Inis the Energy of the Sea

“If you like sand dunes and salty air.....” so the song goes and if you do like those things, then I think you will love Inis. The marketing tagline references “the energy of the sea” and they couldn’t really have put it better. It is very sea-sidey, aquatic, ozonic, salty, refreshing. Like a bracing sea breeze on a stroll on an Irish beach. This scent captures very accurately the sense of an Irish summer that is spent in breezy sea-side walks with rough gravelly sand underfoot and seagulls wheeling and calling in the air overhead followed by hot, salty chips eaten from a paper bag. This scent is not just for summer though, its clean freshness makes it relevant all year round but I must say it is the main player in my summer scent rotation year after year. There is a wide and generous range of flanker products including a scented candle, shower gel, soaps and hand and body cream of a luscious, thick and nourishing quality rarely seen even in major brands. This year, to my great delight, a linen spray has been introduced and I like to use a light spritz of this on blouses and linen when I iron them or for an evening bath-time treat, a spritz on the bedlinen after an Inis scented bath, and the scented candle glowing. I think It would be so nice if you had summer house guests to spray the linens and towels with this and put the candle and hand cream beside their bed. This is definitely a unisex fragrance, suitable for people of all genders who just want to smell deliciously fresh. The cologne comes in many sizes of bottle from as small as 8ml up to 100ml and several choices in between. The bottles are frosted glass which comes over as a nod to sea glass and the larger bottles have lids that look like sea glass pebbles. The word Inis which means Island in Irish is done in a sort of naïve scratchy font like when kids write their name in the sand with a stick. This timeless, ageless, elegant fragrance punches way above its weight on price so I exhort anyone who might be Inis-curious to pick up one of the many items from the range and give it a go, you might just find a new fresh favourite.

Ahhh! You know how a fragrance can just transport you back to a certain period in your life? this one is one of 3 that transports me back to when I lived in Scotland, and I reach for it quite a lot when I have bouts of homesickness for there. I discovered it in a boutique type store in a small town, it was a scalding hot day, everyone was roasting in the heat, there was also a mild breeze which carried the smell of the flowers in a nearby park as well, I saw the tester and something just drew me to it, I had a spritz, and it was an instant love! Inis opens with a cooling burst of sea water and lemon, as it dries down, nutmeg, bergamot and lily-of-the-valley make an appearance, I don't really pick up on any of the other spices listed on my skin, the overall effect is a very refreshing pick-me-up that is very very natural smelling, and does indeed smell like sea air. I see that others have said that to them Inis smells like L'eau D'issey and L'eau D'issey pour homme, I can see where they are coming from, as they are in a similar vein, but even if you own L'eau D'issey, this is still worth owning as it does have its differences as well as similarities. To me, this is my spiritual home in a bottle, I will be purchasing a full bottle soon <3

I think most fragance afficianados are familiar with the way the fragrance industry works; a company issues a document called a "brief" describing what they want a particular fragrance to be, and different perfumers and perfume houses send samples of what they think fit's that brief to in order to bid on the contract to make that fragrance. To me, Inis "Energy of the Sea" smells like it could (keyword, I know the fragrance I'm about to mention is much older by a few decades) have been a brief created to scent Irish Spring soap, but with a different execution or interpretation, perhaps that of someone who actually lived in Ireland. If you think I'm off base with that description, consider how an Irish person would create a scent that matches the overall description of Irish Spring soap used in their advertising; fresh waters, rolling green fields with flowers, fresh all while remaining soapy and clean. That's pretty much this fragrance, but made much nicer. My only complaint would be the opening; I love the way it grabs you and goes "WE'RE NEXT TO SEA, PAL!!!" I just hate that it doesn't last long or carry over into the rest of the fragrance.

