Heliotrope

This is a very realistic heliotrope soliflore. In order to enjoy this fragrance, one must really love heliotrope, since all the other notes are there just to help elevate the star flower. Heliotrope has a very specific, sweet-powdery-almondy, slightly mentholated, and even somewhat bubblegummy scent; in my home country, heliotrope is also known as 'vanilla bush', which says it all. Yet, due to its powderiness, the scent of heliotrope can evoke the dreaded 'old-ladyish' tag... which I think is totally unfair. Тhe most famous fragrance with prominent heliotrope is the legendary Guerlain masterpiece L'Heure Bleue. FB Heliotrope was obviously inspired by that one: namely, it smells like a modernised version of L'Heure Bleue, where the aniseed has been removed and replaced with thyme and spices in the opening, and the oriental, resinous base notes are substituted with the ubiquitous pairing of tonka and patchouli. Nevertheless, FB Heliotrope still retains that retro vibe. This is a niche fragrance for vintage-worshipping hipsters and eccentric artists. It projects outstandingly and lasts about 6 hours.

I can't believe how few the review of this perfume here. This perfume, as its name suggests, smells really like Heliotrope flower, if you haven't smelled the flower, imagine an almond pudding, the smells is more or less the same. The smell is sweet, and the beast mode of Etro's Heliotrope, where Etro's feels a bit more spicy and moderate-lived, this one is more flowery, and fresh. It's not a really original scent, I admit, but this one falls into a-bit-rare category (hence less famous), the scent is flowery-fresh, the sillage and longevity is good, and I got many compliments wearing this.

This one packs a real punch, definitely not for the faint-hearted. As others have already mentioned, you really have to be a big fan of Heliotrope and almond to enjoy this experience of wearing this scent. I find that two sprays along the wrists is more than enough, as it really does surround you with a beautiful aura of bitter, powdery almond, it's so elegant and mysterious. It does stay linear throughout its wear but that's not something worth complaining about when the fragrance is so uniquely beautiful.

During the early spring I will sometimes visit one of the big box stores with a garden center just to experience that feeling of nature and growing things. It can be a little counter productive since what they often have there then is annual plants, cultivars which have been selected for bloom size or hardiness but rarely fragrance. And that fragrance is at the heart of a real connection with nature. But if there’s heliotrope there and it’s already blooming, even if it’s been forced, it will reliably smell like heliotrope. They can’t breed the smell out of it. Vanilla, almond,a little peach, a little cherry cola. This fragrance exactly recreates that smell, with the exception possibly of the cherry aspect, I don’t get much of that. But it’s heliotrope, just heliotrope, and the other notes serve to reinforce the essential smell of it. It is basically a soliflore. Since I love the smell of heliotrope, I love this. It seems like a necessary perfume for anyone in a heliotrope phase. It lasts for absolutely ever on the skin, becoming more powdery and sweet after the first 8 hours. For people that have synaesthesia, as I sometimes do, and see color with smells, this is a deep periwinkle blue, verging on purple.
