Velvet Rouge

I just blind bought this and it arrived today. I’m not a huge rose scent by itself lover but I’m always looking for rose done differently and i have quite a few that are all very different. I wanted something vampy and dark for the fall winter season This delivers!! It’s a deep dark red rose with the rich earthy sweetness of patchouli that reminds me of coco mademoiselle or coco noir. But it has this white tea note that reminds me of the spa like aroma of tea fragrances that blends so nicely with the deeper dark rose and earthy sweetness patchouli bringing a tad of softness to all that weight, plus the pink pepper that brightens it up just a tad more and then that lovely woody vetiver in the end. I don’t pick up a lot on the Jasmine but maybe it’s just that well blended bc this isn’t just straight up rose. Yes you smell a lot of the rose but it’s rose done differently due to all those other notes that come together with it so nicely! This is not a juvenile bubble gum pink candy marshmallow fragrance. This is adult, this is sophistication, this reminds me of perfume from the 90s. And I’m all here for it! I love it!!

Tested this side by side with YSL Rouge Velours. One on a wrist, one on the other. I honestly couldn't tell the difference. This is simply almost an identical alternative and its only minor flaw would be a poorer longevity than its original counterpart, but for the price point it's honestly a steal if you're a rose aficionado and I wouldn't mind reapplying more often. That said, these two rose renditions are simply lovely. The rose in these is red, elegant, mature, feminine and seductive. It's not a young, pink, spring rose for young girls. I'd say it's a very good perfume for a special occasion, a romantic one especially. It's an evening scent. I'd wear this almost year round, perhaps not in summer as it could be quite overpowering. I prefer this in colder weather, that's when it really opens up to its fullest potential. If you love rose fragrances, then this is a must. 🙂

Nose Note #139 The most realistic rose I've smelled in a fragrance so far. We've had some rose dominant fragrances, but this one is just so beautiful. Strange it doesn't have that much attention. The juice color really suits the scent and the bottle altogether looks very classy. If you are building a small collection, this could be the only one fragrance for colder days. It may not suit underage girls, but it can add a touch of class to anybody. Personally I wear almost anything, even if it's designed to be feminine. I feel very comfortable wearing this. Women fragrances usually give a man some impression of extra amiability. For me it happened to be an unexpected gem. The only downside is that I find the performance to be just average

As a person who is trying to enjoy the pink roses so popular at the moment, I took a chance on this and am so glad I did. This is a sexy, photorealistic rose scent. The tea and pink pepper keep it sparkling but I really enjoy the grounding of the patchouli and vetiver dry down, with the animalic musk that makes this really gorgeous. This isn’t for the playground - this is sophisticated and grown up. For the price you’d better get the car started - it is very close to the OG and you can go through bottles without guilt.

Feminine, mass-pleasing, great value. Very realistic rose with some depth but not too sweet or overly mature. Probably not suitable for girls < early 20s though. GOOD blind buy!!

It is a brooding red rose in full bloom, dark and mature. I just don't find it all that wearable. I can appreciate the artistry of this creation while not loving it.

Initial review, before maturation: I have never smelt Rouge Velours, but to me this perfume is in the same category as Narciso Rodriguez For Her (pink bottle, not the black one): sweet, very musk-heavy, slightly rose, a smidge of patchouli. But it's mainly sweet musky to me. I wouldn't even necessarily think of the rose as rose. Unfortunately, I don't like that DNA as it smells really cloying to me. It's better than For Her pink, and especially the black, bottles from Narciso Rodriguez though.
