rose scents, although I do own Flower from Goldfield & Banks and Flower by Kenzo 21 Woman EDT, but 5th Avenue is just not the perfume for me. I’m more of a vanilla and gourmand girl, and I would not recommend buying this perfume, especially not as a blind buy.

I enjoy the opening more than the drydown. The opening is a nice strong woody rose, with a nice medicinal touch given the nagarmotha. The drydown is where I'm not crazy about this fragrance, a doughy caramel appears that doesn't smell high quality or unique. It's strong, though, and I got compliments from two people which I didn't expect from this type of perfume - so there is that. It doesn't smell bad, just not very special and not reflecting the pricepoint.

Smells like jammy rose and waxy lipstick. Definitely not unisex in the middle. Leans a lot more fem to be honest. Has a powdery foundation that makes you think of a woman doing her makeup next to freshly cut roses and she is already wearing something perfumey which is mixing in with everything else. Would smell good on a woman. A little dab is jumping off of my skin after an hour of application. This would be a beast mode performer in anyone's collection.

Typical rose oud. Smells like Ardent but less punchy. This one is the least rosy and skanky and more sweet so probably more mass pleasing? There are way too many similar fragrances like just pick the cheapest one. They all smell the same. The performance on this one is terrible. How are they charging what they charge for this? Straight robbery!

Chocolate, caramel, berries, boozy - loud! Brash. You’re in charge when you wear it! You have expensive taste and demand quality in every aspect of your life. Best for winter. I wore this in the crook of my arm to Costco on a warm day [and as soon as I got out of the car], it was following me! I’ll save it for a rainy day.

New York 5th Avenue Fragrance Du Bois (Record from sniff party) The rose is kinda ok, the powderness is kinda ok. Sweeten aspect kinda ok. Only aspect that turn me off is green edge that I don’t find it appealing to the profile. It doesn’t scream fem energy but not masculine male either.

A Montale-like rose with musk. The musk on drydown gets a bit scratchy and laundry soapy. At a regular price this might be worth more thought. Pass.

It’s simple and has only decent performance. Last 6-7 hours and weak to moderate projection. It even turn into skin scent after 2 hours. It smell a little like Oud Satin Mood but Oud Satin Mood is much better. Oud Satin Mood has more complex composition and more unique. Also Oud Satin Mood has much better performance, 12+ hours longevity and 6’ projection for 4 hours. Even after that, it’s still project about 2’-3’. More importantly, it’s cheaper than the New York 5th Ave. Actually I tried a few 2ml samples from Fragrance Du Bois. They’re all not perform very well. All about the same performance as the 5th Ave. They’re so overpriced for such performance. There are many other brands that have more unique scents and much better performances. For example: Initio, Kilian, Parfum de Marly, MFK, Roja, Frederick Malle, Tiziana Tarenzi and many more. I tried their samples because of Demi Rawling highly praised them but I’m totally disappointed. This brand just not worth the money.

very weak perfume overall, lacks personality and depth. it is very nice smelling perfume for an hour, and then it sits very close to the skin. definitely overpriced.

This is a weird one. Smells like a damp moldy rag with some kind of sweet chemicals on it, like mineral spirits. That must be the Cypriol and the sweet component is the caramel. It’s also possible that the musk used in this is animalic. Can’t figure out where the funk is coming from, but it’s really terrible. Anyway, apologies to those that love New York 5th Avenue. I don’t expect every scent to work for me, and this makes me physically nauseated. A rare hate vote from me.

The major problems with this fragrance are the poor longevity and the price. Feels like a ripoff. Would justify at $150 range.

I get straight baby powder with a hint of rose. Not for me!

New York 5th Avenue opens with a beautiful sweet combination of rose and caramel. I detect tiny amounts of oud in the the opening even though it is not listed in the notes. The fragrance then moves to a floral heart, the violet is present and it makes the scent quite powdery and there is also Cypriol to give a green aromatic touch. I normally dislike Cypriol in fragrances but here it is present in the right amount. In the drydown, the fragrance turns into a musky woody base, the rose is still present, but the cashmere wood becomes prominent and I detect clean musk and a touch of sweetness from the vanilla. The Guaiac wood is present to add some creaminess. Overall, New York 5th avenue is a beautiful sweet rose fragrance, it does not bring something new but it is very well-blended and among the best in its class. I consider it to be unixsex and can be worn in any season. Also, it has very good performance.