I just got this fragrance in yesterday after wanting it for some time... for some damn reason I had convinced myself I was part Irish even though I knew damn well I was Scottish *smacks head* and I thought it would be cool to own a nice fragrance from my ancestors home country!! It does seem that sometimes stupid people get very lucky as it is in my case. I am soo glad I forgot my bloodline because I may have never picked up this wonderful fragrance. I am really enjoying it!!. For me it has a wonderful citrus, ocean, airy vibe to it. When wearing it I imagine someone planted a grove of lemon trees along the Irish shoreline and I am just laying up on the grassy hill enjoying the wonderful cool ocean breeze blowing through those lemon trees. I have only worn it one night and I can still smell it almost 10 hours later. I guess the sillage is good to because tonight one of my coworkers looked at me and said "Damn you smell good Blue" and he was standing about 4 feet from me.

Inis may be my perfect sea breeze fragrance. No hints of coconut suntan lotion or beverages bedecked with umbrellas that are present in so many beach-themed scents. Along the same lines, I've tried Heeley's Sel de Marin and Profvmvm Roma's Acqua di Sale and while I like them, they tend to turn a bit seaweed-y on my skin. A bit too photorealistic for my taste and that price point. Inis has the same marine saltiness but the citrus, florals, and oakmoss keep it from turning full fish market on me. It's a saltier version of L'eau d'Issey, which I loved back in the day. Also smells much like Pre de Provence's Sea Salt soap, which I use daily at least half the year. Longevity and sillage are nothing special, maybe a bit better than average. The good thing is that Inis is reasonably priced, so reapplication won't hurt too much. Better yet, proceeds from purchases are donated to the Irish Whale and Dolphin group for marine wildlife conservation. It smells good and does good!

This was the first fragrance I owned and bought with my own money several years ago. The scent of Inis as a whole to me is a beautiful, watery cascade of a vibrant mixture of notes - it never quite settles as an aquatic, floral or spicy scent. The edible citruses on the top are fresh and clean. While the packaging and inspiration behind the fragrance are very much sea based, I have always found that Inis inspires the feeling of a cool, fresh breeze. Once it begins to settle onto the skin, I find it takes on a sort of warm spicy, salty musk characteristic, which is definitely where the sea inspiration shines through for me. As this is sold as a cologne, I found that I could use a lot of it repeatedly throughout the day, which was lovely in that I could be enveloped by its beautiful scent all day long, but not so great in how quickly I ploughed through bottles of it. I used an entire travel-size bottle and a full-size bottle in the space of a year and a half.

I was first introduced to this perfume in 2011 on the recommendation of a 'friend' and I really did not like it at all. Today I decided to revisit it and I don't know what happened but I love it. Maybe they reformulated it or maybe my body chemistry changed since I first tried it. Or maybe it's because the 'friend', and I'm using the term loosely, no longer matters to me? The first time I tried it I mostly got a real blast of the cloves and other base notes which was really unpleasant for me but this time I get such a lovely salty, beachy, clean fresh smell and the saltiness stays through dry down where there is also a sense of warmth and none of the bitter smell of the base notes I got the first time I tried it. It's gorgeous and I am now considering it as my signature scent. Longevity and silage are decent but could be better. The warm saltiness does stick around for a while which is nice.

It’s like fresh ocean air .it reminds me of a perfume called sea splash that I used to wear but they quit making it. I put this on when I get out of the shower everywhere, it always makes me feel fresh and clean, sometimes I add a little something else to it , if I feel like it ,but it’s definitely one of those perfumes I can wear to work and no one‘s gonna get mad about it. You’ll smell fresh from the shower all day in Inis. I was recently sick to my stomach and throwing up constantly, had to have my gallbladder removed. During this time when I was so sick every perfume except for three, just added to my nausea. But I was able to wear Inis, green tea Elizabeth Arden and Wet Garden,Demeter, because all three of these fragrances smell like fresh air and not like a strong perfume . Classic, I love Inis and I’m on my second bottle.

