Gauguin

I'm trying this perfume today, and even though I love it, I have to say I've noticed one drawback. But let's start with the good. Gauguin is a gorgeous perfume, with a beautiful coconut scent mixed with white and tropical flowers. In the opening, I mainly smell the tuberose, very airy and sparkling thanks to the aldehydes; and little by little, the coconut and Tiare blend takes over on a light, vanilla-amber base. Like almost all of the brand's recent releases, the performance is moderate, but I feel that this is actually a good thing, as it creates a very pleasant aura around you without being overpowering, and makes it a perfume that can be worn perfectly well in warm weather despite the intensity and sweetness of its notes. The downside is that I already have Dex & the Sea in my collection, and they're very similar! It's true that this one is fresher and more summery, while S&S is sweeter and heavier. This one has practically no animalic notes, and it adds the scent of tuberose, which gives it an exquisite touch, in my opinion. However, I feel that the base is very, very similar and that it could easily be a flanker called S&S Summer or S&S&Sun. In fact, that tuberose effect is somewhat reminiscent of the neroli effect in S&S Neroli. Therefore, I'm adding it to my wishlist, but for the long term. That said, when I run out of S&S, I'll probably replace it with this one because I have to say I like it much more... and I adore the other one!

This is a Francesca Bianchi perfume unlike any I've ever experienced before. That's because the impression it gives me changes every time I use it. First time: The moment I sprayed it, I was greeted with the scent of creamy coconut, tuberose, and tiare along with aldehydes, and the scent enveloped me every time I moved throughout the day. It lasted exceptionally well. Second time: When I sprayed it, I caught a brief whiff of animal notes, but they were quickly hidden behind the creamy scent. The coconut, tuberose, and tiare were still present, but I also noticed a hint of oil. This time, the longevity was excellent. Third time: This time, the aldehydes, and even the animal notes, were prominent from the top, and I couldn't help but laugh. I told myself that Francesca Bianchi wouldn't exist without the animal notes. The coconut, tuberose, and tiare weren't as strong as the first time, and the mask note was emphasized. A hint of ripe fruit also emerged, probably ylang-ylang. Of course, the creamy coconut and floral notes lingered. Again, the longevity was excellent. So the impression changes every time, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it will continue to evolve. Finally, I don't feel vintage at all, it's contemporary.

I read all the comments about the painter and Francesca's choice to name her Fragrance after him and I ordered on release day anyway and am So Glad that I did. This may be my new signature fragrance. It's so beautifully blended and the monoi essence is there with just enough collagen to flirt but not overpower. I love Sex and the Sea, but Gauguin may have it beat. Now I'll have to conserve since I can't get a back up bottle.

Francesca is fantastic!! I appreciate ALL inspirations from her. The artist she named this after was MARRIED to a 13 and 14yo. Legally. Times were different in the 1800s, for God's sake! Imagine being so caught up in that stuff that you can't enjoy a modern fragrance from a wonderful creator. I hope harm to ALL who hurt children

So pleased I pulled the trigger on this fragrance...gorgeous tropical scent: white flowers & coconut, feels very luxurious and sensual ❤️ definitely super strong, only one to two sprays required 🌺 compliments to the creator

Beautiful, creamy white floral. This whispers, it doesn't shout. My guess is it will get stronger with time. I own and love both Sex and the Sea and Sex and the Sea Neroli and so I figured this was a safe blind buy.

Oh my God... I never seem to learn with this lady. Lots of creamy white florals. Yes, creamy and picturesque. The problem is there’s no real novelty or meaningful twist; it feels like another rehash. Considering the talent and potential this brand has, it’s disappointing to see it playing safe again. A certain sense of complacency, perhaps even a touch of arrogance.

Francesca..... Gauguin sucks. If this was dedicated to the women he exploited you might have stuck the landing. But creating a scent to honor a glorified pedo sex tourist is nasty work. Not seeing a penny out of me ma’am try again ! And to the weirdo two reviews above.. that man was violating children when he was in his 40s. Call me soft I don’t care I said what I said. If it doesn’t bother you well don’t act shocked when we have a whole country run by people like him. Bc most people don’t care about young nameless girls. Can’t imagine why it bothers anyone that I do

Very nicely done creamy white tropical floral. Definitely get the sex and the sea dna in here. It’s not as animalic as that fragrance but there is definitely a animalic touch of it still in here as I find this to be a very carnal fragrance. I’m surprised to see it was voted as being weak because to me it is super strong. I did only a few sprays and it projected strongly for many hours. Plus the tester strip with it on it filled my room all day long.

Never heard of this artist Gauguin. Don't care. As long as he inspired Francesca to create some good juice is all that matters to me. I've gone thru a couple bottles of Sex and the Sea along with one bottle Sex and the Sea Neroli. Thought a bottle was worth a blind buy considering my tastes. Bottle ordered and shipped. Will give my thoughts upon arrival. Glad I ordered a bottle. As of February2 website is showing "OUT OF STOCK"

A more easy to wear Sex and the Sea. Sex and the Sea is the scent that made me fall in love with Francesca Bianchi so I'm glad I got it but if you're not a FB collector and you have one of the other Sex and the Sea versions you're not missing much. It is beautiful though. I would say its closer to Sex and the Sea Neroli with the tropical florals instead of Neroli.

I bet if we look into the backgrounds of some of the designers that our perfumes are named for we would find a lot of questionable things. Coco Chanel dated a literal Nazi. I guess the question is can you seperate the art from the artist? I don't care about the name . I love Francescas.work and would love to have this.

May I say... as someone who happens to be familiar with Postcolonial Studies. It could be that Gauguin was both an exploiter and a great painter. Both can be true. Also fyi, if we’re talking morals, most if not all modern-day perfume houses come from a place of ethical ambiguity. That includes your loves and likes.