I have wanted this for over a year & finally went for it. It’s beautiful. When I first got it I was struggling to find the caramel but now I do when I sniff the cap. That’s where the mild sweetness in the scent comes from. It’s not too much sweetness in this though. It’s like the perfume trying so hard to become too sweet and it just can’t reach there If you had told me this had Oud in it, I would have believed you. It doesn’t smell too oudy (I think that’s the violet) but it has that vibe. Smells clean & luxurious. I smell so elegant wearing this. The bottle looks so pretty on my vanity. I just want to pick it up and smell it all day. I’ve worn it three times now & I only got it 7 days ago. It only lasts a few hours but it smells amazing when you move. This might be signature scent worthy.

The colors and shades of New York in a fragrance: sparkling and lively opening, which leaves space to warm and sweet accents with a caramel that sweetens but in turn is tamed by camphorous and woody nuances. An intense, dense, very incisive fragrance: in my opinion a perfume that you need to know how to wear, it really gives a lot of personality. It is warm, sensual, very particular. The New York of 5th Avenue, to be admired and desired. “Heart” by Keith Haring, one of the most representative artists of this city, who declared something wonderful: «It is increasingly clear to me that art is not an elitist activity reserved for the appreciation of a few: art is for everyone and this is the goal I want to work towards»

This actually does not smell exactly like MFK Oud Satin Mood. The rose, violet, oud, vanilla similarities are there, but this is less powdery, more rose than violet, cypriol “oud” and brighter woody facets from the guaiac, and less vanilla. I smell a bit of Roja’s Amber Aoud, but this is much louder. If you don’t like this, you’ll have difficulty removing it. Luckily for me, this is a rose woody fragrance I really like. I personally wouldn’t be able to wear as often as Jo Malone’s Velvet Rose & Oud which is not similar but in the same genre, but if you have no limits to your collection and are looking for a powerhouse, this seems like a worthy purchase. This stayed on my skin consistently for 6+ hours.

I had to give this 4 sprays from a 2ml sample to get the full benefit of this perfume. Like the description, it opens with the rose and bergamot and the bergamot is replaced by the caramel. After a few minutes, it's a warm mix of sweet rose and caramel before the vanilla kicks in. It's not projecting particularly well on my skin and it's quite close. It doesn't have to be a beast mode fragrance, but it would have been so much better if it projected more. As for the comparisons with Oud Satin Mood - I've just tried OSM on my other arm, it's not even similar. There's far more violet in OSM. That said, with one spray of OSM, it's stronger than New York 5th Ave with 4 sprays.

Smells nothing like Oud satin mood or any of the MFK ouds. Don't know where people get that nonsense from. To my nose I get Rose, Caramel, vanilla and Cashmere wood from the 1st initial blast. 5th Ave is a very soft & intimate scent which also makes it different from the MFKs. As it dries some more of the sweetness comes out and I detect amber although not credited. This dries down to a woody, Amber floral and it definitely is not linear. Overall it's very pretty unisex leaning feminine on a count of the jammy rose and sweet caramel sweetness. This is an 8/10 for me I wouldn't mind my lady wearing it

initially it smells strongly of a vintage amber. It reminds me of a man in his late sixties, smoking a cigar in a dimly lit lounge. Then it turns to a strong woody, slightly floral profile. Like walking into a lobby with freshly waxed wooden floors with a fresh bouquet of flowers on the concierge counter. All of a sudden you’re hit in the face with a huge whiff of powder -think talc or the type with a powder puff that women would use back in the day. Fragrance du Bois seems to have a common DNA of strong amber which can be overpowering and not of my taste.

Let me tell you how much I love fragrances that unfolded throughout the day giving you a new scent experience as it traverses through its scented layers. This started off as a strong burnt - in an incense sort of way - rose. It is slightly reminiscent of Montale Rose Auod but a gentler version. Very wearable as a daily with perfect sillage of long lasting an amber scent on the dry down. For me 7 hours and counting. It is FB worthy but if price is a deciding factor Montale might be a better choice.