What a perfect seaside dream. The few times that I've tried meditating, I like to close my eyes and visualize a very relaxing scenario. Inis conjures up a perfect, zen, gorgeous, oceanside scene. I'm on a desolate beach, I'm barefoot, wearing a white, flowy dress, with a slouchy, light-knit cardigan. My hair is long like a mermaid, blowing in the wind, and I feel more beautiful and at peace than I ever imagined possible. The air is salty and clean, there's a lovely breeze, the waves are steadily rolling in, and the seagulls caw melodically. I'm walking along the waters edge, feeling the cool water roll over my toes, until I'm met by rocks and driftwood that have piled up so artistically. I climb onto a large rock and sprawl out on my back. I close my eyes, and then I wake up. Seriously, Inis is beautiful.

I recently bought this on a trip to Ireland and the cashier complimented my choice and explained that it's the fragrance that "basically all Irish women wear." Honestly, I can see why. I would say that this fragrance is unisex and works for either gender, but depending on your preference it may lean more feminine because it has definitely has strong notes of white floral mixed in with aquatic notes. It smells like you're holding a bouquet on a cold, foggy day. It's also just an extremely likable and unoffensive smell. It's not too strong and you can pretty safely blind-buy or get it as a gift. God--I'm happy--I just won an internet contest on Facebook for an entire collection of INIS--a good friend gave me a bottle of this years ago, I loved it used it all quickly and then couldn't find it again when I moved--while taking a friend to a Dr's apt in a local city, I found it again in their gift shop and bought a small spray and a small travel body lotion and now,I'm getting the entire line in about 2 days! I love this fresh, energetic, airy, bright and clean scent, especially in summer! I generally like aquatic,ozonic fragrances--loved the original Aqua De Gio, liked Dune, but this one improves my mood and gives me a sense of freedom--I definitely get the citrus but the florals are what last for me, I love this stuff!

I love this fragrance! It was a spur-of-the-moment purchase while I was in an Irish-themed boutique. One sniff and I was hooked. This is a fresh, clean unisex fragrance with an interesting mix of notes. I'm catching the citrus and marine notes along with the spicy ones. I normally am not find of spicy fragrances, but this is subtle here. I'm not getting much in the way of floral notes on me. It's a year-round fragrance for me, although not for evening wear in the winter; fine for daytime. I think this is my new favorite scent; I was looking for something :different for me," and this is definitely it. I just wish it weren't quite so unisex; would like a hair more femininity, but that's a very minor negative.

I really like this scent. I bought it when I was on vacation in Ireland and it was love on first sight :) For me it's the smell of clean saltwater or sea breeze plus citrus notes, lemon and lime and something vaguely flowery, I guess that's the lily of the valley. The other notes of the official scent description escape me, but I like it very much on me. It works well with my skin chemistry, it's fresh and clean and a great choice for summer. Though I wear it whenever I feel like it ;) When I'm wearing it, it transports me back to Ireland. I remember the wind and rain and all those gorgeous places we went to. The grass really is greener in Ireland ;)

A unique and interesting fresh/blue fragrance. Standard citrus and aquatic top notes which are so reminiscent of the genre but the mid note florals and the slightly spicy, earthy base lean it towards unisex and add depth. Performs well for a scent of this type as well despite the low concentration, I usually get around 6 or so hours out of it and it is well blended with the citrus and aquatic qualities staying present throughout. Definitely going to be my primary blue for the foreseeable future. If you like blues and want one that's a little more unique and spicy with energy, I would absolutely recommend this especially for the price.

This may be the happiest and most beautiful aquatic fragrance I've yet experienced. It also seems to share the same DNA as this same niche house's Patrick, which is one of my favorite fougéres of all time. Inis the Energy of the Sea reminds me so much of the original vintage formulation of CK One (with all the original velvety oak moss), only minus the citrus and with the addition of sea notes. This is one of the most uplifting fragrances I've tried in months and months: it almost instantly put me in a great mood. And it's not expensive, either, which is remarkable for such a genuinely joyous summer fragrance.

One of my all time favourite perfumes, and scents of all time in general. I live somewhere with terrible weather and only get to go to the beach every few years, but this smells just like it and always makes me happy. I keep the perfume by my bedside and often open it up just to sniff it. Great value for money too, again considering it perfectly captures the scent of the sea and you are supporting an Irish company. I have marked it as a summer and spring scent but I do often wear it in colder months too. It's a very fresh and natural scent and would honestly work for any occasion.

