Connemara

I took a tincture of Connemara with me to Ireland last September, and am wearing the scent today. It brings to mind the streets of Dublin, the River Boyne, the Hill of Tara, and a 400 year old B&B in County Donegal. Connemara has always reminded me of YSL's Paris, and I have both. Connemara is a little woody/ greener, and depending on the time of year, the rose, floral and powdery notes may be more (or less)noticable. For example, the weather here has been cooler lately (an anomaly in late August in the South) and I definitely think the rose accords were crisper. During hotter/ humid temps the accords tend to be greener. It's a great perfume, and will always be my olfactory ticket to Ireland.

I originally bought this at an Irish sweater store in downtown Annapolis, Maryland. I found it again some years later at an Irish store near Princeton, New Jersey. I absolutely love this fragrance. It is carnation, rose and violet on a finely-milled soap and powdery base. This isn't a complicated perfume but it has an old world, Victorian-style charm. It reminds me of some of the Laura Ashley fragrances from the 1980's. Distinctly feminine. It is also quite affordable at around $40 USD for 1.7 ounces. I will always have a bottle on hand and hope they never stop making it.

Beautiful and difficult to really categorize for me. It's got green and aquatic notes, there's a hint of spice, of flowers... and strangely, and maybe it's purely my imagination- lanolin? Like the smell when you press your face against soft wool and inhale. I love it, but at the moment, cannot afford.

I don't know how much it is sold at, but I feel lucky when seeing quite a few comments mentioning it's expensive. I got it for 25 AUD at a charity shop today. Love exploring all the vintage frags. Haven't opened yet. Will try and update my review.

A stunningly beautiful Irish Fragrance!!! Sadly so unknown and underrated. I had the original one with the black cap, so I don't know if the one with the green cap is the same or a reformulation.

I absolutely adore this perfume, folks always asked me what I was wearing. A bit pricey for me at the moment, but look forward to wearing it again some day.

Green grassy sharp sweet floral aldehyde; lovely, bordering on a light chypre, perfect for spring

The main notes for me are violet and musk (sandalwood later), with the rest in a blend. Starts out rather soapy, becomes more powdery at the middle phase, then spicy in the final stage when the sandalwood takes over (and I must say the sandalwood in my bottle is first-rate). Nice development here, good quality, long-lasting and priced well. I have many from this house and enjoy wearing them especially in March. This one is particularly fitting for late winter and early spring.

Connemara is a nice scent. I do like the top notes of rose and ylang ylang, when I can sense them. But on my skin it is reading very, very soapy. So much so that I can hardly discern the other notes. This happens to me occasionally, so it may be a question of skin chemistry or an olfactory misfire. The soapiness softens over time, but then so does the entire scent. It ends as a soft, slightly powdery-clean floral.

It says floral but it’s a very bitter green floral. Not sweet in the least amount and very mature smelling. Great for a warm, wet spring day.

Connemara starts as a sharp, bright floral with loads of freesia and lily of the valley. I remembered this as a rose-forward scent, but today it came off as LOTV + freesia. After the initial blast, the orris + violet takes over for a while, which makes me compare this to YSL Paris, except this is soapier and more aldehydic. They both have that orris in the background. If Connemara had been more widely marketed, it could have become a classic. It has a classic structure and feel, like good leather loafers and cardigans.

Connemara is a unique perfume rare out there. On my skin it smells well blended chamomile, even though it doesnt contain chamomile, grass, along powedery soft rose which really has a lovely effect on me as it quiets down my system when i smell it after a warm shower as a good hot green tea. I have associated this beautiful perfume as a comforting herbal aroma theraphy kinda of smell.After spraying it sparingly on a warm clean skin Connemara travels my mind and soul into places i have never been.Thank you Ireland!

To me, there’s a lot of violet in this fragrance, which we all associate with powder. So, to my nose, it’s very much a mature scent, and not necessarily in a good way. It’s dated. And it doesn’t have the panache or timeless character to make it relevant in today’s market. The floral and powder notes are cloying and overwhelming. It does tend to make me nauseous.

I finally had a chance to sniff this at a Celtic festival recently. It's a nice floral, but did not evoke Connemara for me. I can see this being easily worn by many women, but it lacks originality. A pretty floral, coming out mostly white flowers on my skin.

Wow this fragrance is nuclear strength ! I get a lot of Rose, LOTV, Carnation. If YSL Paris and Tresor had a baby, its smells as if Sofia a Grojsman composed it. It is however unapologetic and a touch harsh.

I love this fragrance. I'm usually not one for florals, but this has a depth to it that I enjoy. It does smell a little, "mature" to me. I don't imagine it being popular amongst younger women.

Hey, can somebody correct this information, please? There's no such thing as the Book of Celts. It's the Book of Kells, after Kells Monastery.

Still not corrected, and this Celt bemoans the misspelling, too.