I think my heart stopped when I first smelled this! It is the best sea fragrance I have ever smelled! Since visiting California years ago I have searched for sea smells for my house and car to capture that exact smell of the big ocean calling you to itself with salty air. I loved that experience! Inis captures that in a wearable beautiful sea-like sweet way. I am so thrilled to have finally gotten a bottle! And to think it was in a boutique in the little city I visit every week all along! Wow what a happy girl I am!

Strictly a 50-50 unisex fragrance. Authentic smell of the coast (especially a rugged coast, and not necessarily the beach), and great to use on a vacation any time of the year anywhere near there, or anywhere else to remind you of the same. Great sprayer too which produces a fine mist. Borderline niche in my view, and very nice all round. A point to add is that although it performed very well in cool weather on the first occasion I used it, I've since found that it's a weak performing scent in hot weather.

Fresh, clean, uplifting marine scent with enough white floral to make it unisex. Nothing fishy to be found here. Inisfree also markets this scent in a room diffuser, hand soap, and body wash, and that's how I prefer to use it. So yes, for all the repetitive reviews on Fragrantica making this claim, Energy of the Sea does actually smell like an air freshener--but a top shelf product and one that has become a permanent fixture in my home.

This is a very clean scent. Lots of citrus in the beginning, then the florals appear but the citrus is still predominant. It has excellent longevity for a citrus fragrance, lasting a good 12 hours on me. I was a little hesitant to buy because of the clove note, but there's just the smallest hint of it in the drydown, and it's possible that I'm only noticing it because I know it's there. This is perfect for casual everyday use!

I have had the hardest time finding a fragrance that is similar to bath and body works discontinued aquamarine by mineral co. This is the closest thing I’ve found, and it’s become my go to fragrance! It’s giving crystal waves with a hint of a storm on the horizon. I’m definitely rolling up to my dungeons and dragons group in this fragrance. Makes me feel like a pirate lol. Yarrr. Get this perfume it’s actually fire.

I have no idea how they managed to bottle the essence of the beach and ocean, but they did and it is MARVELOUS. I adore this scent. It's clean, slightly spicy, and smells like you've been at sea all day. Cannot recommend highly enough, and I love that it's unisex! It's such a nice change from the fruity-floral-gourmand fragrances that are everywhere. It's really unique, and I'll definitely re-purchase!

Got this 2 years ago, i hated it. The sea notes annoyed me so much. 2 years later, this fragrance blows my mind every time i wear it. Its fresh, slightly floral, and even has some sweetness in the background that gives it so much character. The way this fragrance dances through each note layer is like nothing I've experienced. Not blind buy safe at all, test this before committing to a bottle.

I got this perfume on a bit of a whim, and I'm so glad I did! It's an extremely refreshing, cheerful, and aromatic aquatic scent. While I'm usually more of a gourmand person myself, I continually find myself reaching for this bottle at the start of my day. It picks up my mood whenever I smell it. Longevity is decent, sillage is pretty good, and the price is great as well!

Bought this after trying the hand cream in an Irish and Scottish shop in Perth, Ontario. One of my absolute favourites! So fresh, so clean, so lovely. An instant mood lifter and a great scent to wear when you want to feel put together. Easy blind buy if you love aquatic fresh scents! Definitely unisex but something so pretty about it that it leans feminine to me.

Wonderful scent. I would say this is unisex leaning more towards feminine. Purchased this along with Patrick cologne. I had high hopes for Patrick based on all the positive reviews but did not like that fragrance at all. I was 100% very pleasantly surprised with Inis It has a nice fresh aquatic smell (of course) I would recommend Inis for male or female use

This smells as much like ocean air as any fragrance I've ever experienced. It didn't last long enough to evolve much, or for the base notes to reveal their identities. That's fine. I miss the steady breeze coming from the ocean (though not at low tide), so I'm happy to reapply it during the day to experience the opening profile more than once.

This is THE single most realistic “ocean” scents I have ever smelled. Other scents have notes in them that hit on “ocean”, but this one is all ocean, topped off with a visit to the pines at the edge with of the sea. It is wonderful. I don’t for see this as an everyday scent, but it certainly lifts my spirits when I wear it.

First bought this a few years ago in the Caribbean and have made it a tradition to buy it every year when I go. It's such an elegant, soft, and beautiful scent. Anytime I want to think about boating in the Caribbean Sea, I put this on and it takes me there . It's amazing the memories that fragrances conjure up in our minds.

Found it at Hallmark store near Cocoa Beach Florida. I have thousands of perfumes but HAD to purchase this. It reminds me of Aramis New West for Women. Not a perfect dupe, mind you, but in the same spirit. It is very close to the original Issey Miyake (sp?)for Men, but softer and not as sharp.

I got this as a gift this past Christmas and immediately had to get a bigger bottle. Its such a nice light, airy scent for the day time that last a while. I like to wear it to work and interviews as its makes me feel a little more professional, haha!

I love to wear this during a soft, rainy, warm spring day. The smell of the ocean, the salt spray are so refreshing, it is like walking along my old neighborhood beach while I lived in Hyannisport before the tourists invade.

THIS IS THE OCEAN SCENT I'VE BEEN LOOKING FORRR!! a true ocean fragrance without being jarring or overwhelming to others, but still notably oceanic and beautiful. reminds me of being near a creek at my grandmother's cottage.

This is a gorgeous scent. I don't find it masculine at all. It is very much unisex. I live in hot ass Texas and this is the perfect summer scent for the summer heat. It's never overwhelming and it just so fresh and clean

I bought this one on vacation and it will always remind me of the beach. It’s aquatic but fresh and bright, like a tide pool rather than ocean depths. It’s unisex in a 2010s Abercrombie sort of way. Love love love

I absolutely adore this fragrance and have been buying it for years! Its fresh, clean and unisex. When you spray it on your clothes and hair it lasts all day. I think it is very similar to Issey Myake pour homme.

This is such a poetic ocean scent. Calming and uplifting. For wearing Inis brings to mind the being at the seashore. The feeling of a cool mist of sea spray against the skin as the waves break upon the shore.

This fragrance smells exactly like a salty ocean breeze mixed with fresh air and sunshine - it must be the seaweed extract they use in it because they've captured the ocean breeze and salt note perfectly!

This was actually the first fragrance I ever bought for myself years ago. I may be biased because of that, but this stuff smells divine. It's a very clean costal type smell without being overly salty.

This smells wonderful! And Longevity is good too. It is light and clean and a joy to have discovered. It’s from Ireland as well. This is a great summertime scent. I will get it again when it runs out.

This is a beautiful aquatic scent. Aquatics tend to be fishy on my skin. This one gives a slight fishy scent but that fades and it comes alive. Such a wonderful perfume.

Love this on my wife. The neroli, ocean, floral and sandalwood notes make a great sensual scent. A little too floral for me to wear but a great female fragrance.

A fixture of gift shops across the west of Ireland and beyond, this fresh, unisex cologne is a pleasant, minimal scent that evokes the rugged beauty of the Atlantic coast of Ireland. Aptly named, this scent does what it says on the tin. "Inis" means "island" in Irish, and the blue-and-white wave design on the packaging serves as a translation for non-Irish speakers. As SaturnSmiled below says, this scent is reminiscent of clean cotton sheets drying in the fresh air. On initial spray, Inis is deeply fresh. Salty sea accords and clean citrus notes make this scent reminiscent of a refreshing sea breeze. Tart bergamot notes with some lemon make up the citrus accords, and soft white florals creep in a little later. The florals are not at all sweet or feminine, instead they simply add some soft body to an otherwise fleeting scent. Green geranium leaf adds a hint of grassy freshness. There is also the merest hint of spice as it develops further. As it dries down, it becomes soapy and fades into a slightly musky skin scent. Longevity is fairly weak, lasting for less than two hours, and sillage is moderate. Clean, linear and unisex, this inoffensive, minimal scent is an extremely wearable summer day scent.
